[Q] Safestrap Recovery remove prompt - how? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two slots. One for stock ROM and the other for Beans. Beans is active. On each reboot I'm prompted to enter recovery or continue, with a 10 second time out.
Any way to bypass this and boot straight into Beans? When I uninstall the recovery (from beans) my phone will boot into stock, so that doesn't work.
Would like to get a reboot that effectively skips safestrap/TWRP prompt until I really need it, which isn't most of the time.
Let me know, thanks.

You can make a back up of Beans and restore it to your stock slot then uninstall safestrap. The down side is if something goes wrong you will have to Odin back to stock if you can't boot back into Beans and reinstall safestrap. I ran it without safestrap but if you want to flash anything from recovery you will have to reinstall ss again. I myself found it more beneficial to leave it installed. You will still have your ss backups if you decide to uninstall because they are stored on the ext sd card in the TWRP folder.

Yeah that's what I did, was hoping to have stock available and leave the recovery dormant until i need it.
thanks.

A future version of SafeStrap, if there is one, may allow us to change the time-out value; but it will probably have a minimum of 1, 2, or 3 seconds. There must remain some way to enter Recovery.

[Q] Going from Safestrap to CWM?

So a while back I went through the process to root my phone and went with safestrap. Now it appears the new roms aren't compatible with safestrap (is it because of 4.3 gapps?).
How would I go about switching over to CWM? Is there anything fancy? Is there a guide? Any help appreciated.
Thank You.
Is your boot loader unlocked?
If so, flash CWM through fastboot (there are a few guides on XDA of how to do so). Flashing a new ROM through CWM will remove safestrap.

Yes unlocked. I will look it up. Thanks.
I believe you can also use backups made in Safestrap in TWRP (/data/ only)

You'll need to uninstall recovery through the actual SafeStrap app. Then, you'll need to delete the app and all the SS folders.
So I am getting the "cannot load cwm.img" on the command prompt.
cwm.img is in the same folder as fastboot and adb.
not sure what is up. Currently searching for solution....
EDIT: Typed full path. Seems to have worked....

Yep that's why. SafeStrap works seperate from your recovery. If you actually boot into recovery do you get CWM? If not, you'll probably need to re-flash it. When you re-flash, boot back into recovery prior to booting into OS. This will assure that the install script is complete. Otherwise, your stock recovery will override CWM.

Gotcha. Well I can uninstall it via a recovered system that still has safestrap on it. I did something weird trying to boot into CWM and when i start my phone it goes into the bootloader due to flash failure. I can override this with "fastboot continue", but i don't want to do something really bad... am I going to run into any issues if I get to CWM and flash a new rom?
Thanks for the help fellas
EDIT: Flash failure problem went away. Reflashed CWM, wouldn't boot via fastboot boot cwm.img, managed to get to recovery before system loaded... but still went to safestrap.. trying old fashioned SS uninstall now, then reflash, then boot into recovery.
EDIT 2: Uninstalled safestrap.. doesn't boot to bootloader now?
EDIT 3: Brought up safestrap on my eclipse rom, uninstalled safestrap. Went to bootloader. Flashed CWM supposedly successfully. Tried to run "fastboot boot cwm.img" only to get cannot load. Tried to go from bootloader to recovery manually (power button --> key press) but just loads up the OS.
Clueless now

Yeah unfortunately there's no command to boot recovery from fastboot.
You can try running "fastboot reboot" while holding the volume buttons right after flashing cwm. That should do the trick. It should boot to the boot selection menu, then you can choose to boot to recovery.
Also, thought you killed yourself when I read your other post...
fastboot boot cwm.img is one argument away from a very, very bad day... If you put "flash" before boot, you'd be in trouble... Lol
Maybe I should write up a root app that will rename install-recovery.sh... That's not a bad idea...

I always just power down the phone after flashing recovery and then manually reboot into recovery.
And done. Here's a link...

I forgot to declare superuser in the manifest... I know, shoot me. Needs root access and all that jazz. Run the app before flashing recovery

Installed on phone. Says found but disabled. Tried flashing cwm.img and rebooting into recovery. Still goes straight to OS...
Enable install-recovery doesn't work
this all seems very straightforward of a process that should be working...
Do I need to try wiping everything down as bare as possible?
Is this the process that works for others? Take safestrapped, rooted, bootloader unlock device on an old pre-bootloader-unlocked rom. Uninstall safestrap. Flash cwm.img using fastboot comand. Boot into recovery. Then you should be in CWM?

[Q] Can safestrap be removed and still run custom rom?

I have been flashing new roms alot on my att mk2 I337 and found one I really like. But twice during all the roms the phone either wiped safestrap or skipped it during startup. It would start right up without the safestrap recovery or continue option. This happen when flashing into the stock rom slot. I dont know why it did that. The first time it booted and worked fine except the wifi because I forgot the AT&TMK2kernelmodules.zip. I rebooted multiple times trying to get the recovery option. I finally reinstalled ss to get that in there. The second time it skipped it but got stock in bootloop. Stuck on the boot animation for the rom I was installing. I cant blame the roms for doing it because I get them running fine. I had to go back to stock with odin. But I was curious if once the rom is up and going could you uninstall ss? And skip the recovery/continue option. It would be neat if you could. Then just reinstall it if need. Although I can see if something happens you would probably need to use odin again.
Also while typing this I started wondering if there is a way to install safestrap through odin or some other way if the phone system isnt booting?
Thanks to all the devs and members on this site!

You can't install safestrap any other way except the APK. The only way to flash to Stock without removing Safestrap is if the ROM has AROMA installer and an option to not wipe system, because then you can wipe /system from the Safestrap menu and then install.
no
Just an Idea
You can install the SafeStrap apk file using the ADB (Android Debug Bridge) "install" command, as long as adb recognizes your phone. You can download everything you need from here. Although if you can't boot up your phone I don't see what you could do with the apk installed because you can't open the app to press the install button.
Quick tutorial on ADB:
1) Download the file above.
2) Unzip and navigate to the sdk folder > platform-tools.
3) Hold shift and right click inside the platform-tools folder. (Make sure you click on an empty space inside the folder, not on a file.)
4) Select "Open command window here".
5) Run the install command which you can find information on here.

[Q] Graviton ROM wifi/reboot Problems

Ok I am new here so be easy.
I have been searching and messing around with this for several days now and here is where I am at.
I Finally managed to root my sgh-i337 S4 using this method
" 1. Take the NI1 OTA update. (Should the update fail see troubleshooting section below).
2. Place your phone into "Download Mode" (press and hold the "Home", "Volume Down", and "Power" keys until the phone powers on and displays warning screen, then press "Volume Up" key).
3. Flash the I337_NC1_Stock_Kernel using Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
4. Root using Towelroot-v3.apk(internet access not required).
5. Power off then boot into "Download Mode" again.
6. Flash the I337_NI1_Stock_Kernel also in Odin's PDA slot(AP in Odin v3.09+).
7. Install SuperSU to manage root access. Done! "
I then used safestrap to back up my original rom and flash graviton into "slot-1"
Question 1:
I flashed the graviton rom and couldnt get my wifi to work
I would click the button and it would go on and then immediately back off
so i then redid everything and flashed both the graviton rom and the ATT_NI1_modules.zip kernel
I got the wifi to connect once and now it wont connect. What happens is i press the button and it slides right and stays there for a good 15 seconds then goes back to off.
I cant figure that out
Question 2:
Whenever I try to reboot or shut down the device the screen goes black but then my led pulses blue and nothing happens until I just hold down the power button until it fully shuts off.
can anybody point me in the right direction?
Thank you,
again I tried searching I had about 50 tabs open so if I missed something I am sorry
ROM slots are not fully supported yet. Flashing over stock would work. You can always use odin and restore stock if something goes wrong.

In safestrap, wipe everything except SD card under advanced settings. By kernel, I guess you are talking about the modules?

Yes the modules
So I just activated the stock rom,
wiped everything but the external sd in advanced
then flashed the graviton rom and the modules
I rebooted into system and it said "safestrap off"
I then got the graviton "loading snake"
During setup the wifi connected fine I tried rebooting and it rebooted fine
and now my wifi is working
but it seems that I am not rooted when I click super user it says no binary is installed
I think when i tried flashing the su updated that is what made my wifi stop working
Safestrap off is shown when using stock slot. You can ignore that.
You can get root back by flashing update su in safestrap.

GT-I9505 Constantly restarting

Hi all
Got an I9505 on O2 and since lollipop update it restarted a few times by itself. Now it keeps going into a loop where it will restart and the home screen loads, you can use it for about 20-30 seconds and it will reboot again!
Initially when I researched I though it was an app problem but couldn't find the culprit. Then I took it into the Samsung repair centre and they said it needed a clean flash by them. This didn't work and they fitted a new mother board and this still hasn't worked.
I can say that it has twice happened when the Wifi hasn't been working properly so I have turned it off but other than that I have no idea!
Also I have tried rebooting into safe mode but it still does it, aaarrrggghhhh!!!
Any ideas where I can go from here please?
P
Return to kitkat if you can. Otherwise use a custom rom. These would be my suggestions. Since Samsung's repair couldn't fix it, warranty should not be a problem anymore.
Thanks, I am more than willing to try a Custom ROM. Any recommendations? And how easy is it as never done before!

It's fairly easy. Depending on what S4 model you have. Some models have a locked bootloader and that makes the whole thing trickier.
This is what I did:
1) Root with CF-Auto-Root. Thread here.
2) Backup all my apps.
3) Install a custom recovery (TWRP). Download and instructions here.
4) Flash custom rom. Most roms have their own instructions.
You can skip 1 and 2 if you don't want to backup.
Installing a custom recovery can be done using Odin. I recommend TWRP since it's the only one I've used.
Lollipop GPE rom. I've used this rom and didn't have any issues. CM12 seems a bit faster, but the GPE was more stable and bug-free.
Thanks I tried to install the CM12 before you posted using the instructions there but it failed, I assume that it needs to be rooted.

You need a custom recovery to install any rom. It doesn't matter if it's rooted or not.
Get a custom recovery. Get all the necessary zip files (rom, gapps, etc). Place all the zip files on the external sd card. Boot into the custom recovery. Wipe /data, /cache and /dalvik-cache.
Go to Install (if on TWRP), go to the location where you saved the downloaded rom zip and select it. The swipe the slider to begin flashing. Afterwards flash the gapps zip. Reboot.
Also, don't use the recovery posted in the CM12 thread. It was specially made by the dev and will convert your file system to f2fs. What it basically means is that it will wipe your internal storage completely.

You don't have a custom recovery installed. That is probably the stock recovery. You can't flash a rom using the stock recovery.
You absolutely need a custom recovery if you want to flash a custom rom.
Custom recoveries are: TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project), CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery) and PhilZ Touch Recovery. Either one should work. But you necessarily need one.

Follow the link I gave you. They have several instrunctions on how to install TWRP. You can install TWRP with Odin too.
Here, There are 3 ways to install. Use Odin. It doesn't require root and should be the easier one. Just UNTICK auto-reboot in Odin before flashing. Once it's done, turn the phone off and use the key combo to get into TWRP recovery.

I guess that's the CM12 logo. First boot after flashing always takes some time because the rom is configuring stuff.
If you still don't get into android, turn off the device and turn it on again. If you've done everything correctly there is no reason why it shouldn't boot.

No problem. You could try a different build. Or you could try a CM12 based rom. SaberMod worked fine for me. And it's the closest to the actual CM12 you can get.

SaberMod is a rom. SaberMod CM12.1.
They are very similar. The difference is how they tackle optimizations.
Yes, you will have to flash it. But you can also stick with normal CM12 if you don't have any issues.
The google search box from the home screen or the recents?
You can change the launcher to get rid of it from the home screen.
To remove it from the recents there is an option somewhere in the settings.

Safestrap Note 3 bootloop ?

Appreciate any guidance!
Just got a Safestrap Note 3 NC4 it was running Alliance build 2.
When I got it it had 13gb of internal being used and seen lots of previos owners pictures etc… so I figured id download build 2 again to sdcard and restart from scratch.
I booted to TWRP.
Did a full wipe except MicroSd.
Did format typed yes and it immediately jumped into a Samsung bootloop.
I tried entering recovery again and it says recover loading and goes back to a bootloop.
It will go into download mode but that's it.
What do you suggest my next approach should be?
Thank you I'm traveling and no access to my PC for a few days so just preplanning.
If you wiped system, there's no rom to boot so you have to go into download mode and use Odin to install something. Or if you have system, go into recovery again and flash the rom you want.

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to use Odin to restore back to 4.4.2 NC4. Then root again with Towelroot, install busybox, and then Safestrap 3.75 again. That will give you a fresh start to put Alliance back on there if that's your plan.
As you found out, you only need to Swipe to factory reset before installing Alliance. I learned the same way that you did when I first got my Note 3 and had to start over again as well after formatting data .
When you Odin restore.... just make sure you don't put any newer stock firmware on the phone beyond 4.4.2 NC4, because there's no current root method for anything past 4.4.2 NC4. You should be able to get 4.4.2 NC4 from Sammobile.com.

So you say swipe to facory reset was all I needed to do? I shouldn't have done wipe and format?
Lets say you had Build 2 with safestrap and wanted to get a new clean install with build 2.
What was it should I have done to start clean?
Thank you for your detailed info bud!

Right.. don't use the separate "Format Data" option. From what I understand, it will always cause you to have the same bootloop issue that you just experienced.
I'm not 100% sure why... but I think it might wipe out something needed in Safestrap to allow the phone to boot... maybe the Stock slot... (maybe someone else will comment on this who has more knowledge?).
Someone in the ATT Safestrap thread suggested using the Safestrap File Manager to navigate to the folder "data/media/0," then deleting that folder as an alternative to the "Format Data" option. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it or not, but it's something you could research more to see if it would work.
Thank you very much!
