If your phone is not rooted at all, then I suggest you to use this toolkit.

Have you tampered with your stock rom, eg. deleted or changed some of the original apps? Im just guessing there is a reason you got a custom recovery in the first place?

Unrooting device

Hi guys.
I need to send google my device and i rooted it last day. I used the toolkit that can be found on the site, option 8.
If i do a factory reset, would that be enought?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
No, but the best way to do it is flash the stock images from Google, will be 100% stock.
Don't forget to lock bootloader as well!
Sent from my Jelly Nexus 4
Flash a factory Google image, then make sure your recovery is NOT CWM or TWRP and then re lock the bootloader. Then you should be good to go!

Do a search in the thread for 'r171' and you should find it. If it's provided in .img , you can use fastboot to flash it. (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
Another method is to take any other Franco.kernel zip and replace the boot.img inside using an archive manager on your pc. Then just flash the modified zip in recovery.

Okay, thanks! Any reason why we need to use fastboot rather than TWRP or something?

No. It's just a different method in flashing a kernel.

If its an img file you need to use fastboot. Twrp will only flash files that are packaged in the correct manner.

Which rom? I would post in the thread for that rom. Most of the time when I get a failure it is a bad download. Be sure to check the md5 checksum of the download.

Actually I downloaded 4.4 from : http://www.droid-life.com/2013/11/1...krt16o-official-update-for-nexus-7-2012-wifi/
I just wanted to remove the ROM!

Nexus 4 Root?

Hi, I have a nexus 4 which has CWM installed however it doesn't seem to be rooted? I can boot into recovery and backup etc but how can I gain root access? I don't want to factory reset the phone. Is this possible?
Cheers!
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Flash this in recovery. SuperSU
p/s: cwm always have issues with supersu. So, use latest cwm 6.0.4.5. It's better if you use latest twrp though.
Thanks mate worked fine!
