Can anyone help me please? I've never had an problems upgrading or downgrading my old Galaxy S2. I got a Galaxy S4 last year and it was running perfectly.
A couple of days ago, I was backing my phone up through Kies and it said an update was available. I didn't use Kies to update my phone though as I wanted to back up my data first. I disconnected from the laptop and did an OTA upgrade.
Huge mistake!
Since the upgrade, my phone keeps locking up/freezing. The gallery app freezes constantly. If I try to attach a photo to a Fabecook post, it freezes my phone and in all cases, the only way out is to restart my phone.
This update has left my phone worse than useless. I can't do anything on it without it freezing.
I've tried factory reset quite a few times. I've wiped cache partition a few times. I've taken the SD card out. Nothing works.
I've read that the new bootloader renders it impossible to downgrade.
If I find an official 4.3 Jellybean firmware, will I be able to revert back to Jellybean by flashing it through Odin?
Otherwise, I'm stuck with a phone that no longer works.

If you flashed your 4.3 will activate Knox reading your warranty and your phone will now be invalid
4.4.2 is very good for me
Obviously when you have something wrong

Does this mean I'm stuck on 4.4.2? I really want to go back to 4.3 as that was stable.
Do you know anyway to fix it please? I use my phone constantly for work. I can't use it as it is.

You can go back to 4.3 but you will lose your warranty as I told you
4.3 It is possible with custom kernel or full custom rom

So it's possible to download original 4.3 firmware from Sammobile or somewhere else and flash that? I'm scared of bricking my phone.

If you flash stock ROM by Sammobile or Samsung Updates
you have problems with the modem, Wi Fi,calls
You can avoid these problems as flashing custom kernel

Thank you all.
I think I've fixed the problem without having to downgrade.
First of all I formatted the SD card, I switched my phone off, removed the SD card and restarted it. Then I did a couple of factory resets, turned the phone back off and reinserted the SD card.
I think with it having a complete wipe of everything, it fixed the problems with the phone lagging and freezing constantly.
So far, so good.

Hi All,
I've had a S5 for about 8 months or so. As soon as the root method was available without tripping knox I did this. All has been well up until the past few weeks. For some reason the phone has been slowing down and I really don't know why. I haven't installed anything new on it lately - I've simply just been using it as a phone.
I noticed my RAM consumption on a fresh boot is 1.6GB. Could this be my problem?
I was thinking about doing a factory reset after backing up my call log / sms etc but I'm concerned about the root factor. I'm not sure what will happen to the root if I do a factory reset.
Looking for some friendly advice.
Thanks,

factory reset will not affect root. You will still be rooted
Yes. Do a factory reset + wipe cache and reinstall your applications.
Thanks guys!
Have MJE and had stopped OTAs. Would like to move forward to lollipop on this phone. 2 different questions:
1. Would I be able to install a lollipop ROM from MJE or is it already locked down with no options
2. Phone is in "custom" mode. Can I just reenable OTA updates and let it receive updates OTA without bricking or does the knox need reset first? Not worried about warranty issues.
Please spare the flames, I dont know what I am doing much but can follow instructions and I am just looking for a little help. Dont want to blow my phone out and not be able to do anything with it. Thanks!

Im in the same boat with you. Im still on 4.3/MJE/Stock/Rooted. I rooted with RootMaster when i got the phone over a year ago and disabled OTA updates. Its been an awesome phone but recently been having glitches (screen flickers randomly when on and auto adjust brightness is turned off and google maps cannot find my location, the GPS icon never comes on anymore, other mapping apps still work fine) and ive had to disable my google play services from killing my battery. Also my music has been stuttering on poweramp (not sure if it is just a app issue). Another thing Ive noticed is when i restart my phone its been doing a double bootloop, it gets to the launcher screen then immediatly reboots, but then fully boots up the second time.
Any suggestions anyone? I want to keep root and dont mind stock. Go launcher gives me most of the customization i need, really only need root for AdAway (which doesnt work so well anymore), Gemini App Manager- so i can keep certain apps from startup upon boot, SD speed increase (which im not really sure actually does anything), and of coarse TITANIUM.
Do i need to do an ODIN flash or TWRP or CWM? Can i just hit the factory reset and keep my root? Maybe flash up to 4.4.2? I keep seeing that 4.4.4 and higher cant be rooted unless im mistaken.
Any direction from someone knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated.
So this is my sad story..
I bought a second hand Samsung S4 (i337M Telcel) Unlocked, the day i got it, i tested in front of the seller everything was nice and smooth.. So i payed..
I was very excited and i proceed to make the Root proccess, at beginning i was having issues with the drivers and Odin, then i was able to fix it..
Anyways long story short i ended up with the ROOT, CYANOGENMOD CM11, and PHILZ 6.. The first day was working fine my cellphone.. (I must say i rooted in my life at least 4 devices even an S4 i9500 all of then with success and not a single problem.. Using them form months and even gears.. The latest was a Moto E..)
Ok so the i337M was working good since the first morning with the root, but in the afternoon it just turned off one time.. Was weird but i didnt pay much atention..
The second day i was listening music and suddenly it turned off, and since then the cellphone is not able to keep on for more than 10min..
Some times i can load the complete OS and ofter 2 min it turn off sometimes at the Samsung S4 logo turn off something i must say is that the Device every single time i turn it on, on the Samsung S4 screen says "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" in red letters, some people say it happens when the root process is not made correctly some says it normal because its rooted..
I already installed from Odin the Stock ROM from SamMobile, and the problem is exactly the same.. A friend of mine told me it could be the Logic Card AKA Motherboard.. But i want to believe its just a software problem.. Cuz' before i rooted cellphone was working..
- Download mode: Works like a charm not a single problem and basically its the only way i keep trying different options to install on the phone..
- Discovery mode: With CWM sometimes works good, sometimes it just turn off, with Philz runs good not turning off or something and its how i was able to wipe data, cache, dalvik, factory reset to the cellphone..
Im thinking in starting over like pretending i didnt do anything to the cellphone, try again the root, the rom, the PHILZ (dont know how to call it).. and hope for the best..
Any advice or reliable links where i can download the correct files for my S4 i337M.. You are basically the last reliable source i have to fix my S4 if you give up with me, then i must admit my cellphone has passed away ..
Hope you can help me thanks in advance and have an excellent day!!:good:
The first troubleshooting step (to determine if the issue is hardware or firmware related) is to flash back to stock with Odin. Since you have completed this step and find that the problem is still present, this suggests that it is a hardware problem.
I have seen a custom kernel cause sleep of death, which makes the phone appear to have turned off. But in those cases, flashing the stock kernel fixed the problem.
Perhaps you should see if you can return the phone to the seller for a full refund.

Thanks for your reply.. I still dont know how but with Philz recovery, i was able to make a full wipe, i mean it deletes everything every single folder previously made was erased, and i can tell you that because i have a folder called ROOM where i places my ROM, Kernel, etc.. So i can flash them in discovery..
So i erased everything and then proceeded to install via Odin the Stock Rom and guess what it works like a charm, not a single problem.. So, so far the cellphone is ok.. I tested for two hrs.. Now i tried to install a custom ROM and its doesnt load from the Samsung S4 screen jaja... But im still having acces to discovery and download mode so thats ok..
Just two advices.. Never ever download files from Youtube ****y links.. Always go to the source.. Youtubers are assholes.. Real help and information comes from real people that knows what they are talking about like this forum and also updated and real ROM's come from the main source not Mega o Linkbucks...
Other advice embrace your self to do it.. Study every single question you have in Android, from KERNEL to ROM and ROOT.. Isn't that difficult..
One more question, Which ROM with Lollipop would you suggest to install i have the i337M?

May I make a suggestion? Now that you have the phone working, can you possibly just use it for a week without doing anything to it? Don't try to root it or do anything other than text, make phone calls, and install a few programs. This will establish a baseline of behavior for your device, so you'll be able to tell when its behavior is out of the ordinary.
I understand your desire to make it your own. I got my S4 brand new from AT&T and said that I would wait at least a month before rooting it or changing roms, in case there was a problem and needed to return it. I had good intentions, but I couldn't stand it anymore and rooted it after only 3 days! It will take a lot of patience, but you really need to use it for more than a few hours to make sure that the hardware is okay.
I agree take baby steps, week stock, week root, week recovery. Figure out if its hardware or one of the steps is causing it.
Hi guys,
Have just spent the last couple of hours trying to research this but still not quite sure what's the best (safest!!) way of upgrading to lollipop on my SM-910G. I am rooted and currently on 4.4.4 and when I try to do an OTA update, I get the msg "The operating system has been modified in an unauthorised way.... etc etc"
When I connect via Kies, I get a pop up msg telling me that lollipop is available however when I try to update it tells me that I have to be unrooted. I read an article where some guy messed up his rooted S4 while trying to update via Kies. Can't afford for that to happen on my phone, I've backed up all my apps and data via Titanium Backup but now need to know what the safest way is to upgrade and keep all my settings etc.
I've downloaded the right 5.0 ROM (N910GDTU1BOC5_N910GXSA1BOC5_XSA.zip) for my model - am I correct to say that if I flash via Odin, I will lose all my apps and settings (and root)?
If I want to update and keep all my settings, am I safe to unroot via SuperSU, then update via Kies? I've read about how unrooting via SuperSU isn't really a complete unroot?
At the end of the day unless I'm 100% certain I will probably stay on 4.4.4 since there has been some horror stories with battery drain and stuff on 5.0
Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Just a few points ...First if you " dirty flash" official stock Rom with Odin, then you will lose root ( so to me there is no need to unroot first ) However you do not loose any 3 rd party apps or settings . Also i never use Kies as my personal experience is that it is a waist of time .Regarding Lollipop well i have flashed several newer " version"/changelog/dated of Lollipop 5.0.1 over the past months and all of them have been good to me...( ..overall.) No real battery drain ,no lag ( only recent button and one " Samsung bug in the setting " Accessibilty" .
All my "problems " on Lollipop, on and off, was caused by 3 rd party apps
eg.Past few days i had suddenly random reboots over and over .i reflashed Lollipol ,i factory reset ,but the random reboots continued .
i then started to install all my +_ 162 ..?? apps one by one and checked
Eventually found my culprit ..'Greenify " (the experimental paid ,bolt on package, which is meant mostly for Xposed module with few functions you can also use without Xposed eg "don't remove Notifications " and Greenify system apps l)
After using Greenify for months with no issues it suddenly started giving problems .
So i could have given Lollipop the blame for my woes but i did not .
Yes I do believe Lollipop has issues ,but overall i cannot complain .
yes ,Titanuim is the way to go .
Also i "unrooted " via SuperUser app once, no problem at all, but then why do this if you just flash over it and root is gone
Bottom line ,
you can be "stuck " on Android v4.4.4 hoping and waiting .......?
or faceup to Lollipop ?
its your choice ?
good luck
Hey willcor thanks for the reply! Good to hear your experiences with this. Interestingly I've had a similar problem of sluggishness, lag and random rebooting (multiple times a day) on my Note 4 running kitkat. This went on for about 2 or 3 days. Tried installing some recently installed apps thinking it might have caused it, and now it seems it's fixed itself, I think??
Even pulling the battery and restarting often took ages to boot. Took my 128GB SD card out and tried to boot thinking maybe it was the card but it still lagged and restarted by itself. Like I said it seems ok now and has been ok for the last few days, but now that you mention Greenify, I have that installed too along with a few exposed modules. This rebooting problem is what motivated me to think about upgrading to lollipop to see if it would fix it.
Going by what you said, if I am not going to lose apps, data and settings, then I might flash to lollipop, then re-root. Sounds like the way to go. Maybe...

hi,
Just a quick remark. When i was on Android v4.4.4, most of my issues eg. Private mode S HEALTH... (yes i know there was quick fixes /patches , that you could apply) Play store not installing apps, lags from time to time etc was caused by Xposed Framework. As far as i can remember Xposed was never optimise for Android v4.4.4? As "good" as Xposed was, it gave me "terrible headache /problems" on my Note 4....... even after uninstalling Xposed it broke some apps functionality! (This is a fact for me) . but yet, on all my other devices, no issues ! As stated in my previous post, that Lollipop experience, has been over all, very good for me.,(I have accepted the few bugs, that comes with every software update be it Android v4.4.4 or Android v 5.0.1.)
Lollipop also enabled me to use other apps /features eg Network Toggle app (change network only to LTE or LTE/3G or 3G only.. root required)
Bottom line
for me is.... yes, Lollipop has issues, but most of mine was caused by 3rd party apps not optimised 100% , work smoothly on Lollipop.
good luck
..............................
post note....
Titanium, i forgot, you might have some minor issues at first. Titanium could not find backup folder on my ext sd same as on Android v4.4.4) , so i used NextApp Sdfix (Play store, free app) Titanium, then was able to locate back ups. Again yesterday, i factory reset my device because of a Nova launcher, toggle notification issue and because i also wanted to for a period of time.
Titanium could not write and above NextApp Sdfix said i had no write premisson after running NextApp. i formatted my ext sd on laptop and NextApp did its work and Titanium working 100%
Just thought to make you aware if issue arrived.
Thanks... I forget all these root features have to be redone. I've also given extsd access on kitkat after rooting. Will have to do it all over again I guess!
Ok just a quick update. Flashed to 5.0.1 with Odin and rooted with CFautoroot. Everything seems to be ok apart from after rooting and rebooting, I got a "could not do normal boot" msg, saying that the phone was in download mode and not to disconnect the target. I pulled the batt and booted up normally ok. Checked in Titanium and found root access ok, activated write to SD and all seems normal.
Things seem a bit sluggish with lollipop, so I uninstalled xposed (which now won't work on this version), greenify and some other apps, and booted into recovery to wipe cache partition. When it was done wiping the cache and said to reboot, I got the same "could not do normal boot" msg. Once again I pulled the battery and it booted ok.
Not sure what has happened or if anything is affected - should I re-flash 5.0 with Odin and re-root all over again?

hi,
i am sure i read somewhere about.re: your remark, when you rooted and got a msg, with
"could not do a normal reboot... I am sure it could be ( @ Chainfire,) Cf autoroot website not sure.?
I would have search for a answer /reason!/ explanation Then i would afterwards, reflash Rom. (depends on you)
Just a quick question.... At what stage did you uninstall Xposed....? before /after flashing etc. i stated before that i found Xposed "broke /caused issues after i uninstalling it. (facts about two or three times it happened , in past )
Also i had no problem in using Greenify again (i have re installed it) its just the donation /paid / experimental package i am a bit hesitant with.

Hey guys, I have since reflashed and rerooted and now seem to have less problems, although the phone is still sluggish, randomly locking up and restarting , and sometimes restarting to the green android "could not do normal boot" screen.
Question now is, can I boot into stock recovery to do a factory reset? I've done some research but the views seem conflicting. Is this recommended, will I be stuck in a bootloop and will I still be rooted after the reset?
I never did a factory reset when flashing from 4.4 to 5.0.1 so I'm hoping this will fix the issues I've got now.
