I upgraded my phone to the 2/10/2014 Nightly and it was running ok for a day or so. Then when I went to check my email I started getting massive app and system crashing. I was constantly getting com.google.process.gapps along with apps themselves FC.
I have been running the same version of Gapps on the phone since the beginning, and have installed a bunch of CM 11 nightlies before this. I have CWM 6.0.4.4 for a recovery. I always wipe cache and Dalvik when I do a nightly. The Gapps version I was using was gapps-kk-20140105
Here is where the weird starts. All the partitions are read only, or so it appears. If I wipe user data in CWM the phone reboots to my old profile. If I try to flash a newer nightly, it installs ok but the phone boots to the 2/10 version. If I try to install a different recovery it installs ok but will reboot to CWM.
I can successfully push an image through Matt's utility (1.20 and 1.30), I can push a image through RSD, I can push an image through HouseofMoto. The images actually successfully transfer but the phone reboots to the 2/10 rom. Their appears to be no way for me to regain write access. I can't re-root the phone through Matt's utility because when the phone boots it establishes a USB media connection but never gets into ADB mode(shows device offline). I've tried toggling the setting on and off and it doesn't make a difference.
Also, when the phone boots, I can access my external SD card along with the internal but I can't read or write to it etiher. If I take the card out I can transfer files to it through my PC's SD card slot(with an adapter) and put it back in..but whatever is going on is locking out write access to everything on the phone.
I have even tried flashing through fastboot using dos commands, and the flashes appear successful but the phone reboots to it's old config every time. I have "bricked" stuff before, but this is the first time I am at a total dead end for a fix....and this time I didn't really do anything! lol
I also tried various USB cables/ports/PC's, same result.

Your recovery has been cwm only? Never twrp? I have never seen the issue associated with cwmr.
Read this op it may help too.

Thanks for the reply, I will give the utility a shot when I get home. ADB is flaky because processes keep crashing, hopefully I can maintain it long enough to run this utility. I was able to get it past the initial ADB connection but it's failing on check updates since I am behind a corporate firewall and use a proxy.

My apologies, as I wasn't sure where to post this.
For a long time now I've been running CM7 both the nightlies and the weeklys with no issues. Yesterday I decided I would try Neutrino ROM and installed GT 2.5. After that I noticed I had no data connection so I attempted to patch the ROM using Notorious's recommendations to no avail so I installed 2.2 and the Google addons, Sync, etc..
All was working great, however everyone said 2.5 was better in the forums so I installed it again today and attempted to patch as explained and this time was successful. I had data connection again and all was well. About an hour later I went to use my phone and it was completely black.
I attempted to power it up and nothing happened. I finally had to pull the battery and was able to get it to boot up properly, however my data connection was gone again. I ran the sysctl -p command in terminal again and rebooted it to no avail. I finally decided to go back to 2.2 which worked properly last night, however after installing from the zip and the addon zips it went to the 'Dual Core' screen and then rebooted back to the 'Dual Core' screen and keeps doing that.
I attempted to go into Recovery Mode, however when it says 'Entering Recovery Mode' it just goes black and I can't power it back on. I then have to reseat the battery before I can get it to work.
I guess at this point, is there anything I can do to get my phone back? I've seen the hard brick messages and I don't have that (yet), but I am not sure, because I apparently can't get that far. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. I recommend taking it to a service center ( for me ATT has one I use.) and sometimes they can boot it up. Or they can maybe give you ideas.
Just to confirm you can't boot anything right??

Thanks for the response. I was unable to boot into Android Recovery, however I hadn't tried the others. After numerous searches I found information on how to use moto-fastboot to install RomRacer's Recovery image and after doing that I was able to get into Recovery (phew!). I did a complete wipe on the phone (Dalvik, system, etc) and installed Neutrino 2.2 with Lite gapps, United States (GPS), Sync, and Gtalk (for video) and shockingly it finally booted into the rom. I think at this point I'll leave it alone after restoring my apps via Titanium Backup.
My phone is now working again. Hopefully I can keep it that way.

My friend rooted his Galaxy Tab, and attempted to install a custom rom on it. For some reason, he flashed a jelly bean gapps zip, and now all of the google apps force close (still on the stock rom). This happens even after a full wipe and factory reset, since I would assume the wrong gapps has still been flashed. I downloaded ROM manager from the tablet's browser and tried flashing CWM recovery, but when I reboot into recovery, it just shuts off, and after a while, it's reverted back to the stock recovery (where I can't install zip from sdcard). In addition to this, for some reason, the tablet never gives the option to view files and folders on PC when connected via USB, so I can't even copy the zip files over (USB debugging is enabled). There isn't even any mount/unmount options in the storage settings.
What's going on here, and how can I fix this? As of now, it seems I can't do anything and I may just give it back to my friend.

If you're looking to restore the tablet back to original purchased state then check out this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342995
Install Kies before using Odin as that will give you the proper drivers assuming you're using a Windows PC. The drivers will install the first time that you have Odin set up and you have the tablet in download mode. More than likely, even though you clicked start, Odin will sit or hang like it's waiting for something. If it sits for a while without doing anything at all, early on, close Odin and restart the setup process again. This time around the drivers are already installed and it should go smoothly from there. The tablet will restart on its own when its finished and after long boot you'll be greeted by the intial setup. It should naturally do about 3 software updates once setup is complete. That means that it will download the 1 update at a time and ask you if you want to install. After each reboot you should see more downloading activity until updates are complete I recommend after the very first boot you shut off mobile data and use Wifi only as these updates may munch up data...
Good luck.:fingers-crossed:
Wow, I really appreciate your response. I'll try this out later today, and post back with what happened (Can't right now as I'm at work). Thanks for your help!
Hi, this is my first post here. I'm new into Android and I've always updated my Nexus 4 when the system prompts me to do it. Today, I got the notification to update from 4.3 to 4.4... I did it and restarted my phone. Then I got (and have been) stuck on the boot sequence after the Google logo. The thing is that I've tried to wipe and restart the phone by Bootloader (I don't know if I lost all of my files) and didn't work out. So now I'm trying with Nexus Root Toolkit but I don't know if that will work. I'm really needing some help, here in Venezuela not so many people have this cellphone and I really don't know how to proceed. I'm upset with Google for these kind of fails, my phone was working 100% good. Please help me! Sorry if my english is not so perfect.
I did experience the same.
Never rooted or unlocked bootloader & I was patiently waiting for OTA. It came and it was the worst thing to happen! Infinite bootloop!
I waited 2 hours, before I restarted the phone, but in vain. No use!
I never enabled debug settings, so i couldn't use ADB command and it wasn't recognizing my device!
Here is what worked for me:
1. Unlock bootloader (using fastboot command)
2. use fastboot to flash the factory image
3. I did remove (-w) wipe option, but still lost my data.
however image works, now phone is back to life!
Same case, nothing works.
I had the same problem, go stuck on a boot loop and then it just said 'no command' or 'error' with an android lying down. Im a noob so i used ncry toolkit to reset it to factory 4.3 and then i upgraded to 4.4 again and all worked fine. Did lose data though, but i had it all backed up.
Do a clean flash of KitKat via fastboot.

I'm in the same situation as most... Sadly I updated via the OTA distro that was released a few days ago. I looked into rooting options and I got the "go ahead" from a thread somewhere, saying it is a minor update. Knowing how easy it was to restore root priveliges when I upgraded from 4.2 to 4.3, I trusted their encouragement and installed the update. Then, like everyone else, I got stuck in the bootloop at the "circles" screen.
As a last resort, I tried to factory reset to no avail. I cleared the dalvik cache and wiped the cache partition a few times... Then I tried restoring it to factory defaults, again! Same results every time. Unfortunately, because of where it gets hung up, I can't seem to get my computer to talk to it. I certainly can't access the SD Card to do any backing up, but can look at the contents through CWM recovery mode (v6.0.2.3).
It's been awhile since I last was active in flashing my phone, so while I no longer consider myself a noob, I am definitely back to being a beginner. The fastboot commands don't seem to work, as I get stuck at "<waiting for device>". Does anyone know if there is a way to force it into a drive mode? Any additional help with this matter would be greatly appreciated, as currently it seems Google has bricked my phone!
Last question, it looks like it may be possible to force a mount through CWM; is that true using the "mounts and storage" menu? I spoke to Google briefly and they were of no help (they just told me to call LG). I'm going to try going into the T-Mobile store and seeing what they will say, but I'm not holding my breath for them to come up with a solution; I'm relying on the community to help me out!

Sorry to sound so dumb, but can you point me in the right direction to find instructions on how to do that with Linux?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2302780
Its actually way easier to set it up on Linux than on windows.
Edit: java jdk6 was giving me issues on install so I used openjdk instead and it works perfect.
Edit: (last one, I promise), I don't know how new you are to Linux but if you are super new, anytime that guide mentions "code" in a box, copy and paste one line at a time into the terminal. Leave out the dollar signs when copying.

I bought a used Nook Color this spring on ebay, already rooted. It is JellyBean 4.1.2, CM10-20121216-UNOFFICIAL, ParanoidAndroid 2.99. It had Goo Manager, but not TWRP that I could tell.
It's always gone into boot loops, when I asked the seller he said use Goo Manager to look for an update. There has never been an update found. I tried installing TWRP through Goo Manager today, but it tells me no recoveries found. May have managed to install from the computer's Play Store, haven't been able to check yet because it is still looping. (Does not look like it downloaded, many updates were ahead of it.)
The past few weeks it has spent more time rebooting than working. Cyanoboot loads, but the little jellybean guy just glows and the eyes move around on the beans. Sometimes it will load after awhile, sometimes it takes hours. I have it charging the whole time, but it does not charge while it is looping. Once it finally loads and I unlock it, it shows a popup that Process Service isn't responding. If I hit wait, it will load.
The NC did not come with a charger, I bought a non-OEM charger on Amazon that was listed as NC-compatible. It seems to work fine, although doesn't quite keep up when watching video or anything screen-intensive. I normally leave the NC plugged in when I am home, when it comes out of the looping it is usually in the 90 plus percent range. I tried leaving it unplugged overnight while looping once, it ran down fairly low but recharged fully after finally loading.
For a week or two before the constant looping started, two other issues appeared. When I woke it up in the morning, it would not be connected to wifi. The icon is just an outline, and when I check under settings it says scanning for wifi networks. If I reboot, it connects fine.
The second problem is the SD card keeps unmounting. Generally I will get a popup from Evernote that the SD card has changed. Most of the time if I go into settings > storage I can see that the card is unmounted and tell it to mount. Sometimes it says it is mounted, so then I reboot. Today I noticed the internal card was also showing as unmounted. I was able to mount both, at least until the NC rebooted itself again. I'm using a SanDisk Ultra (Class 10) 32 GB card.
It finally loaded, but looks like no wifi again. Battery is at 92 percent. It did finally manually connect after telling me avoided due to poor connection (about 5 feet tops away from the modem).
Would re-rooting or flashing a new ROM work, or is something else wrong? Why can't Goo Manager find any updates?
Thanks for any help!
I used that ROM for a while, it had some issues, but for the most part I enjoyed it. The SD I mounting issue can usually be solved by formatting it with your computer, and the bootloops can be fixed by reinstalling the ROM. Make a twrp sd card. (There's a thread in here somewhere) and reinstall it, or install other roms if you decide you don't like this one.
---------- Post added at 03:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:19 PM ----------
Also, goo manager simply doesn't work with the pa 2.99 rom. Don't know why.

I can't find any recoveries, finally managed to install ClockworkMod's ROM Manager and it says both ClockworkMod and TWRP recoveries are there somewhere. SD card was unmounted again and while remounting it went into a bootloop again
Off to look for the twrp card thread, thanks!
My i9505 was running stock KitKat from Samsung and I tried to install CM13 ROM.
So I used Odin to root the phone and installed TWRP 2.8.6.0. After that I flashed the CM13 ROM and the Gapps Nano.
I got as far as rebooting into CM13. But then the "Google Play Store has stopped working" message keeps popping up starting from the initial setup phase. I ignored the message and went on to setup the wifi but couldn't progress any further. The wifi was detected and connected but then it was stuck on the Checking Connection/Software Update step.
I tried to reflash the rom and gapps again to no avail. The third time to Format Data from TWRP before reflashing - still didn't make a difference.
What's worst is now I cannot even get into TWRP! Whenever I press Vol Up + Power + Home, it will show the small 'entering recovery' message momentarily on the top left corner but then it phone simply restarted again.
I tried re-flashing TWRP using Odin, but still didn't work.
I'm stuck now, cannot get into the OS nor the recovery. Any suggestion as to what to do?
Thank you.

Format Data from twrp sometime corrupts the file system and brick the phone. (It's happened to me once)
The best way is to flash official firmware via odin and start from there.
I see - I'll try re-flashing the official rom. Btw, would you recommend CWM recovery instead then? Honestly, I'm not very proficient with this whole thing. The reason why I formatted was because I still could see all of my old folders in the phone memory. So I thought Factory Reset didn't really clean up my old rom data.
What do I have to do if I want to start with a really clean slate with CM13 (after reflashing the official one first)?
Also, I still have the issue of CM13 setup being stuck at the Software Update step (right after Wifi setup). Any clue why that happened?
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

CWM is outdated. Your best bet is TWRP. Try version 3.0.0.
Factory reset doesn't wipe your internal memory, if that's what you mean, you will have to do it manually.
Also, I recommend wiping data, cache, dalvik and system partitions manually from the advanced wipe menu. Factory reset only wipes data and caches, not system.
Oh, and about that stuck at setup issue, just skip that step if possible, you can still change that crap later
If you are unable to set up the ROM, you could flash back to a completely stock ROM and start over.
OK, I'm back on stock Android now.
Before I try flashing CM13 again, I just need suggestions about these two issues I had from previous try:
Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped
I have searched for similar issues but can't quite pinpoint the cause. I used the correct GApps for my device and I also removed my SD card prior to installing.
Stuck on Check Connection/Software Update step
Last time I was stuck at this point and, responding to GDReaper, this step couldn't be skipped. The option was grayed out.

The sd card has nothing to do with it.
Sometimes gapps don't work on certain roms.
Just try another package.
If you use A-Gapps, the whole first time setup step will be skipped altogether. So that means that you won't run into the risk of getting stuck at that step again.
Or, after flashing the rom, you could use the recovery file manager to delete the setupwizard.apk after you flashed gapps. That should also prevent the initial setup process from initializing at first boot.

You probably used Opengapps. That also gives me a lot of errors.
Use Bankgs Gapps instead. They always work for me.

I used Open GApps, as was recommended in the CM13 post. So are you saying that my two issues were caused solely by the GApps? Because I thought me being stuck at Software Update was due to something else.

I used Open GApps, as was recommended in the CM13 post. So are you saying that my two issues were caused solely by the GApps? Because I thought me being stuck at Software Update was due to something else.

The initial setup process is related to gapps. And I don't recall there being any software update requests during the initial setup. It tells me to wait while it scans for network and WiFis, but I always skip those steps.
Open gapps sometimes work and sometimes they don't. It varies from day to day, since they are updated daily.
Just find a gapps package that works and stick to it until another version of android.
I just want to report back that my CM13 works perfectly with Banks GApps. Thanks to everyone who has helped!
