When I enable clear type in landscape mode by editing the registery :
Changing the value of HKLM\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings\OffOnRotation from 1 to 0 it works BUT only for a while, then it reverts back to 0 and
I don't have clear type when I pull out the keyboard. Does anyone know how to make it stay? (it worked in the wizard without any problems)
Thanks.
Ken
I use nScriptm freeware from www.s-k-tools.com and a simple script. I made a shortcut in the startup folder to run this script w/o showing the console window.
BTW the same script sets PIE cache size to 4096MB for me - a value that is reset every boot as well.
Easy peasy...why make things harder
Download TwkCL from here...
http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=2005022517002183
or if you can't just searchfor it.
Place it in your Windows - Startup folder.
Select it to run it, nothing will happen but it HAS ben enabled.
Then you simply soft-reset your device.
Et Voila! You have Cleartype always enabled in landscape mode.
It wouldnt work properly anyway... MS Cleartype counts on horizontal orientation of R-G-B triplet in LCD matrix, it can not do "vertical subpixel rendering", only horizontal.
So if you forcefully enable it in landscape, it would smooth text in perpendicular direction, making it more blurry instead of actual resolution enhancement.
Actually it works perfectly...the text looks EXACTLY the same either way.
Been using it ever since I had my JAM.
It doesnt. Surely, you see the difference, but only in Portrait it actually works as intended. In Landscape you get same result youll get if you grab a screenshot from Cleartype text and rotate it - if you'll read how cleartype actually works, you'll understand that this would obliterate the main idea of it.
Even MS said that numerous times. The only advantage you get in landscape is "smoother" fonts, but that came with drawback of reduced sharpness and also more visible "color outlines" on letters (while in portrait when cleartype works as intended sharpness is not reduced and color outlines is a lot less visible).
Read this article - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleartype
It would help you to undestand the mechanics of it.
I actually found the answer to my own question. For the TyTN, you have to change HKLM\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings\ROTATION\LandscapeMode from 1 to 0 and it'll stay. It works. No need to load any programs in the startup folder.
Ken
under gdi?
I can't find it, there's cleartypesetting and rotation, not rotation undercleartype.
Please clarify
Actually, don't you mean change the HKLM/System/GDI/ClearTypeSettings/ROTATION value from 0 to 1? ClearType will be on in landscape mode then.
@Ingvarr: you are correct but it still looks better when ClearType is enabled IMO

I guess its up to personal preferences... Iam very color sensitive, I guess thats why I cant bear visible color smudges at fonts edges in landscape
I've just used Magic SS to take screenshots of each and it looks the same even after a side by side zoomed in comparison down to the last pixel.
It looks the same to me. Maybe I'm losing it.

Hi, does this actually stay for you?, I had that set awhile back, and it would revert to the oem settings after a few soft resets or shutdowns.
I also like cleatype in landscape on, I do understand why its off by default, but I guess its really up to ones own prefrences, I changed the system font, and the cleartype makes the font look much better, It could possibly be that I need to up the font size.
Just a tip..if anyone decides to play with the system font, put the font in your windows directory, not the fonts folder, maybe everyne else already knew this, but I used the fonts folder at first...and it worked, but caused glitches.
Sorry to ramble off topic for a bit.
No, I do mean change the value from 1 to 0
If it is at 1, Clear Type would not be enabled in Landscape mode
If it is at 0, Clear Type WOULD be ENABLED in Lanscape mode

This doesn't work for me.
At first, I made the new key as kittiyut instructed because there was no key in defalut:
HKLM/System/GDI/ClearTypeSettings/ROTATION/LandscapeMode and set its value to 1
But this didn't work anything.
And then, I changed registries as follows and it seems OK before I soft-reset with stylus.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings]
"OffOnRotation"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION]
"LandscapeMode"=dword:00000000
But after stylus reset, OffOnRotation=1 comes alive again.
I think TwkCL is the only solution for Hermes now.

Well, thats exactly what is wrong - you see, you take screenshots, that doesnt capture actual micro-lamp layout on your LCD screen - and this is what ClearType uses to actually _enhance_ resolution. To correctly see it, you should take _photos_ of screen
Read the Wikipedia page, you'll understand it It it would work properly, landscape one would be different from portrait - in landscape LCD triplets go in "vertical" way relatively to the text, while in portrait they go in horizontal way relatively to the text.

the correct tweak is HKLM/System/GDI /ClearTypeSettings and setting the onoffrotatation dword from 1 to 0
I myself just realized after your post that the key people had been changin doesn't exist, and it hadn't been mentioned to create one...no wonder people were sayin they couldn't find it, and it will revert back to 1 after a few resets anyhow, like you mentioned.
After much gnashing of teeth and fudging around with registry settings, I agree that TwkCL in startup seems to be the only way to get ClearType in landscape mode currently....
But none of these solutions does not work with AKU 3.3...
Edit: Works, works,... Need to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\GDI\ROTATION] "LandscapeMode"=dword :00000000
and copy TwkCL to startup.
BubbleLevel v1.02
My first attempt at utilizing the Touch Diamond's accelerometer. And it's free!
The sensor is a Kionix KXSD9.
Donate a cup of coffee!
Thanks for donating on my birthday: Damien (€2,00)
and another thank you for Nuno (€1,00)
Features:
- Measure the slope of a surface using the 'bubble level' concept
- Display the slope angle in degrees
- Real time display and calibration of sensor data
- Can be used upside down too (go measure yer ceiling matey!)
Changelog:
v1.02
- Added verbose calibration screen
- Real time sensor data monitoring
- Implemented two-direction calibration method (for absolute sensor bias compensation as suggested by Kionix)
- Calibration data is stored to memory (used for BubbleLevel only!)
v1.01
- Added icon and placed shortcut in Programs (instead of Start Menu)
- Fixed bug of bubble flying away >42 lightyears when device is tilted at 90 degrees, causing a warp core breach (thanks akito)
v1.00
- Initial release
You developers never cease to amaze me. Great work! XDA-Dev is wonderful!
Sounds nice ! So this software will let us be able to calibrate the Touch Diamonds Accelerometer?
I have downloaded the cab and installed it but how to use it?
I'm going to try this!! Thanks for posting it and letting us try :-D

The shortcut's in your Start Menu. Click the Windows flag to get to it; I will find a nice icon and add a decent Programs shortcut later on

Okay got it working now.. But when i calibrate and exit the program it resets the settings back to before it was calibrated.. So it doesnt save the calibration..
Brilliant!
Now if the Diamond had a flat back cover, I could actually use this for a bit of DIY
Bug found ;-)
Whether calibrated or not, when I hold my phone completely vertical making it show about 87 degrees of more the program crashes... actually my whole phone crashes cause I can't exit the program anymore and need to push the reset button
can anyone post some screens? my diamond is up and away for repair
edit: sorry my browser took some while to load the pic on the first post so I didn´t see it.

Thanks akito, I could indeed reproduce that behaviour quite easily... I guess I need some exception handling when doing vector dot product calculations
Will fix this asap.
Edit: Fixed in v1.01, check start post!
Version 1.01
Where can we download version 1.01 of Bubblelevel? Because the above problem still exists in the version which can be downloaded on the first page.

Please check the About box in the program for the version number. The cause for the bug mentioned above is removed in v1.01, but you might have come across another situation. Please let me know if you find out when it happens exactly, thanks!
wasn't this program supposed to calibrate the accelerometer?
No. the calibration is only valid in the app.

Could it maybe be tweaked somehow so that it can calibrate globally, so that it will effect other software too ? Would be perfect.. !
Thanks for this software. Very Cool
Hi, could you please give me some advice how to programm with the g-sensor..
i have an idea for a small programm that uses the sensor...
i already found the "HTCSensorSDK" but when i want to load the project files within C# Express 2008 i became an error that the project files could not opend...

Will this work with Omnia (i900) too?
it should also be possible to check if something is completely vertical.
when i hold my phone in the vertical position and tilt it a little bit the numbers change.
could you add indicators for vertical and horizontal bubblelevel?
could you also lower the refresh rate a little bit. the numers keep jumping making reading them almost impossible.
As the titlequestion says, is it possible? I want my X1 to stay in landscapemode, AT ALL TIMES.
Registry, hack or impossible? All answers accepted
Um... I won't be of much help here, because I don't know how it was done, but i heard it was possible. So keep searching .
Start->Settings->System(Tab)->Screen->General(Tab) Screen Orientation Portrait/Landscape Dunno if permanent until you change it.
Yes, it's possible using mortscript. Then one would wonder, why would you want that?
Easy thing:
Get Schaps Advanced Config tool. Go to the setting where you can set the display orientation. Set 270 degrees to "True", 0, 90, 180 to "False".
The slideout will no longer rotate back to portrait now.
Keep in mind that other tools (AEButton, QuickMenu) can still rotate the screen if they want.

Scenario: I type in an adress in Opera, and slide in the keyboard; - the phone changes orientation (to my irritation). I have several other scenarios that (certainly) only annoy me..

You've been very helpful, and I thank you The ultimate would of course be to find a registrysetting that cancels the whole orientationchangethingy, but this will absolutely help.

And i want to add that you can asign a button to do that, i mean one of the to button in config, the soft button the ones that we used to hard reset phone...

Have done so. Doesn't work in for instance opera
I own a HTC Touch HD.
I often use my phone in my car to navigate and place the phone onto the dashboard.
I recognized that theres a heavy reflection on the windscreen at night.
It would be nice to use that as kind of a head-up-display, u know?
the problem is, that the image is wrong, it has to be flipped.
So, is there a porgramm to flip and rotate the phone screen?
normal:
That how it should be (faked it with paint )
thx for your help

There's already apps that do that. Try searching again.
Also, try Gyrator (http://thewingster.com/gyrator.aspx) and see if you can tweak the settings so that when the phone is tilted that way, it actually flips the screen the other way!
I think you could do it with Gyrator, since there's some good settings to tweak in there.
will try that.
of course, rotating the screen is no problem.
to tilt / flip it is the prob.
I'll test gyrator now.
thx

Idk, looks like its not possible through Gyrator. Maybe there's another app, but I gotta go to school.
Nobody?
I understand you what u mean Dude
You dont neet ot rotate the screen with Gyrator you need a MIRROR EFFECT
You need to rotate the screen with Mirror effect and i don`t know for now any app that can do this.
Maybe you need to ask some dev.. to create something like this...
All the Apps that Rotate the screen will not help you because on your car window on the night you always will see not the actual Image and will get confused... the RIght will be left and etc
So better edit your post and write that you are looking for a MIRROR EFFECT FLIP
Yeah, u got what i mean
Will edit post.
Good evening, I changed phone in December and I have a Samsung s8 in perfect condition that I would like to pass to my wife, but turning it back on after time I noticed that on the left display stands an annoying white stripe at the edge of the vertical curve .. Right now. Done the various tests both normal and in safe mode and ascertained that the problem is hardware (having it checked by a Technician) my question is: is there a way to disable that line of pixel?
Being a peripheral area of the display is therefore not always used I would prefer at this point to be turned off because in the dark it really bothers .. Thanks to those who will help me ..
It looks like hardware damage.
I know.. That's why I wanted to try to modd the measurements of the display in such a way as to "turn off" the curves, or blacken them, and leave the rest of the display on... Always if it can be done
Check if Samsung allows you to run WindowManager. If it does, the change is permanent and remains after rebooting the phone.
The simplest description of how it works is here:
Android display offset/change position
Is it possible to offset the entire display content / change its position using adb shell? As i recently noticed it is possible to change the resolution . adb shell wm size <Res>. So , i was
stackoverflow.com
Play with the settings and you will see how easy it is.
You can always restore the settings with the command
Code:
adb shell wm overscan reset
Unfortunately I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject... Could you help me? Which app should I use? Do I have to act as a smartphone or a computer?

Small update... I managed to get the adb command prompt to work. I did some tests of shrinking the size of the display that succeeds very well, but that strip of pixels remains on ... Maybe I get the command wrong and I don't have to act on the Size?
In the adb shell just write wm then you will see the available options. You need the overscan option.
p.s.
You can only hide the white stripe with black adhesive tape.
