Can't find files using astro or es. - EVO 4G General

I am searching my phone with es file explorer and cant find any of my game saves, I even checked search root and nothing. I thought they were in data/data but when i open the /data folder nothing is showing... any help would be nice.

All games are different. For example, Minecraft PE is in /sdcard/games/
But some can be in /sdcard/data/
Just start scrawling about.

Using es or astro i can not see the folders i want to get into. I did a tita. backup of the game, sent it to my email. edited the .xml, saved it and then sent it back to the phone and restored it. It worked, but a pain the ass at the same time. Why wont these "root" explorer apps show all the files and folders?

For ES you need to enable root...

i did that. still not showing enough. it also doesnt show sd-ext.

system notifications

I see my system notifications are stored in /system/media/notifications but even with root Im not able to drop a new file withing this directory. I would like to do this because Handcent doesnt give me the option to select a different directory.
Any suggestions on either dropping a new sound file in the /system/media dir or using a custom sound file for Handcent?
Thanks
You should be able to put something in /sdcard/media/notifications
You have to mount system with root explorer, ADB, etc. It's read only by default.

I've tried a root file manager without success. Is it possible to change the directory permissions using ADB?

If you use root explorer, there is a little button in the upper right that toggles read write permissions.
Sweet
For the next person, I can confirm this does work, you just need to make sure the permissions are correctly set on each file and the phone (or SMS) app needs to be restarted to take effect.
Thanks everyone.
P.S. I hope you guys get a commission!

Gallery Problems

The picture folders take forever to load when I open gallery, does anyone else get this? seems slow creating previews of the pictures
i have the same issue
I went back to di18 and that problem was no more
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
only remedy I found was back out of the gallery, and re-enter it. It loads normal speed then
I had success a while back deleting all of my thumbnails, early on, in fixing this problem. (Thumbnails are regenerated upon launching after this). Id also check that u have the latest version of the galley that we're using. Check out the development section, and most of the roms there have that version that I haven't had probs with. I don't know what you're running (dk28.. cw3 ext4..?) If so, I'm usng the version in the Truly Epic rom, and also have used Quantum rom's.
Btw, I have a TON of image files on my sd. If you have certain directories that u don't want to appear in the gallery, u can manage them with a .nomedia file. Ask if u have questions about it.

Exactly delete your android folder on the root of your sd card. It still re generate on the next boot and your gallery will be fixed.

I use a alternative picture app, "QuickPic", it's so much faster then the stock gallery app.
Thanks for the tip guys, that fixed my problem

Just rename the folder to x.nomedia?
I just put a bunch of stuff on my phone in different folders, but photosafe and videosafe need licenses to hide things so this would be a good thing to hide them from my less-tech savvy gf and allow me to actually take the security lock off lol

hehe - in response to the first part:
no - don't rename the folder to that. basically, the .nomedia is a file the GOES into a directory that you don't want the media scanner to scan.
The .nomedia file basically says, "move along! nothin to see here!".
So, a .nomedia file would have to be in EACH of the directories you don't want to show up. Keep in mind.. this won't hide them, and in regards to ur gf... a .nomedia file won't have any affect on the history that a media player might keep... so keep that in mind
To create the nomedia file, you can either find one on your sd somewhere, and copy it (pasting into desired folders)
or
open Notepad on ur computer, save the blank file as "nomedia.txt"
Copy it to your SD, in Astro, rename it to .nomedia (with no extension). and you're set.

Use a program like Root Explorer and change it from Read Only to R/W. I'm sure you can do it with ES File Explorer which is free.

thank for showing me the ES File Explorer. From this app, i see my micro sd are not writable. Try to find a way to change from not writable to writable from this app but i couldnt. Can i use this app to change the permission?
I do not think you can use ES File Explorer to change the permissions, but you can use Root Explorer if you are rooted.

You need to change the ES File Explorer app options. Configuration-> Root Explorer (check it). That's all. You can also use this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173195 and remount as writeable.

Thanks but after done what u said i still cannot change the permission folder. This is what I did(please advise me if I done wrong).
Before
Change:
User - nothing tick
Group - all tick
Other - one read and execute are tick
After
Change:
User - tick all(read, write and execute)
Group - nothing I change
Other - nothing I change.
I ON my USB debugging.
What should I do, because when I tick everything for user, this come out "Change Permission failed"
Thanks again.

Does anyone else like it more than others?

Do you have root access? If you do download file explorer that will ask for root access and that will give you deeper access into the system files. Try root explorer or es explorer. For es explorer, obtain root access in the app's setting menu.

As mentioned by scream4cheese, you must have root access to even see anything in /data or /system, etc.
