[Q] Question about Asurion

Has anyone had to return a phone to Asurion that was rooted and they not accept it? Glass was OK but inside cracked and would not light up so could not unroot before sending. Did they try to charge more than the deductible after receiving the phone?
Thanks
Did you try what I told you to do? Hook up the mhl cable to a monitor so you could see the phone screen to triangle away and unroot. I guess not.

Thanks but you had to have told that to someone else. I should have thought of that. I don't know if they will. I just have not heard anything from them so far. It should make no difference to them. It being rooted has no bearing on the problem.
I've sent a lot of phones in for various reasons (clumsy) that were rooted and I have not encountered a problem.

Thanks that make me feel better. First time I have ever had to send one. Also first time I have rooted one.
They could care less.
You are paying them so if they did question it I would argue with them. You are right about not telling you about the mhl thing. Someone about a week ago posted the exact same thing. Lol.

Ugh I made such a mistake

I upgraded yesterday and noticed my husband's galaxy box said MF3 so I was looking pretty screwed for rooting/roms. Cue today when I notice that my box says MDL! I am filled with hope! Then I realize with dread that my phone made a crazy noise in the middle of the night and I half asleep hit update. Dreaded MF3 now. Ugh. I feel like the world's biggest idiot and I can't reverse.

Just asking in case because if you got the phone from Costco by any chance, you can return it without any questions asked and get one that has MDL on it.

Oh I will it just seems like the difficulty level has increased a lot. I considered myself fairly tech savvy (coming from a jailbroken iPhone 5) but a lot of rooting information is going over my head

Rooting is very different than jailbreaking and more user involved. Don't feel bad. You'll get it down and then you'll be an Android master.

Yeah att store think I'm borked cause I could pay the restocking fee but how to exchange?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
If u just got it. Then u have 14 days to return to AT$T without restock fee. But doesn't guarantee u will get lucky with ur next one being MDL either. I bought 1 for each family member (4 total) and received only 1 MDL outta the bunch. But I been reading on the safe strap and it may be easier than dealing with AT$T

When I had the Lumia 920 and returned it within 14 days, I still had to pay the restocking fee. ($36)
Just say you have some issue with your WiFi and it's extremely weak at your house, but your husbands WiFi strength is full. Basically tell them you have a defective device. They should be able to exchange the phone for you without the restocking fee. If you're brave enough, ask kindly if you could get a phone with the MDL software. If they bring one out that is MF3, ask kindly if they can recheck.
Good luck!

If they tell you it might be the router that is causing the issue, tell them they're wrong because your husbands S4 stays connected all the time and doesn't have any problems.
I took the MF3 uptate by choice just for a new challenge and its actually very easy to root using the card reader exFAT formated SdCard method.Safstrap is also very easy to install and use.its all good reading material here in Xda

I was sweating bullets. They forced a factory reset and were saying I had to keep the phone and so I pushed the fact that we are a cell phone only house and with no coverage at random it wasn't safe (since we use a mcell tower for coverage) then they approved it and had ONE in back.
Success!!!!
Can anyone tell me how I turn off updates so I stay at MDL and point me to the direction of the best rooting tutorial for slightly techy people? Lol.this was crazy.

This will get you rooted and a custom recovery. On page 2 post 14 has the option for CWM or TWRP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297900
You need Titanium Backup (paid version) to freeze these 3 files.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41424569&postcount=4
*edit* Whatever you do, do not put the SIM in or setup your wifi until the 3 files are frozen.

Just use the tutorial that is located in the General section.
Root -> Custom recovery (I suggest CWM) -> Custom ROM.
If you use CASUAL to root, Loki and install TWRP after that is complete, download ROM Manager from the playstore and flash CWM. (I've been having boot issues with AOSP (CM10.1) and switching to CWM helped)
If you want a really simple ROM, I suggest CyanogenMod 10.1 RC2 (get.cm) or you could do NIGHTLIES. Up to you.
Glad you were able to get an MDL version!

That is the one I used and it never gave me the option to pick CWM over TWRP.

Agreed. Not very happy with this at all. Locking us out of our own devices that most of us paid FULL PRICE FOR!!!
Yeah me too... This sucks... I'm seriously thinking about selling mine and buying a international model. Does anyone know which model works good on At&t?
I bought 2 note 3's and and 1 gear. Dropped about a G and I can't use my device the way I would like? Not a happy customer at this point.

I went to an AT&T store a few days ago to get a secure element for free (SIM) and received a text survey the next day. I gave the employee a 10 but said I wouldnt recommend at&t to a friend, and everything else I gave low low reviews. They called me several hours later and I let them know why... I am sure it doesnt mean much... but at least they know I think they suck!
The people on the phone tried to help... but didn't really know how to go about getting someone to talk to me about bootloaders... they even recommended me checking out XDA to unlock it... LOL awesome.
I told them that I am perfectly fine with voiding my warranty... so can I please get this flashed to an international version... no idea how to answer something like that... oh well...

Yeah right. I'm sure this thread will be locked. I knew what I was getting when I bought it. I really didn't care as long as I could root.
If flashing and ROMing is that important, get a different phone. The T-Mobile version of the Note 3 is unlocked and will work on AT&T. I prefer AT&T because I get 4G/LTE where I live and in the building where I work.
Very happy with my Note 3 rooted and using Xposed, Wanam, etc. No need for a custom ROM. At least for me anyways.
AT&T has analytics on social media and Web information they collect on what is being said about them. Most large companies do and thought this might get some attention.

What do I do about this? I've never seen it before.

In trouble with whom? You own the device right? Have you voided your warranty and gone where no carrier will allow? Absolutely.
Is it irreversible? Nope. The message is probably being generated because the root check has been tripped. If you need to, you can follow the return to stock procedure found here and have all evidence of it erased.

So right now I have a Verizon stock rom. Should I try to go back to unrooted stock? Or stay how I am? I froze the Verizon program that notified me of it.
Why do you want to go back to unrooted? Just to get the message to go away? Why did you root in the first place? If you're worried about Verizon knowing that your phone is rooted, believe me, it's not an issue. That bloatware program is not spying on you or sending info to big red. Especially after you froze it.
If the message bothers you so much, or you're so worried about the ramifications of rooting/modding a device you paid for yourself and now completely own, then you probably don't belong joining a community like this. Sorry to be harsh, but every thread on here is loaded with disclaimers about the ramifications of altering the stock firmware.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Look I get what you're saying. I've been rooting phones for 5+ years. I was asking this question because I've never had that message pop up. I only asked the question because I'm worried about money. I just want to make sure I won't be getting a phone call, email, or text from Verizon saying I screwed up and now I'm hosed.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
It's local. You hosed insurance and warranty when rooting technically. Verizon will and has replaced my phones rooted. They can't do crap but deny that(for now). You are good, just flash stock if that worried when/if returning.

They will come to your door in the middle of the night, take you away to a discrete location, and then make you confess what you did to your phone.
IT WILL FOREVER BE ON YOUR PERMANENT RECORD. IT WILL AFFECT YOUR CREDIT SCORES AND MAY JEOPARDIZE FINDING FUTURE EMPLOYMENT!!!

What's your thoughts on note 3 kit kat update?

I got my note 3 a few months ago and rooted out of the box and stayed on jelly bean because people said kit kat had very bad battery life and a few bugs just want to know your thoughts on if I I should take the 4.4.2 update or stay on 4.3?
Thanks!

I would not take the update. Kitkat killed my phone. Not really but my signal has been terrible since.

I agree the kitkat update got issues with reception
I think it depends on the manufacture date. KK borked my reception, but I'm planning on getting warranty replacement. I had a Note 3 from a month after release, so it is definitely an early version.

I did a warranty exchange and there is a significant difference in reception. I couldn't make calls from work indoors in some of my buildings, now I have no problem. Driving through canyons I would also have dropped calls, but since replacement I can actually stay on a call through the same place
