I've rooted my phone, and followed these instructions here http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-continuum/ to put CWM on and these instructions here http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/install-dl17-clean-rooted-android-2-1-rom-on-samsung-continuum/ to flash the ROM on. I also added tried adding these test kernels http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926555 as well.
None of this seems to have stuck. When I reboot the phone after clearing all data and caches in CWM and installing the ROM, it boots up to the standard Samsung Continuum interface. When I go into recovery mode again, it goes back to the standard Android recovery mode instead of CWM. I have also tried CWM manager, but it does not work because the Continuum is not on its list of phones to install the recovery, and because the recovery I manually install does not stick, i can't use the interface to install the rom.
Please, can someone point me in the right direction with what I did wrong/why the ROM does not seem to be working?

May i ask what you mean by, "standard Samsung Continuum interface"? Once you flash a rom, it is definitely going to "stick"... You know that this is just a cleaned up rom, right? no theming or anything? so it is going to look the same (excluding the launcher)...
One thing i can think of is to ake sure that in Mount in CWM that System is mounted, just to make sure..
Also, by following those posts, you SHOULD go to the original recovery screen... Then you need to press "apply:update.zip" or whatever to get into CWM.. if that doesn't work, then do this:
use ODIN to flash the recovery and kernel, and as soon as it is done, hold in the recovery button combination (power, vol up/down)... Sometimes thats the only way to get into it for some people...
Yeah, I just meant cleaned up. When I reboot, my phone still has touchwiz interface, Bing and bloatware. I do use the update.zip to get the CWM recovery screen, which works fine, but when I try to get into the recovery screen again, i have to reload the update file, and when I try to use Rom Manager is says that CWM is not installed.
In CWM, after loading the update file, it says that the three zip files are installed, but when I exit the recovery screen via reboot, the files that were supposedly installed do not take effect.
is "Mount" an option somewhere in the CWM commands?
Yea clockwork recovery won't stick. It's not supposed to. whenever you go into recovery mode you will have to load the update.zip every time. But I have the clean ROM flashed and the peanutbutta jelly time kernel and it's working just like it's supposed to. I think imnuts is working on getting the recovery to stay

i just tried flashing the peanutbutta jelly time kernal and clean DL17 and the two updates, but the phone freaked out after the samsung logo on reboot, scrambling the screen and looking frozen. I pulled the battery and reinstalled adrynalyne's test kernals and but now it is just booting to the regular factory OS.
oh and the system is mounted
After you flash the kernel the boot screen should mess up. It's fine after it boots though

Ok so waited for the phone to boot, but still booting to stock Samsung OS/interface. My flashing in CWM was as follows:
Delete data
Clear cache
Clear davlik
flash peanutbutta
flash DL17
flash email update
flash social app update
reboot
samsung logo, screen messed up but still hearing booting sounds, then finally loads into the stock samsung interface.
What am I doing wrong?
The stock samsung interface WILL remain, aka touch wiz. There will be a couple verizon apps that will remain with this rom. Also what version of cwmr are you using?
oh ok, that would be where the confusion lays. It was my understanding that it was detouchwizzed as well. Does debinging remove bing as the default and only search engine in the browser? is there a mod/ROM that de touchwizzes the continuum?
Also, I feel like this is a stupid question, but if i have this ROM on here, that means I won't be able to get OTA updates, correct?

I have a Nexus 7, rooted, running stock 4.1.1 rom, and just installed TWRP 2.1.1
I have been reading this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779092 , however I cannot post on the thread due to being a new/low post count member.
I read that, and it does happen, that each time I reboot, the stock recovery reinstalls itself.
I attempted to follow this....
NOTE: The stock ROM may automatically replace TWRP with the stock recovery. To prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP, boot TWRP, go to the mount menu and mount system, press the home button, then press Advanced -> File Manager. Browse to /system and select the file named recovery-from-boot.p then choose to rename the file to recovery-from-boot.bak

but it doesn't seem to work.
Firstly, when I go to the "Mount" menu, there is only 3 entries.....1 large button which says "Mount USB Storage", and 2 boxes which are selected with a cross in the box, "Unmount Data", and "Unmount Cache". If I do press Mount USB Storage I can only Unmount it to return to menu.
So regardless of that part, if I then go to the file manager, and browse to the system folder, the folder shows up empty, and the only thing showing is a Bin subfolder (also empty)
any ideas whats wrong?
Use the one-click root tool. Install TWRP via GooManager. Profit.

hi,
yeah I did use the tool, all is rooted fine. If you install TWRP from GooManager, and then press to reset to recovery, TWRP loads fine. Once you reboot again however, the stock roms overwriting the TWRP so it no longer works each time. The steps there were supposedly to stop this from happening, from within TWRP, however the options aren't even there. Sadly, I can't post in the TWRP thread due to having less than 10 posts
How r u booting into recovery? Do u power off then use button combo? I use quickboot from market. Its free and boots u into recovery without having to manually turn off the device. I had the same exact issue u drescribe when attempting to follow op instructions. I couldn't do it so I said what the hell, let me see if I boot into recovery using quickboot it overwrites. I was happy to discover that it didn't.

I booted into recovery directly from the GooManager option which restarts it into it for me. After a reboot though choosing the same option gives the official recovery I presume (android robot with chest open and exclamation mark)....until I tell it to install the OpenRecoveryScript again
I'm not familiar with Quickboot - take it its just a button to press to get it into recovery the same way as the GooManager option of "Reboot Recovery"?
I'm looking at this TeamEOS nightly build at the moment, toying with the idea of whether to stick with stock rom or flash their custom rom over it.....hard call as its still early days for the roms I think, but if spend ages again installing my apps, will have to do it again afresh when do eventually change the rom

Yes quickboot is as u describe. I know what u mean about starting to flash. It's a bit early for me considering conditions of the roms ( early stages). I am getting tempted tho...lol. won't be long I'm sure.

yup....just installed Quick Boot (Reboot),
chose Recovery, and again its rebooting back to the original recovery instead of the TWRP.
Guess I'll have to flash to a custom rom to get around it if want it sorting now....or wait till I have the minimum post count to post on the main TWRP thread
Not end of the world to reinstall apps and games I guess when the custom roms are more mature, so long as I remember to use Titanium Backup to save my games progress
you need to rename the recovery-restore.sh file in /system/etc/ (I forget the name offhand - if you look at the filenames there you'll figure it out). It restores the stock recovery at every reboot unless deleted or renamed. Then flash your 3rd party recovery.

thats the trouble.....I use the file manager in TWRP, and I can't see that file anywhere.
The TWRP page says to go to /system......but when I go there its empty, only one subfolder, /system/bin, which also shows up empty

first I'd like to say that since the first day, I really....hate my Galaxy S4, this is probably the phone I hate the most actually. This is why I wanted to get rid of this stupid stock ROM (who the hell wants all this preinstalled on his phone ?!)
I flashed it from the CWM Rom manger with Cyanogen Mod 10.1 and it's been stuck on the CM logo since 3 hours, I tried entering into recovery mode, but it boots on the stock recovery.
Please, help me..
You can fix this. You have to reflash stock firmware again since something clearly went wrong and you cant do anything.
1. Download Odin ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539 )
2. Download the stock ROM image ( http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-I337 ) Large File. Unzip the file to get the .tar.md5 file you will need.
3. Download and install Samsung Kies (Installs Drivers)
4. Boot the phone into "Download Mode" (From http://www.ninjaromeo.com/download-mode-samsung-galaxy-s4/ for i9500 but same procedure)
Unplug phone
Switch off your Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500 Android Smartphone.
Now press and hold “Volume Down + Power + Home” buttons together for a little bit of time.
After appearing Samsung logo release the buttons.
Then you will move on to Warning page.
Read the warning before going to proceed.
As the given on screen instruction, press Volume Up button to enter into download mode.
The you will see the page with Android logo and “Downloading, Do not turn off target!!”
If you don’t want to move on download mode, just press Volume Down button in the proceed page.
5. Plug Phone into PC. Open Odin. Select "PDA" and point it to the large firmware file that you downloaded that has a .tar.md5 extension.
6. Click "Start". This will reflash the stock recovery and firmware. It will retain your Data partition. Odin will inform you when it's done. Then close Odin.
You now have a functioning phone. Yay!
Backup everything you need to back up from your data partition to your PC or a microSD card.
If you want to Flash CM10.1

Hello, I did everything except the CM10.1 part and succesfully managed to boot my phone onto stock rom, but can't even make it work. Just after booting, it's a completely black screen with the notification bar on top (can't reveal it)

Try the emergency restore / recovery option in Kies. I have never done it but many people have had to after a bad flash. Not sure how you lost your custom recovery. I had issues with a rom I flashed and for stuck at boot but my recovery was fine so I restored my nandroid.
Try wiping your Data partition. Should fix that. Just hook the device up to a computer and copy your stuff off it first. Stock firmware was restored so any lingering problems would be related to stuff in the Data partition. Should be able to boot the stock recovery and do a factory reset which will also wipe the data partition.
As mentioned above you dont need the whole Kies suit. You can just install USB drivers. To make it simple as possible I stated using Kies but you can obtain the drivers elsewhere and install them rather than the whole Kies suit.

I can't even browse files from my computer, my phony is only detected by Odin ATM.
The stock recovery gives me two options: Quit, Download mode.....

This is what I did.
Stock ROM doesn't even work now, when I boot it for the first time it's a black screen with the notification bar on top and I can't get out and need to remove the battery.
OMFG
REMOVED SIM AND SD CARD AND THE PHONE BOOTED !

I have an sgh-i377 (att usa), i installed a 4.3 rom using safestrap since i dont have cwm, now it's stuck in the samsung galaxy s4 logo, it wont boot, i tried to download the stock 4.3 from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SGH-I337 but it doesnt list anything, can you please show me where I can download sgh-i377 stock 4.3 from?
I tried going into the android recovery and wiping all caches but nothing. your help is greatly appreciated.

what should I do next?

Hello all,
My brother has been having problems with his Google Play store (force closing, etc) as well as some other Google services. He wasn't even able to actually load Play Store and browse, so to fix his problem I decided the best route would be to start clean and do a factory reset. This worked well, for about 2-3 hours until he told me he wanted me to put the Google Edition 4.3 JB ROM on his phone. (He's a hipster, trololol)
So I looked up the thread of the AOSP Google Edition 4.3 JB for his GT-I9505. Having flashed my Galaxy S3 many times with UltimaROM and various other ROMs, I figured his S4 wouldn't be much different to any of the other Galaxy devices we've had in the past. So I download TWRP, and also rooted his phone via Motochopper. Once I installed TWRP I hit wipe and wiped the data and dalvik cache. Then I installed the ROM. Few moments later and we reboot the phone.
Phone decides to go into a boot loop, so I go back into TWRP and wipe again like I would with my Galaxy S3, but still getting a boot loop.
I really should have made a back-up of his original stock ROM (I made a boo-boo, I know ) but I figured he had nothing to lose. The problem now is that I can't flash any other ROMs because normally I would just transfer the .zip's onto the phone and then install from there. He doesn't have an SD card either, and mines doesn't work anymore (water damage...).
So my question is, what other ways can I transfer .zip's onto his phone so we can flash another ROM and not let his phone be a huge expensive paper weight.
I know about ADB and I downloaded the ADT Bundle from Google's site, but I have no idea how to execute adb or fastboot. They open cmd but then immediately shutdown again after a flash of a wall of text.
I'm able to access recovery & download modes fine. I've tried "mount" but when it mounts the S4, Windows doesn't pick up on it like it would if I were to do MTP otherwise I'd be able to transfer files no problem.
Can anyone help please?
man...use PhilzRecovery and use adb to flash the rom!
Put the flashable zip in the same folder wich contains adb.
Select from PhilzRecovery "install zip from sideload"
Connect the phone to pc and in the adb window type "adb sideload ..........." (wehere "............." is the name of the flashable zip.
I restored my phone once in this way
otherwise...buy a cheam 2gb micro sd card and put the flashable zip on it.
Select install zip from sdcard and that`s it.
Or you can use adb file explorer to copy the flashable zip on internal memory
there are many solutions for your problem.
The easyest would be the one using "adb sideload"

PS: to open adb window do this way "press and hold shift while click-ing right click on the folder that contains adb files"
you will get a menu containg "open command window here" and click on it!
In the windows that appears type "adb devices" just to see if the phone is correctly recognised by windows.
Remember that using Philz Recovery is the most secure way.
Twrp has some weird problems formatting data(i don`t know why)
to put the phone just boot into recovery mode and adb should recognize your phone!

Ok I think I may have bricked / soft-bricked the phone. I've tried flashing the stock ROM (different firmwares) with and without a PIT file and they all keep failing. Yet if I flash a ROM like Cyanogen Mod it'll get to the Cyanogen Mod boot screen, but then crash there?
The phone is definitely a i9505, so I can't see what the hell I'm doing wrong. :/ It was an Orange UK model, but it was factory unlocked when bought new and he's been using o2 sim's ever since.
All I do is flash .tar.md5's with Odin 3 v1.85, and then install .zip's in the recovery (Philz Recovery)
For the stock ROM I'm just flashing with Odin.
I've never had so much drama with a phone before. -__-
EDIT: Solved this on my own. Had to flash MH8 since I'm on a secured bootloader.

It depends on how the Dev set up the rom to be installed. Typically if the rom is .zip, you can install it with TWRP. Once you have downloaded your rom, copy it to your phone to a folder so you can find it easily. Reboot to TWRP and hit the Install button. Then navigate to your folder that has the rom in it and click on it. It should go through the install process and when its done, go back to the main TWRP menu and hit WIPE. If you are changing roms, you have to wipe your data or it won't boot up.
Also when you flash a rom, you are also flashing recovery from that rom and wiping out your TWRP install for that slot. You can re-install if you want.
Usually if your installing an after market rom, the dev will give you installation instructions. Most of the time they use Fastboot & ADB for these double slot phones since TWRP has not been available since its inception until lately.
