Hey guys, just wondering if it's possible to change the keyboard used on the lock screen? I use Go Keyboard but the lock screen is the default. On my last phone (the HTC One X), the lock screen used the same keyboard (although that could've just had to do with running a custom rom). I looked through the Go Keyboard settings and couldn't find anything.

I would say that's a bug not a feature...
I am stock rom and the keyboard is everywhere the same.in my case swype.
The only time it was changing for me it was when I greenified the keyboard...
Thats weird. Like I said, it worked on my last phone fine.

I have tried all the various input methods, but now the keyboard is too huge to use. Only the left half shows on my VX6900. If I go into Landscape mode about 2/3 is visible. I don't know what happened. I was holding the Menu button to bring up the keyboard and suddenly it changed and became massive with some extra icons on the bottom left, like one for settings that were not visible previously on the compact keyboard. Is there a way to get it back to normal without cleaning the SD card and starting anew? I would lose info, if so.

Check the resolution set in you default.txt? That could be causing the issue.
The display is fine. All the apps appear fine. I set the default at 320 height 240 width at 120 lcd density. It's been running great. The keyboard is all that has screwed up, and that had been fine.
Are you using the HTC_IME keyboard or the Android keyboard? I had issues with the HTC_IME in landscape too, so I just stopped using it and have been using the basic Android keyboard.
I don't know. I didn't change anything if that's what you're asking. How would I put it back to the Android keypad if that had happened?
i know this sounds dumb, but did you try restarting the phone?
Yes... Do you think I'd be able to unlock a phone and install another operation system and be that dense?

Some of us are that dense (points to self ). Are you using the black QWERTY soft keyboard, or the white one? The white one with multiple layouts (qwerty, phone keypad etc) is the HTC_IME. I haven't had it work right for me in some time. If you long press on an text box, then you should be able to select the keyboard that you're using. Switch to the Android one and see what happens?
I think you had it right before, I think I downloaded something that had a keyboard with it, a theme that didn't install. And it screwed it up. Since I couldn't use the phone at all, I went ahead and just reset the whole thing. It's working now. Thanks for the help though.

sorry for trying to help, i guess i wont next time
Wasn't trying to be a smart ass. Just was frustrated that I couldn't solve the problem and the system.img for the Vogue for 1.5 doesn't exist online anymore, so now I'm running 1.6 which is nice, but now GPS doesn't work. So had a working machine that was stable, now not so much.
oh well, i have the system.img for 1.5 oh well
So, the stock G1 virtual keyboard sucked compared to the HTC_IME keyboard. How's the virtual keyboard on the G2? Is there a calibration tool?
Enquiring minds want to know
8-9 hours and counting down until my G2 arrives...
Mine arrived with Swype set as the default keyboard. It's usable, but takes some getting used to with the whole finger-gymnastics thing. It also accepts typing like a standard on-screen keyboard... I'm finding that a bit easier to use than on the G1 mostly due to the larger screen size. I don't see a way to calibrate it in the settings, but it's got a couple of options for adjusting frequency of the word choice window and speed vs. accuracy.
Yea in using the default Swype. Its pretty good, just takes some time to get use to. I find myself being a letter off somethings. But the better screen makes vk way better then the g1 u git more space

Thanks all, I'd forgotten about the fact that swype was the default. I'm interested in trying it. It's supposed to be quick and easy once you get used to it.
Is the regular android keyboard available?
Yes, you can disable Swype and use the standard Android keyboard, in the Language & Keyboard settings. Long-tapping a text field to change the input method also lets you switch between 'em on the fly if you have both enabled (default settings have 'em both enabled).
I use the stock keyboard over swype. The froyo keyboard if you have never used it is ten times better than 1.6. They continue to improve the keyboard and honestly I don't need another keyboard besides swype (I use it from time to time). Trust me you won't have issues with it. You can drag up and the numbers and symbols will show up for quick selection without having to enter symbol key.

Sweet, I've never used the Froyo vk. I've practically never used the stock pre-Froyo because it was so bad and the HTC was so much better. I'm looking forward to both the Froyo standard and the swype.
Thanks
My phone is coming in today. Sometimes the UPS guy arrives before I get home (4:30) but usually they show up between 5 and 7pm. If it's not there when I get home, I suspect I'm going to pace back and forth staring at the front door like a tiger at the zoo.
especially when connected to Power cable i would prefer when screen would be rotated by 180°.
Yes i know there is auto rotation but this does not concern the lock screen an also some apps are ignoring this feature. Also the home screen is set to 0° after unlocking.
I'seen in different threads, that it is possible in CM7 to flip the screen my default but it is allways mentioned to consult the rom developer and never sayed ho to do this.
can anyone help ?
are you talking about cm7 or stock rom ?
in stock you can lock the screen by tapping the status bar and select unlocked
this will not affect the lock screen but my launcher (go launcher)
i'm about cm7.
maybe ther might be settings for one or the other launcher but i want to flip the screen globally so that it affects every app including the lock screen.
edit: i assume this must be done by configuring the graphics driver
I agree. It would be nice to keep power button on top.

i think to remember that there is a setting for this in /system/build.prop
found:
ro.sf.hwrotation=270
where you change the 270 into either 180, 90, or 0....
!!! but use at your own risk !!!
yes thats it man.
but now i habe to find a way to rotate the touchscreen as well
you will have to rotate the touchscreen and the accelerometer as well
i think that will not be so easy because it's compiled or linked in the souce code
sorry ...
yes this seems to be hard coded and needs a patch. I've never built android from source so i will no gonna put my hands on.
could anybody please place this as a feature request to the developpers. I've no permission to post in the devs forum.
well, i've 9 posts. including this one it will be 10
New to Nexus Tablet.
Unlocked and Rooted, still on stock ROM and kernal.
Just wondering if there's a way to move the keyboard from the bottom of the screen to the top. Because of the way I hold the tablet, it would be easier for me to sometimes have a keyboard accessible on the top of the screen. Are there any apps that can change the keyboard location? I want to avoid flashing a new ROM because I'm actually liking the stock experience.
I'm using a SWYPE keyboard but would totally switch if needed.
Thanks!
I quite often use a bt keyboard with my n7, for work etc, but one thing that bugs me is that although the n7 will wake by pressing a key on the keyboard, you still need to swipe the screen to unlock it.
when i am not using the keyboard i use the lockscreen with the slider shortcuts.
So my question is, is there a way to set up things so that when the keyboard is connected, coming out of wake will skip the lock screen? and then when the keyboard isnt connected the lockscreen works as normal?
I know i could just change the settings but i dont want to have to do that every time.
