Saves a lot of finger swiping if you've had a lot of apps open!

Thanks!
Good app!
Yes thank you for this, very useful to have as i use it all the time on my samsung phone, shame that sony don't just add it as an option?
I'd also like to see an option to restart the tablet so i don't have to switch it fully off and then back on?
Not the easiest thing, but you can press the volume + side of the rocker and the power button until the notification light flashes once. It'll then reboot, or if you wait for three flashes it'll shut down.

That process is like pressing and holding the power button on a Windows device. It will shut down, yes, but the system won't do the needed proccesses so it can be shut down safely, as not to corrupt any files or cause any bigger problems.

Okay, maybe not never...but hardly ever!
I'm sure there are multiple ways to avoid pressing the power button, including trackball wake, but I don't even like pressing that.
The buttons which I find the most sturdy are the volume buttons.
So my solution has been to get SwitchPro widget from the market (which I got purely for the looks), 99 cents I think, and turn on the widget which says "auto-lock".
After that, the screen never fully locks, so when you press the volume keys, it thinks youre chaning the ringer volume, and brightens the screen up.
The big question, does this waste more battery? And after 2 weeks, I can say absolutely not a bit.
This solution won't work for everybody of course, especially those who need their phones to lock. But I hope that it helps someone.
Why shouldn't i use my phones power button? :-(
I like to use it to put it to sleep and power it on...

They are a bit of a weak point in the design. They have a high rate of failure with use.
Just to add,
To reboot and get into recovery, you can use Qucik Boot app, its free and you dont have use the power button for the same.
Lock screen widget + widget locker + quick boot = never have to touch the power button

You've never had it break on you. Mine crapped out 2 days after I got my Nexus back in July last year. I've tried to use my power button as little as possible since then.
There's a small plastic leaf spring that gets dislodged or breaks... I'm not sure.. But if replaced fixes the power button issue...

I thought the same thing. Mine went out 2 weeks ago, after almost a year of use. It isn't completely dead yet, 1 out of 30 tries it'll work. So currently I'm using the "Extended Widgets - Widget Locker - Quick Boot" method to handle anything involving the power button. Turn the screen on with volume button, as my current rom doesn't have TB wake.

You can install my app called "Screen Off and Lock" + NoLock (Both are free), then you won't need to use your power button anymore.
Hey guys.
Ive been having a lot of trouble with my power button. At first it became less responsive (Having to push the button 2-3 times to activate the screen).
Now it seems like it is not working at all (Having to push 6-7 times).
Anyone seen this problem before and knows of a way to fix it?
Or does anyone know a workaround? (Like using the search button to act like the power button perhaps?)
Thanks in advance.
I don't really have any suggestions on how to fix the power button itself, but I do have a few workarounds if you're interested
The first is Smart Screen ON. This app was featured on the main portal not too long ago, and I have to say, it works quite well. It uses the proximity sensor to turn the screen on and (optionally) off. In the span of two weeks, it's saved my phone over 2000 power button presses (the app keeps track). I have been running the app 24/7 since I installed it and have not noticed any impact on battery life. I'd say it's worth a try.
As an alternative, you may have some luck with ButtonRemapper (requires root). It should let you remap the search button like you had wanted. You could just edit the keyboard files directly, but this app makes it pretty simple. : )
Also, in case you didn't know, the home button will wake the phone by default, but it obviously doesn't turn the screen back off.

Thats what im trying to avoid.
What program did you use to remap the button?
Thanks for the info man!
Yeah it's a ***** how the phone only lasts a year before it starts breaking but glad i can get rid of it in 2 months.
I use ButtonRemapper, i take it you have root access so just download the .APK i have attached and its pretty simple just find the search key in the app and change it so it acts like the power button (It's simply you will get it when you open the app). Once you have done that the phone works fine when in normal use you just gotta tap the search button not the power button.
But as my power button is fully broken im not sure if the power button works if the phone turns off. So my work around is plug the charger in then when you see the sony logo keep taping the volume down until you launch in CWM and then just tap reboot now and it will boot up, hope this helps.
It's the only work around without having to spend money i could think off, so defiantly a good temp fix.
Yeah i think the build quality of this device isnt what it could've been. Although im happy the screen hasnt broken yet.
Thanks for the APK!

Hi All,
Hope this is the right section...
I have a lenovo thinkpad tablet & my power button seems to be faulty - I can't feel the usual resistance when I press it anymore and pressing the power button no longer does anything - a real pain once the tablet goes to sleep...
I was wondering if there's any way to set up a different physical button to act as the power button, or at the very least, allow a different physical button to wake the device?
Usually when something like this happens to a device I open it and try to fix it, but I really don't want to destroy another perfectly good piece of technology!! :silly:
Thanks all!!
As long as it's not off, you should be able to wake it by plugging it in with the charger or putting it on/taking it off of the dock. Works for me.
This might work
Try this app in Google play.
Might work based on the description I read:

If you're on stock TW, you can enable palm gestures and swipe from left to right. If you're on a custom ROM, chances are there is an option to add "take screenshot" to the extended power menu accessed by holding the power button.
Try this
In my experience you have to hold the buttons for a second or two; it's not a quick "click" -- it's a press, hold, release.
Power Button + Home button works for me 99% of the time. Just make sure to press them at the exact same time and hold until it takes the screenshot...
The wave your palm over the phone gesture is the one that sucks, in my opinion. That one works less than 50% of the time for me and I see no reason to ever enable it when you can just press Power Button + Home easily...

Agreed. When I swipe to take a screenshot, many times it changes the page and then takes the pic! Maybe I just need to perfect my technique. When I do the power/home button trick, I make sure to press the power button just before I hit the home button and that seems to work well for me.

I agree - anytime the palm swipe has worked for me is if my phone is laying on a flat surface, the screen is completely clean and i really focus on setting my hand on the edge and quickly swiping. Most times I just turn the page or move the screen.
Holding Home + Power Button is the way to go.
If may work better for anyone having trouble with the button method if you hold the power button with your left hand and the home with your right simultaneously. That's the only way my girlfriend can do it.

+1 ... unless one or both of your buttons have issues with their contacts.
Home and power button is the easiest ever, you must have issues with your buttons...

I am using D802 version, and I am facing a huge problem on my phone, that' s I cannot use the screenshot function, when I press home and vol down botton together, it only shows the vol slider on the screen.
As I have rooted and delete some system apps already, so I wonder am I delete the wrong system apps to make the screenshot function gone, can anyone help me? Or tell me which system apps is related to the screenshot function? Thanks.
Lol you just might be not pressing fast enough.
When in doubt, use Qmemo.
Hi,I have already tried way and speed to press the power and volume button, but it still fail.....
Can anyone help me please?
Try to hold it little longer. Got this problem too at first and now it's working. Lol, I don't know what really the problem. But try it many times and eventually it will work. GL
slide up from the home button to the right... from there on the top you can choose to save your screen or directly share it you can also draw on it... pressing the vol down and power can get awkward on the g2 Qmemo is the way to go
Put your fingers on both buttons. Hit volume down first and then quickly after hit power. "Bah-dum" is how it will sound. Wait 1-2 seconds and screenshot captured.
I do have to try QMemo.

One word: QuickMemo. Did you not get the memo?
Thought I had this problem as well, but I also didn't press long enough. Though it's much more convenient as mentioned before to use QuickMemo.
Press them down at the same time and hold until you hear or see the screenshot. Works perfectly for me the key is holding it down long enough.
