Hello everybody and thank you in advance.
After replaicing a faulty battery, everything was great until a couple of days ago. I did not install anything or change any setting or did nothing different from usual. I used to arrive at the end of the day with at least 50% battery with Push Email, bluetooth with gear and headset always connected, medium to haevy usage, listening to music, phone calls and so on. With the new battery I was very happy. Now, out of the blue, the battery drains very fast and the phone stays 100% awake.
Maybe some stupid auto update screw up something, but I have no idea what. I posted the screenshots from BBS.
please let me know if you need any more information.
The phone has stock ROM and it is not rooted.
Thanks again!

It seems your smart features(smart stay/smart scroll) are on. So try turning them off when not is use and check the result
Thanks for your answer.Only smart stay was on, but it does not make any difference. Unfortunately, I don't think it is so easy...

ok ... check for day dream feature if its on. Or try limiting background processes from developer options. But I have a strong feeling that ur phone wakes coz of smart stay. Coz even if u dont use it , it shows a screen saver with bubbles or whatever which wakes up ur phone.

Please guys, this is very important. I don't understand how to interpret the BBS stats. it seems to me partial w. is due to Aquamail, but disabling the IMAP push does not make any difference. I installed GSam, it says the wakelock is causing by Kernel Android OS, which is a very common problem but nobody seems to have a definitve answer.
What I have noticed is if I clear cache and reboot the phone goes into deep sleep until I get or make the first phone calls. After that it stays always awake... is that possible or just a coincidence?
I updated to official Russian 4.4.2, but again, it does not make any difference.
Do you think a hard reset would work? I read many people have this kind of problems the hard reset didn;t have any effect.
Please help me, the phone is almost useless, I have to charge it every few hours.
Thank you!

I tried it, it did not work. First 6 minutes or so, deep sleep, than always awake, like before. I don;t know why it stays in deep sleep for a few minutes after the boot and then suddenly awakes for ever. This time I did not do anything, not even a phone call!!!

Ok, although I do not have a solution it seems that their are a small percentage of people on here that have the same problem as me.
This is what I know:
The EVO has a bigger display, a faster proccessor, 4G, and alot of advanced features this means battery is not going to be the greatest.
However, I am now rooted running CM6 RC2, and although I love this ROM I have been having terrible battery. Also, I was using Fresh's and stock unrooted ROM and had bad battery also, AFTER I PUT IN ALL MY SETTINGS.
When I would hard reset my phone, it would sleep like normal, and the battery would run great, however, I think their is a setting that I use with my phone that is keeping it awake.
Now I am going to give all the settings that I use on my phone without installing any apps from the market. Because I know some apps keep your phone awake but I did a factory reset, put in my settings without installing any apps and my phone stayed awake.
***I have already tried the HTC and Sprint method of "conditioning your battery" I know their are 2 methods I have done both. I have setCPU, juice defender, spare parts, all that stuff that supposedly saves battery, but so far none have helped. Also my phone is set to auto CDMA, i tried that*****
Here is what I think. I am changing some setting in the phone that is keeping it awake and I can't seem to find what it is, I had this same problem with google sync setting and thankfully someone helped me fix it and it solved the problem however, after that I am still having the issue.
Keep in mind I HAVE NOT INSTALLED ANYTHING FROM THE MARKET YET, I have only entered my settings in apps that came with the phone because I believe that is the culprit.

Not to burst your bubble, but it's been pretty much proven that CM6 has unsatisfactory battery life.
Try Burnt Droid v1 + netarchy-toastmod kernel for optimum battery life.
I know,
but after reading through the thread it seems that about half of them half pretty good battery life, however I had poor battery with other roms, because something was keeping my phone awake.
I'm having a similar problem. On any ROM that's based of HTC's 2.2, my phone will run fine for about a day and then it will begin to stop sleeping. Once that happens the only way to get it to stop is to do a factory reset. What's funny is that using the exact same settings with CM6-RC2 I don't get the 100% awake issue. I've tried everything and can't figure it out.
I've tried turning off all automatic syncing, turning off network time and network location...didn't work. I deleted my Exchange account since I had heard that some people were having Exchange problems...didn't help. This last time around I didn't install anything from the market, it was just the stock apps. I did connect the phone to Sync in my truck and used it quite a bit before the problem cropped up.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that it's some kind background process that tries to run after a specified amount of time, but there's some kind of problem with the Sense-based ROMs that I've tried that won't allow it to run properly. So we need to figure out what the process is and either stop it from running in the first place, or figure out a way to take it out of the ROM so it isn't there to begin with.
I'm going to wipe everything and try installing Fresh 3.1.0.2 again. I'm going to try to remember to reboot my phone every night when I plug it in to charge and see if that helps. While it isn't ideal, it's way easier than having to do a factory reset every other day. I'll post back and let everyone know what happens.
Hello
I have my G2 for 3 days now, and I keep having the same weird problem every morning when I turn it on: the clock "looses" one day, and either advances or loses a few minutes.
Yesterday I checked as the hour went past 00h and the date changed to day 19, thursday ('I'm on GMT 00). The phone and computer had the same time.
I left my phone off during the night, and today when I turned it on I found it at 10.00 o'clock (8 minutes in advance of my computer). It also switched back to the 18th, wednesday. The weather/time app still detects it was last updated on the 19th.
I have automatic date-time-timezone switched off. If I turn it on, it will sync with the Internet and correct the hour, but that does not fix the problem.
Any ideas on what's happening? Any suggestions?
I'm on Android 4.2.2
Kernel 3.4.0
Software D80210b-EUR-XX
Yesterday (after midnight) I switched the phone off for more than 10 minutes, switched back on: all ok
Restarted the phone: was ok - up till 3 am the date/time was correct.
Turn it off, woke up this morning, turned it on: 5 minutes delayed, date went back to the 19th.
It seems what is happening is not really a lost of time. Today as I turned the phone on, it was showing 10:24, 20th (yesterday). This was over half an hour ahead of correct time. This happened after I had the phone off for 3 hours, so it's not a delay that increases as proportional to the time the phone is off. It must have something to do with some date/time on the settings, that override actual date/time.
I think this is like a "return to last settings", in this case, I believe this was the date/time set when I turned the phone on yesterday morning.
I already went by all apps I think could be related, but I can find no relevant option to prevent this.
That is indeed strange, maybe someone else around here can help you with that.
I don't think many people turn their phones off during the night.
Hi i think this is the same for all g2, my phone does the same thing once you turn it off the device is literally off. I am sure if you check the battery time it will show only from the time you rebooted it and not from last full charge. At the beginning i reported this issue but didn't get any reply but with further investigation i reached to the conclusion it wasn't an issue with device.
Any way regarding date time issue, you can simply make sure its automatically synchronized with network that way no matter whether its on or off it will be correct.
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
its probably cmos battery if phone has one, try warrantee
Thank you for your input
I've done a few more tests. I've flashed a different firmware, but it still does the same. This originally came with 10B-SEA, and I flashed it to 10B-EUR (UK open). Now it's back to SEA.
I've contacted LG about this, and they told me it's under analysis.
The phone will not loose date and time if it's powered off for one hour. After two hours it will happen and it will go back to the last time the phone was powered on and the clock was set.
I've been keeping it synced with the network time, and that way it works fine, but that's not a permanent fix. Yesterday I unchecked the automatic time, left it powered off for two hours, and it went back to monday.
I've read this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580974, and it seems to be related.
Same problem with date and time
I do have the same problem. My phone model is D802 (international variant). But as far as I remember, this issue did not start from the day one. I purchased the phone some 2 months back. It was fine on the JB. It remained fine even after the KitKat update. But one day, my phone did show some weird problems. Serious lag coupled with overheating and battery drain. I did a factory reset because the phone was hardly usable at that point. After the reset, lag + overheat and battery issue was gone, but I remember that after that incident, it started this weird date/time sync issue. There is something which I wish to highlight by the attached screenshot. There is always a broken curve of battery usage whenever the date/time reverts which happens whenever you keep the phone switched off for a few hours. I am not a technical person, but this might be related to the battery.
Anyone have any luck with this? The main problem that this is causing is that when emails, texts, messages come in whilst the clock is incorrect (before it updates), these items get put out of sync with when they did actually arrive.
I contacted LG and they said...
If you have both options ticked, I would advise you to try and perform a hard factory reset. Before doing the reset, please ensure that you back up all of your files as all data will be lost during the reset. The details of the reset are as follows:
Turn the phone off
Press and hold the power key and the volume down key together
Release the power key only when the LG logo appears and immediately press and hold it again
Release both keys when the hard factory screen shows up
Select yes (use the power key to select yes)
Select yes again
This will then take you through the set up of the phone, and the issue should be resolved. I hope this helps you.
I haven't yet tried this, as from what I've read elsewhere, this wont fix it, plus it is a bit of a hassle to copy everything off and then reset, then et everything back on the way it was and all apps, etc.
Hi,
I've the same problem.
Can you tell me if Hard factory reset or LG support had resolved this issue?
I'm currently using ClockSync app that sync time every 3h and at boot.
The clock seems not to be very accurate : 1.139s of local offset in 2h...
I've tested the Clock_offset_fix. I'll update this post when I'll be sure that this solution is ok for me or not...

This is not an issue per say. It's just that the device is built this way..... So as far as I know there is no fix to this. Except you can have accurate date and time if you have a sim card in the device and auto date&tme option is ticked in settings. You see the device doesn't have a pc like cmos rom to store basic info like date and time. So when u turn off the device that info isn't maintained and becomes corrupted after some time but it is corrected when synchronized with the cell network provider at boot.

If you can get to settings fast enough try checking for and disabling power-saving,
also since this tab is "new" try to get to software menu and check for and disable any custom governor apps installed
and check for root install, bad/broken root etc.
as a precaution don't immediately ask how to do that, incorporate that process into your next search
as it will like result in more knowledgeable in depth answers.
good luck!
if there is a custom recovery and root available you may want to consider a factory reset, NOT a full wipe.
also inspect the tab for signs of tampering/opening at it's seams. as evidence of a battery swap/replacement gone wrong.
you may also be experiencing a loose battery cable issue similar to other samsung devices notably the galaxy tab 3 10.1

hmmm, okay run it all day while connected to charger, not usb port.
we're ruling out a hardware issue and focusing on a battery problem , maybe.
from what i was able to find on the subject, that seems to be the test.
additionally take account of all existing apps and process that run automatically at boot.
you may be exhausting your available ram which does cause hangs and unexpected reboots.
you can access and disable many preinstalled bloat apps without being rooted.
disabled all the samsung/3rd party ware or at least what you know you don't need.
now if at the end of your day long test the tab doesn't hang and reboot then it has to be your battery.
as a side test place your tab on a table and pound the table with your fist.
if the tab shuts off or reboots it's your battery cable. do that test with the tab unplugged.

Hello guys.. I would like to listen your opinion about restarting the phone.. How often do you do it? What is the reason? And is there any disadvantages by restarting the phone?
I usually restart my phone every 10 days to clean up RAM and return the performance to the peak.
There is not much benefit per se, but it doesn't hurt to do so. Btw S6 Edge plus already has an auto restart scheduler if you didn't know. Check that out
How to turn on that option ? Is it on 6.0 or 5.1 ?
I always try to restart my phone each 1 or 2 days, but I'm not happy to do so because each time I reset, when I increase the column, the "high volume warning" message appear, very annoying

It is present in 5.1.1 and should be also present in 6.0
Go to Settings-> Backup and Reset-> Device Management-> Auto Restart
You can schedule the restart as you like even everyday at a particular time. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much, I haven't known it until now, such a waste
But I do not find any option "every day" ? It just every monday, every tuesday .... ?

Yeah, I already know about the Auto-Restart settings.. From what I read from another forum, restarting the phone will decrease the battery life since andoid OS has different system like Windows which need to be shut down everytime you don't use it, I am glad to hear your opinion.

I heard that restarting the smartphone everyday will affect your battery life although it is still on debate.. I guess why samsung doesn't give the everyday option instead give us once a week option at specific time..

1. Restarting your phone consumes a small amount of battery every time.
2. Restarting your phone restarts services and apps in background in a fresh way so your phone feels more responsive
3. Once a week is enough for an Android phone to be restarted! It has already 4GB of RAM. You don't need to worry about your phone slowing down unlike other smartphones...
I update apps, clean junk files, wipe caches & reboot, all that in one go, usually once a week, during the weekend. But I might forget sometimes.
I restart it couple of times in a day.

did it happen after you updated/installed an app? Then it's probably a bug in app.
Have a look at settings
check "battery usage" (tap 3dots to incl system apps)
check "memory used by apps"
crack "running services"
any app stand out an using more resources than normal?
I checked the battery usage, but there wasn't any strange entries.
Where do I check the running services?
I ended up with a factory reset and charged the phone to 100% in the evening, the next morning(today) it was totally empty and turned off.

you need to turn on developer options, go to settings> about phone and then tap build number until you are a dev. Then back out to settings then system> advanced> developer options and you should see the running services & also check memory. Is there anything that looks out of place? I used to use cpu monitoring app eg Trepn which could show how much cpu was bring used, but they just seem to work with Android Pie
if nothing stands out boot into safe mode so your downloaded apps don't run & see if battery drains. If not then you have a bad app.

you need to turn on developer options, go to settings> about phone and then tap build number until you are a dev. Then back out to settings then system> advanced> developer options and you should see the running services & also check memory. Is there anything that looks out of place? I used to use cpu monitoring app eg Trepn which could show how much cpu was bring used, but they just seem to work with Android Pie

In safe mode I can observe the same strange battery drain (without usage, even in flightmode!).
These are the running processes right now (not in safemode, cellular on, wifi off):
- com.qualcomm.qcrilmsgtunnel
- com.google.android.ims
- Google Play:
- CollectionService
- GmsCoreStatsService
- EmergencyPersistentService
- DeviceConnectionWatcherService
- LockScreenService
- GoogleLocationService
- GoogleLocationManagerService
- ClearcutDebugDumpService
- GcmService
- com.google.android.gms.persistent
- com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox:search
- com.google.android.ext.services
- com.google.android.inputmethod.latin
I am on the newest official build: PPR1.181005.099

I've had battery drain issues in the past on many devices including the PH-1. I recently was noticing a larger than normal drain on my battery while my phone was idle. One of the tricks I've done to resolve my battery drain issue was to open Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> See all [insert number] apps. Click the vertical ellipsis in the upper right corner and click the option "Show system".
First I clicked on Google Play Store. I clicked Force stop, then clicked on Storage. I clicked Clear cache then Clear storage (then clicked yes to the prompt). Click back to go back to the list of apps and select Google Play services. I did not have a force stop option so I clicked Storage, Clear cache. Next I selected Google Play Framework. I clicked Force stop, then went to Storage. I clicked Clear cache then Clear storage (then clicked yes to the prompt). Once this was complete I rebooted my phone and let it idle. I observed how much drain per hour I was getting and it was back to draining around 1% per hour.
If that doesn't help, sometimes it can be Google running the backup procedure in the background. You can try to temporarily disable it in Settings -> System -> Advanced -> Backup. Depending on your preferences you can decide if turning it off permanently is best for you, otherwise don't forget to turn it back on after observing your battery drain.

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried what you described but it doesn't help. still the same drain - over 10% per hour.
I have never used the backup option, hence it is deactivated.

Did you clear storage as suggested also? I'd take it a step further and clear all apps (have to do it individually on android 9).
Another good suggestion by techsavvy that it might be radio, try reset all radio option ie reset wifi, mobile & BT as well as his suggestion.
Hi, I´am experiencing the same issue. I´m using the phone for little more than two weeks. I received Unlocked one form Ebay, Installed the last update (Pie, and the security update few days later) It behaved really well until this saturday (15.10). Abnormal drain, gets really hot (around the fingerprint sensor) when using or charging. Now I discovered that the battery drain happens even when completely switched off. (?!)
I did a factory reset, cleared the cache of Google Play Store services, etc.
I found few threads with similar issues: https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/ph-1-losing-30-40-battery-powered-off-t3857667
https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/help/idle-battery-drain-t3707037/page2
So far no real help. Some users report the issue going away after while ? Some returned the phone.
Returning is a bad option for me as I bought it from e-bay and imported it to Eu which cost me around 170USD (Cutoms + shipping).
Do you guys have another suggestion?
Not much help, but just wanted to chime in and say that I'm also having the same issue with excessive battery drain even when switched off, so it appears this may be an issue with the last update. In addition to all the steps above, I also tried flashing the November security patch and even back to the final (July) Oreo version, but to no avail (it may be that this didn't work properly or something).
If anyone has any insight would be great to know, but I guess we might just have to wait to see if it is fixed!
Same issue, had the phone for about a month. This just popped about a day ago.
Since Saturday (15.12) I have the same problem. I removed the Simcard and did a factory reset but it did not help.

This was going to be my next step to try and get this under control. This is not what I wanted to hear
I'm getting about 6 hours of battery life right now. Last week I was getting 30+ with about 4 hours of SoT. This is frustrating.
I have the same problem. I've done countless resets and back to stock flashes and no luck, so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. I'm gonna send it to Essential for warranty, hope they're gonna help. Do you think I should relock the bootloader before sending it?
So after few days and more than few tries to repair it with factory reset, charging and discharging without starting the phone, factory reset in the fast boot mode I´m losing hope. Do you guys also have the Halo Gray?
edit: Not saying it is related, but could it be something like bad batch of phones? It seems strange to see multiple people with the same issue almost at the same time.

I have Halo Gray.
Surely, that's not related....
Right?

Not related. I have the halo gray, on the latest stock and I'm not having that issue. Slightly higher drain when idle with pie than Oreo, but not crazy bad, maybe and additional 1% an hour. It doesn't spend as much time in deep sleep on pie.

several of you have mentioned you have just got your phones, so possibly yes a new batch (I have an old halo grey, which is OK), though my money would be on a possible software bug that is only showing on the new batch maybe due to an alternative chip being specked or an updated chip or something like that, so they may be able to update software.
