Basically, because my family is switching from at&t to Sprint and paying a quarter of a family plan is way cheaper than my own plan, I also have to switch to Sprint.
I refuse to downgrade on my phone, because I'm really not feeling anything slower than a dual core with 2GB RAM after being spoiled by my galaxy s3 for so long.
The options in my price range right now are the S4, the Motorola G, and the LG G2. Of those three, the G2 looks the most appealing because I'm a big dude with huge hands (wine bottles look like beer bottles in my hand) and the volume rocker being on the back seems way more intuitive because that's where my index, middle, and ring fingers rest with my pinky cradling the bottom of the phone.
So, design and specs wise it's a no brainer, but what do you guys think about the stock experience? How is the camera in real life usage? Is the battery life decent? (I know that last one is extremely subjective based on how the phone is used)
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
imo - this phone is the BEES KNEES
It was pretty damn amazing stock, straight out of the box. battery lasted longer than any smartphone ive ever had. great camera too.
since rooting and flashing a custom kernel im getting 24+ hours on battery with pretty heavy usage throughout the day.
Yeah this phone is a straight beast and is better than the iPhone 5S and the Note 3 and I have owned both of those devices. Battery is a beast and the way LG handles Android is phenomenal! You won't regret it.

The stock experience is pretty good, IMO. And that includes the battery life. Of course, rooting and customizing it will get you even more performance and battery life.
You will not regret getting it. An all around awesome phone like the rest have said.
Take the plunge,mate!

Well let me put it this way.....my last s3 used to be bak to the charger at 6 pm after unplugging at 8 am......now i go to bed at 12 am and my g2 has 45-50% juice on it! Thats for battery.......for the experience, this phone allowed me to change icons out of the box....to me no need for a launcher which is great......lag wise: never experienced any.....redraws are minimal.......camera is on par with competitors......all in all, best phone experience i've had since i started using androids probably 8 yrs ago!
The only real decision with this phone is should I get a black or white one. Or you can get a red or gold on off ebay.

I look forward to getting my hands on it in the next few days and starting work on porting my favorite rom (miui)

Guys, to not open a new topic, I'll ask some questions here. I have a Note3 but I can't get used to it since is too big. Looking on Nexus 5 thread, it seems that is plagued with many defects (dead pixels, low volume, bad battery...). I can't see any other replacement since in my country G2 is actually at the same price as G2.
Here are my questions:
1. How is the process of flashing custom roms and reverting back to stock in case of warranty problems ? As you may know on Note 3 there is a knox flag which invalidates warranty if a custom rom is flashed. So how is on LG G2?
2. How is the back of the phone feel ? Doesn't give a feeling that is slippery ? Can it be hold confortably ?
3.I see many complains that you hear noises when you hold/press on the backside of the phone. Is this true ?
4. I see that there are many variants, I am from Europe and I want a variant which is compatible with cyanogenMod. Which one should I get? D802?
5. Can somebody which owned maybe a Nexus 4 or a Note 3 how it feels in hand when used ? The size is not too big ? I really find the n4's form factor as the best for me.
Thanks a lot.
1. You can flash back to stock without any major hassle.
2. The back is slippery and a fingerprint magnet. Grab a case, you won't regret it. This phone is too fragile.
3. No, just because a few had that issue, it doesn't mean every one has it. Mine creaks but follow #2.
4. yes D802 for EU.
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks a lot @vPro97
Is it too fragile because of the plastic used or because of small bezels ? Unfortunately I never use cases. This is a thing I need to put more thoughts into.
I forgot to ask about the screen, anyone having backlight bleeding ?
Woot. I did it. I now own the Sprint LG G2!

Anyone switched from Galaxy s4 to Lg G2? What is the experience? How it feels? Pros and cons.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
I didn't come right from the s4 I had some other phones in between but.. almost identical in size... similar features plus some... no lag even with the bloat.. ips LCD is soon much nicer than amoled imo... for me a huge thing is being able to turn fast dormancy off which never actually stuck on my s4
Haven't found any cons yet
Sent from my LG-D800 using Tapatalk 4
I'm coming straight from it, I just sold my S4 last night. This phone is better in every way imo. It is about the same size but a little bit thicker so it feels better in the hand to me. The ips lcd screen is much better to me. It's much brighter and much brighter whites and more accurate colors. When I looked side by side, I realized how bad the screen on the S4 really looks.
I also feel that the software is very similar but it doesn't lag like touchwiz does. It is also has great features that are actually useful. I found myself never using most of the features on my S4.
I love the software customization options too. It makes me feel like I don't even need a custom rom. The camera is nice as well. I have gotten some nice shots so far.
All in all, this phone has been a great experience and I highly recommend it over the S4.

I will go from the s3 to either the G2 or Nexus 5. The G2 looks very promising. Hopefully sprint gets both phones around the same time so I can compare them side by side.

I traded my week old S4 yesterday for the G2. Extremely impressed. Ran the battery down last night so I'm doing the first full recharge now, but this thing is fast and slick. Screen can't be beat. I'll be in the mountains later taking pictures to test out the camera but my first few last night came out great.
No regrets here. We're going to get along great.

I am going to switch from S4 to G2 if the AT&T models boot loader can be unlocked or of any other model that will work on LTE with AT&T that the boot loader can be unlocked. I want AOSP on the G2. The LG software is horrible.

I just got the att version about 2 days ago, switching from an st and I have to say I'm pleased.
PRO's:
Great battery life
UI seems to fly compared to S4 even though they both used about the same amount of ram stock and not rooted
Screen is great. Loving the customization with on screen buttons
It doesn't seem to get anywhere as hot as my s4
There are more pros but my final one I'll mention is the buttons on the back. No accidental bumps hitting the power button holding the phone in landscape
CONS:
Phone is slippery
Concern for update support from lg

Got the G2 on launch day, came from the GT-I9500. So far I can't think of a single con or regret. My only worry is AOSP dev support. (which is one of the reasons I left the octa GS4)
The G2 seems better in every single aspect thus far for me. (the screens are a matter of opinion of course)
Right now I have the S4 an G2. I'm a pretty big Samsung homer and have had the nexus, S3, Note and Note . I work for Verizon, so it's easy for me to get anything I want cheaply. My last lg was the G2x on T-Mobile. I swore I would never use one again after that nightmare! With all that said I love this phone. Battery life is sick, screen is amazing, no lag...just smooth as butter. I find myself using the knock feature all the time. The two things that are holding me back from keeping it are probably the same for just about everyone else. No SD card or removable battery. I put a ton of stuff on my phone from torrents and stream it to my TV. I think the answer might be, sell the S4 keep the G2 and grab a note 3 at launch. not sure my wife will agree with this solution however

Just picked up my VZW G2. I have a loki'd S4 and I'm happy with it. I run PACman on it and really have no issues but I'm a phone junky. I pay full price to maintain my unlimited data so I get a lot of sh*t from people when they see I have a new one but whatever. So far, I love it. Really disappointed the double tap to turn screen off doesn't work on nova launcher but not surprised. Still works turning it on but not of.
I do like the G2. It really feels a lot like my S4 so I'm already used to the feel. A little hard to get used to buttons but that doesn't bother me a bit. The screen Is amazing and I don't have to worry about screen burn in like I had on my S4. I've hidden my soft keys and an using pie... I want my whole screen. I'm keeping my S4 no matter what. As far as the G2, I really hope the Dev community gets into this device. The only thing I missed from TW, was the camera. So went AOSP pretty fast and never really looked back. However, on this device, I'd love to see some way to have the double tap to turn off work on different launchers. Again, I hope the Devs work on this bad boy.
Ultimately, I'll have to play with this a bit longer and see what happens with development, then, I'll decide if this goes on eBay. If the Nexus 5 comes to VZW (yes I know but some rumors say it might but I'm not holding breath) and I get the moto X through work, I'll keep it any way.

Double tap to turn off screen in third party launchers
I had the s4 for a couple days & switched to the G2..
The G2 feels a lot smoother when running vs TW on the S4. The S4 did have a bunch of other sensors (like the front IR for air gestures) - but I honestly don't see myself using them.
My biggest concerns were non-removable battery, no micro sd and how good the radio was. When I checked it out at the store, the G2 had marginally better signal strength. Microsd is solved with a cheap usb/microsd otg cable, and after thinking about it, the battery isn't that much of an issue for me. Plus the G2 has wireless charging - picked up 2 nokia dt-900's for $25 shipped
The G2 is solid!
I run nova prime and my double tap the status bar to turn the screen off works.

So, some people have been able to get amazing battery life out of the G2, but others have had fairly major heat buildup and short battery life issues. I have also seen some posts about lag issues.
I'm deciding between this phone and the HTC One, which I have heard also has battery issues. I currently have an HTC One X+, and the battery, lag, and heat buildup are unbelievably bad, so I'm cautious about getting another HTC device.
What I want to know is, are most people having good experiences with the battery/heat buildup of the G2? Have you experienced consistent lag? Thanks for your responses.
I have experienced excellent battery life 1+ day usage. I've never had the phone heat up at all... Slight warmth, possibly just from my hand...

I haven't experienced any of the issues you mention. The plastic case squeaks a little, but this is to be expected...the s3 and s4 both do/did it. It's literally the only drawback I've noticed. I just ordered a case, so hopefully that'll muffle the sound and it'll be perfect. ☺

I just sold my HTC One to get my G2. The One's battery life sucks! The only things the One has over the G2 are: 1. higher PPI screen (worthless since both have pixels so tiny you wont even notice the difference. 2. Front facing stereo speakers. My G2 makes it through the day easily with over 50% remaining by the time I go to sleep. It gets a little warm, but only when playing games...and no warmer than my One got when playing games.
hmm i was also thinking about getting the lg g2. I current have the att htc one x, which is nice and all but i think its time for an upgrade. Im going through the insurance though and theyre sending me out a galaxy s4. Has anyone used both devices, the s4 and the g2? Mine was more of a stutter then lag as smooth as TW Roms could make it and got annoying after a while
Playing around with the phone for the past few hours, I am quite impressed on how smooth it is for me.. its like a better TW (might be insulting to the G2 )
I'm in the same boat and considering the g2 or the g pro. Im liking the phablet because I watch a lot of video on my current phone so the real estate is nice. At $99 with a new contract its a steal and I'm due for an upgrade. But I'm also digging the hardware of the g2. Bern lurking between the 2 forums trying to make a decision, but I'm heavily leaning towards the g2.

Like many others, I have the One as well. I also own the S4, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt "the G2 is hands down my favorite".
I do however think that my S4 gets as good of battery life as my G2 though. I just don't like the lag my S4 gets when I load it up with apps.

I'm hoping that the LG Nexus 5 (stock android, either 4.3 or 4.4) will be coming to the G2 shortly after the N5 is released, and when/if its ported to Verizon, it will make the G2 one heck of a device.

Well it is only one generation up from the G4. The screen is arguably not an upgrade unless you dislike amoled. The phone is faster but doubt you'd notice that much IRL. It is a bare incremental upgrade and definitely not a big one. I would not upgrade unless it cost nothing.

Not a huge upgrade, no. Screen is slightly bigger, camera is about the same, speed is slightly faster. I sold my GS4 to go to a G2, but that was more frustration about the AMOLED screen. I prefer the camera on the GS4 but pretty much prefer everything else on the G2.

I say its big because the s4 is just so bad, but that's my opinion based off my experience owning one for two months. But the reason I'm responding to your comment is because you reminded me how I made a hundred dollars the day I got my g2 because I was able to sell my s4 for 330 (literally a few hours after getting the g2) and used an upgrade to get the g2 which cost 230 total Was a good day to be done with that phone, get a better one, and have an extra hundred cash in my pocket.
perhaps the OP could do something similar. I'm sure some sucker...I mean samsung fanboy would give you 300 or more for the s4.
Not having to worry about screen burn in is the biggest advantage imo.

If you own an exynos S4 dont,if its the snapdragon 600,for only 110 go for it.
Do it and yes everything about the g2 is an upgrade the fact that it doesn't have 500 add-ons that you will never use and you need to turn off to save battery life is the biggest thing

Do it, I couldn't get througvery full day on the S4 but on my G2 it's a breeze even on heavy use. I was astounded at the slight upgrade in screen size which feels like so much bigger but without the bulk of a Note device. I love the edge to edge display and how my fingers roll off the sides (in a good way, like futuristic).
OK u guys talked me into it. Just bought one on swappable for 490 and sold my for 390. I can live with that. And if the battery is as good as u dak says I will be very happy. Today I'm 6 hours in and have 10% battery left, so I will have to swap to my spare in a minute. Thanks yall

I agree 100% with this statement. I came the G2 from the S4 and this is the best phone that "I" have had. It's also the first phone that I have preferred using a stock based ROM. In the end though, it's all personal opinion.
I came from a S4 as well and my G2 Running CM is blazing fast.
The battery life is allot better as well, even when the screen brightness is 100%.
I'm also coming from s4, no big difference on performance (both running cm 10.2). Moving to g2 mainly due to larger capacity battery
Everything is an upgrade specially the battery. I notice though that the G2 takes a bit more time launching apps but not really by a big margin. Maybe flashing ROMs like stock would improve the G2 but that's not my cup of tea now due to lack of time. I loved my S4 but I love my G2 even more.

I have them side by side right now just swapped my stuff over from my Verizon S4 to a Vzw G2 running clean rom on both and I have to say the G2 is quite a bit speedier. I moved over mainly because I was one of the dumb ones who took the first me7 ota and couldn't install any aosp roms which killed it for me.
Love the G2 so far!

I have both right and still deciding which one to keep.
Have S4 since May and have G2 since yesterday (the new gadget factor is still working in my mind), having 6 days left to return it to the shop.
So far, I think it is a small upgrade and with compromises, and not a few...
Pros - G2
- Slightly bigger screen (only if you root and hide soft keys, otherwise it is actually smaller on real usable space).
- Better Processor.
- Better GPU.
- Much better whites than S4.
- Have a better overall look.
Pros - S4
- Better Amoled screen viewing angles. I'm 4 years on Amoled and just now, looking at a top of line LCD I understood how good its (Amoled) viewing angles are.
- Much better screen blacks than G2.
- SD Card.
- Removable battery.
- Lighter.
- Smaller.
- Slightly Better camera.
- 100% flat screen (great for applying screen protectors).
- Better accessories.
The S4 pros list is longer but for me Screen, CPU and GPU tops anything else and those are better on G2.
The G2 upgrade is that small that in January S5 will be a much bigger upgrade from G2 than G2 is from S4.
Now that this phone has been out for over a year, does anybody have any complaints?
How's the battery life?
Has it, or does it ever randomly freeze?
Anything you hate about it now that you've been using it for some time?
Lastly, I found this phone and the LG Optimus G new for around the same price range, the Nexus 4 being around $20 more expensive. Aside from the removable SD card on the Optimus G and LTE support, and the potentially removable battery on this phone, are there any other differences? If you had a choice to go with either phone once again, and neither the SD card, LTE support, nor battery being an issue in making your decision, which would you go with, and why? I believe the only other difference would be the Android support, with the Nexus 4 running 4.4.2, and the Optimus G running 4.1.2.
In other words, my friend is stuck between making a decision between the two and doesn't know which to go with.
Thanks!
Dude they look like almost the exact same phone. The only difference I can see on GSM Arena is that the Optimus has a (market dependent) 13 mp camera vs Nexus's 8mp subpar camera. If it did have a 13mp camera I would get the Optimus. Otherwise as bad as I hate to say it I just can't make myself get another phone at this point. I realllly want an LG G2 but it's like having a car that's paid for that you've become comfortable with and you got it like you like it. Although there are other models that may be a little bigger and get a little better gas mileage and have the navigation built into the steering wheel. Lol. My phone gets phenomenal battery life, can be upgraded to 4.4.2. Will continue to get a fair amount of developer support. Has a super cool glass back. I mean I think it's a good decision. I would probably never get another phone if I had a better camera... Tough choice.

Yeah, they're essentially the same phone. That's the reason for the troubles, because the differences are so minor, I was just wondering if there was anything bigger than what was posted on a web a year ago.
If your friend doesn't care for LTE or more storage, then nexus 4 would be better. Running latest android version, lots of development support, looks fabulous with the glass back, running very smooth, battery is average but hey, this is a smartphone mate. of course it would gobble down battery fast (still I got almost 7 hours of sot with 22 hours of usage, not very average ain't it? ) But then, it depends on your friend, if he's not so much into rooting or updating android version, many of the nexus advantages would be nothing to him.
The screen will go at some point. Mine just did after 14 months. I was lucky. Some had theirs go funny at 6 months and LG refused to change the screen under warranty. My soft keys don't work in landscape. Only solution is a new screen. Save yourself the headache and buy something else.

Just to clarify, which screen will go out? The Nexus 4?

The performance and the display are excellent.
Battery life is ok.
But the LTE and the really bad camera make me consider an upgrade.
I would recommend to get a newer device.
About a year old now and this is still the sexiest phone. True there are better options but for the price it is still a tough one to beat. Zero issues with it, was my wife's at first, she broke the LCD a few months in (not the phones fault as she has broken half a dozen phones now) so she moved to wp8 (great for her) I took the n4 and swapped a new digitizer/LCD in it and it has been flawless for 8 months or so now.
I have played with a lot of the newer phones and this one still competes great, yes the camera could be better but for my purposes it is still perfect, oh and did I mention sexy as hell?

We all know that the S5 is a monster and works wonders but anyone else curious trying out the LG g3?

Not realy, the test reports are mixed and various. Batterylife isn`t good, almost no apps are optimized for the screen resolution allthough its very good and the software features though much flatter than on the G2 is still pretty scattered all around the board and not easy to find.
to be honest the IP67 for me was a deal-breaker and I wouldn't change to another phone... I live in Ireland where rains 90% of time.. so using my phone outside while its raining without breaking the phone, is pretty damn important to me... And the phone itself is such a great surprise to me that the only device i am willing to buy next is Note 4 ))
I was considering it but then I realised there is no reason to.
1. Doesn't perform as well in gaming
2. Mixed reviews regarding battery life
3. Heating issues which leads to auto brightness issues
4. Personal opinion, but I have small hands
5. Animations stutter and frequent launcher redraws.
Nope, the knock code feature seems pretty cool but that's about it. I'm ashamed to say I'm actually waiting for the iPhone 6

I bought a LG G3 before trading it in for the S5. The phone is beautiful but the lack of a physical home button was annoying and the knock feature didn't always work. The screen was dim and battery life was terrible. I came from an iphone so using the G3 made me want to go back but I decided to try out the S5 first and have loved it with no thought of going back to the iphone
I was considering the Lg G3, HTC m8, or the S5 as an update from my S3, and at first the G3 seemed to be a clear choice. However the more I looked into it the more I read that I didn't like, I'm sure its a good phone, but there seem to be a lot of issues that could occur.
Seeing as I'm going to be getting my contract online, I don't want to have to be returning a phone back and forth by post.
I tried all 3 in a shop recently and I was surprised to find that I was more impressed with the screen on the S5 than the G3, and I really didn't like the feel of the M8 at all ( despite what every review says!). Also I really like the whole custom ROM scene that comes with the galaxy.
So I've just ordered my S5 and I really cant wait!

Good choice mate, the S5 is handsdown the best S device so far. Its fast and snappy, no lags whatsoever, good screen and the only disadvantages are the storage (32GB would be nice) and the speaker that could be a bit louder (can be fixed though with a mod).
In my opinion I think the m8 is snappier and the speaker on the s5 isn't even comparable.
The screen I agree with you, it's fantastic.

Yeah the M8 certainly was quicker, but as I said I just really didn't like how it felt.

I know what you mean. it's too tall for me anyway, and I even have big hands.

The g3 doesn't come out until august where I live. When I was going through my upgrade choices, the g3 (despite the wait) was my choice. (Based on what I'd seen from the g2). But, the s5 kept daunting on me although I didn't really want another Samsung device (had an s3 prior).
I don't know though, from the reviews I'd read, I seen the only thing people were complaining about was the design. That really didn't bug me at all and I was quite happy to see the s5 still in plastic. I had an aluminium case for my s3 that's been scratched and whatnot over time so a metal phone really doesn't suit my needs.
I did regret my decision before I got my s5, but haven't really regretted it since its arrival.
I'm quite pleased with the fingerprint scanning thing and now couldn't see myself going without it.
On the downside, Samsung have scarred some of the devs with secure bootloaders and Knox, so there's still little variety in rom selection.
When I got this phone, the one thing I really wanted (and have been waiting for) is a google play edition rom.

I jave always liked Touchwiz since when I got the Galaxy S2. Then I got the S3 and now S5. I was really tired of the on the Galaxy S3. The S3 was the best phone I've ever head but that lag sometimes was so bad it would make me mad. The Galaxy S5 has everything I want.
A lag free Touchwiz experience, exellent and long battery life, an amazing AMOLED display (I love AMOLED displays) and it is water resistant. I've recorded videos even deeper than 1 meter a lot of times and the phone is completely fine.
