Wow what a wonderful evening. Decided to unlock my bootloader on my VZW Dev Edition tonight. The Motorola Unlock website keeps telling me that my device is ineligible. I start a live chat and they tell me based on IMEI that my device does not qualify. Then they look up my order (from motorola.com) and they find out that my device IS a dev edition. He then tells me that my software has been modified. WTF! I just got this thing and haven't even unlocked the bootloader! Fastboot reports that it's locked! I am then told to contact them tomorrow to talk to Tier 2 Support. I am beyond angry at this moment...
Return it if you just got it and order another.

It takes a few days for moto to have your imei registered on their system, I think there might be 100 threads with the same issue, it just takes time.

I would suggest just calming down and go thorough with the tech support. While it's quite frustrating, it was just a bug in the system. Being frustrated and angry will only make you mad, and will not achive anything. When you talk to support, if you are mad they are much less likely to help you. Your problem will be resolved, but likely there is nobody here who can help. Just talk to Motorola and it will be fixed. Hardware defects happen all the time. It is just a software bug.
If you do get an unlock code, you could post it here and maybe we can find the formula to get the codes for unlockable imeis. Just a stab in the dark, but worth a try.

OK, well then I would tell Tech Level 2 to escalate it because it takes a few days for Tech Level 3 to call you back. You can try waiting a few days for the IMEI to make it into the unlock database, too, but I wouldn't wait more than 1 week from the ship date before pestering them to get on it.

Tech Level 2 just told me this exact thing I was surprised. She knew what she was talking about. She still escalated it to Level 3 for me however. Let's hope in a few days it will just be unlock able.
Just keep trying the unlock page. Its always been wonky. Many people tried over and over and then it just works. Be sure you're typing in your string properly....exactly the way it says to.

Wait. The X is tied to the account it was bought with? It's the first time I've heard of that and I just ordered mines through a friend's account because I don't own a credit card. Is this mentioned anywhere officially? Wow that sucks.

No its not linked to the same account. I bought mine on eBay and was able to unlock it. Just make sure that the account linked to your phone - the account shown where you have the quick toggles on the status bar is the one used when try to unlock it.
I had a few problems because I didn't realize that there were spaces when I pasted it into box. Just copy it into a word document and remove the spaces. Then paste into the section and the unlock request button will show at the very bottom of the page.

So it arrived! I'm now a very happy Moto X (Dev Edition) owner. And exactly as you said it's only linked to the account it's currently signed in with.

So I'm on T-Mobile and everytime I call, they give me a total BS code and it doesn't unlock ANYTHING =/
Can someone give it a try for me? I can provide you with the EMEI.
Please and thanks!
Sorry to tell you this, tmo will not give out the code unless the phone have been used on the account for 90 days for the person that is calling in.

I saw many people doing it before, as long as they have a Vibrant that's 90 days or older, T-Mobile will give them the code.
And have we tried the SGS_unlock program from the market yet ?
Why yes, it does work, thank you for asking.
Actually, it doesn't work for me. I also tried the PC program. All failed.
I actually even called T-Mobile as stated in my first post, but they gave me a bunch of BS codes.
Last option.
There is two unlock programs from the market. Only the Galaxy S unlock by Helroz worked for me and not the SGS unlock.
Dattack what ROM are you running?
I am using the Bionix v1.2 right now. I have using a telcel sim when I go to baja mexico and the unlocking by Helroz has always worked for me. I think there is an xda thread on the unlocking started by helroz. good luck.

Not sure how they did it back then, but when I called in to unlock a phone that I have not used, they wouldn't give me the unlock code because I didn't use it with my number for 90 days. Maybe a nice rep might hook it up, but from my experience they will give you the same bs with their 90 day policy.

Try troubleshooting the unlock methods in their respective threads. The unlock java program worked for me. There are several ways to do it, in all likelihood one should work.

Go to one of the stores and call them for the unlock code from there. Then, if it doesn't work you can get the store manager to intervene or better yet get them to exchange the phone.

lol the store manger can't do anything about a subsidy unlock. Beyond that, OP seems to be ignorant about unlocking the phone, instead blaming faulty codes on someone else.
When an official subsidy is filed, it goes to an unlock team who contacts the manufacturer, and is specific to the IMEI of the device. Chances are, if the OPs code didn't work, they weren't following instructions on entering it in, or never provided accurate info for the unlock.

So I have kind of an interesting situation. A few weeks ago, I ordered a new Nexus7 8gb for a gift direct from the Google Play store, and shipped via UPS. On the day it was delivered, UPS's tracking showed "Delivered to the front door" however it never made it there. So I called Google Play Support and they had me reply to an e-mail with the words "I consent" to allow them to refund the charge and "remotely disable the device" to make it "unusable as a phone or as a computing device for any purpose".
So I did that and they promptly refunded me, and I placed a new order, which ended up being delivered with no problems. However, yesterday my neighbor knocked on my door with the original shipment in hand, apparently it had been delivered next door, and they were away at the time so they hadn't seen the package until then. Out of curiosity I booted up the tablet fully expecting it to be bricked once I connected it to wifi or at most after I had attached my google account or tried to do anything on the Play Store app. However, it has so far worked flawlessly with no visible restrictions, I even updated all the apps and performed a system update with no issues.
Just to be on the safe, and more honest, side though I sent Google a follow-up e-mail to let them know what happened and that the device had not been disabled. They responded just to say that it "can be disabled at any time from now" and to make sure anything I had on there is backed up.
So my question(s) to you guys are, first has anyone had any experience with this, aka Google remotely disabling the device, and know what actually happens to it? And second, since it appears Google has no desire to collect the hardware back from me, is there any way to bring it back to life after that the disabling action has happened, via a hard-wipe and using custom ROMs ect, or will it be essentially a $200 paperweight?
Thanks!
I think, tho maybe wrong but when they send out the "kill" signal it goes out for limited time so that if the item is not switched on during that period then when it is switched on it could/should be fine.
I may be wrong but past experience with a found iphone would suggest this to be the case.
As for the last bit I would as assume that once killed only google can breathe life back into it.

Ah ok, well if thats the case maybe I should just power it off and wait awhile before attempting to use it, if theres a chance I would be able to avoid their "kill signal" altogether.
I just assumed at the very least they would blacklist the tablet's IMEI/serial immediately, so that even if the device itself wasn't bricked it wouldn't be unable to utilize any of google's services.
Flash a custom ROM and recovery asap I say.
Good on you for being honest and telling Google about what happened. Good karma goes a long way! I'm more surprised though they didn't request you send it back to them.

Yeah, I was surprised too when they didn't respond back with instructions to send it back to them or at least have UPS come pick it up, since it was UPS who was really the one at fault.
It just seems like a waste to me that a shiny new Nexus 7 will now most likely just become trash, which is what led me to ask here if there was anything I could do to save it from an early grave.

I'm not sure how its wrong if I notified them that I recovered the device, and all they said was "it will be disabled soon" and made no mention or request to have it sent back to them? Its apparent they don't want or need it back (I'm guessing the costs they'd incur in return shipping, handling, repackaging it, ect. would make it not really worth it for them to try to resell.), so is it wrong I'm trying to get some use out of it?
Also I believe I read that they file a claim with UPS in these instances, so most likely receive some type of reimbursement from UPS to at least mitigate the loss, which is probably another reason they haven't asked me to send it back. *shrug*
@shibbybypass - regarding your offer I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet, probably going to just let it sit awhile and see what happens. But I will keep your offer in mind.

We owned computer / networking business in the mid 80s to mid 90s.. what happens is the seller files a claim with ups. they are compensated for there loss. UPS Does not care about the item at that point . UNLESS Google files to ups item has been found. Then ups will ask for it But only Sometimes.Obviously google is not taking this second step.. Im sure this happens more then you would think. UPS Looses alot of packages. they just handle so many more its not so well known..
As far as them killing or locking the device.. Its only for google WALLET And the wallet nfc function. If you unlock lock then re-unlock the device it will have a new nfc id .
Here is how i know the above sentence..
First i bought a 8 gb nexus 7 from play store. (8 was out of stock ). It had bad screen lift. I called google and they said i could it order a 16 then gat a rma for the 8 when the 16 comes.. So the day i got the 16 gb . before i took it out of the box. I called google got the rma for 8 gb. Got the email telling me to disable wallet. I did so.. after i opened the 16 setting it up the screen cracked under (another story i will not get into here) I called google to explain what happened . they told me to send it back and to keep the 8 until i got a replacement for the 16. While setting the 8 gb tablet back up google wallet would NOT Work..
i called google back . they told me to unlock it again . lock it back. Remove it from my wallet account.. Then i could unlock it again and set it up...
this i done. and it worked fine. So it makes me think they do NOT RENDER THE DEVICE DISABLED Only the wallet features..
sorry for. such a long story ..
since you asked them if they wanted it back and they did not . i would say your fine with keeping it.. Keep the emails documenting you contacting them.
Good Luck
** UPDATE 8: April 1st ** Looks like it's all over folks! No one has successfully unlocked in the past 5 days or so. I've received a number of private messages from folks getting refunds (and some were unprompted) with notes saying "the service is over".
** UPDATE 7: March 31 *** If you look at pages 60+, there are now reports of people having trouble doing the unlock process. Please wait until we see more successful unlocks that were initiated from March 30th onward before sending any money!!
** UPDATE 6: March 25 *** Lots of people continue to have great success unlocking their bootloaders. I've seen another method used by many, which is to send an paypal money order directly to an email address found on page 10 in this thread along with your IMEI number. A number of folks have had success in less than 24 hours getting their codes.
Also, a huge thanks to KidJoe on page 40 for this great of FAQ answers. If you have questions about what this will or won't do to your phone, etc, check out that Guide and drop him a "Thanks".
*** UPDATE 5: March 17th 5pm *** A big special thank to asuhoops8628 who provided these instructions on his successful unlocking which occurred over the last day or two.
These are the current best set of instructions:
1. USE GOOGLE CHROME. it is absolutely necessary for translations. When loading a page, ensure the page loads 100% before clicking Translate. If you do not wait, it will miss things.
2. Use the link to taobao.com found in this thread. The URL will look like item.taobao.com. I don't want to post it exactly, but it can be found on page 4 or 5 of this thread.
3. Translate the page and register for an account on Taobao. When registering, the orange buttons generally mean proceed throughout Taobao. You also want to use your real phone number, since they send you a text to verify your account. You do not need a real email address. Considering the state of security on the web today, use a unique disposable password that isn't used elsewhere.
4. Once you are registered, go to the main item listing, and click the untranslated orange button. It will popup in chinese for your user name and password. Enter them, click orange button
5. It will then add your item to your cart. You are going to have to enter your mailing address, I forget how exactly it prompted me, but its fairly easy to figure out with a combination of Translate and remembering the orange button means proceed.
6. Once the item is in your cart, just simply click the big orange button beneath the total price
THIS IS THE HARD PART, PAYMENT.
1. After the page is fully loaded, translate it. At the top next to the website logo, you will see a dropdown labeled "Chinese mainland version" Click this and change it to "other areas overseas edition"
2. enter your CC#, click orange button. (Consider using a pre-paid credit card, like one you can buy at the checkout counter at a drug store).
3. Let it load, finish adding your CC. Before you submit and finalize payment, it will give you the option to add a memo. In here, specify an email address and your IMEI number. After that click orange button to submit payment.
4. After it is complete, go back to the listing page, and send the seller a message. He always responded to me within a few minutes. Tell him you have paid, your TaoBao user name, and ensure he got the IMEI. He will tell you 24-48 hours. (I got my code less than 24 hours later).
5. Once you receive the code and unlock, go back to TaoBao, and click your username in upper right corner. You will see a section called "buy baby" and it should show the link to the listing. Click on that, and follow through on completing payment. Also make sure you scroll down, there is an area with 3 lines of 5 stars. I rated 5 stars for each because the great service that was provided. You do not need to enter a message. Click orange button to finalize.
6. Congrats, you are done! Enjoy your unlocked X/Maxx/Mini/Ultra
*** UPDATE 4 : March 17th: Lots of people are reporting success with purchasing unlocks after March 14th. Click to page 10, and you can read about people's success stories. Also, it appears there are 2 sellers, one of which is slightly cheaper and more responsive. However, there is no good set of instructions for using the second seller. If someone has a complete list of steps, URLs, email addresses, etc, please post a nice guide and shoot me a link. I'll give you a nice prominent "Thank You" and link. Happy unlocking!
*** UPDATE 3 : March 14 11am *** Sounds like the issues for Mr Middle-Man are financial, rather than technical. This would be good news (rather than his unlock methodology being shut down): See this post for more.
*** UPDATE 2: March 14 10am *** According to MattCropley, the dude in China said he might have more codes in a few days(?). Again, please post any successes you've had after March 13th or 14. The amount of disparate information floating around is crazy.
*** UPDATE 1 *** According to a few folks, the unlock codes for Verizon phones are no longer available.
What's a summary of this thread? A number of folks have been able to pay money to someone in China. In return they provide an unlock code that can unlock your Moto Maker X's bootloader (providing many of the same benefits of a Dev Edition device). This allows you to more easily attain root, flash a recovery, flash ROMs, install GravityBox or XPosed, etc.
**** ORIGINAL THREAD ****
I wanted to start this separate thread, as I've seen lots of information floating around on various threads. It seems like there is an unlock available (that you use with "fastboot oem unlock") that will effectively turn your Moto Maker X into a Dev Edition.
The process seems to involve sending approximately $45 to a Chinese middle-man via eBay and another website, along with your IMEI and cell phone number, and you will receive an unlock code.
The best instructions I've seen are in this post and this post . Some of these instructions were based on this earlier set of instructions.
These instructions below are from trimax84:
1. Went to the Verizon Bootloader Unlock China site: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...id=37333625825
2. Enable Google Translate (I'm using Chrome)
3. Click on the orange button mid-way down the page (mouse-over tooltip reads: "Click this button to confirm the purchase")
4. The next page basically asks for your phone number and will send you a text message with a confirmation code. I scrolled down within the first drop-down box until the country code changed to "+1" for USA
5. Enter phone number, click the button, check your text message
6. Enter the code (numbers in the middle of a bunch of Chinese letters in the text message); click the box next to that
7. Sign up for a TaoBao account (left-hand side; looks like the right was for current members to log in - I did not yet have an account). There should be an Overseas option in here which some seem to be missing
8. I included my IMEI number in the Comments to Seller box, though you can send it to the seller later
9. Payment information - I used a virtual credit card number (Citi bank) with a fixed dollar limit and expiration date (TaoBao accepts Visa and Mastercard)
10. A successful payment leads to the confirmation page
(I used babelxl.com to translate some of these random things that Google Translate wouldn't)
That's it. Done.

Once you get your code, you can execute "fastboot oem unlock <code from China>". This post has the complete instructions:
I've counted about 20 different posts that claim this has worked successfully. I haven't tried it myself just yet.
Some people are paying via an eBay middle at this link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171131992860?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649. Here is one person's instructions on how they did this via eBay.
It seems like this is all one guy handling this process. Turnaround time seems to be 24-48 hours beginning to end. Some folks have had issues with their credit cards flagging these transactions as fraud, and have had to contact their credit card company to allow it.
Maybe others that have completed this can post their instructions and experiences with how well the process worked?
NOTE: Unlocking your bootloader will erase your data. Reboot your device and you should see "an ugly unlock icon" to confirm that your device is unlocked.

Damn, it seemed to be too good to last. I'm hoping that the guy from China who was offering this was able to reverse engineer the unlock coding system, and eventually that knowledge will make its way out to the rest of us.

I used this guy for my Droid Maxx....I think since its the weekend over there already they are taking a break. I dont think he is waiting to get more codes per say but probably airing on the side of caution. I had talked to him through chat and tried to ask him his method and offer to help him more and get him more business. He then responded a while later saying he should rest. Weird response but who knows....

i hope this is the case. crossing my fingers, blah blah. this guy is collecting a pretty penny on these orders considering the work involved. probably more so than any root method/bootloader bounty has ever collected.
(I posted the following early this morning on another feed. I am reposting here.)
I purchased without middleman directly from Chinese website on Wednesday at 2AM CT... I was able to chat online with seller... I received my unlock code Thursday 10PM CT. The unlock was successful on my Droid Maxx.
I wanted to purchase again for my wife's phone but the listings now say "NO SELL!!!PLEASE DON'T TAKE ORDER!!Please wait 2 days." So I waited for seller to be back online for chat.... I just asked him about the 2 day wait...
Seller: "You must wait 2 days"
Me: "OK Thanks"
Seller: "I have to deal my troubles"
Me: "I understand"
Seller: "My Alipay was frozen"
Me: "Ah, OK Good Luck"
My chat with him was at 1:45AM CT this morning (Friday). I am sure Alipay will accept your money for now, but he may not be able to accept or withdraw your money until he gets things straightened out with Alipay. If the listing still says "NO SELL!!!PLEASE DON'T TAKE ORDER!!Please wait 2 days." then I can only assume his Alipay account is still frozen.
Great writeup, thanks for posting this. What's good about this update is that it seems to be financial, rather than problems getting/sending unlock codes.
I received my Honor 8 yesterday and so far I'm mostly pleased. Compared to the past 4 Moto G models I've owned, I'm extremely happy. I just hope support is better than my efforts to contact them so far. I was trying to register it so I'd get that 3 month screen protection and for now I've given up. I first tried to call them and sat on the phone for an hour only to be disconnected without ever talking to someone. I then tried to register it using the login I've had for some time. When I try to login with that I get an error that a problem occurred and try again later. Sooo, I tried registering with a new email but it requires them sending you a code to register. I tried 3 different email addresses multiple times and I never receive the code after 24 hours. I then sent an email, which over 24 hours later, I'm not sure they even received. If this is an indication of their support, then I am a little worried.

Thanks, I guess I'll just have to wait. That is about an unlocking code, mine is about the code needed to just register the phone but that one and mine are similar because apparently there's no one home at Huawei.

Quite frankly, i wouldn't bother If i were you. The hardware is great but software is meh and support is abysmal.
That's not news around here though.
Also, their website structure/ registering procedureshave got to be the worst.
If you think that's bad wait till you try to get your bootloader code.
Luckily there are ways around that and while not free I'd definitely go for it.
Otherwise prepare for quite a few headaches in that regard ?

LOL, Just from what I've seen, I'll have to agree. I finally got an answer from them that was obviously run through a translator. It gave me a link to click that took me back to the page I originally tried to register with. So I tried resetting my password once again and it actually sent me the registration code. When I used that it told me I was in the wrong country and redirected me to a page that looked identical to what I previously looked at. So I used my new reset password and I get a new box advising me that something went wrong. So, I give up.
I do love the phone though, compared to the Moto G4 I had, it's quite a step up.
I didn't have any problems getting my unlock code.

I'm not wanting an unlock code, I'm just trying to register the darn phone. In case you've never tried or haven't in a while, Honor requires you to get an AUTHENTICATION code just to register your watch or to activate the free breakage coverage. If they don't send you that code then you can't get any web based support.

I solved my problem by using a Hotmail address. It wouldn't work using an AT&T email or Gmail but I did get a reply with hotmail. Unless you turn off the authentication feature, everything you do or change requires 2 or 3 of these authentication codes to be sent. It may be that AT&T and Gmail have blacklisted their mail server because it might look like mail flooding with all the emails they send out for every little thing. The good thing is that once you get in, you can disable that authentication feature.

Honor sent me an email saying that my US account was being transferred to Germany for some reason. I wouldn't bother trying to register for the screen protection. If you can't get the simple registration you'll probably find it impossible to get warranty service anyway. It's been two or three months since North America got a software update, and it was around Christmas to get the update before that. The Honor 9 isn't seeing a NA release last I heard. And the Honor USA reps (Noah and Trevor?) who used to post here haven't in ~10 months.
If you need a bootloader unlock code I got mine in October or November no problem. But with Huawei seeming to have stopped support in North America I'd try the European site if you need one now. I think we'll possibly get one or two more security patches over the next 12 months, but put low odds on that and expect nothing beyond it. It's a shame the Honor 8 is such a nice phone saddled with such dreadful support from Huawei. If they released security updates I'd highly recommend it. But they don't and I wouldn't suggest spending $300 on a phone that's probably never going to get a software update.
That's weird (transferring your account)
Ones or two other people on the forum reported the same thing. I'm wondering if they still plan future products for the US?

They do still plan for future US releases, because I am in Huawei/Honor beta facebook group (it's for US people) and they send unreleased products to test

Thats just a dope . I hate that beta testing though.
Here in xda devs are working day n night . It boosts device sales as it gets development.
Devs can give best reviews than those noobs. Cant they send those test stuff to devs ?
This is why that "group is a dope"

Bootloader Unlock on Pixel and Pixel XL "New Method" on all Android Versions
Hi Guys !
Smail From Morocco
I have found a way to get the Greyed out OEM UNLOCKING off and make it active. So we can enable it and unlock the bootloader easy !
This method has been TESTED on Both Pixel and Pixel XL. Also it doesn't matter what Android version You have
" 7.0 to 8.1.0 ".
The Reason why i will NOT release this publicly is GOOGLE. it looks like im having a COLD WAR with them ! because of some older reported BUGS but it seems like they don't care even when my bugs got patched.
Okay so here are some pictures about the status of the OEM UNLOCKING Before and After !
If you are not releasing it why did you even make a thread about it? Seems fake and for attention.
Bro, there's a bounty thread in the pixel 2 forum, there's something around $1,550, if you want money why don't you just share your results there? It looks like a scam.
gimme the link to the thread.

I'm sure most everyone in the bounty thread will cough up the money once it's verified to work. Now if you unlock before you get paid that's fine. However you want to play it. Do it for free and collect the bounty or pay as you go.

Just curious how you did it if he hasn't released the exploit? Did he use you as a tester?

Because it doesn't exist, which is most likely why his account is disabled.
Red flags:
- relatively new account
- no interest in collecting bounty for work
- managed to find test numerous devices to possibly brick in testing
- the people who vouch for him are also new members****
- why start NUMEROUS "I did XXX but can't post it because of XXX" threads... It has never stopped organizations in releasing the exploit. This isn't the first one of his. The other ones ended up being false with the threads locked.
If you're going to trust someone with that kind of security exploit on your device, be careful. In the past, there has been root programs that gathered device data. Sound like a scam to gather device data such as your IMEI.

Heyo. Just wanted to chime in here. I'm not a new member. I've been around here for a while (though not posting). I contacted Smail today to give this a shot. I was very skeptical, like everyone else. We chatted on FB for a bit, then I sent him my TeamViewer info, he connected, signed into his Flexihub account on my PC, then disconnected the TeamViewer. Continued via FB, he had me do a few things on the phone, and *poof* the option was enabled. I toggled it, rebooted to bootloader, was able to unlock with no issues. Holy crap it worked.
As of yet I haven't sent him any money, but I definitely plan on it. This guy is the real thing. The reason he was banned was mods accused him of selling services, even though he was only operating on donations. I get where they're coming from, but still.
He only uses TeamViewer to log into the Flexihub software (which is used for connecting to USB devices over a network).
I can also attest that his method works. He connected through teamviewer and logged into Flexihub and walked me through a factory reset and developer options and enabling usb debugging and soon i was able to toggle my oem unlock and was able to unlock my bootloader. I also must admit i was super skeptical and when it worked I almost fell out my chair because from my standpoint it was easy.
This is interesting... I've been unlocked since the depixel8 exploit but this could be big

I can also vouch for him. I've been around for awhile too, since the HTC Eris days, just don't post much. The experience here was the same for me. Took 15 min tops. I will also be donating something to him for his work, unreleased or not, it works.

This is bull crap. I offered $20 bucks for video proof, not unlock service. And he rejected the offer.
I am so confused... Lol. Can mods please take this down?
Curious on how people found him on Facebook with just a first name
