[Q] How do I know if I have "Busybox" on my S4? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Just as the question states lol... I see some root apps need Busybox installed as a prerequisite, just wondering how to know if I have it installed or not. Thanks!

If your box is busy... That was lame. Haha

if my memory serves me correct then the app that requires busybox should state that your phone doesnt have it isntalled and it would like to help you isntall it

The easy way:
Goto the playstore and search for busybox.
If it says installed, you're all good. If not, install it.
The little bit harder way:
Open up a terminal on the phone and type "busybox" at the prompt. If its installed it will give you version/help info.
or
Connect phone to your computer and make sure usb debugging is enabled.
open a command prompt on your computer.
Type "adb shell busybox"
The same version/help info should come up.

Which one is the real busybox? There are a few of em' on the Play Store. Thanks guys! :good:

Same.
Again, to check for your installation type busybox in terminal. There is no harm in downloading the play store app though. If you have it already it will just apply any updates.

Market alternative

Hello everyone, I'm happy to say that I'm hosting a 'market' specifically for Sprint Hero root users. If anyone is interested in this, you can install it on your phone in a few steps.
First, download the market program and install it on your phone. It's at http://app2.bikcmp.com:4121/dl/Aptoide.apk
Once you install it, launch it and press no to add their default repository. Then, press menu>Manage repo>menu>New repository. The url to the repository should be EXACTLY:
http://app2.bikcmp.com:4121/repo/files/
After that, go back and you should be able to see the applications. If you're a developer and have a application you'd like to add, or have a question, feel free to email me: [email protected].
Yes, I know there aren't many applications in it right now.

Oops, my mistake. It's app2, not apps2.
Is there a way to see what's availible in your market from the computer?

Depends: A pretty way? No. A basic way? Yes.
http://app2.bikcmp.com/repo/files/ has a directory listing of the apk's, and you can download them from there too.

[Q] Installing First App Without PC

Hello guys,
Need help here. How can I install my first app after a complete wipe without using a computer? I'm thinking of doing a fresh wipe and not planning to install Google Apps. The only way I can think of is adb, but I don't have access to a computer. Is there a possible way to do this? Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers!
Edit : Owh yea, by the way the first app would be Astro Manager.

If you already downloaded it on your g2, the apk file should be in data/app
You need a Root explorer like 'ES File Explorer' for it to acces the map.
Or isnt that your question?

Please see FAQ from apk-downloader where it states:

As XDA Forum Rules specifially state "Don't get us in trouble.", please refrain from posting such that would violate any Terms of Service. Link removed.
Also let me remind you that XDA does not promote the use of Warez so if it is the intent of the OP to reproduce paid APK's by asking this info, you may want to go elsewhere.
Thank you.
My apologies TRM. I was at work when I saw that and didn't get to read up on it. Thank you for removing the link.
Exactly why I didn't realy want to use it.
I got es file explorer and went into /system/app directory but it only shows the stock apks. It doesn't show the downloaded apks from the market... all the settings are enabled for root visibility... what am I doing wrong?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Afaik I don't think you can just grab them. There are means of obtaining the apk files which I won't talk about, and don't PM me about it. Now, if you want those said apks for backup purposes, just install titanium backup.
Sent from my ghdudsjihfr using dhhcdfhuf.
I use a certain app from market that allows you to pull the APK of an already installed app so you can sideload on another device. My particluar use is taking apps that aren't available for my tablet from my phone and transfering it over (Tiny Tower, Contacts, etc...)

[Request] Stock Samsung Apps Dump

So at first i thought all this bloat was just bs. But after some things i've checked out some apps i kinda wish i still had some of the Samsung apps. Unfortunately I'm a fool and instead of freezing i just deleted from Tibu.
Any help?
Did I post in the wrong section?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
In the development section there is a post that says "factory stock" using Odin. You could either reset to factory using this method or download the zip file and extract the app you need.

I'll just extract it thanks!!

You can te download all the apps from samsung hub too. Deleting chat on will break svoice. Only way to get it back is to Odin or Kies

So i just Dl'ed the odin file and when i extract it all i see is the md5 file and ss_DL... Nothing there to pull the apks.
Can some one just dump the apks?
At least try and help your self...there is like only 5 threads in the dev section...come on its not that hard...took me less than 10 seconds to find this -_- next time follow forum rules and search before creating a thread

Man come on don't be lazy.... Just log into samsung hub and download... its like 5 seconds....
That would be easy if I didn't debloat my phone and get rid of hub. I never asked to be called lazy i just searched the forum like everyone should. Didn't see **** because i obviously didn't know what de-odexed meant so i thought i would start a new thread. Sorry that it comes off lazy i thought in general i could ask this dumb question instead of taking up a developer post.

I noticed the previously posted de-odexed dump was not complete. Its missing several items. Below are links to my attempt at de-odexing the system apps and framework. It is a complete dump.
Deodexed framework (MD5 543acaded314224318cd90775654b57c)
Deodexed apps (MD5 58de9c029f1f62ba06dcc634020eeca9)
I have actually pushed this to my device and verified its working. I did this by "stop"ing the Android runtime, using the internal "SD" with adb push and some for loops then an adb reboot. I will not provide more detailed instructions.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU TRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
I hope other ROM developers can use this as a base once we have a safe way to restore soft bricks.

-_- then extract the apps and use a file explorer to push them to /system, adb isnt the only way...but I really think for you the easiest way is to return to stock...theres a thread in the dev section...just requires a couple clicks of the mouse

I'm definitely new in the game but just wanted to clarify this statement. I disabled a bunch of the bloatware apps prior to rooting my S4 today. The only app I deleted using Rom Toolbox Lite was ChatOn before deciding it wasn't a good idea to remove anything instead of just leaving all the bloatware disabled.
I went back and re-installed ChatOn and ChatOn Voice & Video Chat through Google Play / Market and S Voice seems to be working just fine. I saw another thread that said uninstalling/deleting ChatOn would affect S Voice but I'm not seeing this effect. Was re-installing ChatOn through Google Play store vs Odin or Kies a waste of time?
Still learning here, any feedback is appreciated.
Edit: I ended up just doing recovery through Kies to ensure the stock apps were restored appropriately and made sure not to disable ChatOn this time. Just curious why S-Voice worked for me after having rooted and deleted ChatOn but others had issues with this.

Help with Apk Editor

First of all. I don't know if this is the right section of the forum to put this. But I messed around a bit with the snapchat app using Apk Editor. But I can't install the app. I tried puting it here (see picture down below) but it didn't work. I changed permission but I didn't change the name. Do I have to do that? Or do I have to do something else for it to work.

All you have to do is install the apk. You probably got a different signature on the app so you have to uninstall the original one first.

From terminal emulator or adb shell do "pm install /full/path/to/file.apk" and post the error here, the full path is important, even if you run it from the directory it is in it will fail.

Use "ZipSigner" on PlayStore to sign the app, maybe you need to learn how to decompile and compile apks if you want mod apps. Look at my xda thread of apktool.
