This might explain why no KitKat for us yet. - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

I guess all phones with 4.4 and Snapdragon chip are having some serious battery drainage due to a bug.
http://www.ibtimes.com/google-worki...android-devices-kitkat-qualcomm-chips-1559771

zero problems on my verizon s4 using the GPE rom. i've taken many pictures and haven't rebooted in over a week. granted i've not used snapchat nor skype so maybe the camera app isn't affected or the dev made a tweak that isn't included in the stock roms.

Me too on the official 4.4 AT&T N3 leak I've been using for about six weeks. In fact, my battery improved about 20%. VZW just launched the S-800 N12 this week with people receiving it starting yesterday. International Business Times (IBT) and all their siblings are one of the worst link phishing sites on the web. I (personally) don't consider them a reliable source.

Its just samsung. No rhyme or reason when, or how we get updates. Its the only thing i dont like about samsung. But they make the best android products, so I deal with it. They have gotten a little better in the last year though.

I say not until they can market the Note 12...
Why give us the same software? People may not want to fork out the extra 200 for just a bigger, more awkward to hold and use screen
So the Note comes out Tomorrow so maybe then week or next month. Who knows...

Purchase advice please

About a month ago, I decided to wait for the ICS to come out before purchasing the Galaxy Note in Hong Kong. After waiting for such a long time, ICS was released but a lot of users in HK have been complaining several issues since then. I also heard complains of a few common issues (e.g. poor battery life, worse response time) from users in other countries. However, there are also people who are satisfied with the update. What suggestion do you have?
I can buy the Note in Canada, HK or China. Not sure if I could get an international, unlocked version without signing for a contract with a carrier in Canada.
If the issues are due to bugs in the ICS, all the users should have the same problems. However, some users have reported that after the upgrade, their Note performs better than before. I am confused.
I am currently in HK. As some of you may know, usually the stores here do not have satisfaction guarantee for full refund.
Another possibility is just to forget about the Note and go for the S3 which comes with the ICS. However, there could be other issues.
Any purchase advice appreciated. Thanks.
Note is a very good option to buy. Also with ics upgrade there have been mixed feeling but then there are always updates that you get from Samsung.
Another option is to install the room from many of our developers who do lot more better job than Samsung itself. For example I am on paranoid Android and I am sure I am not going back to the stock room ever again. My two cents

I went to a Samsung showroom in HK yesterday. Even the ICS was released 5 days ago, they still have both Galaxy Notes running GB. Perhaps they are afraid to let people know that Note + ICS = problems. I also checked with a Samsung store. The staff told me that he has not heard any complain. Yet, I have seen tones of complains posted on the Samsung Mobile Hong Kong FB page.
I can only praise the ICS on the Note, it is working perfectly and battery life is simply amazing. Go for it you will not have any regrets.

Galaxy note has no problems with ICS.. I am a heavy user of roms and other goodies from xda devs but since last week or so i have been on stock ICS lp8, n there are no issues whatsoever.. Battery life is amazing and the phone is snappy.
I always make a fresh start before installing any rom that is i wipe clean everything before i install a rom.. Therfore i dont get any probs
Anyways note is a much better option and just dont worry about the complaints, depends on user to user

Wait till note gets delivered with ICS and not with gb on it. ICS is okay atm it could be awsome but has alot of issues to be resolved. Some of them in fast forward,
battery drain,
wakeup locks,
brightness adjustment,
Wifi issue
Signal issue
overheating,
And ofc bricked phones due the kernel emmc issue.
Or I recommended that you buy the note and stay with 2.3.6 lc1 it rocks on all aspects. Except hardware Acceleration. And stay tuned on xda for news and don't jump on the ship when a new version comes, wait for people to test it and post their thoughts-comments for it.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Your options: Wait until the Note is shipped with ICS, or buy now with GB and wait until samsung deliver the ics. There are mixed feelings and experiences of the ICS upgrade and its more down to differing hardware compatibility issues that Samsung have yet to address, rather than specific software bugs. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all, hence one reason for umpteen different update versions of ICS spread out over the globe. Complaints on twitter and XDA about ICS are starting to build up about ICS.
My own plan of action now that i've owned the GTN7k since Feb. is to try ICS when its available to me, anything I don't like, roll back to Gingerbread. There is not one extra feature on ICS that I need, want or find remotely useful. I'f we're honest, that probably goes for most guys, but its always nice to have the latest and they'll never admit it.

Android 4.3 officially announced by Google

It will probably take them at least a month (unfortunately)
The 'Very Soon' didn't really sound like 'In a couple days'. I may agree with above. About 2-4 weeks is my prediction (purely speculation)
If I bought a GE I'd almost feel like I got duped - considering the major selling point was the timely stock updates.
2-4 weeks is timely compared to how it works now.

It does suck for those who actually got fooled with the GPe devices. It SHOULDN'T take them that long as they clearly have been working on it since the leaks have surfaced. I'm just ready to laugh when we see a partially working AOSP 4.3 build up before HTC releases the official OTA.

Well it only has been a couple hours since they announced it. The whole point of the GE was to get updates similar to the Nexus devices and if HTC can at least release it this week i will be happy . If not, this (sadly) is my last HTC phone as i have had several bad experiences with them already (but that is a whole different topic).
My window to return is today, so I may opt to return it, in favor of waiting to see what the Moto X announcement will be.
If that turns out to be a mediocre device then I may just opt to hop back on the One.
My biggest issue is paying $640 and not getting updates for weeks, but as already said here, it's only been a few hours lol.
4.3 doesn't sound like much of an update. A lot of little stuff, not much of which will be apparent to the user unless you let your kids use your phone all the time.
How fast this gets rolled out to the GE phones is not something to get exercised about, IMO.

To be honest i don't think the Moto X will be any better as far as updates go. It will most likely ship with 4.3, but it is also a big step back as far as specs go (according to the leaked spec sheets)

I mostly care about the performance improvements. Other than that i won't use any of the multi-user features (i think that is pretty much the only new "feature" added as everything else seems to be under the hood optimizations and/or improvements.)
Disregard.

Unlock the latest and greatest from Google with the best smartphone for you.
Booming audio and an awesome camera in a sleek package, now featuring the latest version of Android from Google.
The latest in Android.
The Google Play edition phones automatically receive updates of the latest Android software. Optimized for the latest apps, more storage for your content and a fast, clean user experience all come standard.
Always want the latest and greatest? Upgrade your handset with no carrier commitment or contract.
Edit: it may not be HTC/Samsung saying it directly, but it is in fact on the actual device page and it repetitively says you will have the latest and greatest updates from Google.

[RUMORS] Galaxy S2 might not get Android 4.2

Sammobile:
Galaxy S2 might not get Android 4.2 update, due to “adjustment problems with TouchWiz”
http://www.sammobile.com/2013/07/30...ate-due-to-adjustment-problems-with-touchwiz/
Bad news for all of us... :crying: :crying: :crying:
Samsung Touchwiz crap
Not going to flash even if they release 4.3. I prefer to be on CM. Much more smooth and better battery life.
Good said Modej,
I also using AOKP but with some touchwiz features 1. Because I like it touchwiz launcher.
And Second I want in AOKP that be another lockscreen but I think it's not possible :/
We only need egl blobs and kernel source from GS3 4.3 to run CM10.2 well (not stable but pretty decent like CM10.1).

Agree and disagree with your comment. 100% agree with the smoothness part but sammy 4.1.2 roms with a good stock kernel offer the best battery life (Up to 7hrs screen on time, my record was 6 hrs screen-on time spread over about 1 day)
What a lame excuse for not updating.
Sincerely shame on you Samsung.
I think it's not a surprise. Sammy couldn't give us usable exynos drivers for oasp. So they probably couldn't figure it out themselves. Looks bad anyway. ..

Unfortunately, based on what other brands are doing, we cannot blame so much Samsung. We got last official update few weeks ago for a device which is in the market from beginning of 2011. Of course who bought the device one year after it was in the market (like me!) got a better price but having more or less one year of software support and counting mostly on XDA community to keep the device alive.
We should blame who has promised 18 months of updates but failed to keep their promises (I know HTC for example).
Most of the cases there are not technical reasons not updating devices but just marketing. I would be happy having 24 months as minimum software support.
Correct me if Im wrong but I havent read any on that article that it is official? So why go on rampage blaming Samsung on the statement which might be a fallacy? You will just stress yourself.

4.3 seems a little far fetched. ....considering the aging of our device .I doubt Samsung will push any further updates for us ...
And its so silly. They said that s2+ will get the update bcuz it has more power than S2 (seems lik a marketing strategy 2 me)...
On tge the latest report it says Samsung owns 47% of all android devices.i think out of those 30% represents S2, S3 & S4 .
S2 still has a very large scale of users , its a shame Samsung is leaving us in the dark..
Well I guess its time to move on to S3 , S4 , N4 or H One ...

But dont blame the Manufacturers too much
Everyone should think back to the Times where Android wasnt there
Symbian times for Example... Updates came pretty Slow BUT they came and where everytime pretty Bugfree and with Really Good Performance and all that
The Update Floods on the Android OS doesnt makes it any Easyer for the Manufacturers nor the Devs i think
Google makes everything very Complicated for everyone, and i am sure that all Manufacturers first gonna bring out the newest versions to the newest Phones
Why ...Pfff Because they Have to keep The NEW things more up to date then the Old .
Well I know other nonnexus android manufacturers are much worse. I'm not even sure the HTC Sensation and Xperia arc of 2011 received 4.1.2 yet.
But seriously samsung can't compare with those manufacturers as they are not as big as samsung.
Samsung should see how apple gives software updates to old phones as apple is the only manufacturer as big as samsung and hence their main competitor.

Here is where you miss the point.
Apple has like what 5 devices to support?
3GS, 4, 4S, 5
Whereas Samsung has a portfolio the size of an Apple Farm.. XD
So they focus on the newer models which is natural, to boost their sales and try to keep up with others.
And while they do, Google keeps launching updates after updates.
One such example is,
Galaxy S Advance, It was supposed to get ICS but by the time it's turn came, ICS was outdated, so Samsung directly gave it GB to JB.
I think we will get our 4.2 update somewhere around my birthday in Nov'13

I think what samsung should instead do is to give the best support for those who paid more for the premium Galaxy S line and note line, otherwise their image will be no better than their mid range and budget phones line.
It's their own fault since the beginning actually. Their flagships so far is S, S2, S3, S4, Note 1 and Note 2. However, each flagship got so many variants. For example, the S4 has 14 variants including the zoom and active according to wikipedia.
Samsung might be able to convince people to buy their product. However, I'm afraid they can't convince people to buy their product for the second time.

Not exactly looking forward whether Samsung will push an update for us but they've got a point there. I think Samsung's not particularly concerned about customer satisfaction which means just like the others said that Samsung's likely to update the newer devices that's still in the market to increase their sales.

I find the LG G2 gorgeous, but what about their bad update policy?

Are they still that bad or have they improved? I would really love to get this phone, i really find the design amazing and the current software it seems to have on it wonderful. The battery life i've seen posts of seem to be great as well. The only thing stopping me is my concern for updates.
The last LG phone I owned was the thrill 3d phone. It was awful and I swore I would never get another. LG really stepped up their game and with this phone being across 4 major carriers I think they will try to stay on top of updates for a few months. Have no fear, the carriers will slow them down even more.

Since the international and US GSM version are supposedly the same hardware wise, maybe that means we'll just be able to flash international roms? Dodge the whole carrier bit.
Samsung and HTC were notorious for bad update policies. If you can't run with the dogs, stay on the porch. I have a feeling that LG will be fine in this area now.
I asked a similar question recently.
Developer support for ROMs and kernels are way better than official updates from a manufacturer. After a week we already have root, a custom ROM, and a way to flash kernels once a kernel dev comes around. I would say this phone will most likely have plenty of dev support because not many phones have so much activity and success just within the first week.

Exactly. Soonest possible update IMO from LG wouldn't even go into effect for another 6-8 months from now due to each carrier having their own way with releasing the updates. That's IF LG tried putting an update out 2 months from now, add another 6 months to that via carriers before release. Within 6 months i'm sure the dev community will be flying and already 5 steps ahead of LG's update, if any . Only thing Devs CAN'T do is update the firmware or OS to say 4.3, etc without LG officially doing this.

for me, I'm in no rush. unless lollipop fixes this extremely laggy phone I can care less. this phone, as powerful as the specs say it is, is a slow, laggy, bad camera POS. I'm eligible for jump on 9/25 and it cannot come soon enough. I had a Moto X before this, and I was happy with it. the Note 4 is full of disappointment. I don't see how all of the early reviews were so positive for it, the moto x had embarrassing specs but performed perfect, the camera wasn't good but I preferred it over this one, at least it opened and focused quickly.
I still wouldnt call it a "rush" though when its the slowest to market.

I have been using the unmodified port of SM-N910W8 Lollipop firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...t-unmodified-port-sm-n910w8-lollipop-t3072920) for a while now and it has made my phone better. Also there are many 5.0 roms already out which are infinite better than anything tmo can ever gives us .

Also samsung needs to do lot of testing on stable OS from google because of TW skin

I agree with a lot of what was said here, but if you're on XDA, why not root and flash a custom ROM if you're unhappy with your phone? I've tried at least 4 ROMs for the Note 4 (and many more with the Note 3) and have found at least a couple are almost perfect and most have been far superior to stock in every way. And I'm just talking about normal performance; with root you also have the ability to add and subtract apps and features and theme your device and truly make it yours. With a custom ROM and all the options and performance root brings, we really won't need to update for years from the current OS. But if Samsung would lighten up TouchWiz, the updates would come faster.

You are not alone my friend. As much as I love them. .I finally flashed rapture again last night. Developers are limited as far as how great they can make touch wiz....Samsung as limited because Google dropped a messed up os to begin with its a shame really

G4???? Lmao
BAD ASS NOTE 4
So some people are not happy and wish to stay with their old phones or even want to sell the note because an incremental update is late. LOL, that's f**king absurd.
