Using avast! Hard Reset Protection - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

If I somehow brick my custom ROM and need to back up to a previous state, will this security app cause problems and not allow me to fix my phone?
Just wondering! Thanks.

I always used that, and never had a problem flashing roms (didnt turn it off before flashing)
i think it only stops say if you lost your phone, and somebody found it, and they did the hard reset option in storage (factory reset)
doesnt think it stops it at all at the custom recovery/ODIN level

Ah, that makes me feel a lot better. Thanks man.
But does that mean they could instead flash a backup or something onto the phone to bypass that "hard" reset?

yes, if a computer geek finds it you're done
but with sprint you can have them blacklist the EMEI
on GSM they could still use your phone

Phone keeps hard resetting itself

I have a very annoying problem with my HD....after a few days of using a ROM, the phone suddenly decides to hard reset itself. Often it is when it is booting up, it will just about finish and then reset, and then go through the setup routine again like it has just been flashed.
Even worse, is that when it does this it formats my SD card, sometimes so it is not even partitioned any more I have to format it again, and obviously everything is gone. Even tried running some data recovery software but it can't recover my stuff.
This is seriously annoying me, anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Does this mean that you've recently flashed a custom ROM? If so, it sounds like you need to try a different one and, if it keeps happening, flash the original ROM back on it and get it replaced as faulty.
Sounds a pain in the arse (not literally)!
Yes it has a custom ROM, but this happened once when it still had a stock ROM on, and has happened using several different custom ROMs.
I guess the phone may be faulty, I can't understand why it formats the card when it does it, not good!

Yeah - I wouldn't even put a card in that phone again. Afraid it does sound like a warranty replacement, assuing you've got a warranty.
Good luck mate!

1.61 Slowdown?

Hi,
I flashed my phone to the 1.61 from 1.43, and suffer huge slowdowns at times.
It seems to be when the device is woken up & unlocked, the lock screen remains, and Sense / apps perform extremely slowly. I'm forced to reset to fix the problem.
Just out of curiosity (before I 'downgrade' to 1.48), anybody else had the same problems?
Many thanks,
Daniel.
ever tried clearing the caches out (opera etc)
161 is fine for me..
+ 1 for me too. No problem with slowdown. I clean regurarly using SK Tools.
Cheers guys, I'll try SK Tools out.

did you hard-reset after flash?
Should you always do a hard reset after a flash? Didn't know it was needed. I had assumed a flash was effectively the same as a hard-reset!
The flash only rewrites the ROM! It does NOT erase the "c:"
It is like to install a new os without formating the partition first! All files left by the previous build are still there and this may cause issues!

If you flash with the stock RUU, it does a hard reset for you. If you use the "customRUU" it doesn't do a hard reset.

Oh! so whenever we flash a new *official* ROM, we do not need to do a hard reset?

whenever you flash using the exe direct from htc you don't need to hard reset.
when you flash using sd card or using the custom ruu then you ned to manually hard reset
But regarding the slow down, yes I have the problem and I think its related to all the syncing with email/facebook/weather/etc... If you are on a G reception then it will take longer to download these updates, and if you have power saving option enabled then it will do this after the device "awakes" as it won't do it as well in Standby as it is power saving.
I've used BSB Tweaks and disabled the option which seemed to work for me

Cheers for your reply - so you disabled the power saving option? What effect does this have on battery life?

[Q] Last Row Touchscreen Not Working

Hello everyone..
I got just get prob on my fone.My last row of touch screen (home/menu/back/search) is not working.
I hadn't dropped the phone or gotten it a wet or anything, they just stopped. Nver rooted my fone also.
Anyone know how to fix it?
i really didn't think of any other solution, but here it is:
becasue you are not rooted, you can only wipe all the phone's data, and restore it to factory settings... that means all apps, contacts, messages, everything will be gone and restored back to the "out-of-the-box" shape..... good luck

i meant factory reset yes...
rooting the phone will have you better control over it.... so you could flash another kernel and it may work... however, you could try factory reset, because rooting it will result in the same thing...

the prob is,i still have to use back button when want to rooting.
So,i cant continue the step to rooting
I'd not take the chances of rooting if you are not sure it will fix it.
Do you still have warranty? I'd just take it back...
Have you tried simply turning your phone off, and then back on?

Hi, I have a big problem... // BLUETOOTH

Hi, (this is my first post here)
well I have a really nasty problem. Since my kitkat update there have been apps facing a lot of issues, thanks to their bugs/wanted changes with the permission setup and so on... In an attempt to fix that I tried to flash the new A7 firmware yesterday. (was on the unbranded A6 from Poland)
The problem was that because I'm unbranded, it FAILED at the end of the flash. So the obvious solution would be to flash the FW with a PIT file. But I don't want to loose my data and restore everything. It will take me 8 hours at least. (and this with nandroid backups and what not)
Well after some trial and error it booted up. But the system was corrupted i.e FCs and and and... So I flashed A6 back. All worked/works well now but I have an enormous problem:
The Bluetooth is broken. It tries to turn itself on but doesn't get anywhere. And in the eventually it stops, after 30/40 seconds. And after that it starts again. Well the obvious solution would be to go and delete the bluetooth data/cache and also delete the /data/misc/bluedroid/ folder. But nope. No success. And the same goes for reflashing/dalvik cache+cache wiping and so on. I also tried to take the battery out for some time.
Well the catlog show a lot of problems. It seems to be permission problems in this case too. I know that you suggest that I should only wipe it. But if i restore this **** will get back too. And re-installing everything from scratch will take me 2.5 days. I have like 750 apps or something.
Please help me with this, I beg you!

But anyway I know that I can fix it if i restore fresh. But I want to repair the Bluetooth, without factory resets.

This is why I use cwm to make a backup...
But seriously, it looks like you might need to do a complete wipe... It sounds like some fragment of the A7 rom has been left there to corrupt your bluetooth....
Pain I know but sometimes this is the only way....

I love many things about android, but one thing that seems to completely miss is the ability to factory reset only certain things like your settings, radios and so on.
Is there really no way to extract everything there has to be, from A6? Like zeroing all bluetooth files but nothing else?

Nope, unfortunately not...
Did you edit or flash the platform.xml(extSD fix KK) by any chance??
If so, others have reported Bluetooth breaking (among other things) after editing/flashing the platform.xml. The only fix was to start from scratch (factory reset).

Yeah you're right. But I still can't wipe... Like that would mean hell for me.
I really DON'T UNDERSTAND why I can't reverse it. Why flashing that zip messed eveything up. Like why doesn't it work now that I've restored the platform.xml backup? Are you shure that there isn't any way? It really doesn't make any sense at all.

Well, I didn't encounter this problem when I edited the file. But I'm just relaying other's, who had this prob and had to factory reset. I would of thought restoring the old platform.xml, setting right permission & rebooting would have fixed it, but apparently that doesn't work. You could possibly try this as a last ditch effort, but going by what other's have experienced, I think resetting is going to be the only fix.
Would you like me to upload my platform file for you to test?
EDIT: (you'll need root) here's one I prepared earlier- rename the xls to xml, move to /system/etc/permissions and set permissions (file)6,4,4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49574602

Who in this world put that crazy idea in your head??? Did you even try? Maybe you should
Well I really love android, I do. And it has too many good aspects to switch back to iOS, BUT, Two things really are missing:
an uncomplicated, selfupdating store for mods (it's slowly getting better with the arrival of xposed framework but we still aren't at the same level).
Before xposed, xda was the only place for mods. And devs have to implement auto updating features in their apps themselves if they want it...
With xposed it's as I said better but not really the same actually.
And the last thing is really about my problem here. Nandroid backups/etc are good but not always an option with 25/30 gb of data on your phone (im not including media only apps and so on). So I really ask myself why there isn't a restore/reset option for some things like the system backbone, wifi, bluetooth etc. And this whole permission thing is really pathetic.
I also miss Icloud because it does backups without living a big fingerprint on the device. No bat drain and no errors. Carbon/Helium and all that other crap even titanium are really good but to complicated and battery/process hungry compared to icloud.
So while almost everything else is awesome about android IMO, this really sucks ass. And it's not that I am a noob or to stupid to backup. It's about the fact that it's not as convenient.
Well well....

Yes, I also tried by factory reset. I cant explain exact issue, some virus/malware exist on my phone which makes my phone slow.
I tried many antiviruses but no luck so far.
So I want to format/repair/restructure folder/system files of phone so that infected files gets deleted from phone.
Factory reset and installing stock firmware is not replacing/deleting all folders/files of my phone.
Best Regards...
