Does Hdmi out do HD 1080p

Just interested in the hdmi docks and if they will do 1080p .. either mkv or avi?.. also how the hdmi does netflix .. in hd(if available)?..at least 720p?
any experiences would be nice to hear.

Any dock or adapter will do 1080p output, BUT it will be 1080p if you play\stream video through any video player (Dice etc.) if you just stream interface of android (includes web pages, pictures etc.) it will have 720p resolution, the reason for that is that Android's UI runs at 720p max. at the moment. Regarding Netflix - I have no idea, I don't have, though I suppose it will not be higher than 720p, like Youtube app HD mode.

Netflix quality is awful at the moment on the tab as it is, on a larger screen it'd be useless

Correction: 800p
The output resolution is 1280x800, not 1280x720.
Some TV's may crop 40 pixels from the top and the bottom (because most TV's are in 16:9 ratio as opposed to the 16:10 ratio of the 7.7), but when connecting to my computer monitor (which is a 16:10 ratio screen at 1680x1050), I can see the entire image with no cropping. Even the display properties indicates that the input signal is 1280x800.

And I know this was mentioned, but in response to the OP, yes the 7.7 does do 1080p, provided that the video being played back is utilizing hardware acceleration for the playback, otherwise it is downscaled to 1280x800 (like in YouTube, or Netflix, etc.)

If you're referring to the composite video adapter for the 3.5mm headphone jack, then no, that will not work with the 7.7. The 7.7 only works with the HDMI adapter.

[Q] Mirroring Tablet to TV

On my LG Full HD 1080p 37" TV, the mirrored display from my Nexus 10 to the TV is always coming out with black edges roung the screen ie not being displayed in full screen. The only options in terms of aspect ratio for the TV are 4:3 or 16:9 when connected to the tablet. The Zoom1 and Zoom 2 options can only be accessed when viewing normal TV or DVDs. Is there a way I can fill up the black edges on the TV with what's being displayed from the tablet? The only way i get full screen is when i watch videos from Google Play Movies. I would live to stream videos from XBMC in full screen mode if possible. Thanks. The info displayed when the OK button on my TV's remote is being pressed shows 1920*1080 @60Hz when Tablet is connected to TV via HDMI

2650 / 1600 = 1.60
1920 / 1080 = 16 / 9 = 1.78
So I'm guessing that the screen fills top-to-bottom, but you have blank edges on the left and right? If you zoom, you're going to be losing some of what's on the top and bottom edges, just to fill the left and right ones.

It really does depend on your TV. I have a toshiba 1080p 50 inch and I can either have some of the screen cut off or have black bars. Some tvs have scale to fit when you plug in something externally.

Nope all 4 sides have the blank black bars ie none of the sides are filled and my TV does not have the option to zoom in or out.I'm just stuck with the 16:9 aspect ratio.

I bought my TV in 2007. Could this have anything to do with the age and model of the TV. Remember I mentioned in the earlier post that it was a 1080p Full HDTV by LG and it still works well. I use to and still have an Acer A500 tablet and when connected to the same TV via the same HDMI cable,it mirrors the display perfectly without any bars round the edges. So,I was surprised when I got a different outcome with a much powerful tablet. Must be the Nexus 10 not playing well with the TV then.

That's a shame, I tested my N10 once with my 1920x1080 samsung TV and it worked fine. You might try contacting customer service at LG if you're really determined to get answers.

Cheers. I might do just that. But if it works with the 10.1" Acer A500, I should see no reason for the N10 not to. Its just a weird situation. I'll continue to rock the Acer as a set top box device to my TV while the N10 would remain a hand held instead.

i able to mirror the tablet to dtv fine(with 1080p output + fit to screen settings)
only concern is moving at the homescreen is a bit choppy but watching movie is fine. also why youtube doesn't allow full screen?grr

I do not have a micro HDMI cable to test it with, but with all normal hdmi inputs on both my 32" and 42" LG screen, regardless of source, i have the option of aspect ratios, zoom 1 and 2, and then the one which for me is most important, "just scan". Some sources will be larger than the screen, or smaller, and as such cut off, or black bars, but with Just Scan it does it's magic and is scaled to the size of the lcd.

For youtube Go fullscreen on tablet and then connect to tv..works this way for me, hope this helps

4.3 full screen on hdmi?

has the 4.3 ota update fixed the non full screen 'issue' when connecting nexus 10 to tv via hdmi? (is it full screen now when connected?)

I used HDMI yesterday's evening to watch my photos on TV and it was still with black stripes on the sides.

is this fixed on kitkat?

I think this depends on your phone and your TV. If ur TV's resolution is 1080p (full HD) but ur phone
is 720p (HD ready) u won't be to have full screen on your TV.

Not true mate, this is an aspect ratio issue, if you device matches the aspect ratio of you two you wont get any black lines. However android pre 4.2 used to output at 16:9 correctly to TVs regardless of your devices main screen aspect ratio, now they mirror the devices screen ratio which is monumentally idiotic.

my proscan TV can go up to 1080i and 720p...but when plug in my nexus it only do 480p. looks horrible and TV said it get only 480. no setting on TV... I think the TV display whatever it get and no setting on tablet either. what give? spec for my HDMI cable is can do 1080p. it does display the whole screen on the tv. but HD TV displaying 480 with huge pixel is horrible. look like really low res Mario game.

thanks for the reply... I check all over for this HDMI setting and even check it while the TV is plug in. The HDMI works cause I can see it display on the screen. While the TV still displaying what's on the tablet, I still can't find this HDMI setting. I could tell it lag a little with the TV.
I'm gonna try it on a friend's TV when I get the chance. See if it does the same.

[Q] Note 3 HDMI Resolution

I just connected my SM-N9005 via HDMI to my monitor (Dell ST2420L) and everything is fine, except the resolution. It looks a bit blurry to me.
When I checked in the monitor, it says:
Current: 1280x720 @ 60 Hz
Maximum: 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz
The native resolution is shown 1080 x 1920. But this is not the case with HDMI.
I've tried 3 different apps to change the HDMI resolution (with Root) without success.
Does anybody know how to change the resolution?

What kind of connection do you use? If it's MHL, then it must be due to the version of MHL adapter. AFAIK MHL below 2.0 does not support Full HD, that is 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz.

MHL 1 should support Full HD aswell, all HDMI's support it.

The problem is related to the phone.

In my case not all modes are listed and 1 file is missing (since this is newer phone than S3)
I hope someone can help here with the settings.

So you are saying that it's probably because of the MHL cable?
MHL cables are same. MHL hardware is different. The MHL plug has 11 pins.
What brand did you get that works?

I believe there're some apps and/or ROMs that let your phone run apps in tablet mode, for example: http://highonandroid.com/android-ap...-mode-on-any-rooted-android-smartphonetablet/
Though this will be of little help if the app does not have a "tablet mode".

Install xposed installer, there's a tweak that allows you to use the resolution you want to on your TV. I dunno what is called but I'm sure it is in xposed installer!

Edit: Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any mod for HDMI except Fullscreen YouTube
Edit 2: Just used Galaxy S3 with the cable and works just fine on 1080i. So it's definitely not the cable. Sounds like firmware bug (MK2)

Have you tried changing the pixel density (PPI)? PimpMyROM and Xposed can both accomplish this task. Since screen mirroring simply takes whatever is on your device's screen and relays it onto the HDMI output, you can start by taking better advantage of your internal 1080p screen! I recommend 360ppi for this device, as that is the setting I am currently using. You can also go as small as 320ppi without losing sharpness, although text will be extremely small at this setting.

MHL 1 supports up to 720p (1280x720 @ 60Hz) or 1080i (1920x1080 @ 30Hz), MHL 2 also supports 1080p (1920x1080 @ 60Hz).
There is no way to change the resolution, the phone will output the highest mode it detects as being supported.
There are a huge number of fake MHL2 adapters on the market, if you think you got an OEM one for a good price, then it's probably a fake one.
Remember that the native resolution of the Note 3 is 1920x1080, so you can expect a 1080p TV to display the same as the phone does, it doesn't have a special "HDMI mode".
As computer monitors generally don't support 1080i, then the output will fallback to 720p mode and as LCD screens generally don't scale very well, the resulting picture will look fuzzy.
Your only real option is to probably going to be to buy a proper MHL2 adapter. The monitor will probably also not support MHL directly so you'll still need the external USB power supply, while most TVs will accept the HDMI input, they don't support MHL so won't supply power to the adapter over HDMI. It seems to be mostly higher-end models that support power-over-HDMI.

It's not the cable as it's working fine with S3 @ 1080i. And it's special 11 pin for new Samsung models so it's MHL2 compatible and doesn't work with other devices. It's not the monitor. Other people report same problem and nobody knows a fix yet. I'm sure it's the firmware.

Having an 11 pin connector doesn't guarantee that it's an MHL2 device. I have 2 such units sitting in a drawer beside me which have a MHL 1 SIL9292 processor chip in them instead of the SIL9296 required for MHL2 & 1080p support. It works fine with my Note 3 but they do not support 1080p output.
MHL cables are not straight-through MicroUSB to HDMI adapters, they all have active processing circuitry in them. It's not like a regular HDMI cable, that's why the plug on that cable you bought is so huge, if you crack it open there will be a circuit board in there with a MHL to HDMI processing chip on it.
I know 2 other people with Note 3's who have genuine Samsung MHL 2 cables and they both get 1080p output on their TV's.
Computer monitors except for some rare exceptions will NOT support a 1080i input as they don't have deinterlacing circuitry so a lower support resolution will be negotiated. Having the issue on a TV that definitely supports 1080i is a different matter.
The Galaxy S3 is natively a 720p display so scaling will not be required meaning that you will get a much better picture from a Galaxy S3 @ 720p than a Note 3 @ 720p as it can display the image 1:1 without resampling.
ALSO - The Galaxy S3 itself doesn't support MHL2 so is not a good reference.

because my tv has a really bad framerate when it comes to 1080p. 1080i on the other hand runs smoothly

You might have to go find an MHL1 adapter instead of an MHL2 adapter.

Got one of those m-hdmi to normal HDMI adapters, it works great but I was wondering if the tn7 can out put higher than the 1280x800 the notes screen is to the TV? Or does it just detect and output the highest Res any way? Also does anyone know how to make the image fit the whole screen? I've got bars on the sides and top/bottom. First time I've used a tabs HDMI out =/

At the moment, you'll only get 1080p output if you watch a 1080p video. I was really hoping they were going to add Console Mode with full 1080p output with the 4.4 update, but alas... nope!
As for the image not fitting the TV, the tablet's display is actually 16:10 at 1280x800 and not 16:9 at 1280x720, so the image doesn't quite fit. It's kinda stupid since even my old Acer A500 tablet had a 16:10 screen but adjusted the output to fit 16:9. Long story short, though, is that it is what it is, and there's not really anything that can be done besides hoping and waiting for Nvidia to iron it out (or for a dev to fix it with a custom ROM some day).

If you don't want the bars on either side of the screen, you need to roll back to the original 4.2.2 firmware. Using that firmware, if you use a movie player like MX Player, when a film is playing, pinch to 'zoom' in on the film. As you do so the the edge of the film will disappear off the edge of the tablet's screen, but it will zoom in to fit the edges of the TV's screen, if you see what I mean. You will also find playback under 4.2 much smoother, whereas now you may experience micro stutters as though the movie is dropping frames or running at less than 24fps.
