Need help URGENTLY! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

k well let's start by letting everyone know, I have searched EVERYWHERE! for a fix and i CANNOT find one. This is really fustrating me. I am a noob to these forums but i do have little knowledge when it comes to this kind of stuff.
I recently rooted my Samsung S4 GT-i9505 and i wanted to unroot it back to it's original state, In the process of unrooting i don't know what i have done wrong but i get stuck on a screen "Firmware upgrade encountered.. blah blah, NOW i have tried all means to try and fix this by using Odin WITH the original firmware from which i downloaded from the samsung drivers website. Everytime i try too flash it, It always FAILS. There is a type of firmware i can use "I9505XXUAMDE_I9505TELAMD8_I9505DVUAMD8_HOME.tar.m d5", But this particular one installs SU, Which i don't want, It also causes several features on my phone to stop working. Such a the clock and i can't even use my wifi.. I have tried several times, Over and over to try and fix it through Odin, But it will not budge, I can load the phone to download mode, But can't get past that. I am now stuck on the upgrade issue screen and i am literally stuck on things to do.. Any help will be appreciated as i am in desperate need to have my phone back too working order! I have tried Kies, Installing it uninstalling it, Disabling my firewall.. EVERYTHING.. I am trying to install the original firmware "I9505XXUBMG4_I9505XSABMG1_I9505DVUBMG1_HOME.tar.m d5" But Odin will not let me!!
Thankyou in advance to anyone that can help.

Hi,
Have you tried a firmware upgrade and initialisation with Samsung Kies?
Insert your phone model (GT-I9505)
Pull out your battery and you see on the battery holding place a S/N code, fill that in.
Reboot in Download Mode and follow the steps.
It takes about 30 - 60min. for the reset.
Hope i helped you.
EDIT: YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING ON YOUR PHONE.

When Samsung Kies fails, do you get a error message why it has stopped on 70%?

The error comes up with something like "Firmware upgrade failure" Can't remember off the top of my head.

You have new boot loader so you can't flash those older firmwares. If you download the MJ5 firmware from Sammobile it will flash with Odin and you'll be good to go

You can't have custom recovery on our phone past MDL. Using goomanager set your knox flag, and you can't change that back as of yet. You also can't ODIN back to any previous version. You need to read more before trying anything else because all this information is around here. You have to follow the MJ6-MJ9 instructions to recover that has been linked many times in help threads and others.
I am sure I am not the only one that had this issue but I am on this firmware but could not get motochopper to work. finally ran SafeRoot in Admin mode and it worked. So stoked now. Cant wait to flash Gummy ROM!

Motochopper has been confirmed not working on any firmware past MDL. You can't run Gummy. The loki exploit to let us run custom kernels was patched. Do more reading before you brick again, and check out the General section for a nice list of what you can do on MK2/with Safestrap.
Thanks. That's what I have been doing. I am just tired of touchwiz. I like the raw android better, like my Nexus 10.

If you want something that looks more like AOSP (raw android) then you can flash version 3.6 of Foxhound ROM from the international S4. I'm running it on stock and it's very nice. I chose the essential option in the AROMA installer but the full install might work also.

Error Flashing Modem: Secure Check Fail: mdm

I'm trying to flash an updated modem on my i337M which is running a custom DANDVH-GE-4.4.2-01162014-INTNL-STOCK.ZIP which is a Google Play work alike. I am trying to change the modem because it keeps droping the data connection and will only stay stable in 2G mode. Right now its modem is on AMDJ. I've tried to flash both the XXUEMKF, XXUFNA1, modems but I keep getting the following error:
Code:
<ID:0/003> Added!!
<ID:0/003> Odin v.3 engine (ID:3)..

I'm adding the modem.bin to the CP portion of Odin 3.09. I've tried doing this on all my USB ports using two new cables (all w/ the updated samsung drivers). I am using Win 8.1. All the same results. My phone says:
Code:
Odin Mode
Product name: SGH-I337M
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official
CSB-OEM_CONFIG_LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enable
Then when I start flashing the following to messages appear right under the write protection message:
Code:
Start [224, 1440]
Secure Check Fail: mdm
After doing this I have to restart the phone for odin to pick it up again. It boots fine normally, and the original AMDJ modem still shows.
What's going on with this? I've looked in our forums but I can't find anything. I have TWRP installed, and I am rooted.

Hey there, I'm trying to update my I337M's modem as well (I have a post in this forum) so I'm in the same boat as you. From the looks of it, it seems like you're not using the correct modem firmware. If you'd want to update I believe it's something like UMUEMK6 for our phones, I've tried looking around and I can't find it anywhere. Hopefully that offers some direction but I'm waiting to see as well since I'm having the same problem with Google ROMs as well (The data signal never works).
Hello once again,
After a bit of work, I managed to update the modem on my phone to MUMUEMK6 (which is the newest baseband version for the I337M). Since flashing the modem firmware, I've re-installed Danvdh-GE-4.4.2-01232014b.zip and I haven't had a problem since, works without a hitch. What you need is this file which I've RARd up for you :
(Sorry, I have to obfuscate the URL since I'm a new user on these forums, just replace *dot* with a dot)
rtigue *dot* ca/files/SGH-I337M_MK6 *dot* rar
Once you've downloaded the file, simply just boot your phone in ODIN mode, open up ODIN, add the 'modem.bin' to the Phone section in ODIN and click Start. Wait a few moments and after that you should be good to go.
Let me know if anything comes up
For some reason, yours is the only version of the mk6 modem file that worked for my i337m after I was on 4.3 GE and went to old MDJ modem to try sim unlock. Which didn't work, sigh... Thanks!

Bootloader and modem are not tied together..... MK6 is the latest modem and works with 4.4.2 roms (for I337M), once the actual 4.4.2 update drops for i337m we will be able to update to that modem.
Thanks for replying Gage_Hero.
So I'm then assuming that it's NOT a good idea to flash the mk6 modem.bin on my current rom?

First you need to decide if you want to sim unlock the phone, still possible on mvluamg1, not possible on MK6. I would make sure you have a copy of modem.bin for mvluamg1 first, just incase. Then flash the MK6, I run MK6 on 4.4.2 GErom since we don't have a kitkat modem for i337m yet... once there is I will be updating.....
PS if you can find files that have md5 checksum, that is always good because then you can check the file to make sure it is complete. I had that issue flashing the MK6 modem, first file I downloaded failed in Odin, plus it had no md5 for me to check. Second one I donwloaded had the md5, which I checked and it flashed perfectly....

The phone is an international GT-I9505. It was previously running 4.2.2.
The software I have chosen to upgrade is the same software I have successfully used to upgrade my other GT-I9505.
I have used the PIT File in order to get access to the recovery mode.
I have tried two different frimware, both downloaded from samfirmware.com.
The phone gets stuck @ system.img.ext4.
I have done this many times before, but this has never happened.
Please tell me exactly what details you need so I can offer you the information in order to help me figure out this mess, it's driving me crazy ....

If I don't use my laptop's USB 2.0 port, it won't even start the flashing.
To make this easier: I have read most of the basic stuff around the forum (ports, different firmware, wipes, flash pit).

i9500 no recovery partition, and unable to restore stock using odin

Hello.
I got a new Galaxy S4 (I9500) this October, and decided I would go ahead and install custom recovery on it. Me thinking I can get anything to work did not heed the warnings that this model does not support it go ahead and try anyway. Long story short, I no longer have a functioning recovery partition.
I have tried to follow several guides, most of which tell me the same thing:
Get Samsung drivers (not Kies)
Download Odin (one version or another)
Get the I9500 Firmware and install using Odin.
My phone is (from the sticker below the battery):
MODEL:GT-I9500
FCC ID: A3LGTI9500
SSN:-I9500GSMH
It is factory unlocked.
The text displayed in Odin Mode:

SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
KNOX KERNEL LOCK: 0x0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x0
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE: enabled
I have tried flashing both 4.4.2 (as it was delivered with) and 5.0.1, but I get the same error:
<ID:0/005> Odin engine v(ID:3.1100)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..

You don't have an i9500. Whoever told you that was lying. You have an SGH-I337 which is a completely different model. You got an AT&T model. You are trying to flash the wrong firmware.
Here is the section for your device.

Bottomline you got a ****ty device with a locked bootloader. You can forget about custom recoverys and custom roms.

Model number in settings say GT-I9500, and I can use my Norwegian GSMH SIM card with it, which I would not have been able to on a AT&T phone. Anyway, at this point I don't care about custom recovery etc, I just want it working.
Edit: I also got Cyanogenmod working before I messed up the recovery

It's irrelevant what it says in the settings menu. It really easy to change it.
It's the part in download mode that matters.
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I337
Alright if you say the already had CM on it, then you still have an unlocked bootloader. Whatever you do, do not flash a stock AT&T rom or it will upgrade your bootloader.
Here is TWRP recovery.

Flash it using Odin. 99% of Odin errors can be resolved by using a different usb port and/or using a different usb cable.
You've a franken phone.

Majorly Messed Up Rooting, Can't Flash Stock Firmware

I'll try to give as many details as I can.
Recently I did a root, which worked perfectly fine. Didn't know what I was doing, so I looked around and downloaded Xposed and did all the steps to get it on my phone. After opening it, it asked to download additional firmware or updates or something. I agreed, and the system rebooted once it downloaded what it needed to. Then, when it rebooted, it told me that it was unable to authorize or verify, or something. Essentially it wouldn't let me back into my phone and I didn't know what to do. So I downloaded the most current firmware for my model from Updato, but it didn't seem to work. I tried doing just the AP, then doing the BL-AP-CP-CSC, tried both Home and non home versions as well. After that, if I'm not in download mode, it tries to update software, and then runs a quick string, and then repeats, which I assume is just a textbook case of boot looping.

Can't post links, but on Updato, under SM-G935U, the first one with 8.0.0 is the one I used.
I tried some suggestions I found looking around, like changing out the USB cable, but ultimately it didn't help and it was fine to use to flash the original root in the first place, and I have Samsung drivers installed.
I would really appreciate some insight. Appreciate it.
sounds like you took an OTA while rooted.
I think you're ODIN flash might be failing because you're OTA might've updated your bootloader.
You need to determine the build you're on from recovery if you can get there and make sure you're flashing a build with the same (preferably) or greater (bad if you want to go back) bootloader. The 5th digit from the right is the bootloader version.
First of all - are you sure the phone got rooted in the 1st place? As your KNOX seems still 0x0 you probably did not modify too much...
Anyway - something to try is to flash the stock with additional PIT file included which rewrites the partitioning from scratch. Try that one
