Really pixelated and laggy for me right now, but progress is good.
Yeah the stream is a bit pixelated and unclear but the Dev in the video was using an apple tv, is there a difference, or could it be my router?

Using an Apple TV is smoother and looks better. Chromecast casting will probably get better as the app progresses.

Yup, slight lag and pixelation around movement, using a n600 buffalo router. Loving the progress and stream to pc is a fun plus, I cant wait for more updates on it. Thanks for the share.
Very good start. I didn't expect it to work as well as it did.
I don't really see much lag, but the pixelation is there. I casted my N5 with a hockey stream on to my desktop and to my TV with a Chromecast and it was definitely watchable but there is definitely room for improvement.
Pretty surprised overall.

I just received this Galaxy Note and noticed that on youtube video playback, the HQ playback on various vids look grainy and somewhat pixelated. My friend has a Nexus and the same playback looks really clear. I've always heard great things about the Note's screen so I'm really surprised and disappointed. This is noticeable on different brightness levels. Can anyone suggest what I can do to determine if my screen has issues or if there is some setting I have to tweak?
You need to update your YouTube app as the default doesn't use hd, just hq. Also HD only works over wifi.

Thanks bud, updating the app worked.
HQ=480p. Obviously when you compare it to true HD, the HD will look better...

I hope you don't have the black clipping issue that is widespread on dark videos. By your're description of pixellation, it sounds like you might... :-(

I just got my note and it's showing the black clipping issues that are described here.... should I return my not and try to get one that doesn't have this issue?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
As soon as you can, yes. Some units play almost unwatchable videos. Better units r out there

hmm.. This kinda reminds me of the Samsung screen lottery from a couple years ago lol... I'm going to do an exchange and see what happens

sad.. im facing the same problem as well. while using youtube to view clip, the dark side of the clip will black clipping
So I just sold my Acer a500 with hopes of getting 32gb nexus 7. But my gf raised a point of, is it worth it since your phone is already almost 5 in. So does anyone else have a large screen phone an still enjoy an think their nexus 7 is worth it? My dad offered me his transformer prime for $300 so now I'm thinking about that since its way improves over my a500.
I really just use my tablet for web browsing an viewing power points an documents for college. So, do you guys think its worth it if you have a large sized screen phone?

I thought exactly the same as you having a HTC One X.. But the difference between the two is like chalk and cheese.
Go for it

Yeah I have a sgs3. I held the 7 last night an the screen looked very nice an fit well in the hand. Just worried about downgrading to 7 from 10 in. But for what I used my Acer for, the 7 seems like it will be fine. Just like I said in my post about it being not "too" far off from my sgs3 4.8" screen.

For me personally the N7 is too small for web browsing, I don't like to zoom in and out all the time. I think that 8-9' is the perfect size, but I don't see Google making it anytime soon, so I'm going to buy the N10 as soon as its available.

There was no WiFi at Walmart where I had it so I couldn't try web browsing. So I can't really comment on zooming in an out. On my 10" Acer I still had to zoom in an out browsing the web. Though it depended what orientation I had it in. Landscape I could read as is, but portrait I had to zoom in a lot.

Lots of people have their nexus now. For the rest of us, what are your overall impressions.
Great, good, average, could be better. You get the idea.
I've heard people complain about the touchscreen sensitivity. It bothers me that USB otg is lacking. Don't know if that will ever be fixed.
I love nexus devices. Had the g nexus, have the nexus 7, and I've loved those. Will I love this device?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
if you loved your gnex, you'll love the n4. its basically the same phone but faster & smoother. the screen is nice (better than the gnex) but imo not as great as the HOX. touch response is great for me, sound is better, all in all its a very nice phone. you won't be disappointed.

I went from an Atrix 2 -> N4.
Faster, smoother, less buggy. Faster. Snappier. Smoother. Sexier. Smoother.
There's a trend there.
I like what I'm hearing. Wish otg was going to happen

I use the n7 mainly for browsing the net and some minor games. The n7 is only two inches bigger, but it feels and look much bigger than that. I also have the ipad3, but it's getting a bit uncomfortable and heavy for my taste, so this 7" tablet is just the right size for me.

The "2 inch bigger" tablet have over 2X the screen size of the GS4 (N7 22.08 inch^2 vs GS4 10.68 in^2) , It provide substantially better content consumption(Video playback/Ebook +Comic Reading) experience and web broswing. I can even comfortably read/edit Word/Excel with Kingsoft Office on it.
Not to mention the Super Bright LCD screen (538nits, GS4's AMOLED can't dream to match) & Stereo speakers.
I have the s4 rooted and an considering getting the n7 as well. Quick question. I haven't found the answer yet but is the memory expandable?

I have a S4 and bought an Nexus 7 mainly because i want to read PDF and Word documents. S4's screen is to small to do this. But with 7 inch and FHD it is good enough to read letter/DIN A4 docs.Screen resolution does matter to me, so an Galaxy Note 8 or 10 was no real alternative. But I would have taken a Nexus 8 as well
I have both, definitely worth it for Web Surfing and video.

Please do not compare Galaxy S4 with nexus 7!! doesnt make any sense dude,,, i own both devices, think about, S4 is your mobile phone, so you are using for making calls, text, and web browsing! usually dont even last all day, need to get charge, where nexus 7 coming in and you using it for watching cheeky videos and playing games!
Thank you guys. Now I know what to do
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
I've got both too. At first I thought why do I need it S4 does most things well. But at this price I couldn't complain. Been using it since yesterday and barely touched my phone. The bigger screen is better for browsing and such. Playing games is better to with a bigger screen. Watching videos too. So far I like it.

One is a phone the other is a tablet. Two totally different devices.

I can go two days without charging my evo 3d now I have my tablet.
I own both as well, both currently running SlimBean ROM, which is very nice having the interface be the same across platforms, as well as being rid of the hot mess that I'd touch wiz. Well with it in my opinion to have both, even if both running stock ROM.

I have both. For me the N7 is an at-home device, whereas the S4 is an on-the-go (outside the house) device.

What's that? Get the new N7?
Hi there,
I recently purchased a Nexus 4 following the price drop and generally speaking I'm very happy with it. I do however have one issue. When playing HD YouTube videos, there appear to be dropped frames every 5 seconds or so. This gives videos a somewhat jerky appearance and is particularly noticeable in clips involving slow panning. I did not expect this from a phone with a quad core processor. The video buffers fine and there is no apparent lag in other areas of the OS.
I am running stock Android 4.3. The phone is not rooted.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Quad core doesn't really have much to do with video playback smoothness. It may be thermal throttle. If the phone is getting hot, it might be lowering clock speed to keep the temperature safe. See if you get the same behavior on a cold morning, or with other video playing apps.

Thanks for responding. I've just tried the DailyMotion app and it is noticeably better. I'll also try YouTube tomorrow morning as per your suggestion. I do use a case with Perspex on the back. Could this affect heat dissipation?

Any case potentially could, though I use a pretty sturdy one and don't experience YouTube stutters. Are you running the latest YouTube version?

Yes I am. To be honest, the stuttering is pretty subtle but its one of those irritating things that you can't forget after you first see it.

I've noticed stutters on YouTube when the screen is tapped to bring up the buttons, when watching in HD.
