Hi everybody,
I have search a lot about my problem, but I don't find the exact same problem. I tried everything said on this forum and can't get trought my problem.
I had a Samsung Galaxy S4 and upgraded three days ago to a brand new Note 3. Everything is going fine exccept for GPS.
Here's my phone informations:
MODEL: SM-N900W8
CARRIER: Rogers (Canada)
Android version 4.3
BaseBand version N900w8VLUBMJ4
Version JSS15J.N900W8VLUBMJ4
The problem is: When I get into Google maps, i'll get a location (It is an approximation using Cell towers I think) When getting into Navigation, The FIRST location is ok (with an error margin but still, it's ok) but it never update position (The application seems to freeze but it doesn't). After searching a lot I installed applications like GPS Test and GPS Status to find out that I never get a GPS lock. After two or three minutes I get 1 or 2 satellites but never get more so it cannot lock. I often lost the 2 satellites I was getting after a few more minutes.
I got a lock once, I was inside my house, had 7 satellites but lost it after a few minutes again.
I did a Factory Reset, I did clear cache and dalvik cache several time, uninstalled Google Maps, tried the GPSFix.zip files as discussed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612757). Tried to clear AGPS and redownload, recalibrated compass, ... i think I tried everything I found but nothing help.
Please note that tests have been made on the road, with a clear view to the sky (No buildings, nothing in the way from the phone to the satellites. I also have experiences in rooting, flasshing ROM, playing with system files, so it should not be a lack of knowlege
My phone is rooted but i don't want to flash any ROM because I still have Knox flag to 0x0 and want to keep it (For a warranty purpose!)
If anyone can help on this, it would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jonathan

Use that warranty... You should be able to use the GPS and the fact it doesn't get satellite lock is a problem...

I did drop the phone ONE time and the glass break. I think there will be no way to get warranty until I repair it.
I've been having this issue since upgrading to KitKat on Note3 (Snapdragon) International Version.
I found an app today and fixed it.
App is TopNTP and you can find it in Playstore.
You need to have Root, of course.
Before it would take forever to lock the signal, and most of the time it wouldn't at all.
Now it takes from 5-10 seconds.
I'm on Stock ROM.
Try fastergps.........https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.fastergps&hl=en_GB
GMaps needs a data connection so could end up costing you a fortune.
Try navfree maybe?
once it has downloaded your specified map,use wifi,it only uses GPS after that.

try solution 1 from that post
Thanks for your answers, I solved the problem when repairing my screen. I think the antenna cable wasn't well inserted and by disassembling and reassimbling the phone, everything is perfect now.
I have X-Note rom, without breaking knox flag. Everything is good since that!
Thx

Yesterday, I got an update of the Navigon program; in the release-notes was a line, that this was an update for the Galaxy Nexus on ICS, but ONLY for v4.0.4...!
ICS on the Note, is v4.0.3...!
I can't test it yet, because my Note in stil on v2.3.6 (I update the official way, NOT via ODIN)...
Maybe you should inform Navigon about this problem!
I've updated last weekend to ICS and yesterday to the new Navigon version - everything works as expected.
I have the same problem.
After the update to ICS, my Sygic stop working. It could not detect the GPS signal anymore though the software is running.
I am on LPY stock. Sygic works fine. Testing the GPS can be done with GPS Test app.
Hi, i'm on the official ics german lpy and my navigon is working as it should. I installed the rom with mobile odin with wipe. All great here
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
its not working for mine too.
Yeh mine seems to be pooched as well... anyone found any fixes yet?
Cheers
Dave
I used to use navigon for my note, since updated to ics i had to remove it and installed sygic. Did try the new version but didn't work either. At this moment i'm still with sygic and i advice you all to do the same. I think the problem is not with the note (all problems seem to be related to this phone, don't know why ??) but with the navigon program itself. I tried several gps apps and they all worked fine... need to see if they are ics compatible though !!!

I am on Official UK ICS and i can get a GPS lock in my house with GPS Test, and it has steel reinforced walls, and i am on the ground floor.
John.
After getting ICS update on my Note, GPS has taken 10 minuits to fix first time. Now it is taking only 20 seconds to fix with any GPS related applications even inside building.
Mine wouldn't lock for a while either after an OTA update, left it on for a bit with navigation on then re booted. Ask good now.

I'm on ICS XEN and GPS is fine. Both Mappy and Route 66 lock, even indoors...
Hi,
First time on these forums ... I also have the issue with ICS 4.0.3 (official) on my Samsung Galaxy Note and my GPS not working. I already spent several hours digging the internet for no solution.
I tried several applications to get a "faster fix" with no change.
The symptom with Google Map or GPS Test is the GPS notification raised for about 1 second, then off for a few seconds, then on again ...
GPS Test is able to download AGPS fix with no error.
I tried to get the system logs and I am a bit stunned with this message :
07-10 00:58:55.485 E/gpsd ( 6311): ASSERT: ASSERT(!"GL_STOP_HW_PANIC") failed in /tmp/11617007/proprietary/deliverables/android/gps_interface/../gpsd/common/GlGpsdInterface.cpp:774
I put more of the log as an attachment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Hello you can install a GPS satellite software to try
I have flashed following ICS LPY,LPF, LQ2,LP8 and LPA
i never have GPS issue on Google map/Sygic
i have tha sema problem 2
do u find any solution ?
Try reflash your stock ROM. I never had this issue - now on stock LQ3 and everything OK.
Possible Fix
Hi guys,
I've been experiencing the same problem you are describing for about 2 months now since I flashed the official 4.0.4 ICS o my GT-7000.
About an hour ago I solved the GPS problem and this was how:
1-I was on a Wifi network
2-All GPS and other sensors were ON
3- Went into Maps for about a minute without a GPS fix.
4-While on Maps and the GPS icon flashing on the notificatio bar I rebooted (did this by only holding the power button and hit reboot).
5-When it rebooted and the "mounting SD" notification came up I went into Maps.
6-It got GPS fix right away.
Hope it helps because I was desperate cause nothing worked for me! And this solved it in 2 minutes!.

I have the exact same problem as you, the gps icon flashes in the status bar and then dissappears...and is back...and dissappears in intervals of about a second. I've flashed stock ROM, wiped a-GPS data, used fasterfix. And have no idea what's wrong, and only know it 'sort of' happened around the time I tried CM10, but, really can't pinpoint the exact moment, just don't know.
My GPS is totally useless now
Any ideas?
So I installed a few different stock Kitkat roms on my note 3 (Australian version). At some stage I realised that the gps wasnt working by not getting a singal. I've gone and done many fresh installs with odin of different stock roms and still can't get it to work.
I've used gps status and after fixing a-gps data it will sometimes show many satellites on the horizon but with a very weak signals. If it does finally get a signal after a reboot it won't work again.
I've manually replaced the gps config file and it doesn't help. Also when I use an AOSP rom the gps works perfectly, locks fast and accuracy good.
Any ideas/suggestions on how to get the gps working again will be appreciated!
Not sure to be honest but I have two Notes here with different antennas (our whatever it is that sits on top of the GPS chip), running different Roms but they both seem to get into a state where they suddenly lose the signal, from 10 Satellites or so down to none, then reset GPS and eventually get it going again......could take quite some time or require reboots.
I find that X-Note (non stock kernel!) is much better but did not completely eliminate the issue.
I've rooted one of the phones so I can't return that for warranty and knowing Samsung Australia they would do nothing to help me anyway.
I'm pretty sure that ALL Notes have the issue but it seems to be random and only triggered after some time off operation.....so if you're not running GPS all the time you may not notice.

Someone has posted a gps fix zip. Which is supposed to work. I was afraid I might break something so didn't try it. I installed bob cat rom hoping that would fix it. but it didn't. Mine is international lte. So it isn't supposed to have the gps problem. Knox has tripped over so I am out of warranty. As the aosp rom works go back to that. Or just go from rom to rom till you have what you want which has gps working. I think x rom has working gps but not sure yet. Will know once installed. And i will find that gpsfix zip and install that.

That GPS fix zip is for 4.3 ONLY and will create a boot loop on 4.4.2.

Thanks, wouldn't happen to have a list of n9005 4.4.2 roms with gps fix installed would you? I think thousands of people would happily void their warranty to get it. That is the only reason I installed another rom and voided mine.
But it didn't fix the gps neither do the gps status etcetera.

Sorry but I don't. I think ALL 4.4.2 have that bug, at least all the ones I looked at. I don't know whether this is an Australian thing but it's very strange.
When it gets 'confused' the map that usually shows the satellites in view (or that should be in view) has ALL of them in one spot at the top end of the circle. A clear AGPS data usually fixes this but it sure looks like a software bug. I assume Samsung will eventually fix this. It ONLY happens certain times of the day. yesterday it did not happen before 14:30 but when it did, it did so on both Note 3 I have access to.

For me in australia with lte version it is a case of never getting enough satelites to get a fix and losing soon after. While my i9305 and my wife's n7100 both work fine all the time. So I cannot see it as just an at and t or verizon usa problem. My phone is with optus who updated the firmware as soon as I turned it on. But as I wrote no go so tried sweet, x, omega, bobcat stuck with bobcat 8 more success with gps on 8 than 9. Hopefully 10 will be more like 8. Perhaps 4.4.3 has a fix..
cheers
Curious, there seems to be a multitude of Australians with this issue..
You're going to have trouble aquiring a GPS lock these few days everywhere though. There has been a CME on 04/06/2014 (international dating) that hit Earth at 07/06/2014 and sparked a G2 geomagnetic storm. It plays havoc on all radiosignals, including GPS. It'll be bothersome for another week or two, most likely.
Gps experience with stock rom
Here is my experience in Without rooted complete stock ROM GPS Locking Time.:good:
Bought SM-N 9005 in December(U.A.E)- Jelly Bean- GPS Lock within 4 to 5 Seconds without any Help of Internet.
January Flashed Kitkat Poland (XEO) GPS Lock within 60 seconds without Internet, with Internet 30 to 40 Seconds,:crying:
April Flashed UK (BTU) GPS Lock timing same as Poland.:crying:
May Flashed U.A.E version again GPS LOCK WITHIN 4 to 5 Seconds without any Help of Internet.:good:
I am from U.A.E my question is GPS has anything to do with region? I mean GPS software is inside CSC or ROM or Kernel????
Try entering root folder and open up etc>gps.conf using text editor and change LPP_PROFILE to 3 instead of 0.
sama with me. i alteady try many rom include stock ne4 firmware. cannot lock the gps signal. felling sad.

Hi everyone,
Sorry to bother with that, but i have an issue with my Galaxy Note 3 LTE, Cyanogen 11 M8.
Fresh install, everything wiped.
It seems that the GPS is fully down... GPS Status is unable to see or lock anything, Navigation freeze etc....
Maps is able to find my position, but only with network enabled.... if i disabled it... it is lost
In GPS Status, app stay "looking for GPS localization", and when a start an app that need the gps, the Gps Status appears a few second, with an "X".
I neved had this kind of issue, and i didn't find any clues over Internet (but i've seen people with the same issue)
I'm almost sure it was working in M7... i didn't use the gps since i upgrade the phone.
So, has anyone an idea about my problem ?
Many thanks
I had the same issue with the same configuration...
For me, it had to do with the 3G phone tower which appears not to be updated to certain parameters...
This happened when I was in a tiny village of the South West of the UK...
I then try the GPS in other cities, 50 miles away, and everything went back to normal...
I live in London, and travel abroad monthly; and no issues there also...
I would suggest to try your GPS in an other area...

Thanks,
I also live in a small city in France, i hope your solution will also work for me !
I will try tomorrow, in a "bigger city"
Unfortunately... i took my car and drive to be closer of a big city... no success.
It seams that the GPS is down... 'cause i launch some apps that give the signal received by the phone... and it appears that received absolutly nothing. (0, nada, the void)
I've tried to revert to M7 : no GPS at all.
Tried some gps.conf found on the forum : nothing.
It start to scare me, i hope the GPS is not "broken" (could i have killed the GPS antenna ?)
Anyway, i'm still looking for any clues or a way to check the GPS log.
Thanks

GPS connect has NOTHING to do with the SIZE of the city the only factor SHOULD be view of clear SKY.
I was going to say that GPS only works when you're outdoors. Trying to get a signal wont work when in your home etc
For info :
My GPS problem seems to be related to Android 4.4.4.
There's many people complaining that the GPS became innacurate or simply unavailable with this version.
And, it seems that the Cyanogen team has issues making the GPS work for Cyanogen 11 M9 (it's on the wiki).
Currently, there's no fix available. (for some people, rewrinting all APN worked, even if it's not related to GPS, etc etc etc... there's many solution available, but not working for everyone.)
Same issue here, prognosis for it should be posted here, Thx.
Hi Everyone,
If there's people following this thread, i'm still looking for a solution...
Here's all the thing i've tried, without success :
- Reinstall / change Modem
- Back to stock rom (GPS still not working)
- Format /system and reinstall
- Re-Partition
- NV Rebuild
Each time, it's the same thing : i start GPS Status, and i get the icon with the cross, and nothing happen.

Sometimes with Odin, sometimes with Clockwork... don't remember exactly
Each time, i was never able to get a GPS signal.
If you ODIN'd back to stock and GPS is still down on stock ROM, then you probably have a hardware issue. There is a GPS fix thread on the forum with pics of the hardware breakdown.
Hi everyone,
I can't explain what happened... but my GPS is back. hallelujah !
I saw this morning that the Cyanogen 11 M10 for the hlte (Galaxy Note 3) was available.
I update the Cyanogen i had installed (M9)... and test GPS right after that... nothing.
And then, i tested it tonight, the satellite dish appeared with the cross... but i was able to "touch" it with my finger : And then the icon dissapeared, and the new icon with the sattelite dish and the wave appeared and i saw GPS Signal !
I got a lock after a few sec.
Sorry guys, i don't have any answer about what happened, and how tthe GPS got back to work.
But anyway, thanks for the help !

Dang!!! I Wanted to sound smart. Lol. Jk, glad its working.
Hi guys
Bought this used note 3 recently. Some weeks after I bought it I noticed that my GPS was not positioning at all while I was driving, so I searched a lot and found that this model has a lot of gps problems. Since I got the cellphone with lolipop 5.0, I dont know if this issue is software or hardware related.
The wierd part is, using gps test, my device can see 30 satelites but wont use any one of them. I tried to get a fix for one hour and wont get it. I did this in an open space. I opened up my device, straighten the pins, checked the flex, and its everything ok in that department. Flashed stock rom again, flashed a custom rom, and still nothing. flashed back to stock and rebuilt the nv file, nohing... I'm cluess on what can be, since I tried anything. A-GPS is working since I get a positioning when I load google maps. (while using the gps while I drive, I cant get any fix)
I will post a print screen of gps test later since I have to go to work.
PS: Sorry for my bad english
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I have a totally strange behavior with my GPS. I'm using CM 13 right now and tried it with the official CM 12.1 and the stock ROM, all with the same behavior. Which I figured out so far is that the GPS need around 5 Minutes to get a lock. The only solution I found so far is using GPS Locker from the play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.silentlexx.gpslock). With this app I'm able to get a lock within 10 seconds or faster. But I like my phone as clean as possible and so I want to fix the GPS without the need of an app. Hopefully someone of you could give me an advice how to fix that.
That are the solutions I tried already:
- Flash the stock ROM, wait until I get a GPS lock and flash a custom ROM
- Download several GPS Fix Apps to reset the agps data
- Modified the gps.conf file
- Open the device to check if the antenna cable is connected probably
Flash the stock ROM, wait until I get a GPS lock and flash a custom ROM
Does nothing as you have over written the system .
GPS is a kernel effect .
agps Patch from xda/derekgordon may be worth trying .
Thanks for your response. I got some time to give it a try but it didn't helped. It seems that Google maps doesn't work without an app that locks the GPS. Gps testing apps are working great only maps seems not able to find the right position by itself. Any other ideas someone?

fyi when I was on KitKat my gps locked quick and worked great. Since going to lollipop, I cannot use my gps as it constantly drops. So frustrating so I have tried other apps to see if I could clear the data/reset but none have worked. I was going to flash back to KitKat today but I am going to try GPS Locker as you have provided and see.. if not going back to 4.3...
ok so long update. What a PITA... I got back on KitKat 4.4.4 and gps seemed like it was a go.. but then died on my 65 mile drive to work. bout half way.
