FAIL Flashing stock 4.2.2 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive been desperately trying to return to stock to unroot my phone for 2 days to no avail.
Holding the power button takes me to the Samsung bootloop.
I used Odin 1.85 to flash a HOME.tar.md5 file getting this message:
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..
<ID:0/003> File analysis..
<ID:0/003> SetupConnection..

<ID:0/003> sbl2.mbn
<ID:0/003> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
In download mode it says the following:
ODIN MODE
Product Name:GT-i19505
Current binary: Custom
System status: Custom
Knox Kernel lock: 0x0
Knox warranty void: 0x1
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30 (have no idea what this is)
Write protection: Enable
eMMC Burst mode: enabled
START [224, 1440]
Any ideas?

Did you:
Use the cable that came with your device.
Use the usb ports in the back of your computer. Don't use a hub.
Try on a different computer.
Get firmware from sammobile.com
These are all things that you should check. Also, I've had Odin fail a number of times and the for whatever reason decide to work. It can be finicky.

I also found certain versions of Odin didn't work with some ROMS. When I tried using a 3.1x version of Odin to root my I9505G, it didn't setup properly, but using the 3.07 version did.

Yes I have tried all of those things. I also downloaded all the Odin versions and tried them. Unfortunately all of them failed. Is there any idea of what the failure in the original post means?

You mean now or before the root? And my country is Estonia which has no stock .tar file anywhere on the internet. I read somewhere that you can just use a random countrys one and change the csc later so I decided to do that.

Before root I was on the stock Android 4.2.2. The first time I flashed anything it was the new leaked 4.3 which worked just fine.
Then I flashed CM 10.1 and it worked but the problems started when I wanted to get back to stock.

I'm pretty sure it's the firmware version you're flashing that's the problem. If you know what it was before you rooted I'd look for the same version.

I have a similar problem
Hello there,
I have a similar problem but in odin it is a success but then i get stuck at boot.
To flash the file as a success, remove your device then flash again. By looking at your info, it says you have samsung knox which is a bummer (i'm in the same boat), you'll have to flash the same stock firmware as you did last time
Let me know how you get on mate

If Odin is successful but you get stuck at boot, do a factory reset in the stock recovery and it'll get you past the boot loop.

Would that delete my internal sd card folders etc?

What do you mean I have Samsung Knox? I dont know how to find the same stock firmware as I dont know what I exactly need. As in if I need the exact same as it was when I bought it then I probably wont have no luck because my countrys csc firmware is nowhere for download.

I just realised - Im probably a huge idiot - I just checked the store site from where I bought my phone and it says the OS version is 4.2 not 4.2.2. Im going to try that but does every site only has 4.2.2!

[Q] SM-N9005 bricked, help needed!

I managed not only brick one, but two SM-N9005, trying to do the Root de la Vega (yes, I used the right files).
After entering download mode, Odin failed after a short time (blue status bar was 2mm long).
Now the phone only says: Firmware upgrade encountered an issues. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
But:
- Kies recovery fails
- I can't go into recovery mode, only download mode.
- Can't install stock ROM with Odin, fails as well.
- Can't CF-Auto-Root, Odin fails.
Note: Reactivation lock is OFF.
Any ideas?

I tried different ODINs running on XP, Win 7 and Win 8.

There is no error message on the display... that's exactly the text I see as well.
The only things that happens on the display the moment ODIN displays "FAIL", the blue progress bar freezes... I'd day it doesn't get further than 1-2%.
Normally there should be a red line with the error code/message.
All I can suggest is you try flashing stock rom using the several files (Kernel, PDA, CSC) method if you already havent done so already.

Thats not 'Download Mode', thats phone firmware recovery mode.
Can you get to 'Download Mode'? - ie. Green Andriod Robot screen? (Pull out the battery, Vol Down, Home and Power)
When I soft brinked my phone, I eventually got it working by doing this..
1) Boot into 'Download Mode'
2) Using Odin 3.09 flash Stock Kernel (my kernel file was 'KERNEL-BTU-N9005XXUBMJ3-1381515654.tar'), this enabled boot to 'Recovery Mode' where is was not working before.
3) Using Odin 3.09 flash CSC (my CSC file was 'N9005OXABMJ3_CSC.tar.md5')
4) Boot into 'Recovery Mode' and wipe all (System, Data, Cache etc..)
5) Using Odin 3.09 flash Stock Firmware (my file was 'N9005XXUBMJ3_N9005OXABMJ1_N9005XXUBMJ2_HOME.tar.md5') - this will fail.
6) Using Kies 3 Beta - Perform a 'Emergency Firmware Recovery', recovery code is required - this got be back to normal
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, no progress. Fails at the very same stage all where all my other efforts have failed, too.
Note: I am using the standard USB 3.0 cable which came with the Note 3. I have tried about 5 different USB 2.0 I have at home. Windows would not recognize a USB device being connected, but the Note 3 itself starts to charge the battery.
What was the csc of the phone before you tried the first flash?
Sent from my SM-N9005
SUCCESS!!
I went to the basement and dug out an old Win XP laptop, approx. 2002 vintage, which has not been used since probably 2005.
Plugged in my Note 3 with the USB 3.0 cable (of course at USB 1.0 speeds), re-ran Root de la Vega from scratch and voilĂ , it worked!
LESSON LEARNED: Do not use VMWARE FUSION/MAC to root. IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.

Need help URGENTLY!

k well let's start by letting everyone know, I have searched EVERYWHERE! for a fix and i CANNOT find one. This is really fustrating me. I am a noob to these forums but i do have little knowledge when it comes to this kind of stuff.
I recently rooted my Samsung S4 GT-i9505 and i wanted to unroot it back to it's original state, In the process of unrooting i don't know what i have done wrong but i get stuck on a screen "Firmware upgrade encountered.. blah blah, NOW i have tried all means to try and fix this by using Odin WITH the original firmware from which i downloaded from the samsung drivers website. Everytime i try too flash it, It always FAILS. There is a type of firmware i can use "I9505XXUAMDE_I9505TELAMD8_I9505DVUAMD8_HOME.tar.m d5", But this particular one installs SU, Which i don't want, It also causes several features on my phone to stop working. Such a the clock and i can't even use my wifi.. I have tried several times, Over and over to try and fix it through Odin, But it will not budge, I can load the phone to download mode, But can't get past that. I am now stuck on the upgrade issue screen and i am literally stuck on things to do.. Any help will be appreciated as i am in desperate need to have my phone back too working order! Hi,
Have you tried a firmware upgrade and initialisation with Samsung Kies?
Insert your phone model (GT-I9505)
Pull out your battery and you see on the battery holding place a S/N code, fill that in.
Reboot in Download Mode and follow the steps.
It takes about 30 - 60min. for the reset.
Hope i helped you.
EDIT: YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE.

You have new boot loader so you can't flash those older firmwares. If you download the MJ5 firmware from Sammobile it will flash with Odin and you'll be good to go

[Q]Flashing Lollipop help

i have been trying to install stock Lollipop on my device. i have followed both http://www.androidpit.com/how-to-get-android-5-0-lollipop-on-the-galaxy-note-3 and http://techbeasts.com/2015/02/14/update-galaxy-note-4-n910f-android-501-lollipop-official/ to the letter. This is also my fourth or fifth time using Odin. Every attempt has failed. i have tried Odin 3.10, 3.09, and 3.07 and got the same results:

My phone's download screen gave thisd message:
Code:
Secure Check Fail : sbl1
until i switched from "N9005XXUGBOB6_N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO" to "N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO" and also freezing any anti-theft app that may be locking my device somehow. Now the screen says:
Code:
Secure Check Fail : aboot
i am rooted (running Omega 24) and to be sure, i re-flashed auto-root
i have tried 4 different USB cables
No USB hubs, i am connected directly to my PC
Firewall, AntiVirus, and Anti Malware software are all off.
i have run Odin as admin
Reactivation Lock is not ticked
Some other things me screen says that may be of some help are:
Code:
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
followed by some coupling of letters and numbers and:
Code:
Write Protection: Enable
i am hoping that a factory reset can be my very last resort. i am contemplating reflashing my current Omega ROM and then retrying this.
Any ideas?
EDIT: Factory Reset did not change anything

Odin gave you fail in the NAND. This mean that you have lost plenty of files in EFS. Try to restore your OMEGA backup.

Damn, i don't remember. It seemed so long ago. i don;t suppose there is a way to check...
EDIT: while attempting a restore of a nandroid backup, i noticed something. The following backup files were missing:
.android_secure.vfat.tar and
.android_secure.vfat.tar.a
i REALLY appreciate your time and help, by the way. This is so frustrating. One person told me that they repartitioned and selected bootloader when they flashed, but was not advising me to do so.

If you want to flash stock LP, I would just bite the bullet and do it and first get a working system. Then install Recovery and re-root - I use TWRP.tar file so I can flash it in Odin and the SuperSU zip file that I then flash in Recovery.
You don't say which N3 you have but are you sure you have the right ROM for it?
Did you turn off the phone and remove the battery for a bit THEN go into download mode?
Are you using v3.09 of ODin PC?
I've done mine twice for other reasons since LP came out - I untick the auto-reboot so after I flash the stock firmware I can flash TWRP - then it's boot into Recovery and install my custom ROM (I use Temasek's CM12) PA GApps and the SuperSU.zip, then set up the phone - usually I then Restore only Data from my latest TWRP backup but on occasion I've DL'd Titanium from Ply and used that to Restore my apps from extSD.

That is what i am having problems with. i know how to flash custom roms. i was also able to flash stock KK when it came out. It is stock lollipop that i cannot get to flash. i am using an SM-n9005 (tmobile). i am going to try different firmware downloads (CSCs) and see what that does.
Also, i have tried Odin versions 3.07, 3.09, and 3.10

Do you know your original firmware? I'm wondering because some versions have different sized partitions and flashing another type causes fails. i.e. I had a HK S3 and had to flash a PIT file before I could use European firmware. Might it be something along those lines?
Have practically the same situation...
The furthest I've got is the following
Code:
<ID:0/003> Initialzation..
<ID:0/003> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/003> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/003> sbl1.mbn
<ID:0/003> aboot.mbn
<ID:0/003> rpm.mbn
<ID:0/003> tz.mbn
<ID:0/003> sdi.mbn
<ID:0/003> NON-HLOS.bin
<ID:0/003> boot.img
<ID:0/003> recovery.img
<ID:0/003> system.img.ext4
<ID:0/003> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
But again, with any version of odin and any firmware (lollipop or kitkat) i'm trying to flash, it stucks with
Code:
<ID:0/003> Complete(Write) operation failed.
PS I also have
Code:
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Write Protection: Enable
and my phone was originally locked to spanish vodafone.
Sorry for the delay. i just got around to giving it another shot and it worked. i found an official, made for TMOBILE, version of the firmaware.
Code:
N900TUVUFOB6_N900TTMBFOB6_TMB
for anyone else that may be having trouble. You can find it here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/43850/N900TUVUFOB6_N900TTMBFOB6_TMB/
i was using n9005 firmwares, which is usually fine except int his case i needed a tmo one.
Thanks again for everyone's input. Hopefully this post can help someone else out now.

i9507 Could not do normal boot, Odin mode

Hi,
I wouldn't normally post unless I really need help and I do, I've been at this for days, I'm stressing out because I really need my phone for work and I can't fix it myself...
My phone is stuck in a loop where every time I turn it off/on it goes straight into download mode.
It's doing this because I foolishly (without knowing what I was doing) used a .pit file I downloaded off of the internet.
I installed Clockworkmod 11 on my i9507 with the jfltexx i9505 rom.
It worked flawlessly except the 3G would drop out every time I locked the screen. Only 2G would work.
To try and fix it I downloaded a I9505DVUAMD8_MODEM.tar because I'm on Australia's 3G Telstra network through ALDI (medion) mobile.
The problem I had was that when I tried to flash the new modem, Odin would say that it failed.
So without knowing what I was doing, I used CSB_signed_Fusion3_TDD_0906_V2.pit
Now my phone is stuck in a loop where it goes straight into download mode.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this, I'm stressing out because all of my work is on this phone.
Please help, I'd really appreciate it.
Just flash a stock rom for the I9507 and you will be fine.

This is a really noob question but would you be able to save me a heap of time and link me to one please? My head is going to explode soon...
Edit:
I found this, which has the stock optus rom but it's an extremely slow (10 hour) 1.7gb download. I don't think this is right...

Neither mirror in that link works.
The download starts but doesn't actually download anything... It just sits at 0% with '10 hours left'.
Edit: Now it's jumped up to 22 hours left...

You can also try to reflash the recovery and then reflash the custom rom you were on. That should also work.

Noob again... Sorry. How do I do that? Reflash the recovery I mean.
I really appreciate your help. At least I don't feel like I'm about to burst into tears anymore.

Put it in AP/PDA (depends on the Odin version). Uncheck auto-reboot and flash it in download mode.

I downloaded clockworkmod touch 6.0.4.7 but its a .img file and I don't know how to use it with Odin.
So I continued with what you told me to do the first time.

The zip file on its own doesn't show up when I click open in Odin though?
When I click AP/PDA and the Open box pops up, it doesn't show the zip file.
file name must be PDA File (*.tar, *.md5, *.smd, *.gz, *.tgz)
What am I supposed to do...

Open Odin ,connect your phone to pc via usb ,developers options enabled in ...settings ...about phone ..tap 6 or 7 times on build and enable usb ...foutopsporing in Dutch...also enable unknown sources .gO IN download mode ..search for how to do it. When phone is recognized in Odin
(If in the section ID COM is blue or yellow with a number it ,youre ready to go...
Tap on AP and it will ask for a file ...navigate on your pc to the location where you have stored the file,at first choose the Chainfire root file(,leave all the settings in Odin as the are) .it will appear in the AP section and hit Start ,wait until PASS appears in Odin...Disconnect phone from pc ,shut down Odin , Start the phone again in Download mode connect to pc and follow the same steps as with root,NOW UNCHECK automatic reboot in Odin, hit start and wait for Pass.
This should do the trick
---------- Post added at 01:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:56 PM ----------
For root you need .tar file so unzip the zip file only once and flash that .tar file . For TWRP use the zip file,it contents the recovery.img NO need to unzip!!!
Sorry if i put you on the wrong leg.
I kept getting the same fail message in Odin.
I've fixed it now. I used Samsung Kies > Tools > Firmware upgrade and installation. It's taken the phone back to the stock Australian Optus rom. Not the original optus rom with baseband XXUAMH2 but a newer one running 4.2.2 with baseband XXUFOA1. Unfortunately I've lost all data on it but thankfully the phone still works. I was stressing out of my mind.
Thanks to everyone for helping, I appreciate your input

trying to uninstall cyanogen mod to go to stock

Hey I am trying to uninstall cyanogen mod on my galaxy s4 so that I can return it to stock to sell it. I was following this guide techbeasts.com/how-to-unroot-samsung-galaxy-s4-all-versions/
I downloaded my firmware off of samsungs site the newest firmware available for my phone. I tried to restore it and it gave me an error about xmitdata fail so I had to unplug the phone and try again. Now if I try and boot up the phone it says firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again. If I try and reflash it in odin I get this far now and it freezes...

Are you using the original Samsung USB cable?
Odin errors when trying to flash aboot.mbn file? If it does, the firmware may not be for the phone.
Boot into download to confirm model number.

yes original cable, it doesn't error it just freezes there. in Download mode it says this:
Odin Mode

I downloaded my firmware from sammobile.com and looked up the SGH-I337M and chose the one for Fido Canada as that is what I have
Maybe try different USB ports or USB cables?
Bell, Telus, and Rogers use the same forwards with slightly different customized applications.

I have tried different port and I don't have another cable, and does that mean I could download like a bell firmware and try that instead?
or is there a way that reinstalling cyanogenmod would fix it and somehow wipe my personal info? that's all I really need to do
Yes, you can try bell or Telus firmware but that should not make a difference.

I assume you are trying to flash the latest firmware and the phone is not encrypted.

Well, if Odin fails again, I suggest flashing twrp via Odin, boot into twrp, factory wipe, and flash a custom ROM to ensure the phone still functions.

If you successfully flashed stock rom, boot into recovery and perform a factory wipe and reboot. The first boot make take a while but the led should pulse blue as it is booting the rom.

I did a factory wipe and rebooted and it froze ive tried 3 or 4 times now it is upgrading 29/89 will post back if it works..
got it booted up and now its asking for set up, I appreciate your patience and help very much
Flash stock again but do not check anything except f.reset time, flash stock rom, when you see the word pass in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery and wait 5 seconds, replace battery, boot into recovery, factory wipe, reboot.
thanks ill do that if I have a problem, for now phone is up and running and ready for use
That's great news. I guess all you needed was a different USB cable. I find the s4 to be very picky about USB cables when using Odin.
