[Q] Go back to stock after rooting NAE OTA? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Obviously having the official NAE Tar would be the best method, but since that hasn't come out yet, what is the best method for going back to complete NAE stock?
I took the OTA, and have since rooted and flashed custom recovery, been jumping around on some different ROMS. In the event that I would want to sell my GS4 and have it bare bones stock, what's the best method? Or is there even a method?
Flash stock recovery? Reflash the OTA?

There isn't one yet, until the NAE stock tar file is available. Hopefully soon.

[Q] Flashing ROMS upgrade/downgrade

I just got a S4, and am currently running rooted stock, and already have a nandroid created. I want to try out some different ROMS...I've noticed that there are some issues with MF9 and MJA.
1. Does anyone know if TriangleAway works with MF9 and MJA?
2. How hard would it be to go back to my rooted stock if something goes wrong
3. Is it any harder to unroot after upgrading?
Triangle away does work with MF9, make sure you are on the stock recovery to use it. MF9 is the most stable of the builds. MJA is great for me but some have had problems. If you do the upgrade to MJA and the bootloader is upgraded to the MJA bootloader than you will not be able to downgrade your bootloader. People have successfully installed 4.2.2 roms and AOSP roms once upgraded to MJA which is 4.3 but you have to make sure you know what you are doing before you screw around with it. Since there is not a full tar file for MJA if you soft brick your phone there isn't an easy odin fix to get back up. It is a much more complicated procedure so be careful.

Thanks cruise...so I take it any 4.3 ROMS that are out are using the MJA (Knox) bootloader?

MJA update without bootloader

I am trying to decide whether or not it is worth the effort to update to MJA without updating the bootloader per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277480. I am now running 4.2.2 pretty much stock with root. I would like to run the same way on MJA, but don't want to have the wifi problem and would like the option of running stock kernel. I have not been able to find what is causing the wifi problem. Are people taking the OTA experiencing the wifi problem? If I were to install the update as described in the link above without the KT kernel, what is the difference between that and the OTA, other than the bootloader? Why would it experience the wifi problem and not the OTA?
From what I have read you should be fine. I am trying to make the same decision. I'm basically stock mf9 rooted and tweaked.
My understanding is that we could Odin the mja with root and be like we are currently with all the new goodness. The disadvantage, if it is one, is that we could not go back to a mf9 rom due to now having the mja bootloader. I am trying to wait for one of these amazing devs to get a tar or zip together that would be a one flash setup allowing us have all of the new stuff minus the mja bootloader. I don't think I would ever go backwards but I don't want to destroy that option. I probably won't be able to wait much longer and wind up jumping through all the hoops to get the mja modem, 4.3, and keep the mf9 bootloader.
I am in no way a developer and please someone correct me if I am mistaken. I hope this helps you in some way.

I just did what you're thinking about doing and my experience has been great. I have the full MJA with out the bootloader. The phone runs stable and fast. No Wifi issues, LTE works, and clear phone calls.
It was more time-consuming than flashing a tar but I'm liking MJA a lot right now.

The KT kernel with the wifi fix. I didn't mess with the KTweaker settings.
I'm currently running MDC rooted stock with stock kernal. if i update using the thread posted by the OP. Will i be using MJA or MF9 bootloader...i've read throught the instructions and don't see anything about flashing the MF9 bootloader, or would that be the step which removes Knox

Before I started on the guide, I was on stock, rooted MF9. After the guide, I was MJA everything except the bootloader, which is MF9. As a result, Knox isn't triggered.
Since you're currently on MDC, perhaps you should start by flashing the OEM MF9 tar first through PC Odin.

Isis stopped working... Need to dirty flash mje rom

What's the best way for me to dirty flash the stock rom and keep my root? I've searched but not sure what to flash.
Guess it depends what version your on and what model phone. Retail, if your already on current firmware Beans has a rooted mje rom posted that is stock rooted. If your not on current firmware best route is to Odin mje full tar and re root with Kingo . If you dirty flash a stock rooted rom on old firmware I think you will end up having wifi issues.

MJ7 to MJE help

Hi, already rooted, and have been running cleanrom on my MJ7 N3 for awhile now, and I see that many of the newer roms require MJE.
What would be the easist way to update to MJE, and could I just flash a MJE rom anyways?
(also I have deleted the stock rom for more space, worst case I'll odin back to stock, just wondering if there is a faster way than going back to stock, updating, then installing another custom rom.)

You CAN flash MJE roms but you'll likely have wifi and signal issues. SOme have done it and worked around the issues.
Use Odin to flash MJE tar is best way to get to MJE. If Kingo is still slow, use Vroot.
For any help or links, check Note 3 link in my sig

Using paid version of SuperSU 1.93, (updated binaries) will it survive OTA? from MJ7 to MJE?

The results are kinda split on this. Some have said they survived OTA and many have said they lost root and had to Odin MJE anyway.
I usually tell folks to just Odin MJE and that way you only have to flash MJE ONCE

SGH-i337 OC3 Bootloader, what options to I have for custom recovery/root?

I have an SGH-i337 and had an MDL bootloader before moving to Cyanogenmod and then moved on to OC3 bootloader (stock Android 5.0.1). With OC3 bootloader, I did some google search but couldn't find a way to get a custom bootloader as well as root so I can flash into another ROM (the last time I did any unlocking, flashing, and rooting was ~ 2 years ago and methods/tools have changed so I'm not sure what my best options are right now). I read that TWRP doesn't work for newer bootloaders such as OC3 because loki is patched. Any advice/guidance will be much appreciated.
Thank you!
Safestrap is going to be your only option I believe
On MDL, the boot loader could be by-passed with loki, but everything since MDL, including OC3 has a locked bootloader and you are limited to stock kernel. Safestrap allows custom roms that are touchwiz based but no AOSP type roms. Also safestrap only works on 4.4.4 and below, not on 5.0.1. No root method has been discovered or posted for stock 5.0.1, but there is a keeproot upgrade method, so if you want to root, flash back to nb1, and then use the keeproot method.

So even if I flash back to nb1, I can only root it and not be able to flash to either Google Edition or Cyanogenmod (both if which are my ideal ROMs)? Could I not flash back to MDL, unlock the bootloader + root it, then flash to either of these two ROMs?
No now they have nc1 flash for 5.0.1 look at the i337 thread in xda
So I am essentially stuck with the stock AT&T Touchwiz ROM forever unless something like SafeStrap is available for OC3 bootloader? I'd do anything for being able to flash to Cyanogenmod or Google Play Edition--can't believe I flashed to an updated stock ROM by accident and now I lose all ability to flash to a custom ROM...

Yeah, it sucks and I feel your pain. But you are essentially correct. If you want to stay on Lollipop, then that's pretty much it.
You could flash back to nb1, root and install Safestrap, update to nj4, or install a custom TW based rom on 4.4.4.
You could flash back to nb1, root and use the keeproot method back to OC3, and then at least you'd have rooted Lollipop.

Thanks for the clarification--I'll check periodically to see if anything is available for OC3/NB1.
The only GPE ROM I've seen work on this phone is the dandvh 4.4.4 one and even then a few things were buggy. Though I enjoyed it.
iB4stid posted goldeneye v53 which is 5.0.1 for our phone which is pre-rooted and deodexed . It's still TouchWiz based, but with it being pre-rooted and deodexed you can use arter97's workaround and get Xposed working!
And lastly, you can use safestrap while on OC3, You just have to flash an Nj4 kernel in Odin, boot to safestrap, perform your actions, and then flash OC3 kernel back so lollipop will boot.
There are instructions for it on here somewhere. I would check in the "general" section. Sorry for not linking it, I'm on mobile.
Trying to use the keeproot method to get from NB1 (rooted) to OC3 (rooted). Problem is I can flash the ROM, but i need to Odin the OC3 bootloader after the ROM is flashed but I cannot find the OC3 bootloader for the life of me, I can only find the newer OK2 bootloader. Please help! Trying to at least get to Goldeneye on my I337!!
Don't tell me to just use the OK2 ROM and bootloader because when I used that to upgrade to Goldeneye I actually lost root access and had to go all the way back to NB1 and that's where I am now. Can I use OC3 Rom with OK2 bootloader??? God it seems like no one cares about I337s, the step-by-step guides are all over the place and quite hard to follow but I know where I'm getting tripped up. Please help!
