Thank you Samsung - Galaxy Note 10.1 General

Thank you Samsung for giving Android 4.1.2 to all of us!
I am happy for now... until we will start to complain about not getting 4.2. hehe

So how is the update going for you guys? Major performance improvements? I was thinking about buying the Microsoft surface but I like the Note 10.1 too.

No Jellybean here...
Jellybean not out for everyone yet. I am in New Zealand and still on 4.0.4....
Depressing really.

I have to say, the new update for N8010 (MA5) is just awesome. Runs fluid like hell (about 6100 points in quadrant w/o tweaks or OC, for those who wants to know).
No new apps, afaics.
USB-OTG got fixed again, works, but unfortunately not with "high-powered" devices like my 2,5 inch hdd, btw it works with my galaxy s3 and get power, but not on my note 10.1
Oh Irony I hope the devs can rule this problem out, would really apprentice to see my external harddrives working with my note
I guess, its all I can say at this moment, since I couldnt test the new firmware completely (cause of exams -.-)

It is great, one of the things I really like is the on screen commands. Makes going back and forth thru web pages and content a breeze. 2nd only to the quick launch bar at the bottom that lets you pan thru, split screen or cascade windows. When you are on the web you don't have to waste time shutting windows to open an app. Next is the paper artist app, I really like it but it pales to PS which received the latest update. SNote was always good and much better. Now when you see something on a screen you just hold down the pen button while drawing "any shape, letter, number whatever" and you can save the content to a scrap book. Those are just the ones I appreciate so far.
One thing I have always liked about Samsung devices is on the keyboard is the www. and .com so you just type in the site name and you don't have to keep repetitively putting in the same www and .com for every site you visit. Another thing is voice tweeting. On twitter I just voice type in my posts. Last but not least you can write on any picture outside of SNote. In gallery you can send pics as postcards by just choosing a picture and edit. It turns the picture on it's back and you can handwrite or type in your message, then email. If you want to write on the face take a snap shot and then do so or go to PS or SNote. Too much to like I could go on and on. The best tablet I have ever had and I have had many.

About country versions:
Experience shows that the waiting time for your country firmware version or an OTA update for your country depends on the priority your country has for samsung (waiting time of 1 day, many months or possibly never get an update for your country).
Samsung firmware for the Note 10.1 includes all languages and is almost identical in all country versions (with exception of the China version).
Also the German version offers all languages at setup. You just have to select Samsung Keyboard in your language version in settings and the firmware will be like your own country version.
You should backup all your data/apps/settings with something like Titanium backup, install the new firmware and then do a factory reset.
You can also not do the factory reset, but you may have compatibility problems.
To install firmware on your Note 10.1 you need Odin.

The N8000 got it first because it is the most expensive, main device, almost a copy of the N7100.
N8013 got it second this time because you were lucky. N8000 and 8010 are international versions, N8013 is a USA only, regional subversion.
N8010 got it last but is now the newest version.

You can also use mobile ODIN if you are rooted and want to keep root.
This bypasses the using of a PC if you download the update to your tablet, unrar it and then flash with mobile ODIN.
If you want a perfectly stock rom then you just untick everroot option and tick clear cache/data and clear dalvik cache.

mobile odin is not free. everroot for keeping root is only in the paid version.
mobile odin installs a custom kernel, not the original samsung kernel.
Is this custom kernel based on the new 2013 samsung kernel that patches exynos exploit (the patch is in the kernel) ?

No need to be sarcastic i was just wandering how much better the 10.1 was since the update. Don't get your panties in a bunch when someone mentions another device on the 10.1 forum.

My Note 10.1 has suffered terribly since the update. Major issues if you ask me.

Wrong lol completely, lol joking but no N8000 got its ROM first not because its more expensive that's totally incorrect. Only because it has phone capabilities and is the starting point of the base rom. Once they where done making it for the N8000 then all they do is change the features in it to make it compatible with the other note 10.1's. We basically all have the same ROM just with changes made. And the CMA1, CMA3, and CMA5 at the end of the build names are just build dates not exactly versions.

10.1 3G DBT OTA updates

Since my Tab is no longer syncing with Kies anymore, and I'am no longer willing to reinstall Kies everytime I reboot my laptop( i've played that with my Sgs long enough-ok one week before discovering odin), I would like to know if there's a possibility of getting an OTA firmware update for a unbranded DBT tab or do I have to flash them the odin way and loose warranty? (no need to root my tab at the time and I'am getting sick flashing and rooting my sgs twice a month) never ever receiven an OTA update for any of my galaxy devices so I'am actualy asking if the tab updates are going to be distributed OTA or only via Kies.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
As far as i know there hasn't been a OTA update for the european 3G device, so i'm not waiting anymore. I flash updates with Odin. If you flash only official firmware, i don't see how this breaks your warranty.
Ok thanks for the info, so its back to odin for one more device. At least that way i can' thing of a single reason not to root. Guess with an DBT Tab, even outside Germany we won't get any support anyway after the Apple fiasco. So DBT sales code bye bye, EUR here I come flashin' again.

Hi, I have baseband kg7 build number kg9. Is there any updates which i can via odin install please? if yes any link where to find? I am on a 10.1wifi 3G. ..... What a great tab! The apple ipad 2 seems 20 years old. .... i understand now why Apple, so jealous and scared of Samsung, suied and stopped the sale in several coutries of this outstanding tab....lol
Same version over here. Sameone as bought. Haven't found a newer one yet. Are you able to connect with Kies or over Kies Air? Gettin always no device found. Had the same problem with my sgs with froyo, after an upgrade everything worked. My SGS is connecting without a problem.

I agree but as soon as ics is released in US, you can just flash a stock US rom and update to ics. And there will be many custom roms once the official update is out. Nothing will force me to wait for the official update from Samsung Canada...

Just something to consider... Samsung only confirmed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 would receive ICS. Since then, they released 2, 10.1" Galaxy Tablets. I've been a Sammy customer for 2 years now and I wouldn't put it past them to go back on their previous statement and say "The Galaxy Tab 10.1 does have Ice Cream Sandwich" and refer to the 10.1-2 or 10.1 Note.

Here is the quote from Samsung Stuff authorized to answer questions online:
"There is no official firmware for any tablets. If you are using Kies and are not prompted to install any updates, there are none currently available for your device. A newer firmware may be installed on newer tablets at the factory, but we can only recommend you use Kies to obtain updates."

I had /just/ installed cf-root on my 4.0.4 when I discovered this, I haven't messed with cwm recovery so I'm not sure what that is, if it came in with the cf-root stuff, then I guess so. (kind of new to rooting)

to the other question, Samsung Kies (pronounced kees) is windows based, and requires USB connection to do firmware updating, over wifi it won't even try. past that, I know nothing. I fired up Kies on my win8 desktop, plugged in the USB cable, it connected, and announced there was an update, do I want it. it downloads and installs the update automatically when you say 'yes'.
I've updated two P5113's now, mine (was root kitted but isn't at moment) and my wife's (not root kitted), both went smoothly.
(CWM) ClockworkMod recovery, it or twrp recovery is a custom recovery which is required to flash zip files ie ROMs, kernels and mods. I didn't do the cf root method, I installed cwm in Odin and then flashed a zip to get root access. I am familiar with kies, my question though, is it OK to run this update without the stock recovery etc?
Thanks

Yes, it is. P5113 Jelly Bean update on Kies (U.S.)
Argh.... now to keep working on getting windows to boot so I can try kies... silly vista and having to run the startup repair in order to boot.. so sad either sit through hours of updates that take over the computer to all ends including rebooting many times, or sit through now 2 hours and counting of trying to run over and over again the repair boot CD testing if it worked or not and if not running it again. One time it took me 7 times running the CD in order to boot into windows....
Wish there was more support for other operating systems to include linux....
Alrighty then... finally got into windows and downloaded and installed kies but now in rebooting before trying to update as thing's were not working after the install of kies so rebooting.. but guess what.. typical windows garbage now having to run the boot fix yet again... might be able to get the update done by the end of the week at this windows rate...
Finally on jelly bean... only took 3 hours give or take 15 minutes.. main problem was and will always be windows...
now to connect to see if kies recognizes it now

can't say I *EVER* ran Vista, but winXP, win7, win8 have never given me any such problems on dozens and dozens of systems.
the reason noone supports Linux is that Linux is not an operating system, its a collection of parts, no two systems are quite the same. resolving binary library version dependencies is a mess, unless everything is source code and gets custom compiled by the end user, and even then there are endless possible problems... oh wait, you have the wrong version Qt, and python 2.5 but we need 2.3 and .... arrrrrrgh. is the desktop gnome 2 or gnome 3 or kde X.Y or TWM or ..... ARRRRRRGH. Are the startup scripts debian or redhat or gentoo or .... <headbutt on desk>
personally, I wish that FreeBSD was more popular. far less insanity there.
anyways, off topic rant.

I updated to the german firmware using the odin method described in another thread and it worked great, didnt trip the counter or change the device status. Data and apps were intact. all and all I dont see any reason to not do it.
if you want the canadian release then you can simply install it over top the german one once it becomes available but I doubt that there will be much difference.
You might have to WIPE tho, since the German and Canadian ROMs have different CSCs.
Someone please confirm.

Using ROM's meant for other regions isn't an issue and a good way to get the lastest fixes and updated versions of s/w like S Note. The only reason folks in the U.S. had challenges was because they were using ROMs (N8010) not meant for their h/w (N8013). There's a N8010 4.1.2 ROM that just came out. You should be able to use it with no issues. When the Canadian JB ROM is released just install it (via Odin) over the German ROM and you'll be back to where you would have been anyway while being able to use JB in the mean time.
Here's the newest 4.1.2 N8010 JB ROM...

Here's how to install it using Odin...

Another thing Canadian users should be aware before updating is that, there is NO Official 4.0.4 Stock ROM to fall back to. So if you ever need to send the unit back to the shop (before a Canadian ROM arrives online), you're SOL.
This is on top of whatever issues flashing a ROM with a different CSC might cause.
I have the German rom on my Canadian note as far as I can tell there are absolutely 0 issues with having a different CSC. Although it's true that there is no official 4.04 I'm not very convinced that would be a problem in the event of a return I doubt any of the retailers in Canada would know enough to even check what firmware you have installed.
I can confirm that you do not have to wipe data your system status remains official.
Frankly I'm not even sure that installing an official rom would void the warranty even if it is from another region assuming of course you are installing an 8010 ROM on an 8010 device

You might have to WIPE tho, since the German and Canadian ROMs have different CSCs.
Someone please confirm.

Nope you do not need to wipe. The csc doesn't matter as long as u use the rom for the German 8010

Will you need to WIPE coming back from German to Canada?

No. The only file that's being updated via Odin is the PDA/MD5 file which doesn't affect user settings, apps, or what's stored on the device. Occasionally you'll see a widget break or disappear off the home screen because it’s been superseded by one with newer functionality. That's the only casualty I've experienced in bouncing between ROMs from different regions. You'll also see regionally specific things pop-up. The Italian N8000 ROM had a pasta eating game pre-installed on it. Some things don't work because of regional exclusions like the EU Video Hub knows when it's being used on a non-EU device. Those you can just disable in Application Manager.

thanks for the post! I'm going to try this once my tablet has enough charge, will update you all with the results.
Although, what would happen if no official Canadian JB ROM is released in the future? Just like how there is no official ics rom.

AT&T SGH-I467 OTA Update I467UCAMF2

Hey everyone. I just got an OTA update for my Note 8.0 LTE (AT&T). It's a small update (16.3MB). The new firmware build is I467UCAMF2. This is probably just a bugfix update but OTAs are almost always a good thing.

Yeah got it this morning... was hoping it would fix the screen from becoming unresponsive. Did not fix it

OK so allow me to translate that into English:
"Because we're A, T and f***ing T, we decided to make Samsung replace Google's normal Android setup app with our own called AT&T Ready2Go. The problem is, again because we're A, T and f***ing T, our app sucks. If you have two-step verification enabled on your Google account, you won't be able to sign into your Google account during setup with AT&T Ready2Go. I guess we underestimated how many people actually have it turned on, so oops! Our bad. Here, it's enabled. Happy now?"
I manually updated a couple of hours ago. After playing around with the Note 8 with the update for about an hour I no longer experience the screen stutter/freeze/pause/etc. issue. I hope this in fact is fixed, but so far so good.

I'm still getting the unresponsive screen issue post-update. I've thought about doing a reset, but haven't actually done it yet.
Would be nice if someone had the OTA zip, as it is possible a root could be made from it if the right images are included.

Nobody cam get the zip file unless they're rooted and root isn't currently possible on the AT&T model.

So is this thing super locked down or do not many people have it yet? No root is killing me.

A little of both. The bootloader is encrypted and locked on the AT&T model, but also, very few of us on XDA actually have one. Let's be real. People around here thumb their noses at tablets with an LTE connection a lot of times. They just have no hipster cred in the Android geek community. The in crowd just buys a WiFi-only tablet and tethers it to their phone. It's the geekier thing to do, even if it's a pain in the @$$. You can talk about why LTE tablets are useful until you're blue in the face but it falls on deaf ears more often than not.
Unfortunately, I'm not very optimistic that we'll ever see root unless there comes a time where the WiFi-only root method works on the AT&T model.

Is it encrypted? I got this tablet 2nd hand and I may never even put service on it. If I can't root it, I'll probably trade it for a wifi version. I know AT&T and Verizon pushed an OTA to the S4's that prevented root. Luckily I was rooted/rom'ed prior to that. My GN8 doesn't have the latest OTA. I'm still hopeful for root and unlock/simunlock so I can grab a pre-paid card for this tab.

Damn. I couldn't find any info online about it when I got it so I assumed it was just a matter of time before it was rooted like the others.

Has anyone tried fc or moyochopper?
My device is trying to update but I blocked it (for now)...
If I can root it before the download starts them maybe I can grab the file...

Damm, I was going to try to learn to build a rooted kernel.
If it's not a hassle can you point me to the post that IDed the encryption, or did you verify it?
Here is the Firmware for the newest OTA It has everything you could possibly want. I'm working a double or i would of already cracked it open and at least done something with it.

Thanks for this. This is actually the original firmware, not the OTA. The link you provided was for MF1. That's the original shipping firmware. MF2 is the OTA. Still, this is great to have!
