help. I updated my galaxy sph-L720 s4 the official 4.4 kik kat. note that I did not like this version and decided I had to take it back 4.3 mk2. to flash it with odin I get fail. anyone can help me how to return it to the mk2 version. Now I get the cell as 2 small computers, or I will be left in download mode and can not do.
The easy answer is that you cannot go back. It is impossible at this point to downgrade through odin. Once on 4.4.2 you can't go to 4.3. Also 4.3 to 4.2.2.

ok. I will explain more clearly. to have my phone already upgraded to 4.4 kik kat, I do not really like this version and I decided to lower it to 4.3 mk2. to try to do that, odin began to fall and then I went in odin fail and then on the phone that I will not start. only when I turn it on I get download mode. now do not know how to get my sph-L720

Ok now I get ya. Unfortunately one you took that 4.4 OTA that's where your phone is now going to stay. You can't downgrade firmwares like we used to. So you're going to have to Odin back 4.4. However once you that you can root it, install a recovery, and then install a stock 4.3 ROM.
That'd be your only way. Your bootloaders stuck on nae now

Yes. Once back on stock 4.4 you can root install custom recovery and THEN flash whatever ROM your heart desires, mk2 if you wanted.
I myself haven't rooted or done anything to an S4 with the nae bootloader like you have, but I'm sure the information is on here for you.

ok. thanks
thanks for all the great info...i wanted to post this in the development forum; however, since im new i need 10 posts to do so
anyway, heres my question: with 4.2.2 there was a hotspot mod for the services.odex and .jar files(mad props to crawrj!!!)....then fgr modded those files to work with 4.3....the difference is in the usb tether. Im using the Cradlepoint MBR1000 router b/c it has USB ports to receive my 3G/4G internet off my Sprint Galaxy S4....i use this combination to supply internet from my phone through the router into my entire home!!!! its been working awesome, but i accidentally accepted the 4.3 upgrade and now the usb tether option under settings/connections/more networks/tethering/usb tethering stopped working with the router ???? i can usb tether to my pc, but when usb tethered to the router, my phone says, "no usb device connected"
i am rooted, have usb debugging checked.....but dont know how to get this up and running again.
granted the naive hotspot technique from qbking77 works great; however, only 2 devices can be wirelessly tethered at any one time - thus the need for the router...and i prefer a usb tether for streaming.
CAN YOU HELP ME? Or at least pass my issue on to someone who can pm me or something....being a nube really sucks..lol..thanks!

Hi all,
My Google-fu is failing me and I'm not certain of the best route to take a Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 (Rooted with Motochopper) up to the new AT&T 4.3 firmware.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide for doing this? Everything I'm reading seems like I'll have to sacrifice my root, flash to stock with Odin, and then wait for AT&T to re-release the OTA update to 4.3. Am I off base?
Motochopper cannot root MF3. We're you able to hold root when you upgraded and are hoping to keep root again?
At the moment yes you will have to sacrifice root. I did. Root keeper does not support android 4.3 and keeping with SuperSU does not work either.

Since you are rooted with a custom recovery you CAN flash 4.3 now without losing root. Just use ShoStock-i MJ9 4.3http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468860
Or VisionX MJ9 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391142
Or Deadly Venom MJ9 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503692
and POSSIBLY a couple other 4.3 Touchwiz firmwares that are found in the Android Development Section
These are all from he International MJ9 firmwares but to me are better than the ATT firmwares for 4.3. The ATT 4.3 removed the Data Toggle completely from the pulldown menu and now you have to go into settings each time to turn it on or off. Plus other changes that are solely LACKING compared to the international firmwares. I have tried two of the above and they are both great and the third from what I have read works great as well. They are all great devs. Try them out and I suggest using the Jeboo 3.0 kernel for best results.

I only gave the advice above because he said he is ROOTED WITH MOTOCHOPPER ON MF3. As we know MF3 cannot be rooted with motochopper. So I was guessing that he rooted while on MDL or MDB with motochopper and used a ROM to upgrade to MF3.
So unless he is/was mistaken with those comments and he meant to say rooted on MF3 with safestrap then I would of told him to look at the safestrap threads.
Hopefully he clears things up with that as I WON'T want to give him Bad Advice.

sorry to bump an old thread, but I wanted to see if anything had changed so I could upgrade from my rooted 4.2.2 I337UCUAMF3 to one of the newer OS versions that are out. You could flash the md3 tar and return it to stock. Then let out update itself. You'll lose root and you'll want to read some of the threads on the general section dealing with mk2 and nb1 before you do so so you know what you're getting in to

I am at the same place in my phone. Were you ever able to update to 4.3 I need to do the same to have access to certain options and apps
I stayed on 4.2.2 rooted with TWRP and never took the MJA/MK2 OTAs, to avoid knox. I've been waiting for KitKat, and I'm ready to take the plunge. I've read through a bunch of threads, and have thoroughly confused myself. I have a few basic questions, so I can determine what my options are:
1) Is it possible to go from MF9 (rooted) to NAE, and retain my data? What happens to the modifications I made to MF9 (hotspot, xposed, etc.)?
2) If the answer to 1 is no, is it reasonable to assume that there will be a flashable NAE rom in the near future, so that I wouldn't have to odin to MK2 before going through the OTA update to NAE?
3) Should I give up on trying to keep my existing bootloader, and just suck it up and take knox? It seems like there's probably enough differences in the rom and modem that the bootloader is probably a necessary evil at this point.
Thanks in advance for your help.
There have been several reports of people whose WiFi and data have worked just fine with the NAE ROM plus older bootloader like MF9. I'd wait until a stock rooted NAE ROM appears so we can try it with the knox-free MF9 bootloader.

Alright. I'm personally looking to update only to official rom and NAE modem, not custom rom. Hoping I can do upgrade instead of clean install but hoping to get root access back or keep it at least.
Ok so i dont think i care about the knox thing anymore.. So with that said i would like to upgrade to 4.4.2 with the stock sprint rom. What is the best way to go about that? There is a one line edit needed to restore full write capability to the sdcard with kit kat. It takes about 10 seconds to accomplish but you must be rooted. There is no way to odin back to 4.3 if you OTA to 4.4.2, like stated earlier, you can install a stock like 4.3 rom but I don't think you need to do that. Search for the sdcard write problem in these forums and edit the platform.xml file and all your stuff will write to the sdcard again.

Can someone help me take my S4 back to 4.3? I got the OTA update for 4.4 yesterday morning and have had nothing but problems. So before I dump Samsung completely for a Moto X or Nexus, can someone help me downgrade from 4.4 back to 4.3 where I had no problems?
Were you totally stock before the OTA? If you still have warranty left, I would bring it in to a Sprint store and *****.
If not, you can try one of 2 things. 1) flash the NAE tar file using odin to see if that fixes your issues or 2) flash the MK2 tar file to bring you back to 4.3

I read that you can't flash back with Odin from 4.4 to 4.3 so I don't know how to do option 2 at this point.

You're correct with not being able to go back to mk2 4.3 via Odin.

Is there some other way of downgrading? What about going back to Cyanogen's full release?
Well that sucks that you can't go back to 4.3
I had the same issues when I updated and was kinda pissed at it to but a factory reset and it been running way better ever since and I'm rooted with xposed installed and no complaints

I went Cyanogen at one point, didn't like it, and flashed back to stock. When the OTA hit I was rooted but had made no changes from stock, not even an uninstall of a Samsung app. I am backing things up now to flash the NAE again, but I want a version without this Knox garbage in it. Is there such thing?
I read that you can't flash back with Odin from 4.4 to 4.3 so I don't know how to do option 2 at this point.

I believe once KNOX Bootloader has been installed, your stuck with it. No going back.
But honestly, if you root 4.4, your gonna void KNOX.

I don't want Knox on my phone at all, it's garbage for me. Are you saying I can't even go Cyanogen at this point?

You can still have all that. KNOX is just the warrantly flag I have KNOX on mine, but I still have rooted and flashed other roms.

Ah OK, I don't care about the warranty, it's out in April anyways... Looks like I need to try Cyanogen again, hopefully it's better this time.

You're saying your bootloader went back to MK2 after this? Didn't think that was possible. I've had nothing but stupid little issues myself after using Odin to flash the phone to NAE. I've done factory resets... Completely wiped the phone in Philz. Tried KToonsez kernel as well and stock NAE just sux! I'll probably just flash Liquid Smooth back on it, was only trying to stick with stock NAE for stability and camera , that phone is my girls and she doesn't have the patience for all the bugs that come with custom Roms lol
Anyways just want to confirm that with you. Thanks

I don't know if that is possible for those of us rocking triband. Obviously we cannot use the Mk2 modem or rom. In any event, I upgraded to 4.4.2 on my new L720T and regretted it, but now I'v" managed to install twrp and rooted it and the rom settled down after a few days. At first, horrible battery use but now its amazing. My battery reads 75 percent after 14 hours and that's quite good enough. The only issue I still face is the SD card thing, but that only seems to apply third party software as I can move files directly from internal to external memory using the stock files app that comes with android.
i dont know about triband. i dont have one and im not going to pretend im a smart dev because thats also not true.. i HAVE ODIN 4.4.2 THEN turned around and ODIN 4.3 due to something i didnt like...im not sure if it changes the bootloader or not, i dont even check. i have only tried this with mk2 to nae.. when i purchesed my device it came with mk2 so i have never tinkerd with the other bootloaders. if you have something other then mk2 id ask a dev befor doing anything. like i said it works for me as long as i flash the modem FIRST that corrisponds to the build. ( mk2 or nae )...and in some cases if the wifi is borked on nae, iv had to flash the modem again after instalation of the rom.. i cant explain why any of this happens....

Lol I know what you mean... Sometimes things just seem to work or they don't.
But that's interesting you can go back to mk2 after being on nae. I figured that was not possible. But if you didn't get any fails in Odin while downgrading that's great. Maybe I'll get ballsy and try this later.

Is there a stock 4.4 Rom out there I can try, preferably one without Knox? Sprint has recommended that I unroot, that they have a tech bulletin where rooted phones have wifi, and other issues.

No that's just what the escalated Tech Support person from Oklahoma City told me.
I also just wiped the cache and did a factory reset and still have the same wifi problem...
i root my gs4 with odin, everything went fine but I wanted to get my gs faster so i downloaded kernel for gs4 and flashed it. mistake here. i didnt check if it supports 4.4.4. it only support devices under 4.3 so.. no wifi. that was the problem i had other than that, all was good. than I downloaded some OTA file for my gs4 and when i tried to flash it with safestrap, it kept said fail. so i thought it's maybe because i already have OS installed... so i wiped system, data and i tried to flash that OTA file, fail again. now im screwd. there is no OS on my gs4. when i trun it on, it vibrates, than reboots and than goes into Odinmode and say something like "nornal boot not possible" in red.
so i spent couple days searching how to get my phone work again but everything i tried didnt work. and for galaxy s4 sgh i337 nj4 version 4.4.4 it even made me think it was made just for me.
i tried kies, failed it told me to do emergency recovery but my phone does not show on list.
can anyone please help me.. Im new to Samsung Galaxy..

You'll have to use the ODIN file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223
Flash that in ODIN, use the rootable version if you want to root it using towelroot.
Besides that, you can't flash any custom kernels on the S4 unless you're on the 4.2.2 MDL bootloader, and there's no way to get back to that from 4.4.
