Need way more info.
Did you upgrade to 4.4 via the OTA (over the air) update?
If so I bet that your default saving location was your ExternalSD card previously and now the camera (and file browsers) cannot write to them.
There is a fix for rooted phones to enable SD card writing on NAE - 4.4.x. Read here
Or you can open the camera and change the default save location (to internal SD card) in the options.

How To: EB13 Froyo Download/Install and OTA!

- It has already been confirmed several times, the 2 files are EXACTLY the same (OTA and the 91.14mb file from samsung)
- Performing the update this way did not destroy any of my data, texts, applications, contacts, etc. Everything was exactly the same, except for the new version of Android. You must have a stock phone or the update most likely will not work.

UPDATE:: IF you cannot for whatever reason load the file to your SD Card, gmail yourself the link (below) and download it using Dolphin HD browser. I just confirmed it works on my phone, however, it does not work with the stock browser. Check the market for Dolphin HD, it's free. Client mode is set to desktop, which is under settings once in Dolphin HD. I was able to download the update.zip to the phone rather quickly over 4G Other browsers may work, I prefer that one though. Doesn't hurt to try. The stock one will not save the file, though will navigate to it.
As I first posted yesterday, there are [now 3] ways of downloading and installing the new EB13 Froyo release. If you have a Windows PC, there is a new utility that Samsung has released to flash the phone via PC. I personally couldn't get it to run on my Win 7 x64 laptop due to the enlarged font I run on my high-res laptop screen. Additionally, the 200MB file will wipe your phone completely clean. If you have a "trouble free" factory install of the current 2.1.1, the update method contained here is your best bet. Trouble free meaning that only bugs of the software are present. If you have issues above and beyond that of all other eclair users, you may want to completely wipe your phone.
The easiest and fastest method is to visit Samsung's Sprint Epic download page here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/SPH-D700ZKASPR and click the "Software" link (Manuals is the default landing page) and download the 91.14MB File labeled as for MAC OS. You will notice the much larger windows download (200MB) which is not needed, and may not work.
After you download the zip file, copy it over to your SD Card in your phone by either hooking it up and mounting it as you would normally do to copy files to your phone, or as I did, place the Micro SD card into an adapter and insert it into your computer. Copy the .zip file you downloaded onto the SD card; do not place it into any directory.
With your phone powered off, insert the SD Card back into the phone and replace the battery cover. Now, while holding both volume up and volume down rocker buttons (yes, you can push both at the same time), hold the camera button down as well and then press and hold the power on key. You will hold all 4 buttons on the phone until it boots into the flash menu.
Use the volume down button to scroll to..
"Apply SDcard: Update.Zip"
Push the Home key on the bottom of the phone and the update will commence.
Once it's complete, the phone may reboot into the menu again, at which time you select "Reboot" and hit the home key again.
The phone may reboot a few more times after it's first boot, and it may take a few minutes to fully get up and running. If it acts strange for a few minutes, this is normal.
Performing the update this way did not destroy any of my data, texts, applications, contacts, etc. Everything was exactly the same, except for the new version of Android. You must have a stock phone or the update most likely will not work. No ROMS, etc may be installed for the update to work. Before doing the update, go through your applications and uninstall anything you don't want / use.
You may also wait for the OTA update, but it will take a while to download, use up your battery, and you have to wait longer. It has already been confirmed several times, the 2 files are EXACTLY the same (OTA and the 91.14mb file from samsung) DO NOT waste time using a link to another file, there is no point and only risk in obtaining the file from somewhere else.
Before I began, I copied things off of my SD card that I wanted and performed a format on it. If you have apps installed on the SD Card, and you choose to do this, you may need to reinstall them. Once the update was complete, I copied the directories and files back to the SD Card.
(STICKY worthy!) No other post has this info immediately at hand.

Eh, it's not as concise, and also not borrowed. This is the easy, "don't do anything but update my OS" method. NOTHING is needed except the ability to load the Update.zip to the SD Card.

Personally, I think Whosdaman's version is much more concise. Perhaps you meant yours is more convoluted or wordy? But hey, potato, tomato, right?

Fair enough about not wanting to DL something that you can't verify the source... On a positive note, those three steps are exceptionally concise!
Does this work on DK28 Froyo? Probably not, eh?
I am on all stock and have clockwork installed. I tried to do the update like you said here, but it aborts the install and says no error message. I downloaded from the link you provided. It says E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
Firmware version-2.1-update1
Build Number-SPH-D700 ECLAIR.DI18
So is there something I am doing wrong?

This has been answered in one of those posts with several hundred replies (if I had the answer on-hand, I would post it). I kept the Epic stock to avoid any issues, so my update was rather simple. A few people have already had to reload their phones a couple of times before everything worked out.

DK28 wasn't official. The latest official release is DI18 - 2.1.1. This updates STOCK 2.1.1 ONLY.
I didn't care to fool with the phone originally due to not knowing the exact release date of froyo. It has been way over due, but I honestly didn't have any reason to mod. Froyo has enhanced the phone, but honestly doesn't provide anything new that would change the way I already use the device. GPS is faster to acquire in google maps, but in GPS Test, it was always fairly instant. It's also reports more accurate, reports being key, it wasn't ever off but by 20 feet anyway, which is about all you can expect on 3D accuracy.
I used the .exe file from Samsung website to flash my phone and works like a champ.
Now some minor quirks with Froyo but will address them in different threads.
Thanks for the help!!
Dakrk
Updated the post, you can download the file directly to the phone. Send yourself the link via gmail....and read the first post of this thread.....

Not advised for official ROMs, for custom you can flash it anyway you like. Though I think using CWM and flashing this should work... You end up with CWM recovery and an unrooted ROM. Correct me if I'm wrong...

theres this tiny black thing blinking on my wifi icon on 3.1....what is it.
seems to be little up and down black arrows like elevator buttons.
so all we have to do now is wait for the dock firmeware update next week?
I think the one pushed via OTA will have a higher build number

UPDATE 2: seems the web based one in 720p is fantastic 1080p not so much. This does for both stock browser and dolphin beta 3.

Easier install method if you don't like fiddling around with the power button:
1) Make a folder called ASUS/Update from the root of your microSD card
2) Drop the .zip in there, rename to 'US_epad-user-8.4.4.5.zip' (not sure if the renaming is totally necessary)
3) If you're doing this on the Transformer itself, eject and remount the SD card. If on your PC, just plug the card in.
4) Click the update notification, it'll start the updater on it's own.

3.2 OTA "the update is invalid and has been canceled"

I keep getting a notification that a system update is available but after it downloads and tries to install, I get the error "the update is invalid and has been canceled"
Did this six times with the same result. What's going on?

Assuming you are not rooted or modded, the only thing I did (and always do) is remove my transflash card before I do an update. If you DO mod or have root, maybe it's something else.
So my recommendation for now is to remove your msd card, that is if you even have one plugged in and then download and apply the update. If you don't have one in there, no suggestions here right now. I am stock, have never rooted or modded my system and my OTA was perfection. It downloaded and updated without a hitch.
GL, let me know how it goes.

Good to hear! Now you know.
Enjoy your Iconia.
Realllllly interested to know why the sd card is causing the update to fail, that's strange.
if you download the patch fix from Acer support site, it also fix the "the update is invalid and has been canceled" error. That is how I solved the problem. It is good to know that the SD card is the main cause as I also inserted my SD card.
What about Acer informing about those "how to do" basic things.

We have 3 Acer 500's ( NOT Rooted) in our family, two of them got the updates without any problems.......one even had an external sd card in it.
However, the third unit has NO sd-card and is NOT able to complete the update.
I hate to perform a factory (hard) re-set on it, as this unit has many apps installed.
Any new suggestions would be grately appreciated.

Not your post, it was what I wrote.... Just didn't drank my morning coffee and I wrote something not relevant to help you. Sorry for the confusion
Perhaps the 3.2 OTA update is getting corrupted during the download. It seems to be a zip file of some 357 MB.
Does anyone know in which folder the zip file is stored, and the name of the file?
I'm thinking I could try to delete the file and download it again. Then try to install it
My goal is to avoid a Factory (hard) reset.
For those posting that they're not rooted, it may be helpful to also note if it ever was rooted previously. I unrooted, or thought I did, and was getting hung at the Bee logo with an "!". I had to re-root, unintall anything related to root, including reflashing the stock rom, reversing everything that USB Mount All had done, re-enable the phone checking services and uninstall the battery saving app afterwards, THEN I was able to successfully update. Turns out I really didn't have a need for root access.
I had the same error message and tried twice before it finally went through the third time. I was rooted, but with the stock ROM. I also had an SD card in and removed it for my second try. I did not remove root for any of my attempts. On my third try, I left the SD card in and it updated. Wish we could get some consistency so we could try and determine the cause(s).

2 stupid and 1 not so stupid question(s), but I have to get it out of the way.
Do you have it plugged in? The tablet may not update if the battery is too low.
The other silly question - how much space is it reporting as free? I don't know if this issue still persists for some, but I remember reading a while back where people's tablets were mysteriously 'filled up'. Since you have lots of apps anyway, could you check to make sure you have enough space free?
Finally, are you setting the tablet and wifi to never turn off? I always make sure my wifi is set to always on (which it usually is set to anyway) and also that my screen timer is set to 30m or Never so it doesn't turn off. Just in case it matters. 30m for small updates, Never for large ones.
The file is supposed to download again if it doesn't work - does it not? I have no idea where it goes. A dev may be able to help you there. If you need it to re-download, I think you can just perform a manual check and it should ask you if you want to get it. (I think).
Since some people have reported that the update works WITH the sd card in there - perhaps you can try some reverse psych. and pop in a msd, see if that works.
Let me know how it goes or if you got it to work.
Interesting questions and comments. The answer to all 3 is Yes, Yes, Yes.
Thanks.
This is why I love coming to THIS forum. So many more ideas that help identify and solve the issue. Most of the other forums I looked at said "factory reset, hard reset, factory reset, hard reset..." I come here, and I see "unseat the MSD card, set wifi to always on, set screen blackout to 30 mins, etc." And VOILA! Success!
Mine is a US-based unrooted A500, 16 gig MicroSD card, and lots of apps. I was dreading the thought of doing a hard reset, as I didn't want to lose all the apps (and the info stored therein), and have to spend the better part of a day restoring everything (had to do it before; this is my second A500, as the first was stolen at the Ostiense train station in Rome). So here are the ideas I took from the above posts to get the update to work:
1 - In "Settings" set Wi-Fi Turn Off to "Never" or "Never if plugged in."
2 - Also in "Settings" set Screen Turn Off to "30 minutes."
3 - Power off your tablet, and remove the Micro SD card (if you have one installed).
4 - Power on your tablet, go back into "Settings," and go into the About Tablet section on the bottom left.
5 - Tap "System Update." If the update was downloaded previously, it's likely you'll go straight to the Ready to Install pop-up. If this is the case, run the update, and let it fail.
6 - Once the update fails, go back into the About Tablet section as above and tap "System Update" again. This time, you should get the Download Update pop-up.
7 - Let everything download, and then run the installer when it pops up.
8 - Cross your fingers and toes, and pray to whatever deity you worship that the install is successful. It worked for me at this stage.
Might be something with the wifi or screen blackout settings that causes the download to corrupt. Might be something with the MicroSD card. Whatever it is, give this process a try, and try 2 or 3 times if the first one doesn't go through (as the system may still be trying to use the old corrupted download).
Best of luck to those who still have this issue!
Edited to add: BTW, once everything is working again, don't forget to back into "Settings" and set Screen Turn Off and Wi-Fi Turn Off back to where they were before to save battery life. Forgot to mention that. Oops!

Tried downloading the 3.2 upgrade again, and made it a point to have the Acer full charged, connected to the charger, and in close proximity to the wireless router. The download was successful, and the file unzipped ok and the installation proceeded smoothly as expected.
Many thanks to all those who made suggestions.

Try with the dialler method, plus make sure the phone is disconnected from your computer before running the update.
Using your dialler, enter *#*#2846579#*#* to access the Project Menu > 4. Software Upgrade > 1. SDcard Upgrade.
Once you're on B370, check for OTA updates via Settings > Update. If nothing offered, you could manually install the latest: [Firmware] Huawei P8 GRA-L09 B394 29/03/17

Edit: So I download the update to the DLOAD folder in the SD card and unzip it from there?

That could be a bit of a problem getting rid of. Also, the update process will probably try to install it again (instead of your re-downloaded good copy), which will not work again.

Edit: So I download the update to the DLOAD folder in the SD card and unzip it from there?

Unzip it on your PC first, then copy Update.app to the SD card/dload folder - by 'SD card' do you mean external SD card?
I don't think this is going to work anyway, unless you can find a way to delete the old Update.app file from the internal storage.

Yep, SD card as external SD card. And alright, I'm going to try to find a way to get rid of the old update.app file.. Going to backup everything (except the update.app) and factory reset to see if I can get rid of it..
So I managed to get rid of the corrupt Update.app and unzipped the new one, but it stopped at 19% again, but this time said it failed and allowed me to reboot (didn't have to hard reset).. Not sure what the problem is?
EDIT: nvm, I tried for a second time and it's fully installed and have EMUI 4.0.1 running.

Unrestricted access to my memory card - is that possible?

Hi all,
First of all - forgive me if the subject has been up before - I did a bit of searching, but could't really find much about the subject.
I'm generally very pleased with the Mi A1 (my 4th "main" android phone after HTC Desire, SGS3 & OPO) but one thing that is giving me a bit of grief is this thing with access to my sd card, more precisely with copying content to the card by using different apps like root explorer, dropbox, dropsync pro etc.
Two very common actions in my usage are:
- Start an ftp-server on the phone and push new episodes of whatever tv-series I'm watching for the moment from computer to phone
- Open root explorer in my phone and copy stuff from my Dropbox folder to my phone (and back)
Neither of these actions can be done in my A1 (stock Oreo). The phone actually give the appearance of giving me the option to choose the sd-card but when trying to actually transfer something there it get's stuck before finishing or just return an error when trying.
So my question is - to get back to actually having rights to transfer stuff to my SD card without any problems, which of the below options would be the "easiest":
1. Does this work if I downgrade to Nougat?
2. Would rooting be enough if I stay on Oreo?
3. Can I transfer more freely with LOS 15.x?
4. Other options?
I actually found one thread mentioning this as a problem in stock Oreo so I know I'm not alone with the problem.
Thanks in advance,
/gosa
Hi,
Found this when searching Google for solutions this problem.
At the moment my only way of getting files onto the memory card is to download them to the internal storage and then using "Stock" file manager to copy them to the memory card... A bit to many steps if you ask me.
I was thinking that rooting might solve it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Here one more with the same problem. I have the My A1 in ROM Stock Oreo 8 with root via magisk, and it is tedious and annoying not to be able to write to the external SD. I use ADM, apps for downloads Torrent, Solid Explorer.
Having Root I had the opportunity to try several possible solutions. Here some of them (note: none worked, nor resolved) I expose them in case someone else wants to try, possibly something will work for them.
Root ??????
SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD. (Developed by NextApp)
Magisk Modules??????
App Systemizer
ExSDCard Access Enabler
Xposed ??????
Marshmallow SD fix
KitKat SD Card Full Access (Caution: gives many errors in OS)
Handle External Storage
One way to take it with Solid Explore (it's more visual than the Stock Explorer):
* Solid Explorer, to paste or write to SD, always go to Root / mnt / media_RW / SD Card
As I mentioned. None of the above worked for me.
The only way to solve the problem momentarily is to download and use the apps all in the internal memory, with the stock file explorer moving the files to the external SD in a step later.
If someone can give light to this problem or a possible solution I will be very grateful.
*(sorry for my English)
Have you tried binding folder/creating softlink
Could you explain how it is done? Or inform about the subject.
Just got 8.1 and the problem is gone.
