Is there any way to disable the feature that turns the screen on when a message is received?

Everytime I receive a text message the phone rings and vibrate but the screen does not turn on to show the message or anything. I don't listen/feel the phone all of the time and I don't notice messages untill I turn on the phone manually to call someone. Is there a way to turn the screen on everytime a text message arrives?
Get handcent SMS it has a pop up feature that will turn on the screen when you get a message.

It worked! I had to disable all the notifications from Handcent because I was getting 2 sms rings. It's working flawless now. Thanks a lot
if you just want the pop up feature with out having a whole new sms app, try pop up sms too. choice choice choice.

When i receive an SMS the message is displayed at the top notification as a ticker type, i want the notification to only be the SMS message sign.
How do i disable the ticker..
I'm using paranoidandroid and unticked the 'display notification in SMS message settings bit this get rid of any notifications of that type..

Just switch to go SMS from handcent. With handcent the pop up text went over the lockscreen no problem with go with MS I have to unlock the screen to read my new text is there anyway to get it to go over the lock screen like it did with handcent? Thanks in advance

Hi,
Is there any way to set the display to NOT open when I receive a text message? It's strange, because the display opens when I receive a message and many times the screen doesn't even turn off.
Also, does anyone have the problem with the stock message application? When I am in a conversation, I turn the screen off and when I return, the conversation starts from the beginning and not from the last received message.
I'm stock and not rooted, on a D802 G2.

I don't want to turn the notification off... I just want the display not to automatically open when a message arrives... (I didn't find something related to the screen).

Is your phone rooted? If so, you can use Wanam to enable this option.
Yup thanks for Found option to enable it I Xposed then changed setting in messages app
