Not sure if it's just my eyes decieving me but any users with the white phone feel that the sides are becoming a lil bit yellowy?
I know the phone isn't pure white, but I don't think the phone itself should change colour with the material used?! :silly:
I use a case too, & I also mean the part that's around the middle glass strips which seem 'drity'?
This is a little knowledge of what my brother taught me raw materials regarding of white paint since he is production manager of our family business manufacturer of paint. It may apply possible in xperia z. There are two version one is pearly white and bluish white. Bluish white is more better and really expensive due to for prolong years of used and wear and tear its white is likely white but not as new. But the pearly white after long year's exposed white will become dirty white. For me, it is inevitable for the white version of xperia z.

Thanks for the info, that's a shame because it's a very nice looking phone
I would have thought the case would protect it from getting dirty quickly too

If anything a case will be more likely to speed up the process, especially plastic/rubber cases, the chemicals in them are rather reactive with paints. Typically, it shouldn't tarnish that fast, try using some natural non-abrasive cleaning products to bring the white back a bit. White especially will look dirty from just general sweat and mucky fingers. Hope this helps.

Yeah mine is tpu case, the case is white too & the corners have become very mucky already.
I do have a plastic one but find it's not as good when protecting the phone. What form of cleaning products do you recommend that is safe & worth a try? Like I said, it could just be my eyes & the phone was already that colour Just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same?
Mine still is nice and white

My sides are still white, though the back has turned grey, but thats just the cover. The phone itself is still white
good thing mine is purple
Ok maybe mine is still 'white' but I just am getting paranoid & think it's slightly yellow when that's the original colour!
Thanks for everybody's input

ANY white surface will yellow over time. It is inevitable, except if you use your phone in a presurized bag and in absolute darkness where UV radiation will not affect it.
purple ones seems won't have this trouble

I currently have HTC One and I'm debating whether I should get the G2 or Xperia Z1.
I was leaning towards the G2 because of thick bezels on the Z1 but this review kind of made me think more:
http://www.androidauthority.com/xperia-z1-vs-lg-g2-quick-look-266308/
I know Z1 is not available yet in the US and probably will take some time but since I'm not eligible to upgrade, I don't mind buying int unlocked from somewhere... What you guys think? Would like to hear your thoughts
Update:
I found a better comparison video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0cnAxIxICU

Z1 is a larger and heavier device with a smaller screen. Its material feels better to the touch, but the G2 is more ergonomic to hold. Buttons on the back is either a plus or minus depending on how you use it. I havent seen a really good comparison in cameras yet, mostly just a few shots and they leave out something so its mostly a tie, also neither handsets have finished firmware, however the Z1 has a camera button if thats important to you.
The only real benefit I see to Z1 is Micro-sd card slot and IP67, but that of course comes at the price of size, weight and price.
And I solved the first problem with this: http://www.meenova.com/
Anyways, its up to what you like. Go touch and compare them at a store or read a lot of reviews on both, dont blindly go by one places thoughts.

I'm in the same exact boat. HTC One and lgog right now. I'm torn because i love the lgog community and if some of the devs move to the g2 it'll definitely be worth it, on the other hand I've never owned a sony device so don't know how development is with them in general. I like the z1 for waterproofing and build quality, my major qualms with g2 are build quality and those back buttons.. but with the z1 the screen could be horrendous and the bezels are huge. also, don't know when at&ts getting the z1. and I've heard that the latter's led notification isn't too bright which is a huge disappointment I have with my one. thinking once I can hold both phones in my hands side by side I might be able to finally make a decision

That's where I'm getting to as well. Waiting a few weeks to hear more about Z1 US release dates so I can compare them side by side. From photos and videos, Z1 build quality is very descent so we won't miss our One. But stupid bezel! One of the reasons that I'm bored with my One is thick bezels.

I really like Z1 back design. It is sleek
dont know how LG phone is but I currently own the XZ, the worst premium smart phone. its beautiful but thats where it end. the thing over heat, the screen is horrible with viewing angles, the screen is not oliophobic. if you like to flash stuff there isnt may DEV for the phone. The best thing i like about the phone is its water resistant, if that is not a thing you care about then i would advise not to get Sony phones.

That sucks! The problem with lack of dev for Sony devices is they are not widely available on US carriers. I'm hoping Sony get it right this time and release it on multiple carriers like what LG is doing. Re. viewing angles, Z1 is the same I guess it shows in the video I posted in previous post. But this is not a big deal for me. Non-oleophobic screen can suck but in the comparison video I posted the LG shows more smudge and fingerprints on display than the Sony. Maybe they fixed it?

Yeah, I'd wait for an Anandtech review before making final judgement. To me though, G2 is a lot sexier cause of the bezels, and form factor.

Lol what half ass reviews told you that the camera on the Xperia Z1 was the best one available? A lot of dumb people can't judge and go by blind faith looking at the specs. Ooooh 20MP and 1/2.3" sensor it must be better!
I made this fun post. It's on the Sony forum so I'm sure there are some nasty things below the first post. There are links to flickr photosets showcasing photos from the Z1 and G2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45511174#post45511174
The camera on the Z1 really sucks ass. The G2 is like the S4 camera, but with OIS and less sharpening.
You want to talk about water-resistance? The other touted Z1 feature?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXPbq-PuqC8
This is the Z Ultra, which has similar water-resistant specs. The best you can hope for is that you can talk on the phone in the rain, or spill a little ice water on it at a restaurant. You can't take it to the pool, to the beach, or literally do anything else with it because it will void warranty and the sealing isn't up to snuff. The touchscreen will completely screw up when exposed to water. Even sweaty fingers will screw it up.
Water-proofing is a compromise. You have to fiddle with flaps for most of your ports. And worst of all, it screws up the sound quality of the speaker and the sound quality of the microphone. There's a water repellent membrane that keeps water out. It also keeps sound out (or in) as well. There's a review somewhere (I forgot where) that has a clip of the speaker quality. It's as bad as my $15 flip phone I use for backup. For you HTC One owners with BoomSound, it will make you cry. You can also tell from sample Z1 videos the audio capture is more muffled than other phones.
Some people think the Xperia Z line's aesthetic is classy. I think it looks like ass IMO. It looks archaic with its blocky designs and the fingerprints dominate all the phones no matter where you go. The Z1 is no different, and looks even worse with a bigger bezel and chunky metal frame. I thought they were suppose to be going for sleekness? That frame is like a growth of some sort.
And because of this aesthetic that has glass on the back and front, There is a SCREEN PROTECTOR on both sides, just like the Z Ultra and Z, to keep shards from flying if it ever gets dropped. Do you like the feel of a screen protector? I find them slimy and icky to touch and they completely ruin the look of the screen. Now you have one of those things on the BACK as well. It's like holding onto a bar of soap, that holds on to every single fingerprint like a tattoo.
And if it hasn't already been made abundantly clear, Sony makes ass for screens and the Z1 is no different. It also looks like ass. Poor viewing angles, black levels, gaudy and completely wrong colors and contrast caused by terrible image processing. I mentioned this before somewhere, that it looks like a really really bad first gen AMOLED display, with the bad viewing angles and blacks of a terrible LCD. The worst of both worlds. To add insult to injury, there is that SCREEN PROTECTOR mentioned above that gives it that trapped in an aquarium look that loves to reflect light. Everyone else is trying to reduce the gap between the screen and the surface, with laminated panels and super thin Gorilla Glass, to increase clarity and brightness, reduce reflection, and give it that printed on floating on top look. Sony wants to buck the trend. They love the submerged under water look. I hope you love it to if you plan on getting the Z1.
The G2 can be had for $585 on some carriers and will undoubtedly get cheaper. The Z1 is a "premium" device. Sony won't stop mentioning that. It also comes with a "premium" price. Over $700. And who knows when it will arrive on a US carrier? The Z took months to get to T-mobile, and they were the only ones carrying it. It's also still priced like its a bigshot flagship.
In a nutshell, don't buy the Z1.
Troll much? We get it, you don't like Sony.

I hear you and I agree about some of the points. I have not seen Z1 yet but I don't think it is as bad as you pictured it. Here's the article that explains why Z1 camera is the best
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Here...leading-cameraphone-according-to-Sony_id47242
Also I went to Verizon store and put my Htc One screen next to G2 both at 100% brightness and loaded the same image on screen, the One has much better white levels and crisper text.
T-Mobile just launched the XZ in July. I wouldn't expect US carriers to have this phone until January, and I'll be damned if I'm paying 1k dollars for a phone. Should have my G2 tomorrow, can't wait.
Too be honest I was really excited to hear about the xperia z1. I knew it'd come down to the lg g2 or xperia z1 for me but after seeing several camera pics of the xperia z1 I'm definitely not impressed. I agree with the reviewer from cnet. The camera isn't bad but it definitely isn't impressive. Plus the phone is pricey. The only reason i would have picked the xperia z1 over the lg g2 was for the camera but no way...LG G2 for me. IMO the LG G2 camera is better and if you don't agree, the xperia z1's camera definitely isn't too far ahead. Also here's some camera shots from both phones http://www.androidpit.com/camera-test-sony-xperia-z1-lg-g2-and-cyber-shot-qx10
I was hoping the screen/camera would improve but now I'm hearing that these are the final results which is tilting me toward the g2.. only reasons I wanted the z1 were water proofing, lack of plastic and lack of back buttons

Neither of them....
I've been unfortunate enough to receive 2 faulty Z3s, but have had a chance to compare the 2 side by side.
I know it's normal for companies to use different panels from different suppliers, but in this case Sony also seem to be using different touchscreen overlays as well.
Aside from the fact that one screen has pink whites, and the other has green whites, there is an obvious difference when the screen is off too, in addition to the feel in hand.
The original Z3 I got felt very plasticky, scratched very easily, and had very obvious markings where the digitiser is under the screen. Even a slight bit of direct light caused the thing to shimmer. I assume this is the Dragontrail glass.
With the replacement however, the glass actually feels like glass, so I assume this one is using Corning Gorilla Glass. The digitiser, you really have to look for it under bright direct light to see it. The display also has much better uniformity as well, where as the original had loads of light bleed at the bottom.
Sadly the replacement has a faulty camera button, otherwise it'd be damn near perfection.
Either way it's strange to have a phone where screen differences go beyond stock colour calibration.
I'd upload pictures, but it's extremely difficult to capture the digitiser etc, and you've all seen the comparisons of other phones where colour temperature is concerned.
Hopefully my 3rd replacement has gorilla glass. It really does feel that much better than the dragontrail stuff.
Edit: Forgot to add, the touch response on the gorilla glass display is noticeably slower than that on the pink dragontrail display. However on the flip side, the actual display response time (ghosting, for LCD panels) on the gorilla glass display is lower than that on the dragontrail.
Thanks!
and now we have the reason why sony will not say which glas they use.
Can you please let us know where you are getting your Z3 phones from and model codes?

I very much doubt they use different panels. Sony has a financial partnership interest in JDI and their panels are all sourced from JDI.
Sony use proprietary backlight LED technology that is only available from JDI as an integral part of the panel.
If you have some concrete objective evidence or source, that would be "interesting". Otherwise, I think you're experiencing production tolerance spread.
Is one supposed to be superior to the other? Never heard of dragontail glass before
as long as there are no scientific tests everything is based on assumptions and gut feelings.

Yeah, they used both goriila glass and dragontail (or whatever). Someone in the Z3C forum asked sony, and they said as much.

It may be true, or not. Fact remains we don't know. Given the remarkable USP characteristics of the Z3 panel, it would be equally remarkable that 2 suppliers were used. But not impossible, granted.
I am aware of the 2 panel manufacturers for the Z1, but nothing about the Z2 apart from early pre-release models.
Again, without factual evidence it's impossible to be certain, one way or another, and purely speculation.
My display is neither red or green whites, it has extreme blue whites. Even with adjustment I find it difficult to reduce the blue.
As for the rest of the post, can't say I have anything to add as usual lol

we just need the people who already rooted to check /sys/devices/mdss_dsi_panel/panel_id
I don't know if this is anything to go by but ill share anyway. I have recently noticed that if i tap the front display lightly using my finger nail and then tap the back of the phone. The glass panel on the back feels harder /more solid and makes a slightly louder noise to the tap. I also remember the display on my HTC one feeling similarly glass like as does the back panel on the z3 but the front display feels a tad more plastic but i wouldn't describe it as feeling cheap or anything! Just a little surprised by this finding as i thought bought the back and front panel used the same panels?

Which is better? the D6633 or the D6653..? I have the D6633 and the screen looks amazing! Way better than my z2 was. I don't use screen protectors or cases, I am VERY carful with my devices.. The only thing hitting it in my pocket is lint... My z2 had the same treatment and STILL the screen had micro scratches... Pissed me off to no end! Hope things are NOT the same with the z3.

My D6633 screen is better. D6653 ( my friend's ) is too bluish. Harder to calibrate it.
As my experience, screen panel ( or screen calibration ) are random, not depend on model.
After calibrate, my D6633 is nearly same my UltraSharp monitor. I also have Note 4 (demo model N910X). Note 4 screen are sharper, more detail but Z3 are brighter and whiter. Note 4 screen are a bit yelowish.
Ahh, OK... Yeah, my d6633 screen is perfect... I was so happy as I know so many are different. My 1st z2 had a better screen than my 2nd z2 but my 1st z2 would get the micro scratchs easier ... Hope my z3 has a GG3 screen. I have a small blemish or scratch on the lens for the camera but after numerous tests, the pics still look awesome.
Whats with all the different model numbers? Its mentioned here that the D6633 display is better then the D6653 but why make one display better then the other? It doesnt make sense to me! Plus why so many different models? I have a D6603 and i have also seen a C6603
Ok So this is the thread where you come to talk about the build quality of the 5X and any issues/defects you discover with your device. Since it seems like devices will be shipping soon I thought I'd get this thread started. More info will be added to this OP as people report things.. stay tuned..
Hopefully this thread doesn't get used much
LG is known to use plastics that can crack in weird places but I'm hoping none of those issues are present

Oh it will.. All the OCD people will flood to it with every little thing.. I know I use to be one of them.. haha I stopped reading threads like this because they would make me notice things I never would have noticed before and would have been in ignorant bliss if I did not read the thread.. haha With the N5 I thought mine was solid, until I read a similar thread on it and found my volume buttons rattled when you tapped the top right of the screen.. It didn't bother me and I didn't notice it much... Until I read one of these threads.. haha

Yeah...lol. Right near the volume key and the headphone jack on my Nexus 5. At least my screen was and still is perfect.
Zero issues found (so far anyway)
Build quality is excellent, even gaps between screen/chassis and buttons, no backlight bleed. Buttons feel solid and don't wobble and no creaking or flex in the phone. Slight softness on the back cover but I doubt this could be classed as a build issue.
Certainly feels like a quality device and not something just chucked together.

Interesting, and it feels soft? Not like plastic?

Its plastic, just feels like there is a little "give" in the middle. Hand feel is pretty similar to the n5, maybe a little less grippy.

Idk if you held a Moto X 2014, but is it something like that? There was a little "give" if pushed hard enough (really hard actually)

Not held one but that describes the feel pretty well

Since you didn't hold one, based on pictures of the plastic backing of the Moto X 2014, is it something like that? I think that's the best comparison phone I can think of when it comes to the type of plastic

Hard to tell from the pictures to be honest.

Hmm, is the back ploycarbonate? Is it also smooth to touch or has some grippy substance to it like the black Nexus 5? Idk how else to explain it.
edit: I saw in a previous post you answered the question. You can disregard mine or answer if you like

im going to assume the back is like the nexus 5 and will be soft touch. that's what i love about my moto g 2015, the rigid back cover. the only concern i have is that protruding camera hump.
A guy over on AC posted some thoughts.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-5x/595823-mine-has-just-been-delivered-4.html#post4756602
"Just had mine delivered a day early, too. Great stuff.
Here's some quick thoughts (hope OP doesn't mind a small hijack):
1. I got the black one - the material is soft to touch, but not in the same way the original N5 was. The N5 had a grippy kind of feel - this material feels more solid, but silky smooth to the touch. I like it. The edge material is the same as the rear material too.
2. The gap between the glass and frame seems a lot tighter this time - I'm hopeful that there won't be as much dirt finding its way into that area as with the N5, for those of us who don't use cases.
3. The dimensions are lovely. I've come from a Nexus 6 and this just feels so much nicer to hold. Slim and light are the words that fit best.
4. Nice to be back on an IPS too - I prefer the more muted colours. It is as good as the N5 screen. The increase to 5.2" doesn't have any impact on the sharpness as far as I can tell.
5. The buttons protrude a nice distance and have a good clicky feel to them. They don't feel as sharp around the edges as they did on the N5. Small amount of rattle if that sort of thing bothers you.
6. The Nexus logo is printed instead of being inlaid. The logo and fingerprint scanner ring are a dark grey (graphite?) colour.
7. The fingerprint scanner is fast and reliable. It gives a single vibration for a successful attempt and a double for a failed attempt. Just touch the scanner to activate the phone.
8. Camera opens quickly and the auto-focus seems reliable and rapid. Haven't got much more to say about the camera yet.
9. The OS feels slightly slower than 5.1.1 on the N6. Very smooth, but more delibrately paced, if that makes sense. I wonder if that's more Marshmallow than the hardware - particularly as this benchmarks in the same region as last year's N6.
10. Ambient display seems to work at least as well as my N6 - although it's early days still.
That's all I have for now. It's a good start though and exactly the phone I wanted last year."
Now that devices are shipping and people are getting them.. Post your observations about build quality
Hi
Build quality seems good, nothing to report of a negative nature.
Regards
Phil
About N5. I got mine ran over by a Kart. Broke the screen, replaced it. Months later happened something similar, this time the LCD even cracked (guess it was a fake spare). Just to give you an idea of the treatment.
Not one plastic crack!

Are the speaker grille things hard plastic? Is it durable? It looks like it can be easy to break if pressed or similar
edit: I am worried that it can be pushed in if it gets hit or it can pop off
Hi everybody.
I just broke my phone yesterday and I am looking for some nice quality brand new LCD Display for Essential.
Is anyone here with a screen that has already been changed? I want to know does the new screen provide the same resolution size like is normal for our Display ( I mean 1312x2560ppi) or it is less?
CPU-Z is a good program to see that.
Thanks.

Take a look here:

Based on my experience. The post has a link to my review of the display I bought on Amazon. Yes, it has the proper resolution, and works just as well as the original.
As always, YMMV...
i got this one and it works well:

Ph-1 = the easiest way to change the display

Frankly, no idea, but I think yes... I don't see a lot of prints/smudges on the screen, it stays very clean. Feels very smooth to the touch - better feeling than the screen on my SGS7.
Also don't know if it's real Gorilla Glass (ppl on Amazon were asking). So far, not a single scratch.

Check, please. put a drop of water on the screen and look
I replaced screen on wife's phone with this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07CLNDBZS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title it appears to work and look the same when comparing it side by side with my phone with original screen

Looks like it is oleophobic... The water drop doesn't spread on the glass, and when I tilt the phone and shake it a bit, the drop rolls on the screen intact, without leaving a trail.
