Failing to Flash back to Stock - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello Guys,
Model SPH-L720
Okay so I have been having nothing but issues with my AOKP roms I installed on my S4, I have no sound anymore phone calls dont work the phone constantly freezes and restarts.. nothing works.
I have been attempting to flash back to an Original Rom I have tried every ROM in Rwilco12's repo, nothing is working every time I attempt to flash it does this.
ODIN

- First issue I had when attempting to flash back to stock, I couldn't via ODIN on Windows without this issue.

- Second issue After I was able to flash the phone via ODIN Mobile I still had sound issues, I believe as daniel4653 stated you cant roll backwards I remember the last update before I flashed I was running 4.3 so I am guessing I was attempting to flash the device to Older Stock roms.

For that error when you are trying to flash via ODIN, I am guessing that only happens when you try to flash the phone to an older Stock ROM than it previously was running.
Try downloading one of the latest Stock ROMs and attempt to flash that, that should fix that error.
If the errors continue follow the instructions on Rwilco12's Repo and for flashing via Mobile ODIN, then reflash a custom recovery like TWRP after that is complete.
Reformat everything /data /system /dalvik etc... everything.
Then attempt to flash it again via Odin on Windows, and it should work that's exactly what I did.
What can also be done.. you can always download the modem separate via Rwilco12's Repo HERE and after flashing via Mobile ODIN, just flash this via ODIN on Windows and then you wouldn't have to reformat everything and reflash as stated above just for the modem to work, flashing the Stock ROM via Mobile ODIN doesn't flash the Modem so its required to be done manually typically. However if you are experiencing the sound issues like I was.. I would recommend following the instructions above and ignore this section.

i've had problems with aokp also. the freezing i can't help with. had problems before kit kat and even worse after. i tried fixing it myself. the phone calls are your mobile network settings if i'm not mistaken. check my recent question here if a stock mk2 rom will help. otherwise, a different aosp rom wouldn't normally have those problems.
edit: also the most common advice for people who have trouble with odin are 1) try different usb ports and 2) try different versions of odin

Yeah man, the network settings are fine its just anytime I go to take a phone call or make one it crashes, plus I have no sound at all. I just want to go back to stock I can't stand these bugs even the milestones are full of bugs and are very unstable. I really just want to go stock again.

yeah the aokp roms caused me much trouble also like i said. if you're sure but i've had almost exactly the same problems and aokp came with jacked up network settings for me is all. BUT somebody gave me a link to an mk2 rom in my last thread i posted. maybe that d/l will fix your problems. the aforementioned two most common issues in the previous edit are the ones i've noticed for odin. i'm sorry if it's not helpful i'm just giving you options to consider.

I have been googling the hell out of SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 4 , Binary : 1 and all I ever find is SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 2 , Binary : 1
Does anyone know why I cant flash back to stock?

yeah googling the lines you think will help almost never yield results.
1) try different usb ports
2) try different versions of odin
3) try different rom
you didn't have time to do these things since i posted. please try it and i'm sorry if it doesn't work.

I have tried 3 computers 6 different usb ports 3 different usb cables.
I have tried Odin 1.8 and Odin 3.09 along with multiple Odin One Clicks and they all give same response.
I have tried every Stock Rom on Rwilco12's Repo all come back with the same exact error.

i'm sorry, but i think i gave every piece of advice that anyone else will. good luck and i hope you get it figured out.

Does anyone know of any stable ROMs that wont crash every 3 seconds? I have tried AOKP's Milestones and I have no working sound with them cant hear phone calls or music or any notifications and phone calls do not work with them. Any ROMs that don't have those issues or how I can fix this issue so I can flash back to stock would be greatly appreciated!

cyanogenmod is good, and pac is my favorite from a while back. i can't vouch for the newer aosp roms that have come out. but those won't have the problems you mentioned. man i'm sorry but like i said, if you don't have a backup the steps are install stock rom, install odin, use odin to flash stock rom. the only help i've ever seen is what i already told you. i hope somebody can come and tell you exactly which step was wrong.
---------- Post added at 06:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:50 PM ----------
if you want something fancy though and that's why you're trying to mod your phone, you'd be better off going touchwiz i think.

Thanks for your help, I am going to try and install it from Mobile Odin instead see if that works.

crap, another common problem i can think of is make sure you're running odin in admin mode.

I have it set in compatibility mode to always run as Admin, thanks though.
About to attempt the Odin Mobile Flash. I will post back with the results.

i've set up my windows the same way. it doesn't mean that there's no option when you right click to run as admin. i just used the exact file i specified and ran as admin and i flashed the file i linked to in odin. i'm trying to do the same thing.

Were you on MK2 or NAE before? If so that would explain why Odin isn't working for you. The last tar on rwilco depository is MJA. And you can't go backwards. From 4.4.2 to 4.3 or 4.3 to 4.2
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

i am having trouble but the file may not have come with the kernel so i'm trying to troubleshoot and fix and i'll tell you how once you get to this point. i'm doing exactly what you're doing from 4.4.2 cyanogenmod.
---------- Post added at 08:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:07 PM ----------
ok i halfway expected this, but i'm getting stuck at the boot screen. so now since i'm coming from 4.4.2 cm firmware i download koontzes 4.3 kernel and i'm going to try that.
---------- Post added at 08:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 PM ----------
alright got it fixed. i just had to find ktoonzes touchwiz 4.3 kernel and install it via the stock recovery after i odined the stock mk2 firmware and now i'm here at the startup screen. i've probably done things to my phone that i might regret but that's how it goes when you screw around with expensive toys. aaand i'm pretty sure it did an ota the second i started it up.
i risked breaking my phone trying but i installed mk2 stock and got it working so i know you can too.
---------- Post added at 08:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:29 PM ----------
funny thing though considering your first reply. my default background after i unrooted was the aokp one i used to like that was stored.

I have no idea which one I was on, how do I figure that out? All I know is Its SPH-L720 I just bought it in November.
However the Mobile Odin flash was Successful but I am still running without sound so no music or phone calls or notifications just vibration, and also as they said modem wouldn't flash and so I am without wifi also..
This is the ROM I just used http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...PH-L720)/Stock ROMs/MF9/Full Restore/Unrooted.
I am going to attempt to flash through Odin using MJA, I will post back with the results.

Someone else on here said they had to flash the corresponding modern before they flashed the stock tar first. Don't know why that fixed things for then but just figured I'd throw that in here.
At this point why not try the NAE file in Odin? The one that Random has posted doesn't wipe your data.
Hey I know you've been trying different things so if you've tried these then my bad just throwing ideas out.

URGENT! Need HELP! I may have bricked my phone.

URGENT HELP NEEDED. Might be a bricked phone.
I had recently upgrade my firmware to MJ7 and was rooted via de la vega on Hyperdrive RLS1 and wanted to update tp Hyperdrive RLS2.
I had this lingering issue with my internal storage numbers not showing up properly. (The phone told me I was using roughly 45gb internal when I have less than 32gb available. Duplicates of everything.)
I tried following Brandonrz guide [Guide] How to install roms on over stock rom (not compromising space), via ss. And wiped my phone a couple of times and was trying to install the Hyperdive RLS2 as my stock rom to save space and fix my earlier problem. But, for some reason my phone would not take that RLS2 rom. It failed and I was stock with no rom, and no stock rom.
Then I tried following [GUIDE] VZW Note III Edition[Return to Stock or recover from a Soft Brick and More]. I followed all the steps downloaded everything I needed, but despite my efforts everytime I goto flash the stock rom Odin fails.
My phone currently reads "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please use Software Repair Assistant & try again." I have tried numerous times with both Odin 3.09 and 3.07. The only other thing I can do is get my phone into downloading mode.
PLEASE HELP!!!
Keep trying the stock MJ7 tar w/Pit. Also try using different USB ports on your computer. Also check if your download is good. Best of luck!

I get a "SECURE CHECK FAIL : cache" on my phone when using odin. I have no idea what that means.

Check the MD5 on your download and compare to what is post
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Verify the MD5 if you can, just to make sure. Also, I've seen that using a regular usb2 port on your computer is more reliable than usb3 with odin, for some reason. If you're having problems, try usb2 if you haven't already.
Also one of the files had .MD5 at the end when it was uploaded. Should have ended in .tar

I am grabbing the MJ7 from that link now dhelmet78 it doesn't seem to be a duplicate to any of the other files I tried. Fingers crossed. I have two minutes left.
In Odin just to make sure I'm flashing this right. I am using 3.09 I have Auto Reboot checked, F. Reset Time checked but nothing else checked. So I didn't change anything. When I goto flash this file I'm just checking AP and choosing the MJ7 file, let it load then hit start? Right?

**** man. I was so close...I did what you said and removed the .md5 off the end and added the pit file again like someone suggested. And it finally did something it was writing I had the blue line on my phone fill all the way and I thought everything was going to be ok. But after about 4 minutes Odin report failed.
"Fail! (Auth)"
Complete(write) Operation failed.
I feel like I'm getting closer though
Do a battery pull and try it again. (may not help, but certainly can't hurt) If you are using the latest Odin you shouldn't need to delete the "md5" off the end either.

4.3 downgrade -> 4.2.2 epic fal

I just did legend fail.
Been on stock MK2 (MF3 sideloaded to upgrade MK2), then i decided to go back to 4.2.2 stock since i really did not like the 4.3, did not make any research, so i odin the MF3 files and tried to flaash, but got an error in first 5 sec. Now every time i switch on the phone its saying i have to make upgrade through KIES, what sounds work w/o luck.
I know we dont have 4.3 odin files yet and not sure we will have them, but is there any way still to get this device to work ? Or its absolutely broke ?
Would appriciate any help ty

can any1 please share this file bootloader of MK2 so i can flash it throu odin to make the device to work, would appriciate any further info or help ty. w/o phone for 3 days already

Since we got the 4.3 update closing our download funtion in phone, will we be able to flash through odin the stock 4.3 MK2 to re-stock bricked sgs4 ? like you can do with MF3?
I am asking since currently i am w/o phone and waiting for someone to post the stock MK2, but will that for sure make it work normal excluding its blocked downlaod etc. ? just curious
Same thing happened to me.. I worked for hours and finally just tried flashing the I337 PIT file thru Odin in the Pit option.. It said failed but I pulled the battery and rebooted into recovery then restarted.. Google for the pit file.... I have the full zip MK2 file but you have to have the MD5 files for Odin

Yes, you should be able to sideload or flash the zip through recovery.. With all these fails at updates, I wish I would have stayed at what I had and not messed with it..lol.. It seems nothing is guaranteed and it's always a risky chance when you flash something..
I decided to update to 4.3 and didnt like it so i stock flash 4.2 back via odin. flash said "pass" but now i have knox on recovery. Im guessing i have the new bootloader. 4.2 flash on but with errors like wifi wont toggle on & on every reboot i get an erro "kernel seandroid is not reonforsing" or something like that...so now im stock on 4.3 :/

The mistake i made was to go downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.2 do not make it since we do not have files for ODIN flash 4.3.
There is full 700 mb file witch you can easily sideload, if u get any error just go back to odin to flash stock MF3 and then sideload MK2, worked for me w/o problem but pls do not downgrade !
If i were you i would not go 4.3, TW is much more bugged for me, and phone feels way different thats why i wanted to go back to 4.2.2

I was able to downgrade... kinda..
I had my own epic fail when bell's update came out.
Flashed stock/counter reset.
Got OTA update no prob.
Rooted - Deleted too much bloat... (didnt backup) MY EPIC MISTAKE.
Thought "oh ill just start again"
Odin Back to 4.2.2 FAIL!!!
Stuck.. kinda
found someone with the international version in the same issue that odin flashed files from another carrier and was able to fix his situation...
so i went to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and downloaded the NEWEST date 4.2.2 rom for my 337m, which happened to be Dominican Republic carrier.
Flashed the DR version successfully in odin, and had no sound, no mic, no wifi.
I was then able to Odin flash 4.2.2 from bell... but still had no sound, no mic, no wifi....
the only real fix was LUCKILY within 24 hours of the OTA release, the odin file was posted to sammobile and saved my ass... all works now.
Played with the 4.3 update for a couple hours, then went back to 4.4 builds... LOL
At least i got to use my captivate again for a few calls for a day. that was nice.
Really have no idea how i an fix this w/o odin files.
umm you cant.
Problems solved, any1 who will have the same issue as me:
Had MK2 update installed and wanted to downgrade to 4.2.2 and failed to kies update, just flash the attached filed, it will fail you in download mode, but after 2-3 tried, just restart the device, and it will normally boot into 4.3 =)
Ty for all the help, and info best regards !

That's the file I had used before too.. I posted it on another guys post.. Glad it worked for you

This is the complete guide on how to flash back from 4.2.2. Even that 16 gig pit file won't even work on some peoples phone. Use this guide and it will help you get back to 4.3. First mj9 than you can sideload mk2.

Cannot activate phone with Cyanogenmod 11

I have a sprint galaxy s4 running cyanogenmod 11. I just bought the phone from someone. I went and got a new SIM for the device and tried to activate online. Did not work. I opened chat window with sprint and they put in the device's numbers and sim card number and asked me to make a test call, which did not work. They then asked me to type in ##72786#. They said it would auto reboot the device. It did nothing. They then started asking questions about if this was a used device. Obviously I don't want to have to go to the sprint store, I'm sure they would tell me they cannot activate a modded device.
Can anyone tell me how to activate?
edit: also had me enter ##659143# and said it should bring up a menu screen. It did nothing
Pretty sure those codes won't do anything unless you're on a TW based rom. I would flash the stock rom, then call and try to activate.
(And please remember questions go in the Q&A section)

As said above you'll need a touchwiz rom to get activated. I had the same problem when I got my phone.

Thanks. I really like this rom and how its performing... can you please point me to a tutorial on how to bring back to stock, then to reinstall the same rom after activation? Person I got it from said the files are on the sd card
Download a touchwiz rom to your SD card. Boot into recovery and make a backup of your current setup. Then flash the touhwiz ROM. Activate your phone then boot back into recovery and restore your CM11 ROM.

Where do I get touchwiz? Cannot find it on google or xda.
You really need to learn ALOT before you start using a rooted phone. And flashing.

Touch wiz refers to any Samsung bloated ROM. There are numerous ones in the development section.

What's done is done, I have a rooted phone. At this point I need to get through this. All help is appreciated.
I used a youtube tutorial, downloaded touchwiz and odin. Tried to install but it hung up in the middle and failed install. Now won't install through odin and I get the error 'firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again".
Installed Kies, went to tools>firmware upgrade initialization... but it keeps saying incorrect serial.
Any ideas?
Boot into Download Mode, post what the text is in the upper-left-hand corner. (after saying "yes" to the warning.) As long as you don't do anything with Odin nothing will download.
There's nothing in that text that has any personally identifiable information.

First of all, what baseband version are you on? Mdc, mdl, mf9,mk2, mja? That is important to know. If on say mf9, then flash with odin a stock mf9, therevare plenty of videos on youtube as to how to use odin. As for the kies error page or wathever justbpull the battery and go into download mode again and start over again. If it only goes half way and stops try a different usb port and make sure you are using the factory original usb cable, I had that same problem you describe of the kies error and itvwas the usb port. Give it a try, just take your time and don't loose your patience. Odin is pretty safe but at the same time you do not want to mess up. Triple check your settings and make surebyou have the right files. Good luck sorry about the typos.

I also have the same issue with my secondary phone line that is an S4. I wasn't quite sure what the heck the issue was with my device since it was working perfectly fine in one month and then all of a sudden I can no longer dial out anymore! I was puzzled as all hell and was wondering whats going on? So i had thought instantly that its either needing a PRL Update or it has to upgrade the radio and at the time i had just literally updated the radio from MF9 i believe. everything worked BUT the phone line kept saying that wonderful "we are sorry but your account could NOT be validated" line and again and again didnt realize that untill reading this post that i didnt remember to upgrade to the latest firmware update. So your saying that is the issue? Doesn't a PRL update help some of those issues with connectivity as well right? that way if you wanted to downgrade your firmware in your radio you could still do so and just update your PRL correct me if i am wrong but i haven't messed with the issue in about 4-5 months so im a lil dusty and need some clarification. I also CANT find an option to Update the PRL in CM 11 at all and sprint had told me that was what i needed to do and i couldnt find that anywhere when i changed my number i basically got data connectivity ONLY... has the Update PRL option in CM11 become obsolete or removed? does just a radio firmware update solve all the connectivity issues? or i should say just most not all... Thank you too by the way I have been stumped and just needed another head to miss what was so an obvious issue if this works out to be the problem that has agitated me time and time again!

Odin-compatible G900AUCU4BOF2 stock rom?

Hi, I'm stupid and bricked my phone.
I had rooted almost immediately after getting my phone, AT&T SM-G900A, and had no problems.
Used FlashFire to apply the 5.0 pre-rooted stock rom (OC4), and had no problems.
Decided today to use SuperSU's "Full Unroot" function, rebooted, and now I can't get past the AT&T logo on boot. And apparently even after that the phone is still rooted.
Tried the G900AUCU3BOC4-OneClick.exe Odin flasher, but it fails and I get "sw rev check fail [aboot]: fused 4 > binary 3" which from what I understand means I am trying to install a rom version that is older than the one I currently have.
Looked on the internet to see if there is any Odin-compatible tar.md5 file for the newer versions, hoping one of those would let me update. However, I can only find .zip files made by muniz_ri. Tried copying those to my microSD card and install through recovery, but it fails with "invalid header". It looks like those zip files only work with FlashFire, which I can't even get to anymore because I can't boot.
Is there a floating copy of one of the newer stock roms (can be unrooted, I don't care) that I can flash with Odin? Or is there another secret I am missing? I have been through dozens of threads here on the forums and they all seem to have a solution that just give me any results.
Thanks for any help!
I have the same issue, did you fix it somehow?

what version of Odin do you have and what firmware are you trying to flash? Odin version is critical and you have to be flashing a firmware with at least the same or newer bootloader than what was previously on the phone
---------- Post added at 04:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:12 PM ----------
the thing with samsung devices is that if you can get to Odin mode, they re likely easily fixable. Make sure you have the latest version of Odin, sometimes youll even need a modified version of Odin depending on what youre trying to do. Use the factory cable or another that you know to have good data throughput, battery at a minimum 50%, a firmware version that is compatible with your phone (which is commonly based on the version of Android you last flashed because you cannot go backwards on bootloader revisions). I always keep several version of Odin on my computers at all times just in case. Also hang on to the firmwares youve flashed in case you need to reflash them

I'm using Odin 3.13.3 (but also tried 3.0.7 and 3.10)
and trying to flash the latest official samsung update (8/1), but have also tried the last two.
The phone gets to the blue download mode, appears in odin as [0:COM4], but whatever I try to flash to it, it says:
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Not sure what else to do.

try a new cable. i know it sounds dumb, but its a common culprit. I used to use an old blackberry cable that was excellent for data throughput.
diff cable and/or diff usb port
hell, ive even had to go to a different computer in some instances. but if you can get to download mode, youre still in good shape
oh, how full is the battery?
