Man, does anything with on your phone? Seeing all your posts it doesn't look like it. Beam is a Rom issue.

So, I think it was at some Google show featuring Jelly Bean where they took a JB phone and touched screens with a JB tablet and it transferred data between them. I have a Galaxy Nexus and the N7 and tried making them kiss so much they requested a private room, but I can't figure out how to do that data share between them.
Anyone know what I'm talking about and how to do it?

I had the same problem trying to get the NFC chips to line up or something. I ended up flipping my gnex upside down when they were back to back before I could beam something over.

It's my understanding that it only works with Google apps right now. To get it working make sure both NFC and Android Beam are turned on. After that open up something like the stock gallery or chrome, put both devices back to back and then tap the screen of the phone sending the data. I've never really been able to get it to work with my N7, but it works really well with my Galaxy S III and my brother's S II.

I believe you are talking about NFC? make sure you have it enabled. it is in settings, under wireless&networks, tap "more" and you can enable NFC.
Line up the Gnex battery to the "Nexus" on the back of the tablet in any app like browser, gallery, contacts, etc and it should say touch to beam when they are in range. Worked fine between both my Nexus(I run mwalts stock rooted roms)and S3 with the 7.

Sweet, it worked! I had to move the phone around on the back of the N7. Eventually it made a noise and I was able to beam.
Thanks for the help guys!

So I received my Nexus 10 Today and have been playing with it for about an hour and a much as I love it, I have a weird issue.
When I try to send something, a picture or contact for example, by NFC, it opens the play store and fails to receive!
Any ideas?

The phone I am sending from is an S3.
The Nexus will receive webpages and YouTube links but when I send a picture, it opens up the play app store.
Confused!!

From settings turn off the S3 / Samsungs own version of photo sharing and turn on the standard android version. Sorry I can't remember exact names but I know the Samsung/Android versions of NFC Direct are different.

S-beam I think
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Yep, S-Beam uses wifi direct, while standard NFC is Bluetooth.
I have tried that.
Unfortunately the S3 gives me the message "S Beam is off. Turn on S Beam and try again". The Nexus still opens up the play store!

I have just found a link on another site that says that because the S3 uses Wi-Fi direct and standard Android uses Bluetooth, it can cause a major headache! Does anyone know any way to permanently disable the S3 S Beam?

On my S3 I have the option to disable S Bean. Enable NFC and enable Android Beam. I would imagine this would enable it to work. Will have my Nexus 10 today but for now I'm just advising without any experience.

I have the options to turn S Beam on or off as well as Android Beam. Unfortunately it doesn't work in any mode.

Where are the NFC chips located on the device? I am having trouble locating them.

Has anybody tried to use the NFC feature? I tried to use it with a galaxy nexus and an S3 and no luck...this is a feature I was really looking forward to

You have to activate it. Turn NFC on in settings >>more >>NFC.

I was just doing it today at Thanksgiving dinner with 2 different Galaxy S3 phones. It works really well.
Depends what your trying to send. I tried sending a picture using beam from my note 2 to my nexus 4 and it didn't work, it did using drop box. I'm assuming it had to do with the two gallery apps not being the same.
It is activated. And I tried sending photos too but it didn't work. I sent a YouTube video though. Its all I could send

sending pics only work on Jellybean. If the other device was still ICS it won't go. I tried to send a pic to my GF's Skyrocket and it wouldn't go. sent one to my sister's gNex with Jellybean and it went just fine.

It's because they don't use the same gallery app.

Not true. Something wrong on your end. I sent a pic from my nexus 4 to note 2 today. Used NFC and gallery open only on nexus 4.

No it isn't. The Gallery app doesn't have anything to do with it.
When you share a picture over beam on a stock Jelly Bean device the receiving device understands that the content to be transferred is a picture and opens a Bluetooth serial connection to the sending device. The file is then transferred over Bluetooth.
Samsung has enhanced this process starting with the S3 (S-Beam) to use Wifi-Direct for much faster transfers. However they invented their own way of doing things (as they often do). Google stated they have plans to migrate to Wifi Direct as well in a later release once the standards flush out (it didn't make it into 4.1 though and doesn't appear to have made it in to 4.2).
The issue from the Note 2 to the N4 is likely a mismatch in that the Note 2 is going to try to use S-Beam (which doesn't work with non Samsung Touchwiz devices) and the N4 is still looking to leverage Bluetooth tunneling.
Going the other way (N4 - Note 2) should work assuming it's running Jelly Bean.
that guy right there^^^^ Nailed it!

On my nexus 4 I have the attached options.
On my girlfriend's nexus 4 she just has three options: scene options, store location and picture size.
I cannot figure out what I did on my phone so I could do the same on my girlfriends nexus 4. Any ideas?
thanks.
I have the latest aokp nightly, franco m3. She also has those flashed too.
What android version exactly?

All I managed to do is press and hold both of the volume keys and then let go to burst shoot 2 pictures since any of the volume keys are triggers.
What have you done before discovering this?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
It's 4.2.2.
I upgraded aokp but then again I did on my gfs phone and didn't see it on here

GAPPS unofficial flashes and AOKP. But i do them on both devices.
I use a certain unofficial gapps package by BANKs of the theme section but I have flashed on both phones. Only mine has it. I also backed up the camera and data with titanium. This leads me to believe i'm missing some setting or something.
Just wanted to add. I tried to backup the camera app and data from my nexus 4 with titanium and then restore it on the other nexus 4 to no avail. Does anyone know what else I would need to backup and restore to transfer over the camera settings in the main post?
thanks.

Did you try backing up Gallery to see if it works?, Gallery has a linked activity which is camera.

Were both phones bought together? or one is newer and one is older? I saw same thing when I installed same gapps file on s2 and it came with tonnes option in camera app but nothing on my nexus 4 app. I think older nexus 4's camera hardware doesn't support those software features may be?

I should be supported since the SGS3 does support it while the Nexus 4 is newer hardware and software wise.

I have a white nexus 4 and hers is black. She bought hers a week after I did actually.
I also backed up gallery data and restored on hers and that didn't work either. Would suck if it's a hardware thing.

stock camera has those 3 options. custom roms like slimbean have modified cameras that have more options like ISO among other options.
That's the cyanogenmod camera (not focal). I'm a big fan of that one. It takes pictures much quicker than the stock camera. The only issue though is that flash doesn't work unless you manually tap to focus before taking the picture.
Oh thank you. Do you, or anyone, have the app package? I assume since its working on my aokp setup, that it's possible. Or what file to transfer over from my phone to my girlfriend's? Like I said, I tried the gallery and camera apps already.
I will say that I did cyanogen mod at one point but have factory set numerous times since then.

Hi and sorry if this has already been posted before or if this is in the wrong section but this has been annoying me a lot lately. I have a Nexus 4 and a Nexus 7 along with a Galaxy Note 2. When I use NFC between my N7 and Note 2, they work perfectly without any issues what soever. But when I try and use NFC on my N4 with either my N7 or Note, nothing happens. Nothing at all. The N4 doesn't read those devices and they don't read it. Can anyone help me out with this?
Bumping this....
