Kit Kat Kies? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Tired of waiting for the OTA update. Does anyone know if we can update to Kit Kat via Kies?

1) this is the wrong place to ask a question. Those go in the Q&A section.
2) Hook up your phone to Kies. If it loads 4.4.2 then yes if no then no.

So you couldn't wait until you got home to try it yourself? since you are impatient on the OTA you could have side loaded the OTA zip that is already available and flash it in stock recovery. Its the exact thing you will receive from Sprint.

Question about 4.010.13 update(~15mb) and being rooted.

I just turned on my tab and it alerted me of an update. It says system update 4.010.13 and its 14.49 mb. Anyone know what this is? And I also ask because I'm rooted and wondering if I should accept the download. I know with my phone being rooted and running custom roms, I never receive updates. So I'm not sure what to do with this one since I'm rooted and if that has any effects on system updates. Any ideas what it is and if its okay to take the update.
With stock roms you still get updates. But don't update that way, it wont work if you have clockwork recovery. There is a link for the update in the general section of the iconia forum, sorry I don't have the link. So find the link and install it through cwm and you should be good. I have been running .13 for 2 months with no problems so its stable.

I looked through several pages and didn't see anything about an update. Are you talking about the general section here? Where I posted this question.
I also got this update but it fails to apply due to cwm being the recovery image. Where do the updates actually download to anyways?

Yeah I found it in this section 2 months ago. The title was actually was 4.010.13. I don't have time to find at this moment but I'll look for it. It might take a while to find since it was so long ago.

thanks! I don't get why I just received this update when the link you posted me was people talking about it back in July lol
I just saw this over at Android Central: http://www.androidcentral.com/acer-iconia-a500-getting-small-system-update-today
So they also are reporting it today. Why did other people receive it so early?

[Q] Ok, so what is the Undo method on Loki

I'm ready to Loki my AT&T S4, but want to have a return path to original.
Following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41751742&postcount=17
I would presume I end up with CWM that I can take a backup of the system at that point. So undo would be to restore that backup and replace the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh file?
Thanx.

I'm sorry. Let me clarify. I have Odin, I have used odin to apply CWM to other phones. That doesn't really give me a process to do what I have asked. If you are indicating that I just find and apply an original copy of the AT&T rom, then why not say that instead of a one word answer that really doesn't help? I did not realize that odin could be used to apply whole roms AND that the original rom would also replace/remove CWM/loki changes.
I am looking for a tested process that I can use to UNDO any rooting/loki changes I do to my phone so I can get hardware support from AT&T during the remainder of my 2 year contract should it be needed.
I'm assuming this process will work?? http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...7-4-2-2-odin-files-stock-restore-unbrick.html
Thanx.

That is correct. You could also check out this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573
But I would also download the current firmware instead from sammobile.com and use ODIN to flash it back to stock. Or you can also download the latest stock firmware here: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/AT&T+S4/Stock+Odin/AMDL/

Sorry about that. I guess I'm just used to "Odin" being a synonym for "Odin back to stock", as used in the post above me. But yes, that would be the correct process. There's plenty of info within our own S4 forum on Odin'ing back to stock.

Rooting and update question.....

Hello everyone,
I'm an ex-Evo3d user and as I remember people were always talking about how updating your phone can kill your root. My question is now that I rooted my Sprint SG4 and have the hotspot goody working, what should I do about any future Sprint OTA updates? Should I update or not? Should I wait for OTA updates that people post that I flash manually? What do you guys think?
Thanks :fingers-crossed:
I too came from Evo 3d, I believe if you are running a custom recovery otas will not update, it checks prior to installing and if you are the update fails. That said, even back in my htc days I found is best to patiently wait till a skilled dev gets their hands on it and create flashbacks firmware zips our so it's safe to flash in Odin

Thanks for the info! I was a bit concerned on the auto update. Waiting for a zip flash OTA update is the way to go. Cool! :highfive:
Generally speaking our Devs have a fully rooted version of the newest OTA available the same day if not a few days before it comes out. You are always prompted about a new OTA and you can ignore it until you get a flashable update that meets your needs. Once you are on a build that has the same version source as the OTA you will stop getting update notices.

Can't update to MF3

Anyone having issues with getting the ota MF3 update? I've tried updating my software on my phone but it says my software is up to date. I have set my clock forward several times but I still can't get it to update. Also, Samsung Kies (which is such a piece of crap) says my software is up to date even though I have mdl. Anyone had any issues with this and have a fix?
i'm assuming you either not rooted or are rooted and dont care about losing root?
if you're rooted and want to run MF3, iB4STiD has a loki'd MF3-based debloated rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280556

That is correct. I've had some issues with my wireless and this update is supposed to fix some wireless issues.
if you're rooted: i would research and try one of these MF3-based roms. any changes you may be looking for should also be contained in that rom. it will be rooted, hence allowing you to keep root as well as the option to revert to any other rom you may want to try later.
if you're not rooted and dont care about root: you'll have to wait until you receive the update. when that happens, kiss the possibility of root goodbye. you may not care about that if the wireless issue you have is resolved. however, if that issue is not resolved in the MF3 update, you cannot root and try another rom nor revert to a previous firmware version.
Are you wanting to root or flash custom roms?
Yep same here stock att s4. Of 4 phones two updated to mf3 and two didnt keep saying up to date. Not sure why...did att stop Rolling out the update?
Im happy with stock...not intention of rooting (though I have rooted my epic 4g in thw past). Using holo launcher to hide touchwiz. (I dont think it has to do w that)

I have no intention of flashing custom roms but I would like to root in the near future. Fixing my wireless issues trumps rooting though so I have to wait for a new root to come out that's fine.
If you are on MDL, and you have no intentions of rooting right off the bat, and you want the MF3 update, make sure your status is set to official and manually move the date up 1 day, to force the update.

If you don't have anything constructive to say then please don't say anything. Like I said, I've had wireless issues that I'd like to get fixed. Yes, I could get the rooted version of the update but I've never flashed a new Rom and I have no desire to just so I can get the update.

This forum is for the AT&T Galaxy S4 and I posted my issue in the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting. I'm pretty sure my issue constitutes Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting. I posted here because (for the most part) people on Xda know what they are talking about and I wanted to see if anyone else had this issue and has a fix for it. You don't think I've looked around the AT&T forums? Once again, if you don't have anything constructive to say then don't say anything. I'm just trying to find a solution to a problem. Just because I choose not to root my device or flash a different ROM to it doesn't mean I don't have a right to post here. I may do so in the future, but right now I don't feel a need to.

[Q] Is there a working root for latest update?

Just bought a used AT&T S4 and it has the latest update. Looked all over, tried various root methods, including the one posted for the latest update. Nothing works! Is there anything in the works to solve this "issue"?

Thank you very much. I didn't realize. I assumed because odin root wasn't working. Rooted successfully. But , now I have another problem. I was stupid enough to check for OTA update and now there is no way to stop it. It forces download as soon as wi-fi is enabled. I tried everything I could find. renamed the update file through file explorer. tried deleting it, it's no use. file gets recreated every time, and update resumes. Is it true that if I do go through with OTA update the phone will become bricked?

How do you expect people to "not to assume you are just another noob", yet you refuse to read the information that is available in the forum that would prevent you from making these noob mistakes? Your actions are dictating the way you are being perceived. If you would read the "pinned" threads in the General and Q & A sections you might stop making these "noob" mistakes.
