My favorite app for messaging hands down is hangouts. I have it on my Nexus 4. Is there a way to forward all messages and texts I get on my Nexus 4 hangouts to the hangouts app on my Nexus 7?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yes, log in on both with same Google acct. Sms may not go to device with out a phone number though
No SMS messages are displayed on my Nexus 7 but they show on my Nexus 4. That's why I am wondering if there is a way to forward the SMS messages.

I've seen a lot of apps that will send your phone text to a tablet but it seems like none are compatible yet anyone know of any that are yet ?

Tablet talk works great.

I use "What's App." Works great across different platforms (and especially for international texts - no fees!). It's like an instant messaging service, but it piggybacks your cell network if you're tethering.
EDIT: sorry, I forgot to mention that it only works if the other person has What's App, too.
I use Google voice, only thing that you don't get are the picture msgs.

Try HeyWire Link ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5tZWRpYWZyaWVuZHMuY2hpbWUiXQ.. ) in google play it is free and it works. Takes a few min's to setup and a little thinking because of the way the help files are, well there english is not to good lets put it that way. But it works very well. Hope that helps
Yes, I also use the fantastic product: 'Tablet Talk'
Rob has sent this from his Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I just use Google Voice which is linked to my Sprint account. Only downside is that you can't receive MMS.
+1 for tablet talk, it works great I just hope for more theme/customizing options in the future.

Whoah, great thread. Thanks for sharing guys. Think I'll try Tablet Talk on my Nexus 7!
Another +1 for Tablet Talk. It gets the job done.

Yes. Tablet talk syncs to your phone via WiFi or Bluetooth..so technically its using your cell service as an "extension" to your cell phone. I love it.

Google Voice, however like someone mentioned they haven't incorporated MMS into it yet.
Will try Tablet Talk tho.
I've used Tablet Talk for a couple weeks now and it hasn't really worked for me. I'm thinking that it's probably because of my phone. Does anyone else have a Galaxy S II/N7 pairing that works?

Be a bit more specific For example..are you using a 3rd party SMS program such as GoSms or Handicent? If so..read the FAQ for tablet talk.
Whats the issue that you're having?
Seriously amazed by tablet talk, my galaxy s3,suffered the sudden death syndrome, so was in a fickle, bought a cheap Huawei blaze and it's tethered to my phone and having to use tablet talk for texts and calls is amazing. Those using tablet talk for Blue tooth calling how clear is it.

If I'm not mistaken, In tablet talk you have to be connected by blue tooth or on the SAME wifi. An app called CLOUD SMS doesn't require that you be on the same wifi, I can receive text on my n7 even if I'm connected to wifi and my phone is not.

Well i found a guide on the internet for having whatsapp on my nexus 7
but
i already have it in my mobile phobe
and i have only one number
is there a patch or anything
or maybe sms forwarding
so ican use them both with the same number?
Is it the 3G model you are using?
Sent from my Nexus 4
Ive used titanium backup to back it up then moved it over to n7.

You can use them both with the same number already (I guess)
I use whatsapp on my Nexus 7 with the same number from my old android phone (But it died 1 week before I bought the N7).
Try this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844693
Hope this helps
EDIT: This doesn't work, sry. (Just found it out this morning)

No, doesn't work..
Here's the idea:
1) Backed up whatsapp from my gnex
2) move it to my N7, restored it, working great
3) Open Whatsapp on my gnex
4) Go figure
I found having the one account on multiple devices didn't work well. Messages don't get sent to all devices, so it can be random which device the message comes through to
I was hoping that the SMS feature in Facebook Messenger would be enabled for the Nexus 4, but it seems that's not the case? My GS3 has it and I heard the Galaxy Nexus does. I figured the Nexus 4 would too.
Any word on when more phones might get it?

yeah, I'm having the same issue too... I've even tried uninstalling/reinstalling... still no worky :silly:
Is there any way around paying at&t for texting using my main phone #? I don't want to pay them to get a few texts. I am still under contract. If I wasn't I would port to Google voice.

I would still try to port your number to Voice. I did it when I still had a few months in my contract. Here's how:
1. Port your phone number to Google Voice (automated process takes exactly 24hrs to complete) (Requires your cell service account admin credentials, have them at the ready).
2. Right after you request a port, go to your carrier's website and request a new number. This'll release your main number from the contract and dump it into their 'usable number' pool.
3. Pray until you get an email from Google that your port is complete.
4. Port your number to wherever you want or keep the number on Google Voice.
NOTE: This has a high success rate, but isn't guaranteed. You may lose your number, or worse: incur early termination fees (ETFs). I've never heard of anyone incurring the ETFs while following this guide, but it is theoretically possible.
anyone have success with this?

I have used it and LOVE gv, but be aware that you won't be able to send/receive MMS anymore
Also I wouldn't recommend that you port your number, you should just get a new GV number and then give that to everyone.

Also I just noticed the version of Google keyboard on Nexus 5 and 2013 Nexus 7 is different.... Also there is no option for Nexus 7 "Vibrate on Keypress" meanwhile Nexus 5 does have. I can't even uninstall it.

aw....i just hate the sound it makes....lol. Any suggestions? Hoping we can get a work around for Tap & Pay feature... I was really looking forward to it..since the 4.4 update. I don't understand why Google can't make it open to any handset that has NFC capabilities? right? sigh... hehehe
Turn on NFC first, then the menu will show up.

Even after enabling NFC and wallet installed, Wallet doesn't show up in the tap & pay list. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Wallet.

2013, running sideloaded OTA'd stock 4.4.
I'm stock rooted. I guess I'll try a factory reset, go from there.

Is the issue that the Tap & Pay menu doesn't appear in Settings or does the functionality not work? I have never used it but I just turned on NFC to check and once I do, tap&pay appears in settings. Wi-fi N7 here.

Tap & pay will only show up after NFC is enabled (Kit Kat only, NOT Jelly Bean for you n00bs out there).
However, even after I reverted to stock unrooted jelly bean, oem locked, sideloaded the update, & reinstalled Wallet....Wallet STILL does not show up in the Tap & Pay app list. So I don't know what else to do.

The secure NFC chip isn't needed for tap and pay starting with KitKat. That's why they added it at the OS level.
Tap and Pay is indeed present on the 2013 Nexus 7. I just enabled NFC to confirm that the menu shows up in Settings and it does.
Tap and Pay is present that's correct but Wallet isn't there yet. More talk about it here
