[Q] Voice announcements on websites - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,still fairly new to the phone, using the Nova lite launcher,Android Ver 4.1.2 System Ver 98.21.7.xt905.retail.en.au, my problem is that when ever i open a website i get a voice announcements telling me all the txt on the website, when i click to enter info into my banking website for example it tells me "card number" "password" and when i start to enter my access number/password recites "dot" "dot" for each digit/letter i enter,it does this when i log in on various other websites as well fb,whatsapp, linkedin etc. Any one able to help me turn this feature off ? thanks for looking and any replies

Is there any way to "add recipient" in stock messaging app?

Ive downloaded and use Handcent and yes it is nice. The reason I looked for and started using it was because of the lack of add recipient option when composing a new message in the stock app that is included. I feel like Im just missing how to do this in the stock app. Is it possible? It seems like it would be the most basic option but I can't seem to figure out how.

Normally,in the stcok app, after you put the name of the recipient, you just have to tap again inside the recipient box to add another one. else if you put phone number instead of a contact in the phonebook, then you just have to put a comma between the two phone number.
You misunderstood. The idea is that I don't want to have to type in their name. I want to be able to choose from my list of contacts in my phonebook.
I think the only options now are separating recipients with commas or FORWARD the message to another recipient after you have sent it out. I prefer the latter since it doesn't create a whole new thread.
lol is no one actually reading the question???
I haven't come across a way to add recipients, I always just type the 1st 2 letters and add them from that, IMO its easier than scrolling through a list of a few hundred people
Open contact list. Long press contact then select send message. It then opens messaging app.

Seeing as everyone is misunderstanding you're request I will give you the short answer.. No.
You can't select multiple recipients from a list in the stock app, unlike handscent, where you can.

Sorry... where in the question does it mention multiple recipients? I think i did answer the question!

Froyo call log

Since upgrading to froyo iv noticed messages are appearing in my call log. Dont know about anyone else but i find this to be very annoying when trying to find an unsaved number. Are there any ways to change this feature to display calls only same as before?
Thanks

Unfortunately the phone doesn't have a true 'call log' it instead uses the samsung contact log which I also find to be a bit of an annoyance.
I have the same problem on my epic with froyo. I send about 7000 or 8000 messages a month so this thing is starting to become annoying. Does anyone have a solution? anyway to put the 2.1 dial pad and call log back?
i am also looking to solve this. hate all the smses clogging up call log. typical "smart-ass" decision by samsung.
At least im not the only one that finds this hugely annoying!
Hopefully someone can extract the old one for us to replace this feature

I agree! This is very annoying. A simple "only calls" option would be perfect.
A temporary fix is to sort it to "missed calls" or "recieved calls" (depending on what are you looking for), but it's not the same.
Anyone found a fix for this issue yet? Will try asking in the sgstools thread see if he can cook up a fix there.
Thanks.

Workaround
I upgraded to Froyo yesterday and this has been pissing me off all day. Not long after finding this post I found a workaround. I've installed Dialer One from Android Market, and using Launcher Pro, I moved the Froyo phone app from the home screen and put Dialer One in it's place, and also renamed it to Phone on my Launcher Pro home screen. I also replaced the icon on the bottom bar with Dialer One.
Any easier ways to get this sorted?
There is a workaround for this. Check my previous thread on the same subject for details.
Most people don't realize that there are TWO call log apps on the native dialer. The first can be found by opening the native dialer and clicking LOGS. That one has the problem you describe.
The second can be found by opening the dialer, click on CONTACTS and then HISTORY. Click the settings button and unselect "messages".

montrealguy,
I don't have that setting in my sprint epic 4g
montrealguy
When I look under the Contacts and History, it looks correct. Only phone calls showing up. But when I click on the Call Logs in the dialer, it has messages also. You can go to menu and then View By, and modify it here, but no good option to see all but messages.

Same issue here on my Samsung Vibrant on 2.2... Is there a way I could install the apk file from 2.1 to replace the froyo dialer files? It's annoying to have messages show up within my call log, that's what the messages log is for
Bump for someone to please assist... thanks.
If you go to the dialer and then logs and push the menu button and select "view by" you can at least sort by call type. This is with 2.2.1 btw.

How to get sense.com dashboard working

Right, hope this works for everyone as I can't get my FB or nav working I tried to figure out how to get sense dashboard operational.
Tested on ARHD 6.3.1 over 2 fresh installs
Run set up (main menu) or from a fresh install
When you get to the scheduled Sync tab select - Automatically sync (you can change at a later time if your batt appears to drain)
Select your wifi (for speed purposes)
Allow googles usage
accounts - Input your google one (for market etc..) and any others you want to sync such as twitter and facebook stream/contacts.
Finish
Load up on your PC/tablet/mac... etc (was that PC enough?) https://www.htcsense.com/en_GB/#dashboard/ and then log in, input your mobile number in the international format for UK it is +44 then your mobile number omitting the FIRST zero, mine starts +447624
Once your on the dashboard you'll get a map on the left with the smallest button just above it that says refresh, but don't hit that yet.
Load up on your phone htc hub (you need this btw, DL the apk from droid website if you need it)
log in using the same details as the sense dashboard site and again input your mobile number in international format as per the above step
Once it logs you in you can DL some standard aps from htc direct but... hit that phones menu button and prod the options menu
Go to notification settings and uncheck 'New item notifications' this is so you don't get bothered about exciting new applications from htc
Exit, we're done in this one and then go into the next app which is called HTC likes and do the same as above remembering to go into the options and uncheck 'New item notifications'
Here's the final bit, go back onto your PC and click that refresh button and let it sync. Mine took around 2 minutes and from then on I could see where my phone was and make it ring
Mine does all that you have just described without any of the steps you just described.
I can make it ring and see it just by logging in to the website...
That's good, but I know a lot of people could never get it working

SMS received on my N7 ?

Hello,
I have an 3G N7 and know that it can not receive / send SMS. OK, that is what was told of.
But today I got a notification that I have a message in notification bar, opened it and it looked like a regular SMS message.
Then I tested myself, I sent a normal SMS to my tablet gsm number and received it instantly. I'm on Vodafone if that makes any sense.
Build number is JDQ39 - baseband 1231_0.17.0_1205, Kernel 3.1.10-g05b777c.
Obviously this is some app inside that handles the received message, what's the app name ? location ? at least is interesting to know that at least SMS I can receive. How can I access it ?
Best regards,
Radu
Hi, i also have the same question. Anybody knows?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Download Go sms from store.
Google Voice works great on the N7 for sending and receiving sms, also. Sms works over wifi or data.
I maybe not beein too explicit.
I have received two SMS, regular kind, sent through my gsm carrier.
As i received them, means there is some app that recognise it and can handle the sms.
Question is, what is the app, how can i acces the messages received.
I'm aware of various solutions for sms that require to have an online account, in order to handle sms, do not want to use this kind of service.
Also, there is hack to install sms/mms apk by rooting, but, again this is not the object of my question.
I just want to check my incoming sms's for now.
Best regards,
Radu
Like mentioned above, if you install gosms or any other third party app it should allow you to view that text message that came through the carrier

Long press the notification and press "App Info" and that will tell you the name of the app.
Hello again,
Here is screenshot and detaild of the app.
As it says it receives SMS, but also can write SMS- see last line, in theory.
Question is, where can find this app. Looks to be hidden..

How to do so with stock mms.apk has already been covered here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34282107
Right in the N7 3G dev section. XDA search function is highly recommended

Hello Rebel,
I know the MMS.APK, saw it, thank you for heads up.
My specific question is, why should I use that, if I have an app already installed. I do get SMSs from any regular gsm phone, without being necessary to create an online account for GOSMSPRO or whatever similar. The screen shot says that I might be able to send also, on my cost SMSs. No probIem, just want to find that app that handles the SMS received. Can I do that ? can I send using same app that is ALREADY installed?
thank you for patience

So it seems the 'Simple message receiver' is an app that comes with the 3g N7. Mine is just wi-fi, so I can't check, but does your app drawer have that app? If you check Settings > Apps > All, is it listed there? I have no idea how to open it if it is not in the app drawer or if you would be able to send using it anyway. Interesting that it is included in the 3G version.

Yes. As thw thread states, they are successfully receiving and sending sms from the same app over gsm, just as you would on a phone. The only difference i forsee is doing so with a dedicated data sim, or using the sim from your existing phone.
Many are using the latter, and using other apps to forward thier phone calls to the data side, and using sms normally.

Premium SMS issue on Samsung Galaxy S8+

I am unable to send Premium SMS through my new Galaxy S8+. My provider allows this and I have gone into Settings > Apps >Special Access > Use Premium SMS Services and the setting for Message Service is on "Always Allow" but texts still fail. I have reviewed other forums for previous handsets and versions and can't see other fixes. Anyone have any other ideas?

I had the same problem exactly. Check that you have extra credit sitting in your account in addition to your mobile plan to pay the cost of premium text messages.
