Put phone in download mode, press vol down + power + home button all at the same time until the warning message appears then let go of the buttons. Finally press vol up. You can check there if reactivation lock is off or on.

Yes, I was able to get superuser working on 4.4, but when I tried to install TWRP via goomanager, something happened and I got stuck in a boot loop, I think it screwed up my recovery. I never got CWM or TWRP working so maybe I didn't actually have it successfully rooted.

That is because that file is for 4.3 and you already have the 4.4.
I checked twrp and it doesn't have an updated one for sprint 4.4 but it has a N9005 4.4 which actually worked on my phone even though I'm using a N900W8. If you want to try it out, download here.

I'll give it a shot, I don't really have anything to lose. I just bought the phone 3 days ago and I noticed I tripped a Knox 0x1 - but they said I have 30 days to return the phone so I might be able to get away with a swap....... hopefully

Did you:
Use the cable that came with your device.
Use the usb ports in the back of your computer. Don't use a hub.
Try on a different computer.
Get firmware from sammobile.com
These are all things that you should check. Also, I've had Odin fail a number of times and the for whatever reason decide to work. It can be finicky.

I also found certain versions of Odin didn't work with some ROMS. When I tried using a 3.1x version of Odin to root my I9505G, it didn't setup properly, but using the 3.07 version did.

Before root I was on the stock Android 4.2.2. The first time I flashed anything it was the new leaked 4.3 which worked just fine.
Then I flashed CM 10.1 and it worked but the problems started when I wanted to get back to stock.

I'm pretty sure it's the firmware version you're flashing that's the problem. If you know what it was before you rooted I'd look for the same version.
I have a similar problem
Hello there,
I have a similar problem but in odin it is a success but then i get stuck at boot.
To flash the file as a success, remove your device then flash again. By looking at your info, it says you have samsung knox which is a bummer (i'm in the same boat), you'll have to flash the same stock firmware as you did last time
Let me know how you get on mate

If Odin is successful but you get stuck at boot, do a factory reset in the stock recovery and it'll get you past the boot loop.
Would that delete my internal sd card folders etc?

What do you mean I have Samsung Knox? I dont know how to find the same stock firmware as I dont know what I exactly need. As in if I need the exact same as it was when I bought it then I probably wont have no luck because my countrys csc firmware is nowhere for download.
I just realised - Im probably a huge idiot - I just checked the store site from where I bought my phone and it says the OS version is 4.2 not 4.2.2. Im going to try that but does every site only has 4.2.2!

hey there mate , your having a problem flashing that file because its a 4.2.2 rom and you already have a newbootloader which mean Not possible to downgrade when you have Knox Warranty Void. and you can check this threadto know more about KNOX, so Download and Flash a 4.3 base in your country and you should be fine.Have a nice day.
Edit: You can download a Official rom from here base from your country.

The firmware you are trying to flash is a LEAK. Follow this steps:
1. Download the latest firmware android 4.4.2 Russia (SER): HERE and unzip it.
2. Boot your device in DOWNLOAD MODE and flash the firmware via ODIN (unticking Auto-reboot option). Take out the battery when you see PASS in green (like in the pic attached).
3. Put in the battery again and boot in Recovery Mode - Wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition.
4. Select option: Reboot system now.
5. It should boot android 4.4.2 normally.

Did you update your bootloader to lollipop? If so I don't think you can go back to KK.

I saw this thread before and tried this. Not working with me. Download stripe just stops at the beginning.
Maybe its a cable problem, dunno. Will try new one in a couple of hours.

took another cable and did regular upgrade with latest 5.0.1 for Russia, Odin stopped again, then i took the cable out and put it back. Odin was still working and everything was fine, still downloading smth in the phone, phone had text - "renewing 291 programs" and when counter reached 291, phone just rebooted with the old UI . Now i have old system back and Recovery is working. Should i follow your procedure to downgrade, cause i still dont like Lollipop?

I built this for the Chinese SM-A5100, but it should be compatible if your device is Qualcomm MSM8939.
This is as yet untested so ensure you have your stock firmware just in case.
Flash with ODIN in the AP slot.
CF-Auto-Root-a5xltechn

Tell me what happens in detail I may be able to fix it.
Depending on what fails is dependent on how it's fixed.
Videos of the root process is good as let's me see exactly what the issue is.
Does it flash?
Does it start the root process?
Does it fail to mount partitions?
when start the root process stop and the message falil and saw press button power for reboot

Partitions mounting failure?
Same problem here, the root proces fails. But for a moment, before it fails root proces, there is a message on the phone display (while in download mode), that the phone is locked (I think because of a locked bootloader, but maybe I'm wrong).
My phone is Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A5100 (Qualcomm MSM8939, Hong Kong ver).

You need to unlock it with crom service apk first.
Go to Samsung store and download it.

Ah right odin fails to flash the cache.img.
Nobody mentioned that.
Have you enabled OEM unlock in developer settings as its says 'auth' meaning unauthorized?

Update, I tried root process couple of times, I also changed all USB ports on my laptop. Finally I downloaded the older version of ODIN (ver 3.10), and I managed (with your help offkors) to root my phone. 1000 thanks for your root file.

So you can confirm everything works OK with ODIN 3.10?
Which version of ODIN did not work?

Yes, so far, everything works just fine.
Just to mention, after the root was completed, the phone "bootlooped" for 3 or 4 times, before it started up android OS (maybe that's normal, I don't know).
I'm not shure if the problem was different version of ODIN or the USB port on my laptop, but first couple of times I tried this version "Odin engine v(ID:3.1101)", the last time, when root process was successful I was using "Odin3_v3.10.6".

See post #13. Confirmed working.
Works for me too. ( I used Odin v3.10.6. )
Note : Because I removed the "auto-reboot" option, when the flash finished, I had to press Vol + , Vol - , home btn , power btn to reboot, so the rooting process started, and finally finished after 3 reboots.
BIG thanks ashyx ! Great job
