can i flash a kitkat modem on an older android ? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im talking about the modem that comes with the stock KITKAT
XXUEMJ9 if that matters on my miui v5 android 4.2.2
would that work , i hate to screw up my IMEI or something if it wont work.

???

I'm not totally sure that it will work but I have used my KitKat modem on a 4.3. No problems.
cheers ~

I flashed my S4 to 4.4 Kitkat, Everything is OK.
Then, I flashed back to 4.3 and i was shocked, KNOX 0x0 and works fine ALL functions. WiFi Audio and etc.

No WiFi on any TW kitkat rom

I've tried a lot of kitkat TW roms and with all I have the same problem... no wifi. wifi just doesn't switch on. I installed the official I9505XXUFNB8 stock rom today, and nothing... same issue...however, wifi works fine on GPE rom.
I'm rocking the i9505 and I have updated the baseband to the latest I9505XXUFNB8 modem. I tried all other TW kitkat modems... same issue.
Issue still exists...
Any suggestions regarding this is greatly appreciated.
I just want to go back to stock...

[Q] GT i9505 GE Kernel?

Is there any Kernel for GE ROMs for i9505 that has fully functional Wi-fi and supports FolderMount's obb mounting?
If not is there any TW 4.4 ROM that works on old 4.2.2 bootloader and supports both of these properly ^
Before anyone says anything this isn't modem related at all.
Let me guess. There is no such thing? Welp guess I'm reverting to 4.2.2 TW Stock. At least everything worked.

Hi ,
Once you upgrade your bootloader is not possible to go back to 4..2.2 (or 4.3)
You upgrade your bootloader if:
Flash a stock rom 4.3 and higher
you do not upgrade your bootloader if:
root , install custom recovery and flash a custom rom , there are a few good rom based in samsung stock 4.3 and 4.4.2 you can try them see if you like them and if you don't you can always flash stock 4.2.2 and be as you were
Ok, so essensialy i can't downgrade the bootloader to 4.2.
but a official 4.2.2 firmware (without knox) will work on a 4.4 bootloader ??? (again i don't care about knox working or not)

It has been done to 4.3 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744061
they have flashed a 4.3 ROM without bootloader over a 4.4 ROM so the result is a 4.3 rom with a 4.4 bootloader

HI ,
Mate if you flash with Odin or OTA (kies) you will change the bootloader , ok? so once you have a 4..4 bootloader installed there is no way to install back a 4,2,2 stock ( official ) firmware , 4.4.2 official firmware includes 4.4.2 bootloader and flashing an older bootloader than the one you have is not possible (yet)
your options are:
4.2.2 bootloader
stay there do nothing
Upgrade to official 4.4 and not be able to downgrade to 4.2.2 official
root , install CWM and install any custom rom you want ( 4.2.2 , 4.3 or 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 ) and if you do not like any of them go back to official 4.2.2
Once you upgrade to official 4.4.2 there is no way to go back to official 4.2.2 , the only way to go back to 4.2.2 would be with a custom rom

If i understood right, you are saying that can be done if i flash a custom rom as intermediate step between official 4.4 and official 4.2 ??

No . I did not say that
Once you are in an official 4.4.2 firmware , the only way to use a 4.2.2 rom would be by flashing an un official 4.2.2 custom rom

[Q] from Android 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 Directly?

heya Guys,
i have an S4 and i kinda messed up the moden, because wifi istnt working (I tried to flash the mf9 update, didnt realize i was on 4.2.2 und flashed back to MDC which is now working, exept wifi)
i tried to update via Kies but it doesnt connect to my S4. it says connecting for like an hour.
i am donwloading the 4.4.2 STOCK Full firmware (Its bout 1.5 GB Big and i dont think its an OTA-Update)
my questin is, can i flash the 4.4.2 Firmware just over the 4.2.2 with odin?
or must i get the 4.3 update to get it running?
and i read something about flashing back the Stock Recovery and unroot the Device before updating is this true?
Thanks in Advance Bros, hope you can help me.
Just flash.

will i lose any data?
and what about the stock recovery?
thanks for your help
My Recommendation for you in this case
Go to 4.3.
4.4.2 is Very Buggy and will mess up your phone!

Can you downgrade directly from marshmallow to kit Kat?

I'm on Phoenix rom on 6.0. 1 and I'm sick of the weird path name it gives the external SD card. It messes with link2sd and my Manga Reader. I was wondering if I can simply flash a kit Kat rom on miui without ruining anything...
no
So I'll have to go back to stock first via Odin?

you cant do that either. Once you progress past 5.0, youre stuck
I directly downgraded to 4.4 with my G900W8. However, you need to be careful with which version you are going to flash. For example, when I flashed any other 4.4 firmware than NCG (Which is the first version of 4.4 released for G900W8), I faced bootloop.

there is a physical fuse that gets tripped in the S5 once you go past 5.0 that is there to no allow you to go back. Not sure if you were on a 4.4 bootloader that allowed you to do this or what, but trying to flash back to 4.4 after being on a 5.0 baseband is very ill advised
I don't think you can down grade to kit kat, but you can go from marshmallow to lollipop. I just did it last weekend. Check this...https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
I hope it helps you.
Actually i can downgrade anytime from MM to LP or LP to KK
but i didnt tried MM to KK yet.... tried it many times it works.. unlocked G900F

then you dont have a MM bootloader. I just re-read some posts that confirm that the phone locks to 5.0 once you get that bootloader. Its not possible to go back, and it doesnt matter if you have the G900F or not

Then if there is a physical fuse, why was I able to downgrade from MM to KK? One difference when I downgraded from MM to KK NCG was that "Powered by Android" logo was changed to old style. I think NCG build of KitKat changed bootloader from MM one to KK one. Baseband wise, I also flashed KK baseband and it worked very well. It might be different on G900F but with my G900W8 I could go back to KK.

not sure, but ive had my G900P for 2 years 10 months and have been constantly on XDA since my OG evo back in the day (the one with the kickstand) and everything ive ever read saya that once you go past 5.0, you cant go back. Not sure what you have going on there, but there are tons of posts going back several years stating exactly this
Of course you can downgrade to kk.
Just download the kk firmwafe. Pull out battery for 5 sec. Then flash trough odin. Did it mant times and no problem with that.
i did that on my galaxy s5 and it works
