I have a notification "software update, firmware downloaded". Can anyone tell me how I find out what the update number is? There have been some bad updates recently and I want to find out what it is before installing it.
Soccer 40.54mb, improved stability, it claims.

First download this App https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo
To know which version and region you are running. Then following the region and version number look for it in Sammobile.com.

But I want to know the version that had been downloaded, not the version already installed...
OK, I see what youth mean. Thanks
If you were rooted, you could probably try to find the file itself with root explorer and then search internet to match your file name with info on what inside, but if you got OTA download you're not and I'm not sure if that file is visible without super user, so you could also go to Samsung side or use Kiev and see what updates are available for your particular phone and compare that to what's on your phone already. I haven't done any OTA updates for a while now, does it show file name right before or during download? Frankly I hate Android, it is such nontransparent OS, it's not easy to even see what files are on your phone.

This firmware was just posted on the Sammobile website. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it a 4.0.4 update to the LRG firmware or 4.1?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=5602
I think is an 4.0.4 update.
Downloading, will test it right away. Thanks

Just got the update via OTA in Germany (unbranded, german note)
But I can't install it because my battery is dead
Can anyone test if they removed the unified search, like they did on the sgs3 and gn?

How can I test this? Just installed the update and actually all that I can see which has changed is some german commercial applications (shops/hotels/food delivery) - uninstalling them all now

Added the "Quick Search Bar" to my homescreen. When I press it nothing happens (well, Google text turns green on-finger-down). No keyboard shows up. The voice input directs me to google.com (when saying facebook)
We are talking about the google search widget, right?
You can also long-press the settings key.
Tested myself :banghead:
Nothing changed there

XXLRK is still 4.0.4
Downloaded XXLRK today on my german gt-n7000 in India. Still 404
The changelog for XXLRK
The large 24MB OTA update does not change the version of Android, but the Galaxy brings touch to firmware version XXLRK and the performance of the Galaxy increases note. The search will remain intact! But there is a slightly modified keyboard with large distances and significantly improved writing comfort
Will this OTA kill root access? or should I rather use Mobile Odin?

I did the OTA update altho i did see it in the samfirmware website as well .. i wonder, could this update also fix the brickbug samsung said would fix ? Altho i suspect they would make a big fuss about the update if this was the one which fixed the brickbug, eh ?
I have it. Its 4.0.4
However i want to root with cwm is there a cf kernel for xxlrk?
Anyone noticed in XXLRK, power_profile.xml is mentioning battery capacity as 1650 instead of actual value 2500? decompiled framework-res.apk and under res>xml you can find this file. I don't know if battery usage calculation can give bad result because of this? or is it ok? Anyone with advanced knowledge pls.
Asian 4.04 Update
Most of Asia received the update to 4.04 in the last few days. I am in Thailand but there was no OTA update but the update was on Kies. Since updating I am still wondering what it was supposed to do as I cannot see any obvious changes except that I have lost root. I thought it might be an update to keep us safe from the brickbug but who knows? Anyone able to shed any light on what the update is for?

I use the Thai stock ICS 4.0.4 but I don't think there are differences, but this is only a regional 4.0.4 update.
And I didn't see any post here describing something new in these end-of-july-stock-ROMs.
I kept root the long way (coming from GB rooted, and installing the new version with Mobile Odin Pro, adding Notecore 13 later).
When you switch to a safe kernel you do not have to hope for an official safe update anymore.
Just got the update. Don't know yet what's new.
Nothing visible so far, maybe some optimization and fix for the screen bug.
Only difference I can spot is that the network type (H/4G/LTE etc.) is now placed on the left of the reception bar instead of above it.

That didn't change for me though. I'm on E5803 Malaysian firmware. All I noticed was that the animations are faster and the apps are opening faster. That's it. Also no issues with auto brightness so far

No change to GUI whatsoever (CE version)
Tried Antutu benchmark after this update and score was 75601. Finally a decent score without putting the phone into freezer

I just upgraded too.
The default SMS app now has stickers(You actually have to download Sketch from the play store)
and there are some new quick share options at the popup menu that appears when you share a file.
Also, it says something about a revamped camera ui but I see nothing different....

Actually I had two updates. One in the morning - and FM radio worked.
Then another in the afternoon and FM radio broke again ...
Sorry for a bad news ...
I think with .185 update low light photos just got even worse in SA, instead of bluish tint now i got purple ones :S
I hope this fixes the wired and bluetooth audio stuttering.
In Lollipop you couldn't get system software updates OTA if you were rooted, but I just got a notification that this version is ready to install... I'm running rooted 32.1.A.1.163. Will I lose root if I install? Will it install at all? Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

If your bootloader is unlocked, then the only way to update, is to flash it via flashtool. OTA or PC Companion won't work

I tried updating with root and it failed. I also want to know if root is possible with thia update.
I'm using a rooted phone myself - while I use the DRM key emulation I know OTA updates will most likely fail so I will perform the upgrade manually.
Would anyone please check the Android security patch level?
If you go to System Settings - About phone. One entry says "Android security patch level" which is February 1st on the .163 version. Did this one increase maybe?
If so, it would be worth the hassle with Flashtool and rerooting and such for me to upgrade.
I have TM Note 4. They launched the Marsh mellow update couple of days back. When I tried to check through software update it told me "Server has reached it daily download limit check later or use smart switch etc." But now when I check it, it says "device is up to date"
I cant use my laptop as my wifi switch on it is broken so cant use net. Want to do the OTA update but then this new message is annoying.
Also can I download the official file from somewhere and then use it to update my phone through USB connection. If so where to find it and how to do it. I can ask a friend to download the file for me. Please Help.
They may have temporarily pulled the update, just try again later. There is a way to use the downloaded firmware and Odin over USB, but if you were ready for that you'd already know where to look for the files.

Sorry sir but my phone is not rooted. I would like to get their original up date.
Thanks a lot guys. I got through OTA. ?
Hi,Guys Please Help Me!i have a p8 lite model ALE-L21C02B130!,how can i get marshmallow on the device(i am from south Africa)and will like the official version any help will be appreciated....
The first place to check is MENU - SETTINGS - ABOUT PHONE - SOFTWARE VERSION - CHECK FOR UPDATES. If the OTA notification doesn't show up then it's possible your carrier hasn't release the OTA yet. Also, if the update notification doesn't show up, you will need a PC or laptop to download the official firmware and perform the installation.
I also just went back and looked at the P8 Lite General Forum and there is a thread that appears to be dedicated to updating your P8 Lite from Lollipop to Marshmallow. That is where I would start.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
i have checked there is no update available what with you recommend me doing waiting for carrier or flash it this way the device is (brand new)
If it were me and I wanted the official 6.0.1 MM I would flash it myself which is what I always do anyways. It doesn't matter to me if my device is brand new or not. I would read through the P8 Lite General Forum. There are several threads about updating to the latest 6.0.1 MM firmware and the region they are for. Where are you located? That will help you in finding the correct firmware to download and install.

I found a tutorial for upgrading manually. You have to download the update from the huawei server and put it on a sd card. In the settings you can choose "Local update" (i don't know the exact expression, im from germany). You can try it with HiCare also, but i don't know if this works...
For bad english: Sorry, i've learned english only in school, reading and in games

Hello, I have been talking with this guy from atnt s7 forum. This is what he said...
- Omar04
-Can't remember where they are but I remember I did this> dial *#8736364# a Screen will come up Software update there I tap on check for update then tap on Results if any you will see a long URL with many numbers on it use that URL to get the bin file containing the OTA link and use the ota link on a download manager for it to download if you don't have that version yet. But for the newest ota you need to decipher by yourself Q=2017 A=January and numbers after month =day of build if you lucky and find the correct build it will show up to download that's how we AT&T users find the Nougat ahead of time.
- If a long link didn't show then you need someone else with older build to do same for link to show on results then every one will be able to use that link and search for OTA hidden in servers.
If anyone is still on the old firmware , there is hope that through using this way, we can get an early final nougat!!!
Unable to process the request.
You have to have an older version of android MM.
That just brings it to the check for update menus with 2 more options. Tmobile is still adding their bloat and testing it before release according to their update status for s7

Deadlysin9 posted this...
That could be it. I got the server URL for the guy that did the S7 one by just going into /data/data/com.ws.dm (the data folder for our system update app, you'll have to find the package name of yours) and looking through all the files. From there it seems he looked at the desc.bin that it downloads to get the URL of the actual update package, but I don't know what he did after that to find the other files.
I believe this is an alternative possibility of getting the same result. Also it IS possible. Atnt got their software early by using this exact same method.
