Stuck in Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hey all, in need of a little assistance. I was running the tri-force 5.3 rom. loved it, but saw that 5.4 came out. I tried downloading it and got stuck at a screen where it said it had failed. i then tried to follow the steps by reflashing the stock rom and now i am stuck at the spash screen with the red and yellow words at the top. or it pops up saying System software not authorized by samsung has been found on your phone. with yellow triangle in the middle. Anyone know what i need to get past this screen? I believe i was running an MDL prior to this if it helps. I also can still get into the download screen (power + vol down)

If you were still in mdl then just odin back to mdl and start fresh again.

which files am i going to need to do this? if you could just point me in the right direction ill be able to figure it out. I appreciate it

We need to know what firmware you were on before you installed the custom rom. If you were on MF9 or older you can download the MF9 tar file and odin it to your phone. If you were on MJA or MK2, then you need to download the MK2 tar file and odin that.

im pretty sure it was MDL. i bought the phone in early january. is their a way to check without being able to go past the splash screen?

Alright I figured it out. All i was doing wrong was not installing the firmware in odin. got my phone back up and running. Now my problem is installing triforce 5.4. loved the rom, but everytime i flash it, it gets stuck at the splash screen. any suggestions?

I can't get rid of the MF9

I have tried everything to unroot and go back to stock and no matter what I flash or odin and restored my nandroid I still have MF9 under software version and baseband version. My WiFi is broke and I cant for the life of me just get back to MDC or MDL. My Kernel will change and my Build number just not the other things. So right now I have Software Version MF9, Baseband MF9 Kernel 3.4.0-529760 [email protected] #1 Sat Apr 27 18:12:21 KST 2013 and my Build is MDL. I don't care about wiping everything I just want to get back to MDC or MDL. I tried QBKING77 Unroot/Unbrick method also. IDk what to do, this MF9 is locked down.
Find a stock sprint rom from before the MF9 update and flash. Do NOT install the update afterwards- just know that the "update installed tap to download" will not go away unless you switch to a new rom. I might still have the pre MF9 file you can flash with Odin. You WILL be complete fresh out of the box. You will NOT be rooted. You WILL have to call the reactivate number (##72786#). You may actually be able to get it fixed with just the number. Let me dig for a few and if I find it I'll post it for you.

What I read is that MF9 is NAND locked, meaning that once you've updated you can't go back. I could be wrong, but it sounds like that's what you're running into if even Odin doesn't work.

This did not work. WiFi is still broke. And I still have the MF9 Baseband and Software Version. WTH. Well I will flash a TW ROM and then try this maybe. Or maybe with stock recovery and no root? Will report back.
Well I did the manual update to MF9 and it fixed WiFi as I thought it would. Might see if I can revert later or tomorrow to use Triangle Away while on MDL.
I know theres a sprint firmwares thread I just can't find the forsaken thing on tapa so try a search, usually google will deliver. I can't upload my zip as its too large.

3. Then flash the stock Odin file from SamMobile or here (This is the MDC file) http://qbking77.com/development/how-to-unroot-and-unbrick-the-samsung-galaxy-s4/
4. Wipe data and boot up then root and use Triangle away. Then unroot and you should be good. :good:

[Q] 4.3 update frozen on Odin screen

I downloaded the official OTA update. When I went to install it the phone needed to reboot and now I've been stuck looking at the Green Android screen saying Downloading... Do not turn off target!!! and in very small writing could not do normal boot, Odin mode. I am rooted. Please help
What version is the phone? I'm reading up on things in preparation of updating myself. I'm on MF3 and for what I've read I need to Odin back to stock before updating since I'm rooted. This may not be your case figured I'd toss it out there.

I'm currently on MF3 and had rooted my device previously and would like to upgrade to the new OTA. Would someone be so kind to link me to ODIN and the stock file,so I may return to stock and apply the OTA.
Thank you,

I'd recommend it but it's to late for me.
This worked for me to unroot.
To unroot, try this. It worked for me. I'm back to "official". However, I've downloaded 4.3 like 5 times already. I can download 100%, but when it reboots to install it stops at 30% then says update failed.

Same exact problem!
wading through threads for answer!
Ok I have my phone working again. I am not on 4.3 but its back to where it was before I started, which is better than nothing. After running Odin once and it failing like it always does (I have never seen it work) I was able to get the holding down volume, home and power button option to work and I just said no and to reboot and it worked. I then went into SuperSU app and unrooted. I will try to update to 4.3 at a later time. I am glad I wasn't the only one having issues. I usually pride myself on knowing technology and being able to figure it out.

I had the same problem. The only way I was finally able to upgrade to 4.3 was to use Odin to revert to stock (unrooted) 4.2.2 MF3 using the files on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2502003 Once I did that I ran the OTA update to 4.3 and it worked without any problems.
So if I oden to stock again don't root Then hit the update it should go? Weird thing is I installed my back up today and it a stock backup fresh rich from a oden wipe and it stared DL on its own before I stopped it with killing WiFi. I s this 4.3 update or is it mf3 since I never did that update. ..help. Thanks

Use the link in my previous post (post #13). That has the files and procedures for using Odin to get back to stock 4.2.2 and then you can do the OTA upgrade from there.

[Q] Samsung GS4 AT&T Update Fails

I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 through AT&T (which I'm beginning to think was a huge mistake). The phone recently was supposed to receive and update through AT&T update service. The update is about 730 MB and takes about an hour to download, however upon restarting and the update getting to 25% completion it fails and reboots. This wouldn't be a huge issue but my Gallery app has since complete stopped working and the phone is generally acting screwy since the failure.
The first few times this happened i eventually gave up and looked into installing CyanogenMod onto this worthless brick but I can't seem to find any way to get ClockworkMod Recovery onto it.
As of right now I'm sitting here with an $800 POS that I'm stuck with for about another year and 8 months so any help either getting through the update or moving to CyanogenMod would be amazing.
Yeah you cannot install that on your phone, even on MF3.

Have you tried Odin MF3 from the md5 thread in general section. If not give it a go and if it flashes you back to MF3 then re root and install Supersu pro to use survival mode and take the update again.
ROOTED ATT MK2 using Tapatalk
i had the exact same problem. i ended up backing my phone up with titanium, flashing mf3 with odin and then rooting and restoring. then it took the update.
I tried flashing back to stock with Odin and just keeping getting a FAIL! Auth message on my phone and in the desktop application

@uchua Did u try follow my thread for MK2 tar .....u can upgrade to MK2 from MF3 easily or unbricked your MK2. For guide on how to check on POST#2 with image guide....GOODLUCK....let me know how it go.....:good::good:
EDIT: Or u can try this MF3 tar. But remember MF3 and MK2 CAN'T install CWM or TWRP RECOVERY.....u ended up BRICKED.....U CAN ONLY INSTALL SAFESTRAP RECOVERY
Actually it ended up being that the .tar.md5 file I was using was invalid. Upon finding the right ones I managed to reflash the original image and update to MK2. So I guess now my issue is resolved.

[Q] I337 S4 MK2 Soft brick HELPPPP

Ok, I have a situation.
I recently updated from MF3 to MK2. I rooted and debloated. I should have froze the apps but instead deleted them. Anyways I put the phone on ebay and it ends up selling. So I:crying: try and restore to see if the stock bloatware would come back and it soft bricked.
Now I am stuck at screen with a yellow triangle saying firmware upgrade encountered a problem. :/
So my question is this. How do I get back to stock MK2 with bloat. Is there a file for Odin? Stock recovery zip? Anything? I NEED HELPPPPP!!!:crying:

[Q] Stupid Noob bricked his Sprint GS4 SPH-720

I had a rooted stock rom MF9 w Philz Touch Recovery 6 and wanted to upgrade to the new MK2 firmware. So I used Odin to flash the tar file and it passed. I rebooted and froze on the boot screen for about 60 seconds and then started up and said " Android Upgrade Completed". Wifi did not work so I figured it was the Kernel. So stupid me flashed KT kernel using Philz hoping it would fix my wifi issues. I powered down then up and the boot screen came on and my screen went black.. The phone works and can receive calls but I have a black screen. Then I tried to be very smart by using Odin torevert back to the MF9 firmware but no luck. Philz is still intact
How can get my sreen working again or worst case factory reset
You have to Odin back to stock you'll lose your data but it'll fix it find a mf9 tar

You can use android screen emulate on your desktop if you have the android sdk installed.
First off, you can't go back to MF9 since you are already on MK2. Download the full MK2 tar file to use with odin. Then pull the battery from your phone to ensure you are truly powered off since you can tell if your screen isn't working. Next press and hold volume down and then power till your phone boots to the download mode menu. If your screen is still blank but it gave you the power on vibrate then press volume up. This should put you into download/odin mode. Next, fire up odin with administrator privileges and plug your phone into the computer. If odin recognizes it you successfully entered download mode with a blank screen. Load the MK2 tar file in the pda slot in odin and when ready hit the start button. Hopefully you will get a pass when the software install completes. Next reboot the phone and see if it works. If the screen is still blank after a successful odin then it is hardware related and take it to Sprint.
Sorry, I meant this: //code.google.com/p/android-screen-monitor/

Oi I'm posting horribly!
Let me be more concise. If you have no screen you can use the ASM tool to access your display via usb-pc/laptop and control it from there. I had to reflash an old droid after a bad firmware flash left me with no display and this was one of my few choices.
Otherwise you can use ADB to issue commands to your phone DOS style if you want to take the time to learn that stuff.

I can get into download mode so i do know the screen does work to some capacity. I never took the ota to mja so im assuming i don't have the mja knox bootloader. can someone send me a link to the tar file or zip and does it include the firmware and rom without knox? i am a noob to this so i kinda understand some of the things you guys are saying but not sure how to do this. I do know the kt kernel somehow messed me up.

Sorry, misread the original post, thought you did the full upgrade to mk2. All you should have to do is flash or odin the stock recovery or to be safe, odin the full mf9 tar to make sure you start out with a clean slate.
