I9500 E: Failed To Mount /efs (invalid Argument) stuck Logo Samsung - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm new to this subject and the truth of z3x 've started on the wrong foot .
buy my z3x to begin working with i9500 which turn on and I went out the legend only emergency calls, my problem was from the beginning , I have installed the drivers appear correctly on windows 7 x64, when I start the tool samsung 17 I bottom of the window says , cars found (OK ) and then tells me NOT FOUND BOX but starts correctly, however, if I open the shell on the i9500 model only reached reading card found and then a number XX -XX # # # # # # -XX or something like that does not matter because I assume is the activation of the box , well I press :
1 - I configured the phone in debug and everything.
I tried using the two - S7070 UART cable connect the phone to the box and I never EVER answer by S7070 UART uart cable or any other cable, 3300k clarify that I have not since I never came in my kit installation .
3 - Connect the original cable that came with my phone direct from my notebook and lo and behold, there I recognized the phone .
4 - unlock i tried to make no changes .
5 - try to restore the network, but no change either .
the phone had version 4.3 and up and did a downgrade to version 4.2.2 with the risks that could run . to the top after making flash 4.2.2 reboot when the phone was hung on the samsung logo , but I did a cache wipe and then a wipe and factory reset the phone when everything worked correctly.
6 - I connected the phone again and I 'll take my imei NULL to try to restore a previous efs that I had saved , well if it was not the version 4.2.2 or version 4.3, do not remember.
7 - with the phone connected by direct mini usb from my notebook always pressed write efs and instead of looking at my previously saved with root explorer folder, what I did now was to search the backup files that had generated me the same z3x not know why I did this, but I selected the one that had the oldest date before I modify anything, so thought I would take the information from my imei from there, but I flatly wrong.
when the phone restart was permanently a bootloop on the logo samsung and never could get him out of there, I intnté do wipe again and nothing happened, I can enter download leisurely mode and also in cw vol up + menu + power on the notebook I listed as usb modem phone or something, but as I fail to operate any single uart cable usb mini me works, read the info when I search the phone always says PHONE NOT FOUND, not let me take any further action.
8 - now when I do a wipe I get the legend on the screen that says ...
e: failed to mount / efs (invalid argument) and stuck at the samsung logo.
no more to do or how to correct my problems to revive this phone mia agony.
could someone give me a very detailed step tutorial that can make step. do not forget that many newly started on this topic and please talk with us tomense unclear terms and cordial to answer very clearly some things that are very easy to units for us but maybe very difficult time.
please help with my UART since my box is useless without this work or am I wrong?
thank you very much.

There is no way of putting on the version : - SEK - I9500XXUBMG1 20130702160308.zip - I9500XXUBMG1_I9500OXEBME1_I9500XXUBMG1_HOME.tar.md5
and will again lower the version 4.3 to 4.2.2 to see if the version mentioned so loaded up with this file ( Clar0 ) I9500UBUAMDK_I9500UWAAMDK_CTI.zip - I9500UBUAMDK_I9500UWAAMDK_I9500UBUAMDK_HOME.tar.md5
but it says the same thing in red UNSUPPORTED VERSION . when I try to charge you the version of the post : w*w.clangsm.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=324565
not to do now , someone hand me that ? if you do a wipe after the newly installed version of course I still dicendo E: Failed To Mount / efs (invalid Argument ) Locked In And Meet The Samsung Logo .
I forgot to clarify that after the error obviously odin and text on cell unsuppoerted version , if I disconnect and try to turn me obviously goes the legend on screen with a warning symbol (Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again)

[Q] A500 - "Android logo" loop

hello everyone ,
my Iconia A500 , just broke down or i don't know exactly what's wrong with it ,
it's rooted stock -ICS-4.0.3 , 6 months ago
and the last thing happened in the past 3-4 days :
1- "Air Playit" was downloaded 2 days ago
2- reading news /Facebook/messenger , occasional games
3- opera browsing
that's it , no physical impacts , nothing abnormal else
now for no reasons , the tablet shut down ..
and stuck on "Android" logo ...and never past that for an hour , then it shut down
any help please with "preserving data"?
I would connect Micro USB cable to PC and device...
and see if PC recognizes device...then if you can see it in ADB or APX mode..
at least you can modify stuff with PC recognizing it..
Maybe take out External SDCARD and click it back in.
try to boot into recovery mode
mess with it when power cord is plugged into it and NOT plugged in
*** IF you are ever are able to enter into a RECOVERY mode, I'd wipe Cache + Dalvik (so it can refresh files and apps) (it doesn't erase anything, settings, apps, etc)
hope you have your CPUID #
Dought this is very helpful, APX mode saved me after my tablet was bricked for 2 months

(3) From USBDeview must have previously used the Tab under HC with the PC you're using
only 11 digits were founds under the exact given criteria
(4) From a uid.txt in any Honeycomb-cwm backup in external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/"your_HC_backup" folder

Well I wish that I could help in a way that would let you preserve your data. Hate saying it. It is probably lost. The 'save my data' prerequisite is probably why there are no answers to this point. I won't say that it is impossible, just highly unlikely. Sorry.
So if you get tired of waiting for an answer for that and just want to get your tab up and running I would humbly suggest that you consider these...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624645
Tons of great information and the support from the OP is legendary.
I think that you will end up at this page...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978
This one is not an easy read or an easy process for those who lack Linux experience. But with a little patience you should be fine. Just be sure to read through the first few pages. There's a decent amount of information in that single thread, and not all of it is in the first post.
Once you get through those two threads you will, without a doubt, be able to continue with restoring your tablets software to something useable.
Good Luck.

I'm in the same boat. The same thing happened to me two days ago. Stock ICS + root are the only mods I've done.
I'm going to finish reading through to see if anything worked. :/
---------- Post added at 03:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:42 PM ----------
In my case, I'm not so interested in preserving any data as I had already relocated everything important to GDrive and my external SD card.
First attempt, I tried booting into recovery which, I'm guessing, tried to grab an update.zip from the SD card that wasn't there. When nothing was found it proceeded to a green android boot screen and then quickly changed to a dead android with a hazard symbol on it. The boot bar below the logo crept slowly for several minutes and then stopped and hung for about an hour until I gave up.
Any quick ways to get me back to a stock blank rom?
ok , i think i'll let go for the data ... although it's VERY annoying -_- considering i did never lose any data since 1990 with dos / windows / symbian , i'm very disappointed with my first experience with Android and Acer ..
anyway here is my thoughts ,
1- first i tried All possible ways for extracting the CPUID in many forums .... except the "Ubentu" one ...which i'll give it a try soon after my surgery exam
2- another VERY annoying point honestly , it's the "inconsistency" ....
i mean , when i pressed the reset , it stopped showing me the "android-logo" , then after couple of resets , it started to show it AGAIN !!
then , doing hard reset (+vol + pwr + the or.lock) and confirmed erasing data and cache , the "android-logo" disappeared , and only ACER !!!
another , one normal reset , and it appeared again !!
ok ok ... let's forget this
i tried all 7 Stock ROMs ...
each SINGLE ROM , gave me at least 2-3 different responses !!
- the loading bar alone
- the robot with rotating thing , no loading bars
- the dead robot , no loading bar
- the robot with rotating crystal , with loading bar which get stuck at 25%-30%
- the dead robot , with loading bar which get stuck at around 20%
- Nothingness !! ( yes , it boot up from update.zip , then nothing happen)
*each trial , i gave it at least 20 min to progress up ... but with no use
anyway ,
3- i'll try again last time extracting CPUID , so i can install EUU ROMs .... but anyway ...
guys , does anyone know any relation between the S/N of the machine and the CPUID ?
just trying to think alittle bit differently , maybe , the S/N is 22 units long , so maybe there is a relation between them ?
4- if all failed , i think i'll have to wait till i get to dubai soon , because no service center in my country -_- !!
5- last resort , i'll use it as cutting table in my kitchen -_-
please guys ... help
IDEAS !!
i know you said the drivers are installed but I'm not sure they are....but try this
put your tab in manual apx mode and hook up to your pc - if theres an apx device listed then run afterOTA Lite version to get your cpuid that way...there is no relationship between the serial no and the cpuid...if nothing else works the only answer is Linux, as all the others have said
ok here what i have done ...
installed Ubuntu 12.10 ... done
installed all developer packages ...done
extracting the UID ... 0x3806148417f4317 ... done
double check ...the same result ...done
trying to convert to SBK ... FAIL
adding extra -as advised- "0" so the UID become ... 0x03806148417f4317 ...done
converting to SBK ... done
back to windows 7 ...done
trying to make "A 500 manger" or "A500 APX" detect the tablet ...fail
windows detection to APX .. done
retry "A500 manger or APX" ...fail
downgrading from "acer USB drive" 1.06 to 1.00 ....done
trying "A500 manger or APX" ...done
on "A500 APX" ... chose package 13 , put the SBK , APX detected , the tablet show "Acer" in green color with "Acer Iconia APX Mode" ... (finally something different)
"A500 APX" asks me if i saw the new "APX mode" ... yes
and then
it continued in all steps with success
till reaching " Exiting the bootloader..."
and it hangs for 30 min on that stage with no respond not what so ever !!! -_-
any ideas , guys ?? :fingers-crossed:

Hello! What did you do in the end? I have something not exactly the same, but a similar situation to yours. Your final solution could be my salvation too...... :crying:
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards.
The tool he used flashes a custom recovery as well as the unlocked boot loader..for some reason the recover.img got corrupted...u must use the ones that come with the tool and use the tool to install it. Once u have the unlocked boot loader you're able to use a flash able zip to change it if u want.
So to answer yr question just reflash again. Choosing the bundle market option select bundle 17 its the latest version and seems most stable.
The window in the s/shot is fast boot menu, power volume up. Wiping cache helps if you are stuck on Acer boot logo

Install the latest verson of kies on you computer.
Then in kies under "Tools" choose "firmware upgrade and initialisation".
Then give you model number "SM-N910?", next give serial number of the phone (you can find that on the sticker behind the battery in your phone).
Then you get a message that the "device can be initialised to its original setting"
Press ok and ok again. Then put your phone in download mode and connect to the computer and press "start upgrade".
Not working @dewingerd
Kies doesnt detect my phone. Bt drivers are installed correctly. It only opens in downloading mode

Happened to me also 2 days ago.
Your mobile only can enter download mode ? but when u try to go to recovery or just power it , nothing happened , right ??
Well , you should do as @dewingerd said carefully do these steps :
Initially you need to upgrade kies to the latest version (mine is : 3.2.15072_2) or this will fail cuz it failed with me the first time.
1) take of your battery , and write down your Serial number .
2) open kies first.
3) open mobile in download mode then connect it . KIES WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE MOBILE
4) Choose : Tools >> Firmware upgrade and initialisation
5) Kies will ask you about your mobile name , TYPE : SM-N910C , ALL CAPITAL LETTERS OR KIES WILL NOT RECOGNIZE IT
6) if you did not type the name correctly , you will get a message that kies does not know this name , so start again , type SM-N910C
7) then you will get another box asks for your serial number , enter it (Not case sensitive).
8) Kies then will inform you that it is going to prepare the phone and download the firmware for your device and that you have to connect it in download mode.
9) unplug your mobile , plug it again and click start.
10) Now the process is going to take a while depending on your internet connection (downloading about 2GB), do not unplug the phone and do not allow your laptop/PC to sleep.
11) cautions that I read before : you better not connect or disable any usb devices during the process.
12) suddenly , you will hear you mobile starting up again , congratulations
Q: What about my data , apps and stuff ?
A: All is gone except for those on your External card , sorry , nothing can be done for that (May be you should remove your SDcard first just in case).
Good Luck

thank for your quick reply, my variant is n910c ans yes i can still install recovery. I upgraded from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 poland using odin and everything works well. I flashed Googy N4 kernel using TWRP 2.8.1.1 and everything still works well. My problem began when I made a backup of my 5.1.1 stock rom and flash infinity rom which end up in bootloop. So I tried restoring my backup but whenever it got to DATA RESTORING it keeps failing and flashing back the 5.1.1 poland stock firmware through odin keeps ending up on the SAMSUNG boot animation screen.

GoogyMax N4 v2.0. I have tried TWRP 2.8.7.0 but still the same.
After flashing stock firmware using odin, on my stock recovery i found this error
"E:failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)
dm-verity verification failed.......
need to check drk first......."
I have search through the internet but i can't get a clear picture of what it meant.
Does anyone has an idea of what it meant and how to resolve the error?

Hi again ,
Looks like a locked phone and was unlocked in a wrong way or something like that.
read this thread , looks like the same problem.
in short , you need the 4 files firmware to be flashed via oden and as stated in page 2 there , you flash them without pit file.
You can find the 4-files firmware here but this is not 5.1.1 firmware , give it a try , if failed too , search for 5.1.1 4-files firmware.
here is another site but I do not really know if they are 4-files or the single file .
Good luck.

Good Luck

Try to download the appropriate firmware with Samfirm_reborn0.3.6.2 you'll find on Github. Unpack the .zip and start as admin.
Insert full device name and region and additionally check "binary nature" box.
It should download the latest! ROM multiple file format from Samsungs servers directly, at least it did for all my 7 devices (just in case) before I rooted them.
BUT I know that for N910V nothing is found and don't know about S model.
KIES I never used as I read it sometimes conflicts with Odin.
If files are downloaded flash with Odin adding the different files in their input fields. (selve explaining names)

Soft Bricked (SM-G530W)

I was trying to upate the SUBinary and it told me to reboot. As soon as I did I get a message saying "Custom Binary Blocked by FRP" and a red text saying "Secure Fail : Kernal" help me.
It has something to do with your Google account being logged into the phone.. samsung can send signal to reset it but they won't if it's been rooted etc still trying to make sure reflash omg the phone with original rom would make it worse or not. Or maybe just reflash in the kernal. I'm on t mobile but can only find original rom on t mobile same network but we will see. I'm on my fiance a accident messaging from her phone lol or maybe just reflash the kernal the whole problem for me is I don't have a computer to try to reflash from what someone told me I may try to reflash with odin 3.90 with a tar file to the exact model number
Solution
I had the exact same problem as you but i found a fix
i know this is a very late response but who knows maybe some people will run into it
First of all you will need
-odin3
-samsung usb drivers
-g530w tar md5 file find yours here (im telus variant but bell worked for me)

or

This is the best and quick fix for FRP Lock

Worked for my SM-G530W
I had the same problem, and i used Kies3 (not compatible with my phone anyway), but if you go on toolbar to "TOOLS", "Firmware Upgrade and initialisation", it asks you for your device model (for mine i typed SM-G530W, and then it asks you for device serial number (S/N) found under the battery by the IMEI number. After this, follow on screen prompts (Restart your device in Download mode/ PDA, connect USB cable, etc), and let the software download and install (factory rom); After your device restarts, you are good to go (sometimes if it gets stuck on booting, remove battery for few second and start again.) Now you have to go back and set up everything you want, including re-rooting your device... Good luck. (My device is Galaxy Grand Prime SM-G530W Factory unlocked rom, Android 5.11.

S7 Stuck in Bootload / Updating

Hi all,
since one day i´m totally wrecked up with my SM-G935F. On Monday morning the display was frozen. I looked in some forums and used odin to flugh the newest version (7) to the phone. After clearing the cache it worked quite well for about 3 hours then freezed again. Since that i´ve tried so many options, all leading to nothing ;( I´m quite sure that there must be a solution and hope for your help.
The actual status is:
The phone shows the Galaxy S7 Edge screen, then the "Installing system update". This crashed every time (no command) and then a black screen is shown with some information in the upper half:
No Support SINGLE-SKE
Supported API:3
# Manual Mode #
-- Appling Multi CSC --
Applied the CSC-code: DBT
Successfully applied multi-CSC
Successfully verify for dmverity hast tree
Sometimes after waiting it jumps to the "bootloader". The normal way with the volume up + power+ home is not working at the moment or i´m doing something wrong.
I´ve tried a few fixes:
-> downloaded the newest Firmware, an older version and the oldest one from sammobile and install via odin
Normal install in AP via Odin stuck an recovery.imgI renamed the file without md5, open it and extracted the files. From there i tried to single upload them (boot, system and recovery) It freezes at system...
-> flash home file first with odin
it stucks on RQT Close and don´t finish
-> install new firmware via SD Card
frp lock denied the installation. Get error: E: signature verification failed
-> samsung smart switch and kies
both not working. I´m not even able to make the software initializing because it tells me that my phone (SM-G935F) is not supported... WTF....
-> install CWM recovery via adb
I´ve tried to install an other revocery tool without success. I tried the ways via Odin and adb, both collapsing with the error of activated frp lock
-> TWRP recovery via adb
Same like CWM. The Binary Upload is denied trough frp-lock
-> Whipe cache from fastboot
I whiped the cache several times without anything changing
-> factory reset from fastboot
It says that factory reset was successful but data could not be wiped. It also changes nothing....
From my nooby perspective i would:
-> unlock the frp
-> install custom recovery
-> unlock signature validation
-> install via adb or sd card the newest Firmware
-> lucky guy
I´m really depressed/sad right now and have no idea what to do next. I spoke with samsung service and they told me to send them the phone so they can repair it. I hope that this is not ne final solution...
If there is any possibility to get the phone back to factory reset or any other working system i would be soo glad.
sorry for the bad english, it´s not my mother tongue
Thanks in advance and beste regards
Sebastian
LOL, didint read all but the part where the phone freeze after few hours on MM or even on clean Nougat firmware its a big sign that the problem is with hardware, just send the phone to Samsung so they could fix it and move on

I actually did. From my perspective there was no other way so i send it in. Really unhappy with this solution but i hope that Samsung Support will repair it. Maybe i was too naive with the android phone. i thought that i where able to totally delete and reinstall the system like i do with my computer. Now i will look for a good backup solution for the future ;D
Thanks in advance
I think you messed up your phone somehow... certain steps you described do worry me what you might have done.
Did you root/unlock your phone before? If yes, Samsung will happily return your S7 without even touching it.
Kies & Smart Switch do not work on rooted phones. Exception: Emergency Software Recovery and Initialization
Did you try flashing all four files (BL, AP, CP, CSC not HOME_CSC) in Odin at once? Did you try another PC / USB port?

tune2fs is missing. Unable to transfer files via USB

My S10 plus (G9750F) has been acting bit weird. I am unable to use it to transfer file from PC ( windows or mac). The computer does not recognise it. I have several Samsung phones, S9 and S8 which are easily recognised by the PC. My S10 plus charges and but does not show any USB connection to the PC. I have the latest firmware installed. I did swap various cables and ports and did cache wipe and factory reset many times no use.
What I notice is that there is an error on Recovery saying # Reboot Recovery cause is [BL:Recovery Mode Set by key]#
E:[libfs_mgr]Unable to disable quotas on /dev/block/platform/13d60000.ufs/by-name/userdata because /system/bin/tune2fs is missing
Supported API 3
Manual Mode v1.0.0#
I have searched XDA forum but there is no .
Any body who has had this problem before . Could you please share your solution here. Thank you.
My current firmware G975FXXS5CTD1.
tune2fs is missing. Unable to transfer files via US
First, change a usb cable. If you have the same problem, try a samsung data manager tool. Usually, it can help you access to all files on your Samsung phone and transfer them to computer easily via usb cable or wifi connecting. Good luck to you.
same problem, my s10+ restart randomly

Same problem my phone fails in the touch, in the upper areas it interacts well but as the screen is lowered it tends to fail and it was already verified that the display is in perfect condition
c'mon people, no
advanced users here? clearly samsung broke something.
especially they probably were relying on tune2fs which got removed (to be fair it's an ancient library).
it seems that something during the reboot process goes sideways, but i'm not sure where to start looking for it

I have same problem any solution?
i have same probleme.. my S10+ was charging and suddenly it stuck on logo and when enter recovery i got same error.. any solution ?
thx
Same here. The OEM Unlock option in developers option has also disappeared. This follows an attempt to root my phone with TWRP and Magisk, I then got smart switch to do an update to latest version of android. Mine is a Canadian A50 (SM-A505W)
Edit : I thought I should mention : I also got a "Repair apps" option that appeared on my Android Recovery screen. If I try to reflash TWRP, I get a "Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed(BOOT) error. I'm not sure if all what I'm saying here is part of the same problems than you've been having, but I prefer saying more than not enough in case that leads us to some ideas on how to solve it....
