I got the Note 8 with LTE, stock Android 4.0.2, and signed up for a one year, country based unlimited Skype Out subscription.
The Skype experience was initally frustrating, where the audio was erraticallly routed between internal and external speaker on the device, and not reliably to the Bluetooth headset. The dial pad didn't when reaching switchboards requiring dialling a number or hash sign. I switched to v 3... where sound functioned a little bit better, but dial pad was still not functioning once reaching the switchboard. Skype v 3.. also worked better for tablets because it displayed in landscape mode.
As of the latest version, v 4.6.0.42007 of Feb 18, 2014, the sound now gets correctly routed and works with the BT headset! The dial pad also functions in switchboards. Additionally, Skype automatically switches between landscape and portrait mode. Yay!!
Finally, this now functions as a normal phone using Skype Out flat fee.

Does anyone know whether the latest Skype update works OK with the Note 8.0? I've been using an old version so I can hear the other party, otherwise there was no sound whatsoever.
(maybe I'll just install it and see for myself...)

Try an uninstall for skype and then a clean install from Google Play. I put it on the internal storage, not on the card.

You have to turn ON the camera to get the loud-speaker working. Once you have the sound, its possible to turn OFF the camera retaining the sound.
Its weird that there is no speaker button in call, just camera. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

Problems loading to storage card
I have uninstalled v2.1 & tried to re-install this version. Keep getting an error that it will not install & to try another location (ie main memory).
Tried a soft re-set. Still no joy.
Anyone else managed to install on a memory card?
I have it on the memory card as it is around 5.5MB's

Any news of Skype using the TYTN front Cam?
Have used the new version 2.2 today and it's nice but don't think it works with webcam yet.
Has anyone heard if Skye will produce a version that enables the front cam on tytn for video calls?

Hello,
Did you also get that message :"could not start Skype" then "couldn't find all the necessary files to start Skype. Please try to install Skype again. Skype will now quit."
If yes how did you remove all registry keys from previous Skype version ?
If it's not the case, anyone has any idea where the problem comes from ? The skype version is 2.2.00.20 (might be that there are some parts missing in it ?)

How is the lag time on GPRS or EDGE networks? Is it worth installing if you're rarely around a wifi point?
I installed it and it worked fine. Was amazed as the original needed a 300mhz processor and ofc ours only have 200.
Went straight on, and works identical to Skype on my computer.
Just need to convince work to buy a wireless network and I will be laughing
The version is 2.2.0.20 and I just installed it off the skype website.
It was working fine for me before over GPRS now it won't connect for some reason.
It works for me!
I've installed "lowCPU" version on my Qtek 9100 SD card.
It starts fine, it works fine.
Seems to be much faster and/or better custommized then non "lowCPU" 2.1 version.
Certainly feels a little more developed than my previous version of Skype. Call quality seems to have increased. I like the Skype Today plugin also.
aww... if theres any kind of upgrade for lowCPU ppc's for VoIP programs like X-lite so i can use my VoIPstunt account...
Cool! works on my wizard.
How can I get it to route the sound through my earpiece, or my bluetooth headset, instead of going to the speakerphone? It echos badly on speakerphone, and everyone else can hear my conversations.

Hi to all,
it works very well on echo123, since there are no echo cancellation issues, however in the real world the external loudspeaker=echo is simply a disaster...any suggestions on the use of the internal loudspeaker as in a normal telephone?

Hi,
I've just installed this skype on my Qtek 9100, all seems to work great but I cant hear anyone.
They can hear me fine but I hear nothing.
Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong?
how much does it tax the CPU?
I noticed they have different versions of the same beta for different models.
The Hermes and the Universal are redirected to this page (High BETA)
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/downloading_high_beta.html
while the Wizard is directed to this page (Low BETA)
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/downloading_low_beta.html
Both bpages display the same version numbers and release dates. Infact unless you look at the URL you can't even tell it's a different file.
I tried downloading both. The Low CPU version is only 4.50 MB and teh High CPU version is 4.85 MB.
I keep wondering now if there is anything missing in the Low CPU version.
Can anybody shed some light on this???

Hi,
here is the new Version 2.3
wfg
Starbase64
Won't work on a lot of devices. Can't record directly from the radio.
what devices does this work with? does the answerphone work silently by intercepting the audio stream of the call. I though this couldn't be done.
If it can be done. How!! Could have lots of fun with this feature
Has anybody testet this on a TyTn II ?
this software ask me for the netCF.. where can i get NetCF?
Tried the newest version 3 on Trinity and it does not work. It cannot play the outgoing message. I hope they can get this working on Trinity.
Not workin'
It's not workin' on my Universal WM5, i unzipped the folder, double-clicked on .exe file, nothin' happens.
After some testing I can say its working fine on my Hermes.
Recording quality is pretty good and it's customizable.
The call being receveid and recorded can be heard trough inner or outer speaker of the pda.
The pda microphone is switched off excepting for the first seconds while your message is played back to the caller.
I'm using iSecretary 3.0... you can find it here.

You mean that you can still record with good quality even when not in speakerphone mode, i.e. the software doesn't depend on the microphone picking up the call from the loudspeaker? If that's the case then the developer deserves the Nobel Price! Up until now everyone(?) have thought that this was impossible due to hardware limitations in the Hermes and almost all other PPC phones from HTC.

P.S what is Compact FrameWork v2 mentioned on that website ? Is that .NET Framework, anyone with the link ?

I truly agree on that, that is why i really wanna try this application. B'cuz, as far as we know, the hardware of WM phones ain't compatible to record sounds from microphone. Same is the case with Call Recorder.
got it running on the herald without issues.....nice app although I still wish I could get the Answering Machine from the stealth....but like someone said before I thought this could not be done with HTC devices so I'm happy anyway
Does it do as I suspect and just put the call audio to the speakerphone and then record that via the microphone?

yeah, absolutely pal. It's like the answerin' machine in symbian phones. The only difference is that, speakerphone is a compulsion(or a limitation) here, b'cuz of hardware incompatibility.

if they make play message easy i will buy right away!!
I couldnt get iSecretary to work on my Kaiser (Tytn II) i mean it would run but when people would call in they could not hear the voice message.
4.4 wont work on my jasjar
Why I Secretary can’t mute the microphone of my xperia x1 and why the caller can’t hear my answer message
How can I fix this using registry or any tweak tool for windows mobile 6.1

i've tested skype on my HD with wifi connection with a friend of mine that has skype on his HD
i must say it works JUST PERFECT! xD
skype to my hd work
But I can't get the Skype sound through the ear speaker. It comes from the rear speaker.
Are you guys using a separate version of Skype or a hack, or you guys are using a headset?
You have to use a headset, the sound comes from the rear speaker of the unit.
still no support for video call with skype ?
I would like to use front camera of HD for video call..
like cam.
hmmmz...
It seems it does not support BT headset as well. I do not have HD, but in my PPC the new skype does not work with the BT headset, its either with the rear speaker, or the wired headset.
If im not mistaken i read somewhere in the forum that someone had skype working with this bt headset
Hi guys,

no u are not alone! i have hd too and tried skype new beta and have the same problem! i read that we all should wait that skype publish a newer version! at the moment there is a bug or a failure thats skype software can't work correct with the cpu of the hd and all the other newer pocket pc's.
notice: everyone with a hd can run this beta version but u can't call (i heard that some with english rom could, but i don't believe them).
2. notice: u can't use the speaker on the front side for your ear, because skype has no access to this hardware! (at the moment , but in the future )

My WWE HD has Skype 2.5 installed and it has worked great with the official rom and many cooked roms. I had the older Skype installed which also worked fine but the screen was only displaying in VGA.
I'm wondering why everyone makes such a big deal about Skype using the back speaker. All you have to do is turn the phone around and it works the same, am I missing the advantage to using the front speaker?
Not sure if this has been covered here or not but here it is on another forum on xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3153030&postcount=61
Start tivi, then run skype. All sound comes from the front speaker, not the back. Make sure to turn off tivi when you're done with skype, as ALL sounds will be rerouted to the front speaker, not just voice calls.

Hi all
Ive been doing some searching and found out how to use Skype through the ear piece just like a normal call. Go to www.fring.com and download the application. It realy works great. You can use it through your network provider and also through a wireless connection. Good feature is that it can include other applications such as Yahoo Messenger, MSN and loads more!
Hope this thread was of use....let me know how you get along!

skype v 3.0 (beta) for windows mobile is out !
the new version for wm (beta) is out !
Can somebody explain why it's not possible to make video calls using skype, whereas with a PC, it's possible.
What's the difference actually ?
Skype 3.0 beta has a bug to call to Italy: it automatically removes the "0" from the city code. If I have to dial a number in Milano I dial +3902xxxxxxxx, but Skype automatically skip the zero so the call can not be completed.
Strangely enough if you dial a contact number, it is dialed correctly.
I wait for the final version.
Hi all
Sorry if there is another thread with this already but I am at the end of my tether!
I have a Galaxy S4 with Android 4.2.2 and am having problems when paired to my Merc B200 with Audio 20.
I believe this may be a common problem but I just need confirmation from someone in the know.
ISSUE:
I can pair with the head unit no problems, but when I make and receive calls, there is no audio. Apparently the other end can hear me, but I am unable to hear them.
Audio is on max, both on the phone and the audio 20.
Any ideas? Is this a software issue?
I did contact Samsung, who obviously told me that this was down to the car manufacturer and MB told me to buy an older phone (great advice!).
My wifes Iphone 5 works flawlessly, as did my Iphone 4s.
MB seem to be under the impression that a car firmware update will no resolve the problem and basically I am scuppered. Surely bluetooth should be backwards compatible!!!
Cheers
Andy
I got a blackberry to work with a mb car kit a while ago, not sure of the symptoms the user was seeing but he was pairing from the phone to the kit. I tried pairing the phone from the car kit and it then started to work flawlessly.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk (how ironic is that eh)
might be a similar issue
Not sure if it's the same thing but I'm at a loss as to what to do. I bought the Jaybird SB2 bluetooth headset. I've read elsewhere others have had issues connecting to Mac's (I have the same connection problem with my Macs) but they worked fine with my old Galaxy S2 (when it had pre-jelly bean rom). As soon as I upgraded the sounds cuts out after a couple of minutes although the player says the music is playing. I can get it to work again for another couple of minutes by disconnecting then reconnecting the bluetooth. I then flashed a custom JB rom (supernexus I think) on the old S2 and everything worked perfectly. I've just got my stock S4 and the same problem with the bluetooth keeps happening.
I can only think it's a software problem since the headphones work perfectly with my Nexus 7 and my old S2 with this custom rom but I can't find anything online elsewhere recording the problem. Not really sure where to turn for help since I doubt Samsung will care.
Unsure if 100% related, but I've had some issues with BT on my Subaru Outback ('13).
When I am (simultaneously):
1) Charging
2) Connected to my car stereo via Bluetooth
3) Playing music (using default GS4 music widget)
4) Navigating w/ Google Navigation
The Google Navigation voice cuts out half way through giving the direction.
"In 250 feet, turn right onto" ... ... ... ... nothing
It's really horrible, especially because this is the PRIMARY use for my phone (car audio & nav).
Update:
Winamp doesn't interrupt nav, but I lose BT controls on steering wheel.
AVia doesn't either and keeps BT control functionality.
All music players I've tried, however, just seem to crash at random...
They either stop altogether or think the music is still playing but no audio is on.
All of this is resolved by using Aux instead of BT.
This is what leads me to believe it is BT related.
Anyone with experience or help here, that'd be awesome...
I've had a breakthrough with mine
I installed an app called 'Soundabout' from the playstore that reroutes any audio to a BT device, this did the trick, I now have audio both when making and receiving calls.
It also works for a2dp streaming issues.
The odd thing is though, I deleted the app afterwards just on the off chance that it fixed anything in the background.... And it did! My BT audio is now working seamlessly without the app!
I am currently running a flashed stock rom (XXUAME2).
Hope this helps others

Hi,
I have the same issue.
I have just got my new Galaxy S4, everything is working fine except the Bluetooth. I am having trouble to use the Bluetooth on my 2011 Toyota Car corolla. I am able to connect to the Bluetooth, and play music but problem with starting to make a call. when I say "starting to make a call" means I can make a call, but the receiver can't hear me and I can't hear them neither. I was able to answer the call or hang up, everything is working fine except no voice come out from the speakers.
The funny is it will work if I use Apps to make a call, such as Skype, viber.
I can't find any solution so far.

It appears that the setting may revert if you turn bluetooth off and back on again. After doing that, I had to go back into soundabout and untick then retick that box. Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? It certainly appears to be a default setting in the operating system causing the issue, which means it may be possible to fix with a patch, and Samsung should certainly be able to fix it in a future update.

it might be your rom version, tried it here with 4.2 and 4.3 and works without any issues and no need to install additional software.

Looks like the software glitch. This watch discontinued by the Verizon. Is there a way to fix the issue through ADB or some other mean?

yes the microphone still works for OK Google type stuff but it doesn't work as a bluetooth headset profile. You can hear them but they cannot hear you. Checked the log cat and it seems that there is a bluetooth stack issue.

That's great, thanks! I never use the phone anyways but sometimes use Ok Google.
Have you tried a factory reset?

yes and it does not make a difference
Hello, just bought a wear24 and after AW2.0 upgrade microphone Works For Voice To Text When Messaging But Not For Phone Calls Over Blueooth. Is There A setting For This Or Is It Aw2.0 Bug Or Wear24 Issue?
Also when I swipe down from the watch face to view the quick menu (eg. settings, airplane mode selection, etc.) at the bottom there are icons next to the battery level icon that indicate bluetooth is not connected (cloud with line through it) when indeed BT is connected. The watch face does indicat correctly when BT disconnects and connects. Is this typical with the Wear24? Another bug?
sounds like its a profile issue, based on other comments. No idea how to help, however.
I have the same problem. Microphone works with OK google or when I dictate a message but it doesn't work when I make a call. The other person can't hear me. Any help would be appreciated. I didn't try it before the android 2.0 update. Just bought the watch 1 week ago
Interesting... I've made a call to my house phone through the watch and my wife could hear me fine. I was talking into it like I was James Bond though, maybe that made a difference? Also she said it sounded just like as if I was on my phone and no I didn't activate the SIM.

Was your phone near by? My watch comes tomorrow, so I can't test this myself yet. But it seems the issue is that the watch is being recognized as Bluetooth headphones and not a Bluetooth headset.
Also are you on AW 1.5? Apparently 2.0 broke it. Not sure if it's been fixed as of 2.8.

My phone was on my couch and I was in the kitchen so it was about 18ft away.
AW version is 2.8. however my phone doesn't show the watch as a headset within the Bluetooth menu. In fact it doesn't show it being connected.
Did figure something else out though and I can't receive incoming calls. It doesn't notify me at all for calls. Other than that everything seems to work as should... I'm going to keep fiddling

Yes it is. But I do have an update...
This morning I did a factory reset. I let everything update first after setup. This time I disabled the SIM first before doing anything else. Now I have all the functionality but I too now have an issue with the microphone, but only in the case of using the watch as a phone. But I now can control incoming calls. So the only functionality I lost was using the watch as a phone. Honestly I have no use case for that but I do have a use case for ignoring phone calls which I now have...
As for what the difference is... Only thing I can think of is enabling the SIM which apparently gives you access to another app, probaby Verizon specific, which handles phone calls, walking through that configuration but not activating the SIM, you know the 5/month thing I was able to make calls through the watch using the microphone but beware the notifications were wonky also you lose your ability to intercept incoming calls.
Sorry if that was kind of confusing. I'm on my.ohone at work and trying to provide as much detail as quick as possible.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the problem is not with Verizon. Seems like is just the software issue from Google. Hope it will get fixed.

No problem. Honestly if I can figure out the name of that app within the system apps I might be able to give it permission just for the microphone and then maybe just maybe we could use the watch like James Bond. Not sure though I may try when I get home.

I hate to sound like a newb, but can you describe how to "disable the sim"

No worries I just learned yesterday.
Apps>sim info>three dots>advanced>stop using carrier or disable carrier... Something like that. Just don't delete
