[Q] Flip cover and CM11 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Know the flip cover wont work on CM11 note 3 (I have the original black wallet flip cover). But I have some questions about it:
- As far as I know the flip cover wont work on cm(11) for note 1 and 2 also, why why is this not built in cm?
- Has anybody got it to work on cm11 (using the original sensor in the flip cover, not the proximity sensor)
- can i expect it being build in in the future?
I really liked that when I opent my cover the screen went on so I miss it.
One of the reasons why I bought the note is the cover that really feels like it's part of the phone
Sorry for my bad english!

It doesn't work due to it being a Samsung mod.
Won't work using the original sensor, only proximity.
I wouldn't expect it to be implemented, however it *may* and that's a BIG may.

Yes, I was afraid of that. Its just a shame that a nice feature like that is lost
the other Samsung features like multi window and hand gestures are just stupid and i can do without them. And i am glad the s-pen still works (only no Samsung note app but i have papyrus)
The flip cover is just a shame

Use GMD_Spen for pen features, it's a great alternative :good:

There's actually an ongoing project to support the original sensor of the s-view and flip wallet case. It's called Hall Monitor.

I also tried GMD Spen - it's a good piece of software but for some reason it was not playing well with CM Spen Add-on+Note Buddy installed, therefore I had to uninstall it.
Some Spen gestures are natively supported by CM11 (under Language & Input > Stylus gestures) and CM Spen Add-on+Note Buddy offer a set of useful extra features.
Both CM Spen Add-on and Note Buddy are available from the Play Store.

Try using tasker.
When the magnetic sensor reaches a certain level determined by the magnet in case screen turns on.
I used to use this method on my s4 to detect a magnet in my car dock and activate Bluetooth and start playing music.
If you want I can try and make you an app using tasker?

Just tested Hall Monitor on my Samsung Mega 6.3 running RR Rom, and so far so good.

Info:
Original note 3 cover works with cm12.1.
I open the cover and the phone awakes.
Didn't found a cover app yet....

Anyone knows about development revival of HallMonitor? Last version (0.4.2 from 22 Jul 2014) doesn't support CM12.(1) (see issue #52 on HallMonitor's GitHub page)

Galaxy S II HD LTE i757m - Only $5 and 30 seconds to 100% working NFC

I'm fairly certain this hasn't actually been done previously - but if I've missed a thread and created duplication, my apologies.
The Nutshell: Samsung put NFC in our phone, and then removed the antenna, probably to obscure the reality that the SGS II HD LTE is really just an SG3
INGREDIENTS:
- Samsung Galaxy S II HD LTE
- $5 NFC enabled case (I used a case designed for the Note 2)
- Cyanogenmod (9 in my case), or other rooted ROM
HERE IT IS IN ACTION:

There's not much to this hack/mod. Peel the NFC antenna off your donor case. Align it on the inside of your SGS II HD LTE battery cover. You're good to go. No cutting required, and the phone's back still attaches without creating much (if any really) noticeable puffing of the case.
Is there anything special about the NFC antenna from the case? Will I be able to do the same thing with just a sheet of metal cut to roughly the same shape, as long as it contacts the 2 points on the phone?

Special yes - its an NFC antenna. That's why it requires harvesting from something like an NFC case. It's not really metal at all (even though some of the Chinese case descriptions call it a metal pad). Its a semi-flexible sticker with a metal coil looped around the edges.

Thanx for this post... I wondered same about the NFC, getting ready to get one of these while i wait for the SGS IV and then this will become backup phone. Wasn't planning to root it tho, will this mod ONLY work with CM9 or other "rooted" rROM?
Thanx!

Hello friend, I really liked the TouchWiz interface with time and weather of the video, as you get it? It is an application? or comes with the rom? I wish I could install it on my Samsung SGH-I757M. I thank you in advance for your kind response.
Does anyone else besides the OP got this working? I got a Note2 antenna from ebay. I'm using CM10. None of handful of tag apps can find a tag.

1) Have you enabled NFC in settings?
2) Have you ensured that the pins are connecting to the antenna? (try holding it there without the battery back attached first - may require an extra set of hands to pull off the whole test).
3) Are you sure you're using an RFIC tag that can be read? (I have 3 access control cards and a hotel card that I thought would be read, but can't be - different frequencies).

1. Disabled it and re-enabled just like your video.
2. Tried with and without the battery cover.
3. I'm not completely sure I have the right tags (ebay description: "compatible devices: ...Samsung Galaxy S III; Samsung Galaxy S II (not all versions).."). I'll borrow an NFC-enabled (S3) phone to try it out.
Which CM10 build did you try it on?

I used CM9 - whatever the build was that was the only build around here for a while. I'd check, but I've been on a Note 2 for about 2 weeks now - the i757m is no longer my phone.
Try it without the battery cover, holding the two pins right on the two pins of the antenna, to make sure you've got a good connection.

At the request of a member on the Oppo Forums I am going to share my video review of the Oppo Easy Cover Case Review. I got one of these free with the first batch of Find 5 orders and it is a decent case and choice for your new Find 5. It is a cover case with kickstand functionality and decent build quality. Let me know what you think and if you will buy one.

At the beginn7ng I liked it very much, but I got annoyed very fast because the leather is not very hany when u use the phone, it just doesnt fit very properly in your hand....also the plastic cover broke on two sides without dropping it, so I would not recommend that case....I got meifeng sandcase now and I am satisfied with that one...

Does anyone know if the flip-open-to-wake function also works with non-stock ROMS? In other words: is it a hardware- or software feature?

Good question. I'm wondering where the magnetic sensor is. (If it's using the proximity sensor, this "feature" is going to eat a bit of battery...)
The Nexus 7 mag sensor did not require any modifications (although maybe there's an overlay setting somewhere...) - if this is prox-sensor based, it'll be much less likely to be integrated in CM (since something like that would be a battery hog...)
Edit: grouper has a lidControlsSleep category. If I can confirm this is done by magnetic sensor I'll flip that on in CM10.1

I just did a quick test with a small magnet. The sensor seems to be located between the front-facing camera and the front-speaker. It switched the screen on, and I'm on the latest CM 10.1 build which you're working on.
So no need for extra stuf, works OOTB Now to find an affordable case with a magnet in it.

Odd, I thought that feature was disabled by default. Also, the magnet I have didn't trigger it, however, it is a ****ty fridge magnet, so I need to find a better one and re-test.

cardboard? (Galaxy Note 4)

Does anyone know if i can make/buy a Cardboard-like vr thing for the note 4? I believe that the gear vr will not be released anytime soon.
I've got a Google cardboard from when I had a Samsung galaxy s5 but the note 4 is too big to fit properly...
So if you buy or make one make sure it's bigger than the generic one so the note 4 will fit.

Better late than never
Note 4 doesn't fit well in Google Cardboard but is possible to use , just be sure to give it few more rubbers to not loose your Note4.
There's also available unofficial XL version, but it's much expensive, there's a lot similar devices like : SmartBox3D, Durovis Dive, Stooksy
Use VR player for dedicated VR SBS movies, but remove magnets before this. Effects are stunning.

Sorry, are you referring to a consumer edition of the Gear VR? Because the Gear VR Innovator Edition has already been released, it's been on sale since Dec. 8th for $200... Apparently it is completely possible to use any Google Cardboard VR apps with it as well, you just need to block the Oculus Home app from launching. There's a thread about it somewhere on this site, can't remember where but just search.

I have this one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251766752348
fits the note 4 perfectly, without any cases.
One problem is that, it doesn't have any magnetic switch. I sometimes use a piece of neodymium magnet salvaged from a hard drive as a substitute.
In case you were still curious about this Google has made a new version of their cardboard that will support the larger phones. I use a version of the original that I modified the dimensions on to fit my Note 2 and it works great with my Note 4. I just found out though that the magnetic sensor is in a different spot.
On the original cardboard layout the magnet is closer to the top (upper right of the phone when laid top side to the left) and on the Note 2 it worked fine. It didn't work with the Note 4. I moved the magnet across the top of the phone and it triggers right in the middle in line with the camera. I moved the magnet in my cardboard to rest in the middle and it works perfectly.

[Q] S-View Cover questions

I have been on the fence for a while now about getting the S-View flip cover case. I would get the wireless variant and I already have the official wireless charging back but I think my questions apply to both wireless and standard versions of the S-View case.
Does the S-View case really keep the phone always unlocked? I am running corporate compliance software on my Note 4 which means I am forced into using a password unlock and can't use the fingerprint scanner, for example. I'm looking forward to the Lollipop update so I can use Smart Unlock with my Moto 360 which worked fine for me with my previous Nexus 5 using the same corporate compliance stuff. This is because the Smart Unlock works as an exception to the password unlocking mechanism rather than acting as a different unlock mechanism like the fingerprint scanner. I can't seem to find any third-party app that will do Smart Unlock that actually works on Kit Kat. If the S-View case keeps the phone unlocked all the time that seems equally convenient but pretty exposed if someone grabs your phone. At least with Smart Unlock and the watch the device will lock if the phone goes out of range of the watch.
Any advice from S-View users (or ex-users) on whether the S-View case is really worth it? I think I've read every review out there including all those on Amazon. Most users love it although a small number worked out that a flip case is just not for them. It seems that the S-View function is nice but somewhat limited and with my watch I'm already getting all the notifications I want.
Im not sure what you mean by always unlocked. On my setup with Sview cover you can answer phone, take picture (size limited) and have access to sview menu from cover window. Once I open cover I'm prompted to use my patern lock. So yes partialy is unlocked and limited to sview specific apps.

Thanks for the clarification. I decided I'm just going to try one out and just ordered one. I should have it in a couple of days and look forward to seeing if it works for me.

s view is the best case For my note 3 I had the wireless charging version and the normal one.
I end up not using the wireless s view as it is considerably thicker than the normal one.
for my note 4, I bought the classic s view version. I did not like the pattern s view case.

Wallet type / flip case without magnet??

Just bought the Note 10+ which kind of disappoints me when I see the screen compared to my brilliant note 4 but that's another story.
I've tried a number of wallet cases but almost all the ones I see are with magnetic closure and that affects the S-Pen writing on the edge even with the tag stretched out as far as it goes.
Just wondering if anyone has found a case which doesn't use the magnetic closure?
I don't understand why manufacturers put magnets anywhere near the note series cases - Even Snakehive leather cases seem to do that and they tell me they don't get to test the devices when they make the products . Duh! then they tell me that they only get a few complaints and that is probably because in reality there are quite a few note owners that simply don't use the S-Pen.
I've always had wallet cases, prefer them and the one for my Note 4 was great (manna by Leinke), this had a perfect interference clasp which has never failed in all the years I've used it but sadly they didn't make one for the Note 10 / 10+ .
If anyone managed to find something that works I'd love to know especially one available in the UK.

Magnets and S Pen do not play well together
