I like my Note 8.0, its hardware specs still very good...once we get 4.4.2, I am sure it will be even better!
a couple weeks, I am sure Samsung will push 4.4.2 update
only thing is rooting 4.4.2 is going to be quite challenging because of darn Knox that comes with it...
I wonder how long it'll take for us Canadians to get it... lol
Cannot wait for uk version, not worried about rooting atm, well chuffed.

at least until there will be a way to use sky go with root
My guess is we won't see it till about the end of March or so. And if its carrier branded the even later but if its At&t the I doubt the note 8 will see it at all since they block alot of Samsung stuff

Thats good news then, I only noticed these reports today and started to worry. I was thinking that I would not be able to use a file manager for example, to copy photos from my internal storage to external as back up etc... Having seen similar articles crop up on multiple sources at the same time lead me to beleive that this was real concern.
Out of interest, what device have you got running 4.4.2? If its the Nexus 7, that doesnt have an SD card slot. Do you use USB storage with it then in order to assertain that this isn't an issue?

as far as i am aware this is a real problem, especially for power users.
There are perhaps some ways to circumvent this if you are rooted, but for stock users it'a PITA.
as third party apps do not have the normal write permissions on external sd card, thus they cannot write to any arbitrary folder except their native (Android\data\com.app.name.package...) so a lot of apps (mostly utility) that make use of external sd card (such as backup to custom location etc) will stop functioning.
Again it's just a Matter of time when kit-kat hits Note 8 and then we will know for sure how bad it is in real.
Have heard note 3 users complain about this.
Does your 4.4.2 device have an external micro sd card and is it stock?

I'm a root user so I'm not too bothered. I'll only upgrade if it's shown that there are significant performance and stability improvements in a later version. I just wanted to make sure non root users were aware of this, especially given that the note 8 doesn't have a lot of internal storage space ( for ages only the 16gb version was available). I imagine many people rely on their micro sd cards

I am actually talking about my S4 (actually my wife's international version). It is running leaked samsung 4.4.2 kitkat, it has moved to SD option, which works perfectly fine, she already got tons of stuff on her 64GB SD stuff...no issue.
don't take me wrong, I am not saying this won't be issue, just liked to passed this info...
Will this increase spen features? If yes, I'll probably hang on to my note 8 a little longer after the new one comes to my country...

Could be preparation for ICS, Although that is just a guess.
Anytime i see anything about an update i just keep thinking it's ICS!!
Can't wait for it.

So XLA4 is the big update they're pushing out to everyone?

Info about the update
Hello guys!
I bought my Galaxy Note in France (I work there).
The PDA/PHONE/CSC are XXKKA/XXKK5/XXKK5.
Build info is Friday 11 Nov...
How is it possible to receive official updates (stock roms) without flashing?
Please do not start telling me to read guides and so on... I worked on Android platform and after this experience I am aware how preparing roms and custom stuff is obviously a great challenge, gives you great satisfaction, but makes the phone be more prone to crashes, memory leaks and so on.
Thank you in advance.
update
No update for slovakia, orange. just waiting for ICS
patient is a virtue tow weeks. when i bought my xoom, after 6 mounts of delays my daily routine was check for updates , not any more..

I'm sure you were joking but this actually does raise a point that people should take into consideration:
If the phone is bought from the UK but the firmware is German, then it will get German upgrades. If it's bought from amazon.de and has Chinese firmware then it will only get Asian upgrades.
It doesn't matter where you buy the phone from, it matters what country the firmware is directed at. I also own a UK note which has BRI as the sales code and I don't have any update even though I live in Finland.

Depressing really.
I have to say, the new update for N8010 (MA5) is just awesome. Runs fluid like hell (about 6100 points in quadrant w/o tweaks or OC, for those who wants to know).
No new apps, afaics.
USB-OTG got fixed again, works, but unfortunately not with "high-powered" devices like my 2,5 inch hdd, btw it works with my galaxy s3 and get power, but not on my note 10.1
Oh Irony I hope the devs can rule this problem out, would really apprentice to see my external harddrives working with my note
I guess, its all I can say at this moment, since I couldnt test the new firmware completely (cause of exams -.-)

It is great, one of the things I really like is the on screen commands. Makes going back and forth thru web pages and content a breeze. 2nd only to the quick launch bar at the bottom that lets you pan thru, split screen or cascade windows. When you are on the web you don't have to waste time shutting windows to open an app. Next is the paper artist app, I really like it but it pales to PS which received the latest update. SNote was always good and much better. Now when you see something on a screen you just hold down the pen button while drawing "any shape, letter, number whatever" and you can save the content to a scrap book. Those are just the ones I appreciate so far.
One thing I have always liked about Samsung devices is on the keyboard is the www. and .com so you just type in the site name and you don't have to keep repetitively putting in the same www and .com for every site you visit. Another thing is voice tweeting. On twitter I just voice type in my posts. Last but not least you can write on any picture outside of SNote. In gallery you can send pics as postcards by just choosing a picture and edit. It turns the picture on it's back and you can handwrite or type in your message, then email. If you want to write on the face take a snap shot and then do so or go to PS or SNote. Too much to like I could go on and on. The best tablet I have ever had and I have had many.

About country versions:
Experience shows that the waiting time for your country firmware version or an OTA update for your country depends on the priority your country has for samsung (waiting time of 1 day, many months or possibly never get an update for your country).
Samsung firmware for the Note 10.1 includes all languages and is almost identical in all country versions (with exception of the China version).
Also the German version offers all languages at setup. You just have to select Samsung Keyboard in your language version in settings and the firmware will be like your own country version.
You should backup all your data/apps/settings with something like Titanium backup, install the new firmware and then do a factory reset.
You can also not do the factory reset, but you may have compatibility problems.
To install firmware on your Note 10.1 you need Odin.

The N8000 got it first because it is the most expensive, main device, almost a copy of the N7100.
N8013 got it second this time because you were lucky. N8000 and 8010 are international versions, N8013 is a USA only, regional subversion.

You can also use mobile ODIN if you are rooted and want to keep root.
This bypasses the using of a PC if you download the update to your tablet, unrar it and then flash with mobile ODIN.
If you want a perfectly stock rom then you just untick everroot option and tick clear cache/data and clear dalvik cache.

mobile odin is not free. everroot for keeping root is only in the paid version.
mobile odin installs a custom kernel, not the original samsung kernel.
Is this custom kernel based on the new 2013 samsung kernel that patches exynos exploit (the patch is in the kernel) ?

Wrong lol completely, lol joking but no N8000 got its ROM first not because its more expensive that's totally incorrect. Only because it has phone capabilities and is the starting point of the base rom. Once they where done making it for the N8000 then all they do is change the features in it to make it compatible with the other note 10.1's. We basically all have the same ROM just with changes made. And the CMA1, CMA3, and CMA5 at the end of the build names are just build dates not exactly versions.

Instead of having the the status bar at the top, it's all at the bottom, a visible home, back and multi task buttons are shown as well as the quick launch buttons moving to a menu that appears when you hit the time (which gets moved to the bottom right hand corner of the screen)
In the 4.1.2 firmwares, you enabled it by changing the dpi to something like 160, it makes the interface less "kiddie like".
You can still change the DPI but, ever since 4.2.2 for this device, you've not able to enable Tablet UI, as they've removed it from the framework. I flashed it about 20 minutes after posting my question and discovered that it's still gone, which totally sucks!

Thanks for the info.
Yes I remember my Lenovo ThinkPad tablet worked that way.
For me I'm maybe happier with th phone layout as it is the same as my phone. Did I just write that.
Anyway thanks for the heads up.
I have upgraded to 4.2.2 also but can't really see a difference.
Hoping we get 4.3 and can we hope for 4.4 too?
I don't know why the Note 8 is not considered a Samsung premium product. It is premium for me, can even use it as a phone in a pinch.
Hello guys, can you help how to flash it on my galaxy not 8 N5100 3g . And anyway to do it without losing any of my installed apps. and with without losing my setting. i mean exactly like i'm updating my device OTA or throw samsung kies ?

Use mobile Odin, that will update it without data loss.

Apparently I didn't look hard enough. There is a Tablet mode using Note 8 Switcher but just looks like a DPI change.
Upgrading an encrypted Note8
My Note8 is encrypted because of the BYOD policy in our company. It is my first Samsung appliance and is also my first encrypted appliance I am going to upgrade.
Did someone try this kind of ODIN-pushed upgrade
- on an encrypted Note8?
- or on another encrypted 4.1-based Samsung appliance?
Do you think it will work?
I believe Galaxy Gear support will be added.
The download link from the OP is not valid anymore because HOTFILE.COM has been closed.
SAMMOBILE is transferring its downloadable content to TERAFILE.CO but that ROM is not available yet there.
I found another copy here:

Run update now folks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------EDITED 5pm CST
EDIT: so far through this thread we have learned a few things.
1. The cellular south flash on sam mobile site is the XAR flash which is the original 4.3 US
2. The new update for US is 4.4.2 comes in at 540MB
Build number: KOT49H.P600UEUCND2
Kernel Version: 3.4.39-1146904 Sat, Apr 12th 2014
3. New icons throughout the KitKat update:
New multiwindow,
new notifications drop down window,
smaller notification icons,
all white notification icons,
definately more responsive,
multiwindow tab is gone but hold down back arrow and it appears,
multiwindow allows for a 2 app paired icon creation for easy open
-----------------------------EDIT APRIL 25TH 345 AM
We now have reports of fixing the COO update by using Kies or by downloading the Sam Mobile Cellular South ND2 4.4.2.
Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread!
The update is coming in at 540MB and the download is slow.
The reason I waited for this OTA update is because those that flashed the COO 4.4.2 in the US/North America region might not ever get back to the proper region without a full official flash. When I looked at the sammobile firmwares there were zero 4.3 versions with a North America region on it. So I doubt we will see our 4.4.2 full flash either.
Good Luck to those that did flash the COO region update.
my updated downloaded and is installing now. Will post back with the changes.

What is the benefit of having the US version over the COO one we are using now?
Looks like Samsung's servers are overloaded. My ota wont download. It says try at a later time

Not sure yet, only 75% downloaded.
Region COO being Colombia is not US from what I have read over the last 5 days.
If I ever have to sell or warranty the unit, I foresee an easier attempt to do either with the proper region.
Yep, noticed I'm getting it as well here in Northern VA
There was an "full flash" MK1 US update, so there will be a KitKat firmware available. Everything will be fine.

Total file size is 549.37 MB. It is most definitely Kit Kat 4.4.2
The Samsung Sites both official and non, show ZERO Full flashes for the SM-P600 wifi only model at 4.3
That was what worried me about flashing to COO, if I cant find the original anywhere, how am I going to find the 4.4.2 full flash for U.S.
I am happy to report the update is 90% done.
If you want to see progress bar, just go into settings and general and about and software update and update now.

If you are rooted the update should be in your cache folder.
I stopped rooting when the hardware caught up and now with KNOX and no carrier warranty exchanges I left the NOTE 10.1 2014 alone

Not rooted, so can't upload file then, I guess.
This morning, my Note received a rather large software update that installed without many problems. Most likely certain security updates, but I was surprised to receive it as we are not really "accustomed" to any attention from Samsung for this tablet. Any further comments from anybody else?
I got the same.

Sorry for the misspelling. I meant to say "without any problems" not "without many problems". In fact, the whole update process was smooth and fast. Everything works fine. I understand, however, that everyone's setup is different and my experience should not be the absolute rule.
Nothing here on my device. Although it might be because I'm in Sweden.
Did anyone see any changes? I dont see/feel anything other than the version number change even the security patch level date remained the same. Is there a changelog somewhere

There's a whole new Lollipop firmware on the San mobile firmware site.
Yes...problems
My tablet updated and now the OS boots super slow and then does a soft shutdown and reboots a second time. It takes more than 60 secs to get to the home screen. Anyone know how to uninstall this update?

I've seen this post for a few days but not had time to respond till now.
I've got an SM-P605v. Haven't seen, or been able to download the update you've mentioned. This may be because I don't use Verizon as my connectivity partner, or it may be that my particular tablet's OS doesn't need the security updates that yours did.

I also have a SM-P605V but have Verizon as my carrier. I got the notification to update today. I don't see anything on VZW site about it nor under the specific SKU on SamMobile (still has 10/15/15 as the last official update). When looking at the SM-P605 model, there are some in the list (even today's date), though they are for non-USA countries.
Even so, it looks like they are still all Android 5.1.1, so it's likely just some minor tweaks. To my understanding, you would need to pop in an activated Verizon SIM to get the update for your specific tablet, as Verizon is the one that issues it. You can also wait until it's posted on SamMobile and manually do it. https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P605V/

I think I found the official from Verizon: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/samsung-galaxy-note-10-2014-update/
Software Version: LMY47X.P605VVRSDPL1
The current software update gives you the most up to date Androidâ„¢ security patch on your device.

You should be able to flash this now that Sammobile posted it... https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-P605V/
I got this a couple of days ago - managed to odin flash after I put the wrong file and got the boot loader triangle a day before.
Its extremely stable and the tablets working like a dream - the only issue is no root.
Edit: I noticed a great improvement in battery management and it will charge to 100% from 30% in 4 hours before I flashed the 5.1.1 rom it took nearly 8 hours with a new(second hand) USB Flex connector and nearly 20 hours with the old usb flex connector to go from 30% to 100%.
I really like this tablet - it reminds me so much of my SM-N910F note 4.
You can root the latest firmware and also install twrp. I have a 600.

Probably just a security update
Please excuse my silly question but I have P600 with 5.1.1 and never rooted. Do I need to install twrp before I update or it doesn't matter? Updates always make me uneasy with locking bootloader or needing new root methods.
If you just want to update then flash with Odin and the appropriate file. Try looking at sammobile.com for the appropriate rom file.
If you want root then you will need to install a custom recovery using CF auto or Twerp - the latter will NOT work on the SM-605v version as the bootloader is locked and will result in the yellow triangle and stating that the tablet has a strange recovery and that you should see a verizon technician. By installing the recovery you can then update the system or even try out new roms created by the people of this wonderful community.
Rooting will potentially stop business application with built in security from working - i.e. HSBC application, Virgin Media app and Sky Movies apps will not work on rooted phones to name a few.
I updated and rooted and everything is working ok. I had trouble with 64gb Sandisk microsd with "sd card unexpectedly removed" error. Then it mount itself back. Sometime it shows empty and asks to format and sometime it works. Also the lockscreen flicker and that usually when the card error happened. I suspect they are related and it happens only when waking up the device. The card works fine with all my other devices including my note 4 on stock 5.1.1. I'm not sure what caused it because I just used this sd card with the note 10.1 and then updated and rooted all in the same day.
Anyway, I removed the Sandisk and now I'm using 32gb Samsung and it only happened once for maybe 12 hours (could have been 100 times with Sandisk). Also, I don't notice the lockscreen flickering anymore. I will see if this problem comes back or it just that Sandisk doesn't play well my note. I have seen many people here reported similar problem with other Samsung devices for too many reasons. I don't believe file format is the issue but I'm using exFAT.
