[INFO] So far, I am impressed - I think ASUS has a potential winner, here

Early feelings, keep in mind -- I've only used the device for a few hours.
- IPS screen is wonderful. Beats out the Xoom and it's the first thing I tested. I don't have an iPad(2) to compare it with, but if my R10 is any indication the screen is probably similar to an iPad, at least the screen angles and color balance. Yellows are yellow, not a bluish yellow.
- 16:10 screen is the best screen for comics. Yep, I'm all about comics. Superior to an 4:3 screen (sorry Apple).
- microSD card actually works. Moto, you reading this?
- ASUS Reader supports epub. Drop them into the ebooks folder, and they "just work" (assuming no DRM, of course). Give me a night mode and this would easily replace Aldiko for me (and if there is a night mode, I just haven't found it yet).
- When you force Portrait mode, the power button is on the top. They got that right, they could have just as easily screwed that up, but they didn't. And I like the power button on top vs. in the back (Xoom).
- Speakers sound good, and are not in the back.
- It's aesthetically pleasing. I like the ridges on the back and the edges. And brown is almost a welcome change in a world of black and white. It LOOKS good.
- It's US $400 for the 16GB device. That's the most important thing of all. Remember, the Viewsonic GTablet was $400 until recently and that doesn't have a GPS, an IPS screen, a 1280x800 screen, 1GB of RAM or Honeycomb support (although it does have 32GB onboard). And the 32GB Wifi Xoom is $600. I think some of these tablet makers will need to take a long hard look at their price points as ASUS is about to alter the tablet market.
Is it perfect? Nope. I hate the proprietary cable, the lack of a real AC adapter for charging, the lack of a full USB port on the tablet itself, the problematic video playback (so far), and of course Honeycomb itself needs some work. And, unlike an iPad or even a Xoom, accessories are non-existent right now and even the dock and the device itself is as hard to find as an iPad2, right now. But, time should correct at least some of these things. I think this thing is going to fly off the shelves and today's insanity was just a taste of things to come - assuming some major defect doesn't manifest itself, of course.

Normally I loathe proprietary cables as well, but I don't think you can knock them for this since it charges at a higher voltage than standard USB can accommodate.
That said... I think Asus would have a winner if the rest of us could actually get out hands on one.

How is the gps? I'm thinking of selling my xoom for the transformer if it matches the xoom wifi's gps strength or better.

It's still not as fast as I'd like, but it's because of the apps I use, NOT the device. I have yet to find the perfect cbr/cbz reader for Android.

The Xoom is not a bad device - but I didn't like some of the design choices and, at $600 for the 32GB Wifi, it's about to be overpriced. I think Moto is going to need to drop that by at least $50, very soon

The GTAB , Adam and Xoom have a separate AC port. So, I can charge it and connect it to my PC at the same time, with the USB cable. You can't do that with this tablet - you'd need the dock to do that.
It becomes annoying very quickly as you have to basically put the device aside and charge it. It basically forces me to buy the (non-existent so far) keyboard dock.

Correct. The GTAB is 16:9 and is too long for comics. And 4:3 (iPad, and my R10) is too wide. 16:10 is the sweet spot for comics reading.

It auto double pages - I don't see an option to change it (that's one bad thing about the app - very few options. I just wish it had a night mode. But it is FAST).

I got mine yesterday... Very pleased so far.
1st, the screen is awesome. Absolutely destroys the Xoom and Galaxy Tab. The iPad screen might be a little better, but not much. It's lighter than I expected, and the build quality seems really good to me. I know some reviews commented on it, but just think Asus netbook quality.
When I first started the device it already had an update. Not sure what it fixed. Very speedy using the web browser. Tried a few apps, then downloaded the game Samurai II which I had seen in some Honeycomb YouTube videos. Signed up for the Amazon App Store. Much nicer than the Marketplace, although it is a lot better than when I used it about a year back.
So far I'm really liking Honeycomb. I think this tablet is totally worth the $400. Can't wait until I get my hand on the dock. I put in a 16gb microsd and it works perfect. Also really happy there was 12gb+ free on the device from the start...
EDIT: Very disappointed Zinio isn't available on Android yet. I thought I read it was.

I purchased a USB 3 Cable that has the correct amount of pins needed to be used as an extension cable (Male to Female) with the Asus charger, so with a 2 meter cable i can now sit on the sofa with it plugged into the charger to get full charge whilst using the transformer.
Saves having to put it down close to a power point to charge it with the silly short cable that it came with.

I think we need a Tegra 3 for that. All these T2 devices are going to have this same problem, I think.
Hi-Def video is not high on my list of needs, so it doesn't bother me too much. If XVid AVI's work, then I'm fairly happy. But I would like to see it work, regardless. WMV's, for example, are broken - I believe the Xoom is the same. And I bet WMA's are broken too, just like the Xoom.

I think the Xoom's is better, but I have to test it more. I'm in my "man cave" and the Xoom GPS actually worked there. Not so on the Transformer. It also likes to eat battery life so I actually turned it off, for now.
EDIT: I went upstairs and it STILL doesn't work. I have this same issue with the Adam, but the Xoom is definitely better. The compass works, though.

Keep in mind that it may take 10-20 minutes for a new GPS to get it's initial fix and download the satellite ephemeris data, assuming a good signal. Once it has that, subsequent fixes will be a whole lot faster, unless it has been months since you turned it on and the data is too out of date.
I'm finding the GPS on the TF to be good, it works in my basement for example, where my LG Optimus will not lock on. I can't compare to the Xoom though.

I haven't been able to get my hands on this device yet. From what I can tell Asus sent out 60 total to retailers in Canada, so the odds were not good.
I am glad to see that Roebeet's on board. He's the reason I bought and enjoyed my Gtab. I'm also a big comic reader and have about 11,000 digital comics just waiting to be read on my TF, when and if I can get one.

Reading cbr's/cbz's on this thing versus the GTAB is like night and day. The GTAB used to give me a headache. I really am an IPS convert - I want to see the yellowing of the pages. Of course, I expect that when there's a 10 inch OLED or color eInk device in two years, I'll port over to that. But right now IPS is king.
Now just get me an Android device that has "smell-o-vision" so I can get that new comic smell, and I'll be all set.

Download Twonky. It is completely free, and with a strong wifi signal, streams content to Apple TV without problem.

How is the transformer as an ebook reader?

Hi Guys,
I'm considering purchasing a tablet mainly to read my many pdf documents and books on the commute to work. I currently have ezPDF on my phone and love the UI, but the small screen makes it hard to read anything and take it in.
I will alslo use the device to surf, watch videos, play games etc which is why i'm not interested in getting a dedicated ebook reader like a kindle.
Do any of you guys use the Transformer for reading ebooks? Whats your experience like?

I have used my Transformer for reading ebooks with the Kindle application. It is one of three tablets I have used for this purpose and the clarity of the screen is the best on the Transformer, as you might expect. I would think reading PDF files would be a similar experience. For PDF files I use the official Adobe PDF reader, which seems good to me. My only complaint is that the Transformer is a few ounces heavier than the 10" Archos tablet I've used, though the Archos screen is not as good.

I use it every day as an ebook reader (next to a lot of other things). The nice thing about the transformer is it's screen. Even if you don't hold it at the perfect angle, it still is very good to read from. It is not as light as most books, so for very long reading I always look for something to rest it on.
I mostly read pdf documents with the application mylibrary that was pre-installed. I always read in portrait so I see the whole page. It is good, but it could be better. For instance each time I flip a page, I have to zoom in a little as there is otherwise to much whitespace at the sides. It remembers the last position in the document and it contains a bookshelf to order your pdf's. It can read some other formats, like .epub and probably more. For some other formats, like .chm you will need to look for other software. It would also be nice if I could add extra bookmarks. And to jump into the document (and back), but even the acrobat reader in android seems not to do this.
So to recap. The hardware is very good. The software is currently good enough, and probably in time will get a lot better.

the one comment i will make is i was and am amazed how good this screen is even out in the daylight. Yes it will reflect if you have the sun shine right on the tab however the lcd fade is amazingly small and i find mine very useable even in bright sunlight. This is the firstntab i've usdd that has been ueealble outside.

One of a tablet I feel is for reading and so I am very picky about this capability. I would say that for comic books it is perfect. For reading PDF's with EZPDF it is perfect. You can see so much more and there is rarely any need to double tap to zoom in on the text. For books, I have to say that I prefer my galaxy tab for its size and its native ebook reader. I don't use Kindle or any other corporate solutions. The native reader is missing only one key feature which is the ability to read it a night in nightmode. Aside from that is good. The page turn animations are a bit too fast. I really like the native ebook app on the original galaxy tab, it even as page turn sounds, unneeded for sure, but nice to have nonetheless.

I prefer to use Aldiko, as it does the 'night mode', reversing the colors (black background, white text) and makes it easier on the eyes. The sliding brightness function is also hella nice. Thusly I always try to find books in a non-drm ePub format.
The one thing I don't like is how glossy the screen is. It becomes distracting trying to angle it so I'm not getting glare off of the lights around me.

I actually use three devices for ebook reading: my Samsung Epic for when I'm, e.g., standing in line waiting for my lunch order; my Nook 3G for reading in direct sunlight (the TF screen is good, but nothing beats e-Ink); and my TF for reading most of the time and particularly when I need to make annotations on what I'm reading.
I use the Nook client on all three, so that notes/annotations and last read page all sync. It's a great system, and I'm reading more now than I ever have.

the problem i have with kindle or google books, is that you can't sideload any of the books you already own, i've been using moon+ reader pro, and it seems to work fine.
i wish i could add my own books to either kindle or google books, because i really like their UI's (especially google books on HC)
i think the nook apps let you add your own books too...

I was always strongly against reading books from any backlit screen, that's why I was going to buy a E-Ink reader (for several years, lol).
Thank God I didn't - because I'm reading books from my Transformer all the time now, wherever I go. There are like 2.5 Gb of books on it
Very comfortable and nice. I'm using FBReader, and all my books are in .fb2. It also has a bunch of extremely detailed options, screen tap areas, very flexible day/night modes, etc, etc. I can't look at any other reader after it.

For .pdf, I recomend RepliGo Reader or ezPDF.
Regarding TF's display, I think it's superb for browsing, but a bit more straining for e-book reading than my HTC HD2, because the white is more "warm". Personally, I prefer a display with a more cold ou "bluish" white, because I don't need to crank brightness up to have clarity. I would like to try Galaxy Tab 10.1, but the oversaturated colors are a drawback to e-book reading, though I prefer its white.

Mantano Reader + TF = Utimate reading machine!
Mantano lets me highlight stuffs, read the book for me, and lot more.

The Galaxy Note Is The Most Versatile Mobile Device Ever.

Some people regard the Note as being too big to be used as a phone and too small to be used as a tablet. Of course, neither is true because the Note is the most versatile mobile device ever made. The days of having to own a small mobile phone where the screen is too small to be practicable and a tablet which is too big to carry around are over. Thank you Samsung.

It,s probably the best thing ever done as yo it,s many functions. It,s a great smartphone light and thin with the biggest screen and amazing performance, it has an amazing battery life considering it's hugeness. It's a great ebook using aldiko, it's a fantastic media player for music, video and photos on it's own screen and on tv with hdmi. The quality of the camera is close yo the iphone 4s if not best. The video recording is simply great and of course it is better that any gps navigator you can buy since it positioning technology is the fastest i've ever seen. No doubt this phone is the gadget of the year

There is some truth to that. Let's admit it.
But... if you want a go anywhere device that does it all... The Note is for you.

5.3" is slightly bit much.
One month in and still impressed with this phone. It really is the best mobile device I've ever used.
-Camera quality is excellent.
-Love using the stylus for notes and drawing/doodling.
-Bought a car mount and uses it as my main GPS since the screen is large. Due to GLONASS system, the satellite lockin is awesome, even indoor.
-Never use my Windows tablet anymore, since the Note can handle website and 720p flash contents without sweat.
-Became my sole ebook reader due to the resolution.
-This is the first phone where I felt the onscreen controller for games are actually very usable that I don't (always) need an extra bluetooth gamepad, due to the screen estate.
-Screen quality is amazing, but importantly the hardware can handle the HD MKV videos and have microSD support to store them. I am not ashamed to admit I take delight in the fact the screen quality and viewing angle literally destroy the iPhone 4S screen of peers.
-It's a long phone, my mouth does not even reach down to mic, but delighted people across the line can hear me fine and I'm not a loud mouth. (Though I am on custom rom which might improves the Phone app over stock.)
-With custom rom, it support OpenVPN which is a big deal for me.
I'm so glad I returned the Nexus for the Note. Only downside so far is no official 1700mhz support for T-Mobile , hope something can be done about it.

The size is a personal thing,for me its perfect for both as a phone and a tablet.
J had a Galaxy 10.1 it put a big stress on my arm,to use it I had to lift my arm all the time,so I gave it to my wife a Cello player.
Now with my GNote I sit for hours surfing the net without any stress since I just use my fingers to operate the entire device without lifting an arm,this is even more obvious when I play chess in long sessions,so can't be more happier with the size.

I agree. Its the best phone I have ever used. The huge screen is really an advantage in all aspects.

5,3" is good for surf/video and thats the most important I got the Note for.
S-Pen is a plus and handy if wanna write some short notes to what to buy, since I always forget something at stores, after i got home.
Tab is too big too carry along and 4,3" phone (or whatever size) is just too small for surf/video. Also carry 2 device is not funny.
The Notes 5,3" is perfect and u get 2in1 hybrid device to carry with u.

If that phone were real, I would buy it the instant it was available, and I'd pay $1500 for it without batting an eye. That is my dream device. The only thing I'd want different is for the stylus to be stored onboard. Unfortunately, it's just a concept.

How large is too large? When I first got the HD2 people said it was too large. This is ideal for what it does. Sammy has got it right.

[Q] Honesty and Owers Only Please...

I'm taking the jump into getting an Android tablet, and with the price difference between the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 not being THAT much, i'm torn between the two.
I currently have the Samsung Galaxy S3 and use it to an inch of it's potential so to speak. Mod it, break it, mod it some more, game, wireless controlling, and of course the usual things you do with a phone.
What i am currently researching is the potential to use it as a audio controller to map beats, on-the-fly effects, and recording/sampling/looping with my Guitar and Mic. I understand the iPad's do lead in this technology due to the connector to allow for a multiple of inputs. But, excusing profanity... FnCK Apple.
I need real users to tell me honestly, and truthfully the capabilities they know by first hand experience, and what they have read for me to make a decision on these two devices. I understand this is somewhat opening the can of worms that is Android, so please keep it simple and brief. This is a hard decision!

easy choice for me. I'd never buy a 7 inch tablet no matter how good it is.

There are other threads like this too...Do what you want. If you are going to use it for web, movies, magazine, I'd say go for the 10...if you want a portable E-reader go for the 7. Go to the store and try the 7 and a different 10 inch tablet to see how they feel for you.

I have a gs3 as well and had a nexus 7. The screen size isn't that much of a difference to justify it in the nexus 7 area. The nexus 10 is rly great and works great. Also 10 in screen is just great when you have a larger phone like you and I.

You know that's very true. I have a big phone, so to get the most out of either tablet, i guess screen size (Due to the S3 being a big phone) is actually important. I've never actually seen the Nexus 10 tab up close but i'm guessing i'm going to sex wee some what. Does this thing really fly?

I have a N7 and an iPad 1 now and wanted to upgrade the iPad but am moving away from apple.
The two sized devices sort of have separate use-cases. The larger device sits on my coffee table for quick surfing and email checks while the n7 is always in my bag. I travel constantly and there are many times I need to look something up on the web/calendar/email when I have enough time to not have to use my phone but don't want to pull out my laptop....
Think about where/how you are going to use it (does it need to be REALLY portable or not).
My n10 is due to be delivered Monday, but I have been using the n7 since launch and am very happy with it.

I have ZERO musical experience with EITHER device.
However I own them BOTH (the 7 and the 10) and I'm telling you right now that if you're even remotely torn between the two - GET THE 10.

Yes, i see exactly. I'd be using it to read music off it as well so the size of the N7 does seem just that little bit small. The N10 seems pretty perfect to sit on my book stand as well! Specially with the crazy resolution of the device things will be crystal clear even with the file being fully shown and not zoomed in. Right now - I think the N10 is winning this race!

I'm in a similar dilemma...for your purpose, reading music I think its a no brainer. The picture above says it all, N10 is the clear winner. I'm still not sure if I'm keeping the N10. I'm definitely buying one once its released at Walmart. The N7 is an awesome device and for its size alone is why I think it suits my needs better but until I have the N10 I won't know.

So i have made the decision to go with the Nexus 10. If the hardware specs were swapped around, i would still go for the Nexus 10. I'm wanting a tablet that was going to last at least it's warranty, wasn't going to go "out dated". I feel the screen specifically will be the benchmark for future tablets. That and i don't think there's any reason to go any higher on the resolution part, and i'm picky!
Thank you for the few on XDA that gave me some truly valid input! But i'm now plagued with "Out of Stock" on google. I will have my Nexten!

I have both.
Nexus 10:
PROS:
- You can surf the web like your computer does 100% all the time. (ex: you don't need tapatalk for this forum, I use it in the nexus 7).
- Everysingle Google app it's better IMO. They use the Tablet version, while the Nexus 7 uses modified smartphone versions.
- Screen it's out of this world and has better sensitivity (read below).
- This probably nobody said it before: Nexus 7 lacks good sensitivity in shorter distances. I really like to draw in my tablet, I have a Dagi Stylus and it works like a charm in both tablets. But when I try to draw like 1cm. lines in the nexus 7 (or simply details) it doesn't work, you gotta always zoom in, which some times in unpleasant. If you don't zoom in it draws nothing or like a pixel so it's like there is a longer detection threshold or something (can be the software also, idk). All this in "Sketchbook PRO" app.
- Sketchbook PRO lags a lot in the Nexus 7 and seems not really optimized at least, IDK (it gets worse as you add more layers and more detail to my image). In the other hand it flies in my Nexus 10 even drawing pixels (x2) it seems fluid and the stylus works great. (You can't change the canvas size in sketchbook PRO, it's always 2560x1504 I think). It's way easier to work in tiny distances when I bought my Nexus 10 it was one of the first things I tried since it was so much fail in the Nexus 7. See in the Sketch I did the morning it arrived without too much efford without having to Zoom in and zoom out to draw some random lines of grass to add some noise to the ground.

- Battery seems similar to me (I usually don't play anything in my tablets).
- Sound it WAY WAY WAY better, you can feel the sounds coming in diferent directions.
- Whatever they said I love all the design all around.
- Reading documents it's 100% reliable in the Nexus 10 and sometimes feels short in the Nexus 7 as not all of your doucments are formatted for the screen, you may not be able to read wide PDF's in the Nexus 7 confortably. Nexus 10 works for everything. Which for me was one the most importan features of the tablet.
- Overall seems faster in the OS than the Nexus 7 and faster in this games also: Final fantasy III, Chaos rings.
- You got a rear camera (which I'll never use).
- You a rear camera LED (which I'll frequently use as a light), with a switch widget.
CONS:
- It's heavier and after one hour of holding it you can feel it. Like your hands feel really tired.
- It's wider so you must use it like a tray (90% of the time you will hold it as a tray). Sucks.
- It's bigger and I feel discouraged to take it with me everywhere. I don't think I would take it to my work.
- Some smartphone optimized apps feels like "decent" in the Nexus 7 in the Nexus 10 they look horrible. And there's several of them.
- Some apps crash the tablet. There's several of them also.
- Charging is slow.
- As you read with the lights off, the Nexus 10 and his Bigger screen throws a sillion more light into your eyes, result: Eyes more tired.
- No Tegra 3 optimized games.
- No $20 bucks for apps.
Nexus 7:
PROS:
- Light as a feather, I never got tired of holding it in my hand. Super confortable.
- Perfect wide. There's so many positions to hold it.
- Size and weight feels perfect for carrying around, sometime in the future I may just get a Nokia 3310 and a Nexus 7 with 3g.
- Smartphone apps don't feel that weird.
- Had just a couple of crashes in 2 months. One being after drwaing like 2 hours in Sketchbook, I was sooo pissed.
- Charging is decent.
- Everygame android game in earth should work on this Tegra 3 baby.
- Cheap as hell. Feels like I'm robbing the store.
- For this price it's more premium than the most premium.
- Screen it's really good, you can barely barely see the pixels here.
- It's stylish and cool.
- Size and price it's the perfect balanced between everything. You sacrifice a little functionality for moviility, etc. 10" tablets can do this as well if you dare.
- When I bought it I got $20 bucks for google play apps (idk if that exist anymore).
CONS:
- Cannot 100% replace your laptop web surfing. Screen falls short sometimes.
- Bad screen sensitivity (or maybe bad optimized app, read above).
- Batterys seems similar to me.
- Average / just decent sound. (maybe bad sometimes)
- Several of them came with screen defects (mine included), it's not really a big problem, but WTF.
- As I said, Google apps use a slighly smartphone modified apps for the nexus 7, in the other hand, for the Nexus 10 they use the tablet app.
- Reading bad optimized documents can be a pain in the a** (usually pdf's with wide white colums at the sides which are really really common), with infinite zooming panning, etcetera. If your document has no ilustrations you can work around it, but with them no.
Overall I use more the Nexus 10. Nexus 7 seems excellent for short travels and stuff like that etcetera. But for me in day to day use at home. No doubt. I preffer the big one.

I am saying that as a HAPPY Nexus 10 owner, if you're using this for music creation/editing purposes, make sure first that they have applications that fit your needs on the google play store. As much as I love android, its gaming selection, the awesome ability to root your device, etc., I do admit Apple does have a good amount of apps we don't yet or ever will get, and I know on the Mac side of things Media creation of ANY type is usually better than PC, and I also say that as a PC user and general Anti-Apple person. So if music creation/editing is your #1 concern, you might just have to bite the bullet. Or the Apple.

I've been wanting a tablet for a while now, and I have my eye on the Nexus 10, it's reasonably priced, and has been since it came out, it has an amazing display etc. etc.
But it's really quite old now, I've looked around and there's very much mixed views, I know exactly what I want from a tablet, and I was wondering if the Nexus 10 would be perfectly fine. I know the 2nd Gen. version is supposed to be coming out soon, but if this tablet does everything and want and is cheaper, what's the point in buying the newer one?
Anyway, basically I want a tablet that can easily to the following things:
Browse the internet
Watch movies
Browse Facebook
Be easily able to use Instagram
Easily able to use Snap Chat
Play games
Easily customisable (eg. Home screen backgrounds)
Have a decent front a back back camera
Updates to the latest version of android as soon as it's released
Feels good in the hand
Looks pretty good
Decent battery life
I'm pretty sure the Nexus 10 should be fine for most if not all of this, but I thought I'd check. One thing I think might help if you think I could get a better tablet for a decent price (preferably no more than £300) is that I really like the shape on the Nexus 10, but I really hate the shape of the Nexus 7. I don't know why, it's just one if those things I guess.

Tbh I was in the same predicament as you a couple of months ago. I wanted a tablet for pretty much the same reasons as u as I'm working away from home quite often.
I've already got a Nexus 5 purely for stock android, timely updates and a great device at a great price so I thought I'd check out the Nexus 10 first. I stumbled across Expansys selling the 32gb model for £255 whereas it was still down as £390 on the playstore and I'm pleased to say I'm chuffed with my purchase. Even the tab is quite old in tech terms it's still fast, the screen is amazing and I got 4.4.3 automatically yday.
I rooted both my devices today too so that's only improved the experience. I would recommended getting the 32gb to be on the safe side but unfortunately Expansys only seem to stock the 16gb version now. However ebays worth a look, I got my dad a mint 32gb nexus 10 with a case for £260.

Nexus 10 has a reasonably good internet browsing ability, as I'm often far from my laptop I'm using it most of time. In lastest updates Chrome Beta has showed some issues (white screen with nothing, reoppening the app will fix it), but I think soon an update will be released to fix it.

Front facing speakers and a 2K (qHD) screen, you'll not be disappointed. Watched lots of movies and animes in it already, must say it's a great experience.

Browse Facebook
There's a dedicated Facebook app, but with the 10" screen you can set up web browser Facebook to show up as desktop, it works very good. I'm not a Facebook fanatic, so I don't use it too much, however every time I use it, it's not bad.

I put those 3 together for one reason. Tablets were not born to take pictures, while the camera isn't bad, you don't have a good either. This video was recorded using the front facing camera:

Play games
I have tons of games on mine xD. It's very pleasant to play Dead Trigger 2 on such a high resolution screen, completed Katawa Shoujo Visual Novel on it (8 hours gameplay lol), also many others. While some games like Modern Combat 4 and NOVA 3 were downscaled, but most games run pretty well and have good resolution. Just keep in mind low resolution games will look horrible, due to big screen and huge screen resolution

Man, you're on Android. You can customize anything you want. The way you want. If you don't like Stock Homescreen, then download another one (I, for example, use NOVA Launcher, because it's the one that I like at most). If you want a ridiculously easy app to customize, then use Themer .

Soon the Android update policy will end for Nexus 10, but the next update is very likely to arrive on Nexus as soon as it will be released. Also it has a great dev support, so it's very likely we will continue to have updates for a long time

Decent battery life
9,000mAh battery. I get 4-5 hours screen on time easily! With moderate usage, with heavier usage I get 3h30min-4hours usage . So it's an amazing battery life.

I've used a fire.. dont know on the HDX, the its not very configureable. Its not a real droid.. its a neutered. I'd rather have a true droid than that monstrosity I have (I own a first gen kindle fire)

AFAIK Kindle Fire HDX also run FireOS, which is the customized version of Android by Amazon, so I don't think you'll have something too different from your current Fire. I'm not an expert on FireOS though, the best would be to find some reviews and videos about it, then you'd have a good idea of what you'd get .

its customized.. the same way mac is a customized version of next step. without root, which breaks things, you cannot do much to your desktop, very little configuration is available to the system, no play store and if you sideload theres a good chance it wont work (like chrome).
