[Q] APX Interface. Any Success ? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, just wondering if you had any success in recovering a fully bricked Nexus 7 with only the APX interface available.

It's not impossible, but a backup is needed from the same device. More info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2455927

If there's none ?

Try to send it to Asus/Google. Without the proper backup, you can't do much.

Do you thing it's ok for RMA to be raised for software issues due to user's activity ?
In case it is not covered, how much is it gonna cost to get it back ?

If its not covered then you should get it back for free in the same condition or you can pay Asus to fix it not sure how much they would charge.

Samsung repair centres in the Uk and super hard brick, revive by USB JIG?

Does anyone know a website for official repair centres or locations in the Uk?
Also...I think I have a super hard brick as my phone is not responding to anything, PC can't detect it. Does that mean Sunsung won't know if I have flashed a custom rom and how many times?
Is it possible to revive via a USB jig and how?
Thanks.

Guess its possible if the connection drops in the middle of an installation and you`re stuck when the download might not be complete or corrupt, especialy when going from GB to ICS.

Here http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/repair/supportRepairSelfTracking.do?page=REPAIR.TRACKING
First register if you don't already have an account and request for repair. You will have the option to take it to a repair centre near you or send it to them for repair. I bricked mine when i flashed ICS, Binary count was zero but i had CMW installed. My phone was repaired free with no issues. I would advise you to just send it to them if your binary count has not increased. You will need to wait 2 weeks for repair though.
I was referring to the story I will tell Carphone Warehouse and Sunsung, I can't exactly go and tell then I flashed a custom rom that I made, they'll probably try and con me for begin so stupid for what I did.

Thanks for the advice, i've been flashing for ages now and never a problem, this is the first time I have ever bricked.
Btw...will they know my binary count with a hard brick?
I'm going to make a trip to Maplins tomorrow to buy a resistor and a connector to make a quick USB JIG before I send it off, sending it off is a last resort.
Pm me if you need any help sending it off and I will see what I can with regards a repair.

I had a superbrick, where the phone wouldn't even switch on (Also my first brick even though i've been doing it for years). So I couldn't reset any binary counters or restore any firmware to hide what i'd done. It was as it was, and I sent it off to Samsung and they replaced the motherboard FOC for me
USB JIG was no use. You may as well make yourself a JIG for future reference, but I think in this instance, it might be a waste of time.
All I said was, that I restarted the phone and after that it wouldn't switch on again - That was it. They replaced the motherboard for me

I doubt they will know if the phone does not turn on at all but if you can get to download mode so can they. And they will know your binary count from there. I have also been flashing for ages and this is my first time as well bricking a phone. It doesn't feel good at all.
I've went through the service centre and it needs to be sent off to Glasgow in Scotland, is it not possible to deliver it to a closer repair centre?

note 3 : Knox warranty void + efs break. A solution ?[

Hi.
I contact the sav. They check my phone and detect that knox warranty was void and rooted.
So no warranty, i ve to pay about 100€ to repair !!!
The problem is that my efs partition is break, ive no Imei on my phone.
Do you know if there is a solution to restore my efs without to ask to the sav ?
I précise that i ve only access to my phone in Odin. Not detected under Windows. No boot possible.
I ve made a backup of my efs by twrp but dont know if possible to use it. Restore by twrp dont worked.
Thanks
Your english is horrible. How did u lose imei? You should've backed up the efs as soon as you rooted.

Sorry, I think you'd be best paying for the repair. There is currently no way to regenerate EFS.

I think this is not applicable in this case.
The maker is only responsible for things that are his fault.
AFAIK the maker can not be held liable for something the user broke himself.
If you drop your phone and the screen breaks, then there is no obligation for the maker to fix it for free under warranty.
In the same way, if you overwrite the bootloader or EFS by accident and bricked your phone, then it is your own fault.
Another case would be, if the home button just fell off. In that case it clearly has nothing to do with the software modification and so the maker can not refuse warranty on be basis that the software has been modified.

I had a case on my Note 10.1 N8000 where the partition efs was deleted, yes the partition, not the contentes and I arrived to solve my N8000.
See here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204960 on post #4.
But look, this command and efs partition can be different or impossible on Note 3. Speak whit a Note 3 DEV. first.
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p3
PS: On Note 3 the efs partition is mmcblk0p11.
Good luck

Oh well. This sort of thing is always a risk when rooting. You lost out this time.
You might be able to get it done cheaper if you find a mobile phone store with an octopus box but then maybe this phone is too new to be supported by that option.

Return it and claim warranty, tell them that your phone suddenly went off and that you don't know the reason. They may replace the board for you.

Do you mean the bootloader that needs to be written as T-Flash to a microsd using Odin 3.09 or higher? (as per 13-58_SM-N900_Boot_Recovery_Guide_rev1.0.pdf) Isn't that just the same as sboot.bin written raw to first sectors of microsd?
I would be interested to hear if you managed to use that just for the "extreme hacking" angle of it :good:

I do not think the microsd is enough - the Note3 ONLY boots from microsd if you short R4075 on the mainboard - there is a notice from Samsung service somewhere around with a name like 13-58_SM-N900_Boot_Recovery_Guide_rev1.0.pdf that describes the details (and comes with a good picture of what you need to short).

[Q][HARD TROUBLE] Lost data, can't root and 4.4.2 kitkat cable connection issues

Hi,
I'm a newbie of this gorgeous forum, i've heard of it many times and so, i decided definitely to create an account.
I Have a Nexus 4, 4.4.2 kitkat with the Build KOT49H and about 2 weeks ago i've accidentally deleted, in explorer, 2,95gb mic records files of the program easyvoice recording. They were very important to me, so i stopped using the phone to avoid the overwrite of the hidden/deleted files.
I tried with two methods:
1) Hexamob File Recovery PRO [NEEDS ROOT] , i haven't got root never on my nexus, so the bootloader isn't unlocked too. I can't unlock it because it will wipe all the memory involving the data folders making a total format like the hard reset does. You could say: Backup it?
It isn't so easy, the files that i've deleted are hidden by the memory in the phone (this is why i'm trying to recover it...), unless i'll download or overwrite it putting other files on it, they will certanly be unrecoverable. I stopped using my telephone in order to find a solution to my problem.
So, i've forgot this way to recover my files, and the mean question i ask to you is: Can i root my device in order to use Hexamob without the wipe process?
2) Recuva, Dr Fone Wondershare for Android, Data Recovery, Restoration... ecc ecc
I even tryied to use Windows Softwares such as the mentioned above. But... "luckily" for me, how you should know, many Nexus upgraded with 4.4.2 reports bugs with cable connection with PCs.
Example: when i try to copy all the pictures to windows it give me strange errors ("The library, drive, or media pool is empty.") and i have to copy one to one files per time.
So all the softwares doesn't find the "Nexus 4 MASS STORAGE". I've tried reinstalling automatically and manually drivers many times. Nothing work.
I've only three possibilities to return to use my nexus. Or i wait a google update in order to solve the cable connection bugs, or i wait in april a Dr Fone Wondershare for Android Software Update release compatible with 4.4.2, or i ask to you, my only concrete salvation.
Thanks a lot to all. Really.
Hate to tell you this, but you're sol. You're unlocked, unrooted, and you can't mount the device as a drive letter on the pc. I'd check with the app that's going to be updated in April, but I'm guessing it's not going to work anyway. Let them know you have a nexus 4, I don't think it can do usb mass storage

I have a Nexus 4 with Android 4.4.2 and recently i've deleted very important files and i tryed to use Wondershare for Android to recover it.
It can't well notice my phone because after the second step, it begins by analyzing and at 20% say "The model isn't recognised" and it stop working by restarting the phone.

If you're rooted it works better than I expected it to. But as you know, if you're not rooted it doesn't work. It's asking for usb mass storage which asfaik the nexus 4 doesn't support. I don't think even the update will be able to get around that limitation sorry

You can call that a hard-bricked device I'm afraid.
Anything that I can do ?

If I'm correct you can test your device whether it's hard- or soft-bricked by recharging it.
When the device doesn't recharges any more, the device is hard-bricked.
Unfortunately when hard-bricked the Nexus is useless, like a single brick.
When it's possible to recharge and to load into bootloader you can try to flash it again as Trafalgar Square said.
Good luck!
Will there be any hope in giving to a service centre ?

Yes and no
Yes: they will replace the MB.
No: It cost you a lot of money, it's not worth it.
You can try to buy for 20$ a new MB on Ebay. I replaced a screen and my micro-USB a while ago and bought the items on Ebay for a nice price. GL!
