Yes, the update will break your root. It's no big deal. Use chainfires auto root. Google that. CF autoroot. The link to his site is here on XDA.

Knox being 0x1 means its tripped. That just means that you can not send the phone back to Samsung, as the warranty is void.
You should have no issues updating to KitKat.
I would recommend looking at your version number (MK2 I bet) and finding the NAE tar for ODIN. Or get a custom recovery and flash to rom of your choice.

Hi, is it possible to root the Note 3 without having to wipe all the data off the phone. I recently got my phone a week ago, and I know I should have rooted right away, but now I have all my apps and their save data on there and I dont want to lose that
I know on my old droid 4 it was possible to root it without losing everything, so I'm hoping its the same for the much more popular and know
and one other question: What happens if my phone recieves an OTA update while rooted? will it get bricked?

I rooted my Note 3 while I'm in MJ1 firmware with Root De La Vega method, and knox is still 0x0. During that process no data is wiped and everything is intact.
You need to know which firmware you are in now as firmware with MJ3 and above comes with a new bootloader which will trip the knox counter if you root your device

Well it says under phone settings that the kernel version is 3.4.0, and android version 4.3. I'm not sure if thats a sign of which firmware im on. I do know that also right after I got my phone a week ago that an OTA was installed to it

You need to look at your Build Number in Setting > About Phone / or in your dialer press *#1234# to get your AP version.
But since you say you updated your phone via OTA then it means your phone now has the new evil bootloader which will trip the knox if you root your Note 3.
If you really don't care about the knox counter and want to root so badly, then just root it with CF Root.

Well I guess I just have to be careful with my phone. My only worry is if i cant trade this phone in a year later for a new one, since im on the verizon edge plan. Then again, they took my beaten up and rooted Droid 4 without any questions
though rooting using the methode here wont break my phone even if i'm updated?

It doesnt seem like there is a version of CF Root for SM-N900V. were you talking about the CF autoroot method here?

Well..
I actually want to start a new thread. But it seems, there's a similar thread here (not meant to hijack this thread, but rather than have too much thread)
Hope someone can clear up my mind. Still new with this device (N9005), and this irritating KNOX issue all over the Samsung Note XDA forums.
1st Q : I'm on MJ7, and I know there's no way to root again without tripping KNOX. Am I right ?
2nd Q : If let's say I don't care about KNOX warranty issue, and up to now, I haven't used/activated the KNOX container/apps. If I root my device use CF-AutoRoot, will I be able to remove all the KNOX container & apps ?
3rd Q : Still in link of 2nd Q, If let's say after root with CF-Autoroot, and KNOX become 0x1, are there any effects which might make my device can't flash custom ROM ? or might make my device can't flash custom recovery ?
4th Q : Other than the issue of warranty 0x1 has made... Is there anything which might make my device run hell wire regarding this tripping issue?
Thanks!

1. That's correct.
2. Once you root the phone the KNOX container will not be functioning anymore although the knox app download icon is still there.
3. Tripping Knox to 0X1 doesn't have anything to do with flashing custom rom or recovery. You'll be able to do both.
4. No. In fact for me, Knox is the only thing keeping me from enjoying my phone so after just 2 weeks of owning it, tripped knox and I couldn't be happier.

Yes. You have to download this one. The updated CF-Auto root will bootloop your phone.
Okie. Many thanks for the link.
But why the updated one is not as good as the old one? Doesn't new version tend to be better... always?

The updated one was based on 4.4.2 so if you have 4.3 it will bootloop.

Ok, this is how I understand it, although I could be wrong on some things....
a) 4g on three has nothing to do with your SIM
b) 4g on Three has nothing to do with your ROM (Stock or Custom)
c) Three have not switched on 4g yet and apparently at first it's only four places, so unless your in one of those there really ain't any rush.
.
d) If your on a stock or even custom rom the 4g network setting does not show as an option, As your rooted though you can use an app called phoneinfo from the play store. Using this app you can change your network setting to anything you want.
e) This one I'm not 100% about, Getting 4g on three can only be modem related, you can upgrade your modem(s) to GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1 without getting Knox.
Please read up about e) as I've spent ages looking for a definitive answer and I think I'm correct, if you find anything else out then get back to me.
.... If anyone else could verify the above that would be great.
Hope this helps a bit ...
Cheers
Three 4G OTA Update on rooted phone
I am in a similar situation, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 Rooted with Kitkat ROM (Poland) .
I contacted Three UK about the 4G update and asked them to send it to me. I was told that closer to the time I should unroot the phone DL the update and reroot. However I am not sure that would even work for various reasons.
I think that the info mentioned is accurate we just need to establish the correct file for each phone and flash with Odin.
Any further information appreciated.
I have a N900W8 (Canadian Note 3) which is on 4.3 Jelly Bean.
It was rooted, tried to update to the OTA 4.4.2 and was denied with a "custom" error.
So I used SuperSU full unroot option, still custom system status, cannot upgrade.
I have downloaded 4.3 and 4.4.2 stock firmwares that correlate with my CSC from sam-mobile, my question:
If I use Odin 3.09 to install the 4.3 firmware again to get back to stock, will this trip Knox? Also I am assuming if it will not I would be ok to upload the 4.4.2 firmware directly after as well, via Odin 3.09?
Let me know if you can, really itching to do this, will not do it blindly however. Need an answer from another member before I go ahead.
I hate Knox so much, last Samsung phone for sure. Stuck with it now however, I had no idea about Knox, had I known I would have most likely kept the Nexus 5 I traded for this beast,

Well, Knox was not tripped when it was rooted.
The thing is, I did not root this phone. The person I bought it off did.
He did it right as it did not trip Knox.
Can I assume that since Knox was not tripped I can flash with Odin and still not trip it?
I appreciate the reply my friend.

No issues, back to Official status.
I actually have major flashlighting on the left side of my screen. Only visible with white is anywhere BUT the left side of the screen (Best way I can explain it). Anyone know if Samsung will repair this?
Not interested in defective hardware, it's obvious this Note 3 is a one off and needs a new screen. Hoping Samsung is not going to deny me.
Just need to pick up my replacement HTC One on my actual plan (Bought this one straight up, HTC One I had was lost, have insurance.).
REALLY would like to know about the flash counter before I send this off. It has been rooted with Root De La Whatever it is (LOL) then unrooted via SuperSU, then I Odin'd the 4.4.2 update. There was a checkbox ticked called "F.Reset Time", is that it?
I'll look a bit before making my own thread on this one if no has a quick answer.
Thanks again, XDA never lets me down.
I unrooted my G900T (previously rooted via Towelroot V2) using SuperUser so that I could update my firmware via Kies (OTA kept failing every time regardless of being unrooted). Now I'm unsupported by Towelroot... T_T

You can root using cf-root method be chainfire even if you are on the latest firmware
but be carefull it will trip knox and void your warrenty
if you dont want this you have to wait an update for towlroot to be able to root the latest firmware
I dont think towelroot will be updated seeing as geo works at google now...

Or you could do a forum search and stumble across better options.
No need to wait for a towel root update.
The latest update may block the Towel root exploit.. but you can still use Odin to install a pre-update version of your stock firmware and [drum roll], towel root will work again. And no Knox increment.
Samsung may eventually add another qfuse to block this method, but for now it works well. You need to revert to a pre June 3rd build of your stock 4.4.2 S5 software to do this.
.
Hi gurus. first off, bought my first note 4 some days ago.. always thought the note series would be too big a phone for me.. what have i been thinking??? this is hands down the best phone i have ever had.. cant remember the last time a phone gave me this feeling..
but I am at a crossroad here.. i really REALLY miss root, but a little hesitant regarding tripping the e-fuse/knox/warranty. havent had a Samsung since the S4 was newly released.
I do not want to flash custom roms, just root stock and debloat and titanium backup, xposed, ad blocking etc..
in this regard, towelroot, stumproot is genius i think, and still able to receive OTA. but does not work on the note 4 of course.
but what happens when Lollipop arrives, seem to remember that the L would be different regarding root? should i wait to root until the Lollipop update arrives, should be here soon for our devices..
do you think there will be a workaround for the e-fuse trippin?
in general, whats your thoughts about this..?
my phone is the Snapdragon, SM-N910F.
Don't hold your breath for a root that doesn't trip Knox, and don't worry about it unless you work for a corporation that requires the use of Knox.
Chainfire had already proven root on devices with LP; I don't see any reason to wait. Being rooted doesn't often seem to be a problem regarding warranty.
Thanks for your reply rcobourn. Would one be able to receive ota with Chain fire auto root? What's the preferred rooting method when only going stock.?
Will root make Private Mode unusable?
I don't care about voiding warranty with knox 1 or 0x1, but I want knox Private mode to work on a Rooted exynos.
Any one knows if rooted knox still works or it must disabled with Titanium Backup?

CF breaks OTA as I found out the hard way, it tried to auto install and soft bricked itself last night. Easy fix, just flash the latest firmware from sammobile.
As for private mode that is only broken if you use Xposed without Xsecurestorage

Not if it's rooted. Flash using ODIN, dunno what it's like now but in the S2 days Kies was an awful piece of crap, whereas ODIN always worked perfectly.

I highly doubt Kies will work properly, although it does tell me when there is an update for my phone when rooted so it might but I personally wouldn't try it as it most likely will do the same thing as letting it install the OTA automatically and soft brick it
