Hi, today i updated my g2 to kitkat and whenever i plug in my headphones, every single sound (listening to music, playing games, etc.) the sound crackles. My headphones are fine. Does somebody kniw how to fix this? Thank you
Have you tried using other headphones. Or try rebooting your phone again?
yep, I'm using AKG, then switched to Sennheiser and the noise is still there. I rebooted my phone, didn't help, then I factory reset it, still the same. It happend right after I updated to kitkat. Not sureif its a bug or a HW issue:X
Since I updated my phone from D802-SEA-10F to Vodafone 20A i got same problem. When there's any audio playing over headphones I hear crackling and electronic noise in left earpiece. I've tried on few headphones - hifiman re262, akg k712 and stock lg. All headphones had same sound problems. I guess it's time to flash back the 4.2.2 and wait for SEA-20A...
me too.
reboot, factory reset, use another audio player, the crackles sound still there.
Hi,
Two french sfr users have the same issue: http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/184815-grésillement-écouteurscasque/
they have taken sfr 4.4.2 ota. Even with a reset it persists.
Having the same issue

This issue might be connected to the headphone amplifier software (maybe .taiko file). I tried connecting headphones over USB cable and there was no sight of this weird electronic noise.
I have also noticed crackling, but only for a second right before the audio turns on.
Before kitkat update I could hear very silent electronic noise in left earpiece too. But it was barely heard when there was no music playing ( and it was with hifiman re-262 which isn't very sensitive to that...). Right now this noise is loud (at same level as the music) and there's static noise too.

Same issue here. My question to all having this issue is how did you do the kitkat update? I updated OTA. Anyone here with this issue who not used OTA?

I updated with the LG software not the OTA. Rolled back to 4.2.2 and everything is back to normal.
Same problem with KITKAT
I have updated to KITKAT on my system (manual update) with 80220A KDZ file and was facing the problem of hiss in my left earpiece. I rolled back to 4.2.2 and it works fine... the update really sucks in terms of audio....
thanks for this thread and heads up. looks like it's not worth updating for this issue alone, i love my perfect audio on 4.2.2.
Hey guys, any update on this?
Im in a bad situation, updated to kitkat 4.4.2 vodafone OTA. The phone was brand new, it was the first thing I did.
The noise is also present in the left headphone, it makes listening to music unbearable.
It seems like I unfortunately can't downgrade?. So I'm stuck with this. Any way we can report the issue to LG?
Go to download mode and push your kdz file(4.2.2) in your phone and stay away from 4.4.2.

So is the only way to get rid of audio noise on 4.4 is downgrading?
Yep or wait 3-7 months until lg push the fix.

Updated to 4.4.2 today and got the same issue. Noise on left channel when idle and electric crackles when playing music.
I got an expensive high fidelity headset which plays these distortions really well... in other words: headset are useless for music on the G2 from now.
I must be really deaf as i can't hear this. There is always the option to force a downgrade to 4.2.2. But if it's a real issue then need to bombard LG with requests to fix it, ask for official statement on it. Get a timescale.

I have noticed that when using the supplied earphones I can hear static background noise when I scroll through menus and buttons while music is playing. This only happens when music is activated and I can hear a low annoying fuzzy static that gets louder the more I scroll for example.
I can barely hear it when I put on headphones but can with earphones, seems quite strange wonder if anyone else experiences the same thing?
No one? Just try it, turn the volume down while listening to music then go to home screen and scroll left constantly or right and the hissing noise will get louder.
Audio chip or whatever must be quite crappy.
Restarted phone and can't seem to hear it now. Strange.
I'm glad that by talking to your self you've managed to fix this problem.
I spoke to myself to soon! Its back and I suspect it has something to do with the wifi sharing. As I activated kies air, uploaded a song, listened to song and hissing is back! argh.

Try force stopping it? I've frozen most Samsung apps but even before then I had no problems at all with something like this tbh...although I don't use the stock music player.
I have annoying static background noise while using earphones, it can be better heard whilr using the phone when no music is playing.
This is a general issue or isolated cause?
I have this!!! I seem to get possibly some kind of audible distortion just before i play a song, and then when i pause the song and touch the screen it makes the weird static noise (and possibly when the song is playing as well, but its less identifiable). For me this noise only lasts for about 5 seconds after i have paused it and then stops. And yes, it also seems to be louder in earphones than headphones.
HAVE YOU FOUND A FIX? Firmware upgrades? Sent it back and got a replacement? what did you guys do? Let me know, thanks.
Could it be evp?

I installed the Backslash Kernel and THEN noticed this, rebooted and it went.
It came back a while after. I also unplugged the headphones with the music app running and the phone rebooted.
Re-flashed the CF-Root KG1 Kernel and it went away, not had any 'noise' or reboots since :/
I got a replacement from orange as this issue was too distracting. My replacement has just come, but exactly the same 'static noise while and after listening to music' issue is still here!!! Is this really what its like for everyone but people don't bother saying?

KERNAL VERSION: [email protected] #2
On my last phone i tried flashing to generic KE7 AND KF3 (using odin). Both seemed to make the sound last for not as long after i pause the music, but did not solve the issue. Will rooting the phone, using different kernals and whatnot fix this? Could it be a dodgy batch of phones from orange? (I have no knowledge of what rooting and kernals actually is, let alone what ones i should use)
I have also experienced this. It seems the screen is the problem since the noise is gone when the screen is off.
What headphones are you using?
I have used the supplied headphones, but i have also tried other headphones as well. All seem to give the same sound but possibly at varying levels of volume. Do you still have the problem?
I use the Sennheiser CX300 II and I do not experience it any longer.
It depends on the impedance of the headphones. If the impedance is 16 ohm I cannot hear it but on 12 ohm headphones it is pretty obvious (but they are able to play louder).
I have not tried the supplied ones myself because they ALWAYS sound awful but if you had a specific name for a proper headphone you have tried, you can easily find their impedance on the internet.
Hmm well i have tried my creative EP-630 headphones which have impedance of 16 Ohm and i can still hear the noise. I have used many terrible headphones on terrible 'mp3 players' over the years and i have never experienced this, so i don't see why i should now go out and buy some new headphones. Although if you are really saying that the Sennheiser CX300 II headphones completely cured your problem then it might be worth it? Was your problem exactly the same as the one i described? Cheers.
It's obviously a problem of the audio amp picking up electrical noise from the other components of the device. I'm skeptic that anything can be done to solve it.
I also can hear some faint background noise on mine when scroling the screen and using memory, but anyway it's very faint... not enough to bother even in quiet environments.
I have to agree, it's bad shielding in the design. Something we will all have to live with.
I notice it most between songs when listening to music. Each songs starts with a little blast of noise.
Hmmm well i've heard that with certain kernals it is not there. Also for me, simply changing to different stock firmware reduced the time that the static sound lasts after i pause a song, so surely that can mean it can be stopped altogether. Im not prepared to give up on this (yet).
I would be grateful for other information and reports from other people about this issue, even simply if you don't have it. :/
...anyone?

i have this problem too...
but i have found that it does with some earphones... i guess its a matter of shielding, as posted before.
I received my device a couple of days back and today I encountered a very weird problem. Sometime phones uses the front speaker and sometimes it uses the rear loud speaker. I got a call, received it and turned the speaker on..the other person on call couldn't hear my voice but I could listen to hers. The a minute later the phone was playing everything from the front speaker rather the than rear. Be it audio songs, videos song anything. When I was pressing the volume rocker, there was no sound coming from any speaker. Finally, I restarted the phone and it's back to normal. What went wrong, any idea? As this might happen again.:s
My phone's condition: Totally stock. No root. No ROM. No kernel change. All stock. Running 4.2.2
Guess I was suppose to post it in Q&A forum. If so, mods, please move it there.

The EAR PIECE that 'can' be called a Front Speaker (as inside the earpiece is a speaker), which goes without saying.

Anyhow, back to the topic.. Has anyone encountered this issue on his/her device?
Seeing responses like the above quoted comment, I might add my phone rattles, but I don't find it an issue. As long as such things aren't affecting the usability of the device, I am completely OK with it. But 2 problems have really bothered me. One is well known, the camera can't focus at all and second is the subject of this thread. So, I really want to inquire if anyone came across this earpiece/speaker problem that I faced and how it was fixed, permanently.
RMA that sucker. Hardware fault.

I had a similar problem.
I would play music from the back but eventually it would play music in the earpiece. I forgot what I did prior, but it had to do with using a modified google play version.
I just re-flashed the rom and it worked fine after that.

Alright, thanks for the response.
I am playing music from the built in Music Player. And I am totally stock. Although it didn't happen again but I was hoping if I could know what to do (besides restarting) when it happens the next time.
Hi guys,
just spent an hour configuring my new S4 after (saying goodbye to my Xperia Arc S).
Was excited at first, but now I notice that whenever the S4 has to play sound (notification, ringtone, music) a get a very audible "click" followed by a hissing sound on the background. After the sound has played I get another 2 seconds off hissing, followed by another "click". After that it's silent again. (so whenever it switches the speaker on/off).
Is this a know (software?) issue or am I unlucky and should call warranty on it ?
Thanks !
If it was me I would return for a replacement. Probably bad hardware. I have an VZW S4 and my speaker is fine.

no improvements yet, will contact the repair center tomorrow.
hope they can swap it and not keep it for weeks or give me a refurbished model.

You can try to update to the latest official firmware and see if it's the same. If yes, then you should ask for a replacement.
by any chance is it making the same noise as this?
this is what mine sounds like

No it's another noise. Vibrate works fine, sound itself is also ok. It's just that whenever the speaker is activated I hear this click and background noise.

My brothers i9500 loudspeaker stopped working after owning it 2 months.Since i9500 is not officially sold in Romania,I ordered a replacement part from eBay.My question is if I replace the loudspeaker will it work as it did before? I upgraded and downgraded the FW and the sound came back for 10 minutes, but then it made strange noise and it stopped working. Also because of this issue it's not detecting the earphones eather (BTW they working when the sound came back for 10 mins).
My question is :
1.Does the loudspeaker has any connection to the earphone functionality as it's not working ATM?
2.Replacing the loudspeaker will resolve this issue? Or it's a serious HW failure.
P.S.I should mention that everything else works just fine ex.camera, vibration, ear speaker, battery holds charge. It's just it doesn't output any sound at all.
Thanks in advance for your answer.Waiting for a reply.
When I bought the device 2,5 months ago I had no issues at all, but a few weeks ago I started noticing a lot of white noise when listening to music through the headphone jack on my Note 4, especially the right headphone. I have the feeling the issue started when I updated to NK4, but I'm not sure, so I don't want to downgrade just yet, since I have a lot of app data and it's quite a hassle to make a back up.
I was wondering if anyone else experiences this issue. I know it's present on some Nexus 5 and LG G3 devices as well. I have taken it to the Samsung store and they tried with their headphones as well and the issue persists. It gets even worse when I'm in the car using an aux cable to my car radio. Every time I accelerate or decelerate I hear a howling noise. Also when I'm just using the phone, not listening to any audio at all, all system sounds and notification sounds turned off, I often hear a clicking sound. At first I thought the back cover was a bit loose and made this sound, but it's actually coming from the speaker.
The issue is present in several apps: Youtube, TuneIn, MP3 Player and Google Play Music.
Is there anyone else who experiences such issues, because I'd rather not bring my phone in for repairs, as here in Holland that might take 2 to 6 weeks? And does anyone know if it is a software or a hardware issue, if anyone has found that downgrading might be a fix, I'd be happy to try that.
Hi, I am totally new to LG, I got my G2 recently and updated to latest firmware 4.4.2 which was working fine till few days back I noticed that speakers are totally silent and I can only listen to any sound (Youtubers, SoundCloud, Viber or any app that involves sound) through headphones only
Without headphones, phone is totally muted.
P.S. Quite mode is not active.
Please help if anyone has found any solution to similar problem.
Thank you,
Do a factory reset and see if it fixes the problem.
