Recording video - horizontal bars - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought my note 3 in December and was generally very impressed, well, until I started to record video. One of the main reasons I bought the 3, was I was ahppy owner of the original note, and have always liked Samsung phones, and had read it was a great flagship phone.
I hve notice these horizontal bars that flicker across recordings, its very frustrating, as I use the camera and video a lot. Its more evident in video, but does sometime show up on stills.

I originally thought maybe a software update would fix it, but ive now gone from 4.3, to 4.4 and now 4.4.2.. and the problem still happens.
Not impressed! Samsung have asked me to send phone in to be fixed, but Ive asked them to review the vids and assure me it can be fixed, before I send the phone in!

Wifi is the main cause of this problem turning it off solves the problem, and turn off auto network switch aswell in advance wifi settings.
It a software problem as it doesn't do it with other camera apps only Samsung own.

i also hv this problem also... please help us..
~i thought it is bcoz of the spare part apps. then i try to set it default. but it still same..
BUMP. Help us please
I have the same problem.
As a workaround, if you slide the camera/video slider, the Tab switches back to the camera setting, and the viewfinder is displayed.
I have had some other problems with my tab, like crashing apps all the time, I made a hardreset and now everything is fine. You may test it and report here.
i had the same problem with the camera app. sliding the camera/video slider doesn't help.
so i reboot the tab & its working fine now.
regards,
mike
Yup, i know, after reboot, the problem gone. So, if like that, everytime i face the problem, i hv to reboot. How can like that..
I am facing this issue too, any fix?
Damn now I'm in the boat, but I think I know why this happens, my camera doesnt show black screen or something, it shows the last viewed youtube video and if I switch to video cam, two youtube vids are shown.
So may its caused by the new youtube app?
So, all hv this problem by using the new youtube app?
How to revert back to previous version of youtube? Where can get the installer?
I also have the problem its not cuz of youtube app, it happens with videos that you watch any video from any app.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
i have the exact same problem..viewfinder gets stuck on the last frame of the last viewed video, and only a restart can fix it. Any news on a proper solution for this? I hate restarting the phone...
cam problem
Hello devs plz helps all with tis fix of viewfinder we are waiting for it, every time we use video call, u tube, play game, this freezes the view finder, looking forward to fix from you ppl, no hopes from samsung as usual
thankx in advance
I had the problem on the camera of SGT as well 3 months back. However, I sent in my SGT for an upgrade of firmware due to other reasons (not because of the camera issue). And the problem has gone forever.
When I encountered this problem back then, I tried rebooting, clearing of memory (RAM), it goes off for a while, but it came right back, especially when you view YouTube. It is quite annoying.
So, my advice to you guys is to send it to Samsung for a firmware upgrade, it just takes less than an hour. By the way, my SGT is stock ROM.

[Review] Video Calling On The Galaxy Tab with PC/Mac: Which Apps Work?

There have been many questions on the forums regarding which video chatting apps work and which done. If you dont wanna read my mobo-jumbo just jump down to the results.
One of the main reasons I decided to abandon my Nexus One and get the Samsung Galaxy Tab was because it offered a 1.3 MP front facing camera so I could video chat. So you can imagine my dismay when I found out that there were no apps that played nice with the Tab; they either didnt use the front facing camera or just completely sucked. Well, it has been a few months since I got the Tab and as expected, some apps have emerged and I'm here to outline a couple of them. There are apps out there such as Tango, Fring & the official T-Mobile Video Chatting app (powered by Qik) that work well with the Tab but they only offer Android-Android video calling which was pointless for me. I know it may be shocking, but not everyone owns an Android phone (let alone one that has a front facing camera)! I was more interested in calling between a Mac/PC & the Tab. Here are my results:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqZr6xTlPCI
Results:
If you didnt have time to watch the entire video, here's the gist of it. OoVoo offers a great video chatting experience but unfortunately the image captured from the Tab always appears on its side. This makes it difficult for the person on the other side to get a clear look at your mug and they basically have to tilt their head sideways for them to view you properly. This could cause for some neck pains after prolonged use! But hey, if they don't care then I don't either! And if that wasn't bad enough, the person on the desktop/laptop needs to be using a Windows machine. Ya, I know. Bummer!
Lastly we have ClearSea. This app is the only one that works "perfectly". It uses the front facing camera properly and it displays the images correctly. Of course, there's always a catch. ClearSea is only a 10 day trial and requesting a demo account every time may seems cumbersome but its a great alternative. One thing to mention is that the desktop client software is compatible on Mac & PC wish is a pure win!
In the end, I still use Oovoo because when I'm not on my Tab (which is rare) and am using my computer, I like to use the video calling software they provide; it feels more polished. I got an email from oovoo today regarding this issue so lets hope we get a patch out there quick!
Apps mentioned but didnt bother showing in the video (They dont use the front facing camera):
-Video Chat
-ReelPortal
-Yahoo Messenger
-Fring
-SipDroid
-Radar
Nice little review, keep us posted
no front facing camera workin on ooVoo
Hi, Ayman
I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab, Brazilian model GT-P1000L, and I simply can`t get ooVoo working on its front facing camera.
In the first time I ran ooVoo the front facing camera option was showed on its menu. But as I choosed this option, software just blinked screen and back to use the rear camera. So, I did tap on camera menu, and suprisingly that soft button show me no more the front facing camera option.
How did You get to use the front facing camera working on Galaxy Tab?
My Kernel version is 2.6.32.9 and ROM is P1000LVJJJ3(original).
my only advice is to uninstall and reinstall the app. im pretty sure the latin tabs have different hardwares compared to the US & Euro ones. that just means u gotta wait for oovoo to support your hardware. i would try emailing oovoo and letting them know about the hardware/software conflict and maybe they can add it on their list of devices to support. until then, theres really nothing else to do. sorry i couldnt be more helpful.
Actually both Tango and Fring work across multiple operating systems. I use both to video chat between my tab and multiple iphone users. Both work great and now so can skype to some degree
Sent from my SCH-I800 using XDA App
i use fring all the time to call my iphone buddies
you guys are both right, those apps do work but I really was just focusing on which apps allow video calling between computers and the tab. but yes, those do work.
Tango issue
I have been using tango and for some reason, if I call an android phone it works fine. When I call my niece on her iPad, my ffc shows her a very close up image. my inset looks normal. Is it the iPad or tango? any ideas?

Same thing for me "they said it was a talking NOSE" LOL
Also, the audio from the far end works for about 4-7 seconds, then no audio at all.
They still hear me.
So I have reverted to Skype, which has worked fine all the time.

Camera Autofocus making a buzzing sound!

I have had this problem for some time now! Didnt exist before.
Even uppdated my phone 2 days agoo and still there
So my Note 3 has been giving me camera problems. It looks like the autofocus goes crazy, making this buzzing sound. I can feel it vibrate.
If i push anywhere on the screen it stop and dose a manual focus.
Now the crazy part is im not sure that this is cause by a hardware issue since its not happning always! Most of the time but not allways.
Will do more test on other cam apps, but wanted to see if any one here have had the same problem? Any Fix?
I found a nother guy when i googled whom seem to have the same problem, he have even put a clip on youtube about the problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB8OTBJkpms&feature=youtu.be
One more thing.. The dum thing is that i didnt test it when i made a factory reset before the uppdate.. I dont know if it matters, but i did test the cam app after i did restore with titanium backup. Still this is the newest firmware and i came from an older firmware.
You need to go to service with phone .Camera processor is burned out .

I've not heard of this issue before but perhaps a software update will help?
Has it been updated to the latest Lollipop ROM available for the device and region?
Considering that photos appear to be free of the glitch I'd assume it's a software issue.
Try an OTA software update and if not then flash a stock ROM via ODIN?
Should fix it.
Hope this helps.
Tried a software update but didn't fix the issue

Camera constantly refocuses when taking video

Hey guys, so I've been loving the phone in almost every way until today when I finally used it to take video for the first time. I bought a tripod attachment for my MXPE and was trying to film a short video of me talking in front of a blank white wall. When I went back to look, the video was constantly refocusing with a terrible zoom in/out effect. Now that I've done some testing it happens whether on a tripod, or in my hand. Even on a static background, it will eventually refocus. If there's any movement, whether I'm panning from side to side or something is moving on the video it will refocus. Here's a short example. Don't be fooled by thinking I'm doing some crazy trick with my hand here, it will noticeably refocus for any reason, including me just moving my hands while talking in front of it. Also keep in mind the phone is on a stable tripod, so any movement is entirely the camera or software. I just didn't want to get on camera or show significant parts of where I live. I've searched to see if anyone else has this problem and unfortunately all I found was a reddit thread with almost no responses. I should say I'm on stock, no modifications to my phone. The camera is set to save to internal memory so micro sd shenanigans aren't a factor either. I've used the stock app, Google Camera and Open Camera and they all exhibit this refocusing behavior.
So what's up, are other people experiencing this also, or is my otherwise great phone working with a somehow busted camera? It takes photos just fine, though now that I think about it, it does the same zoom in/out refocusing when I move the camera photo mode too. I remember trying to take a picture of a spider and the camera wouldn't stop trying to focus long enough for me to get a clear shot. Is this a software deal, or do I need to talk to Motorola? If it's a software deal, why is no one else talking about this?
Edit: I used the "focus lock" shortcut in Open Camera and was able to make it stop. But that means I can't use the default app or Google Camera. What the heck guys?
Its an issue in low light (indoors) when the subject moves. I submitted a complaint with video sample on the official forums and moto responded it was expected for thr camera to re-search for focus when the subject moves.
However I later received an email from the moto camera team asking them for more information which I provided. Who knows maybe they are trying to improve it.
This issue exists on the nexus 6 also and is much worse btw.
I've made the same test and got similar results.
It seems that each time a new element appears the camera tends to change the focus, it looks like it trying to adapt to the new situation.
I'm also no happy with this issue.
Please keep posting if there's any news from Motorola.
Yes, definitely. I shoot a lot of videos of people playing piano, and it's constantly refocusing because the hands never stop moving. :/
Hopefully, this will be fixed in the future.
I have been having the exact same problem recently. For me, it's not even when the subject is moving. Take this video of my son for example ( drive.google.com/file/d/12BqfnL7OoEvV3CSWim-OCgxiHID4mrMeFQ/view ). Notice that it keeps refocusing even though he and the camera are barely moving. There seemed to be plenty of light coming in the window. Is there no way to fix this?
FYI, I finally contacted Motorola Support about this issue because it is so bad, in my case, and they instructed me to send in my phone for repair. Twelve days later, I receive my phone back, and the camera still has issues with focusing while using the camera. I wrote them back to find out what they are going to do now, so I will update here when I hear back. This is SO FRUSTRATING. I would not advise buying a Moto X Pure for the time-being, if you want a functioning video camera.
You can lock focus on the stock camera app by long pressing the focus bracket. I don't know if this was added recently but I found this thread among several others on google search and none of them mentioned it. Cheers!
I forgot to update here after my debacle finished.
Motorola Support had me send in my phone again soon after I got it back from them the first time. I asked them why nothing changed with the phone, and the tech said they mis-marked the problem in their system as a problem with the flash. /sigh So all they did was replace the flash and return the phone. What a waste.
The next time I sent in the phone, they just went ahead and replaced the phone entirely. I got back the new phone, and guess what? Exact. Same. Problem.
I finally posted the video on YouTube where the camera constantly refocuses, and a user suggested downloading a totally different camera app, like "Camera MX." I did so, and immediately noticed a huge difference! I couldn't believe the majority of the focusing problem was caused by Motorola's buggy Camera app, but that does seem to be the case. Unbelievable.
So if you have this problem, download another camera app like "Camera MX," and it should help the refocusing problem a ton.
