Hi guys, im from latin america and i own a d805 LG G2, i have rooted my phone but i havent installed a custom recovery or a custom rom or anything, just rooted and uninstalled a few apps that came with the carrier. My question is, when the update shows up, it will brick my device because it is rooted? Or do i only lose root acces? I am a little confused at that, sorry for my english, thanks.

You can't get ota updates if your rooted. It'll say device has been modified. If you really want the update you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 and after you'll have to re-root again

Thats for LG G2? And all these is necessary? Or can i just factory reset in the stock recovery to erase the root and get the apos again? Or it wont change anything? Thanks

you need to go back to stock rom in order for OTA to work properly

A factory reset won't erase root. A better way of restoring would probably be this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476 Its still pretty detailed but those are your only options. Its like removing a tattoo
Is his device different from ATT Version? I've got ATT D800. Was on D80010o. Rooted. Updated to KitKat D80020c and Root remained. Maybe non-ATT devices are different though.

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but if I root my Galaxy Note 3 (N9005, Vodafone Australia), will it still get OTA updates?
I ask because I used to have a HTC Desire HD, and after rooting and installing Cyanogenmod, I tried to put the Nandroid backup of the stock rom back on, which was fine but for some reason wouldn't install the OTA updates. It would tell me there was an update and download it, but would fail to install.
Thanks!

If it does install you will loose root... But I believe if the system is found to be custom in any way it will fail on install of OTA or will actually tell you that the phone has been modified and no updates available for you

Thanks for the reply. Just out of curiosity about the HTC Desire HD that has since been given to a less tech-savvy relative, is there a way to unroot so the OTA update will work??
I rooted my N3 3 days after buying and then tried to get an OTA update. It didn't download first, as my phone was set to custom. After using Wanam's setting to "reset" the custom status, I could download the OTA update but couldn't install it.
Basically, with root you can still check if there's an official update available, but you can't install.

Anyone know how it actually tells if the phone has been rooted? Surely there's a way to reset it to unrooted/non-custom state so OTA updates work again...

The boot loader and the os itself scan for certain things such as modified kernel/recovery or installation of busy box.
The Samsung's aren't so bad, you can just flash back the stock rom and factory reset to start getting ota updates again. On htc phones you have to unlock the boot loader to root and its a one way process. Once unlocked you can never get ota updates again.

i have the same problem here, i would like to update MK2 but i cant.
used wanam exposed for fake > failed @ installation.
do i have to unroot or factory reset for update?
i dont want to install a cwm at the moment.
thx
Once you have rooted, the system partition has been modified so Samsung doesnot allow you to OTA update. It checks MD5hash for the consistency. Factory reset doesn't help because it only format userdata partition.
If you r rooted, better go to sammobile.com, download the latest firmware version, copy it to sdcard and flash via Mobile Odin Pro. This way you can keep the old bootloader so you can fallback (downgrade) to the older firmware later.
Thank you.
what is when i tripped the knox count?
Its 0x1 now. I was on new bootloader before.

I need to keep Knox at 0x0.
There must be a way of updating.
A couple of people have mentioned downloading from SamMobile and flashing back to stock. If I do this, what happens to twrp?
If twrp stays, I don't want it conflicting with a non-rooted phone (due to flashing stock) and being bricked
U can get upgrade with kiss not OTA but u must install wanamp exposed n change system into official. Its work on rooted stock rom.

LG pc suite will install the latest available rom for your device which will be kitkat as soon as it is available for you. If it says that you have the latest installed, then use 'restore upgrade errors option.' After this it will probably bootloop but, perform a factory reset and everything will then be sorted.

Hi Guys, I have read some topics about downgrading, but im not fully understanding if this is only for people who is already rooted or if this will work for a non rooted device. In my case i have an At&t Lg G2 not rooted with 4.4.2 kitkat and wanted to revert to 4.2 so i can root and then flash a rooted stock 4.4.2 kitkat. Is it possible to do that, even if i was never rooted? I do understand there's no root for kitkat as of now.
Thanks guys.
Hello
When i enter in download mode in my g2 802, it says rooted but is not.... i have the stock 4.4.2, and i tried whit iroot and it instal super user but dont work dont have the binary... i dont understand wy it says rooted if is not? Have someone face the same problem? I would like to have root but i dont see any stock firmware 4.2.2, there are only 4.4.2 and i read is not possible yet make root in this.

The rooted flag didn't clear when you updated to 4.4.2. There isn't root for kitkat. There probably won't be any time soon so if you want it back find one of the threads explaining how to downgrade and get root properly on kitkat. It

I've noticed this several times. It seems that the red ROOTED text only appears when you root the stock rom, or when you flash a .kdz format rom manually (rooted or not). I am currently running a Germany open rom on my international G2 which is not rooted. Yet still I see the red ROOTED text in download mode. Right now I'm using the firmware recovery option in the official LG Mobile Support Tool to recover to the international stock rom. I hope this is the KitKat rom but I'm not shure...
Maybe you should try to revert to the stock rom downloaded by the LG Mobile Support Tool, and hope It's the KitKat version. If not, maybe use the stock 4.2 and wait for the official release for your specific country.

The download was complete and my phone was restored to stock. It was a suprise that it actually is the KitKat update...
Unfortunately I also still have the red ROOTED text in download mode, while the rom is clean and official. I am sure the thing I said in my previous post applies to Android 4.2 as restoring the same way before KitKat changed the text to UNROOTED in grey. Maybe LG released an update so that once you root or flash a custom rom the rootchecker permanently states ROOTED. Maybe not, could also be some kind of bug in the early KitKat releases.
In your case you would probably end up having a completely stock rom but still having the ROOTED text just like me. I'd say its not worth your time and having to restore all your data and apps, but that's up to you...

I guess if you flash 10f or something the rooted label will be gone. I have read it in somewhere. But idk how can we update our phones to kitkat with no rooted notification
Yesterday I did "Update bootloader" through LG Mobile Support Tool. After that my D802 shows "unrooted".

The V10f version is Android 4.2.2. It's true that when you flash this version there will be no ROOTED notification.
I'll try to update my boot loader as mentioned in the post above this weekend.

Yeah, sorry, that's called "Upgrade recovery" in "Options menu". It seems that it reflashes the ROM and sets root checker to unrooted.
You should wipe and fastory reset before doing upgrade with lg mobile support tool
Reset when you are on custom recovery and after reseted do not power on the phone
Let go to download mode and do the update

Unroot via SuperSU or go back to stock using the "How to get back to Stock GUIDE". The latter is preferred.
