Mobile data cant connect to google servers?? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry, working all of a sudden, must be t-mobile issue...
Nevermind!

Its not tmobile. Download an app called total commander, (file manager) navigate to; file system root, etc, then scroll down and find a file named "hosts" and delete it, then reboot. Happens to me all the time, and thats always fixed it for me.

ssh into android with winscp ?

how can i ssh into my galaxy tab using winscp?
on my nokia n900 i installed openssh server and client and can access system files using winscp on my pc over wifi, pretty easy
but cant seem to find a way to do it on android
i just want to get access to system files because im rooted
the root explorer app is pretty useless because i cant open files or do anything with them
for example if i go to system/bin i cant seem to select/move or do anything with the files there?
and they all have a yellow shield icon on the files, whats all that about?
i just want to change my boot animation and icons and stuff
but dont want to use a terminal
ok i managed to get in but when i try to open 'system' folder i get:
error listing directory 'system'.
Could not retrieve directory listing
Can't CWD to invalid directory
also cant open data folder, that says: That path is inaccessible
if i try to copy the 'hosts' file from ect i get:
Real path and requested remote path do not match: "/system/etc/" "/etc/"
Copying files from remote side failed.
"system/etc"
any ideas?
anyone??

Can't find files using astro or es.

I am searching my phone with es file explorer and cant find any of my game saves, I even checked search root and nothing. I thought they were in data/data but when i open the /data folder nothing is showing... any help would be nice.
All games are different. For example, Minecraft PE is in /sdcard/games/
But some can be in /sdcard/data/
Just start scrawling about.

Using es or astro i can not see the folders i want to get into. I did a tita. backup of the game, sent it to my email. edited the .xml, saved it and then sent it back to the phone and restored it. It worked, but a pain the ass at the same time. Why wont these "root" explorer apps show all the files and folders?
For ES you need to enable root...

i did that. still not showing enough. it also doesnt show sd-ext.

Most ROMs come with the stock browser.

There's a thread with a link and explanation on how to install if you don't want a custom ROM.

Which file explorer are you using? I can't seem to find one that will let me rename, or change permissions. Thanks!

Is the ChromeBookmarksSyncAdapter.apk supposed to sync my bookmarks? I placed it into the system folder, and renamed the two apps in there already, rebooted and the Browser showed up, and works just fine, but I don't see any option to sync my browser. I went into Settings - Add Account, but only my apps (like facebook, and google) are shown, not the browser. Any ideas on how to get that working?

You have to go to Settings, Google, click on your gmail. Browser should show up there, and you can put a checkmark beside it to enable syncing,

Google Maps?

So I'm rooted with the De La Vega method and it works great. As we all know, the new google maps v7 will not allow you to do a lot of things that the old versions would allow. I've found some older APKs from v6 and previous, but when I go to install, it will not allow it. Any ideas why, or how to get around it?
I'm interested in this as well. Plus the navigation voice is so robot like and it can hardly pronounce street names properly.

You can change the speech from Samsung to Google speech engine, sounds MUCH better. The method is somewhere in these forums.

I'd imagine maps is a system app, so using a file explorer go to system> apps and replace the maps apk with your older one, change permissions and reboot.

How do I change permissions? I've tried using ES File Explorer but I can't replace that system file.

Sorry I'm not familiar with es file explorer. I use root explorer and just long press the file and select change permissions. Maybe try changing the extension of the original apk to something like .bak before you copy the new apk then you could always go back if you wanted the newest version again.

Once I downloaded the correct app to allow permission changes, I was able to rename the v7 file, copy over the v6 file and rebooted with no problems. However, the application didn't show up in the app list. So, I had to then install that same APK and everything works great. I now have all of my stored maps back!
What can't u do on v7?

Where did you locate previous versions of Maps? I am tired of current version of Maps forcing me to allow WIFI and Network Locations to work. Just a battery hog doing that.

There are several places online that have archives. I also had my APKs all backed up in such an event.
If you get blackout updater (Google play) or in Android themes. The blacked out version of Google maps is the last V6 version. I was glad to have the map view back.

Downloaded files not appearing in folder...

Hi, I have a stock S4 LTE running 4.3
Im having a frustrating problem where when I download large jpgs (13mb or so), I can open them from download manager (which loads the gallery app) but the files dont appear in the gallery itself, nor in root explorer or es file explorer etc. I can see other downloads in there, just seems to be the large jpgs (at least all I noticed is missing).
Searching online seems to always get a response of clearing the gallery/download cache and rebooting, but it doesnt seem to work for me. I even wondered if it was a Knox thing, but I dont think so (?).
Any help appreciated! Its not that I desperately need the files, more that I have no way of deleting and im sure they are eating space.

Go to Store, install Ghost Commander (most likely some other explorers can do the job, but I don't know them).
then, go to the root of the internal sdcard, press the menu button -> location -> search, input *.jpg. Optional, you can set the "bigger than" parameter or the "after, before| values. Repeat for *.jpeg pattern. If nothing will show up, use the asterisks as *.* and bigger than value as 12MB, smaller than SOMETHING.
If nothing will be found - repeat for the external SD.
Thanks!! Feel a bit stupid actually. The app had its own folder called 'download' so the files were hiding there, not in the root download.
Thanks again
