How to completely unroot? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have a SGH-I337 on 4.3, which has been rooted. However, I need to send my phone in for service to Samsung, how do I completely unroot?
I read about Odin, but I cant seem to find the 4.3 firmware for AT&Ts version of the S4... Can someone please guide me through the entire process

The second post of this thread to root the 4.3 MK2 version is a method to completely unroot. I have used it multiple times. Even restores the Galaxy S4 boot logo from custom.

[Q] need some advise on mf3.

so i just had to odin to factory stock because i was in the boot loop into download. but i stupidly updated the software thinking it would update me to something other than mf3....that was not the case. it put me right into mf3. should i odin back to stock and just root and recov from there? or can i just root to customize. i have no problem starting from scratch but some advise would be great!!! please and thanks!!
If it updated you to MF3 you at this time can not Odin back to stock out of the box.root is possible but no recovery or Roms so please don't be a static of the "I bricked my phone"section. Read/research till your eyes dry up and burn

is there a way to debloat the stock rom? also is the root process the same??
To b honest I haven't checked out how to root MF3 cause I've managed to stay away from the OTA update,I m still MDL base. As far as debloating without flashing a zip I believe u can use titanium backup the long way.my model is ATT I337 S4 but the Rom I m on makes it a I9505 S4. I check on xda everyday to c if/when they will get the bootloader unlocked so we can go back to stock anytime we want.please don't quote me and I hope u can achieve what u want till it is fully unlocked.

without root, you can simply disable the apps you don't want to use. if you want to root your phone, you can use titanium backup to freeze the apps. everyone is saying freeze and not uninstall because there is no current method to restore our phone on mf3 update. so if you screw something up you're ****ed. I personally used rom toolbox pro to backup all the apps to an external sd, then I deleted them from the phone and haven't had any issues that I'm aware of

Search for rooting with MF3. There is a way, but there is no custom recovery. If you do root your phone and begin removing bloatware, you may cause irreversible damage since there is no way to odin back to stock.
I would wait until we have a way to install a custom recovery.
Root is possible, bloatware removal possible. Just be extremely careful what you delete or install for that matter, because currently there is no recovery at the moment for MF3 because of the locked bootloader. [email protected] You AT&T [email protected] You!

SGH-I337 AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 Rooted (Motochopper) - best route to AT&T 4.3?

Hi all,
My Google-fu is failing me and I'm not certain of the best route to take a Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 AT&T 4.2.2 MF3 (Rooted with Motochopper) up to the new AT&T 4.3 firmware.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a guide for doing this? Everything I'm reading seems like I'll have to sacrifice my root, flash to stock with Odin, and then wait for AT&T to re-release the OTA update to 4.3. Am I off base?
Motochopper cannot root MF3. We're you able to hold root when you upgraded and are hoping to keep root again?
At the moment yes you will have to sacrifice root. I did. Root keeper does not support android 4.3 and keeping with SuperSU does not work either.

My phone is still rooted at this moment, though I'm on 4.2.2. I haven't upgraded anything yet. I was hoping there was a custom rom or something I could flash to get to 4.3 and retain root.
I'm just gonna wait until a stock 4.3 rom comes out that supports safestrap so I can keep root

Since you are rooted with a custom recovery you CAN flash 4.3 now without losing root. Just use ShoStock-i MJ9 4.3http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468860
Or VisionX MJ9 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391142
Or Deadly Venom MJ9 4.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503692
and POSSIBLY a couple other 4.3 Touchwiz firmwares that are found in the Android Development Section
These are all from he International MJ9 firmwares but to me are better than the ATT firmwares for 4.3. The ATT 4.3 removed the Data Toggle completely from the pulldown menu and now you have to go into settings each time to turn it on or off. Plus other changes that are solely LACKING compared to the international firmwares. I have tried two of the above and they are both great and the third from what I have read works great as well. They are all great devs. Try them out and I suggest using the Jeboo 3.0 kernel for best results.

I concur with RockRatt. Shostock-I is smooth. It is bundled with jeboos 3.0 kernel. Love it. Biased, though. I've been using Sho's roms since my/his s2 days..

If "mrpeters" is MF3 he can't and shouldn't try flashing a 4.3 rom cause our MF3 Safestrap don't support it at the moment.

I only gave the advice above because he said he is ROOTED WITH MOTOCHOPPER ON MF3. As we know MF3 cannot be rooted with motochopper. So I was guessing that he rooted while on MDL or MDB with motochopper and used a ROM to upgrade to MF3.
So unless he is/was mistaken with those comments and he meant to say rooted on MF3 with safestrap then I would of told him to look at the safestrap threads.
Hopefully he clears things up with that as I WON'T want to give him Bad Advice.

All I know is I still have root If I have to wait where I'm at, no big deal!

well my touch screen has stopped working, so now this phone gets to go back to AT&T for repairs.
whats the best way to remove root and factory default it?
sorry to bump an old thread, but I wanted to see if anything had changed so I could upgrade from my rooted 4.2.2 I337UCUAMF3 to one of the newer OS versions that are out. This phone was a warranty replacement, but I had no trouble rooting it with Motochopper when I got it so I don't think it came stock with MF3, but its been 6 months so I can't say for certain.

You could flash the md3 tar and return it to stock. Then let out update itself. You'll lose root and you'll want to read some of the threads on the general section dealing with mk2 and nb1 before you do so so you know what you're getting in to

10-4. I don't want to lose root, so that's key. I should have clarified that. I use too many apps (LightFlow, NoBloat, Titanium, etc.) that I wouldn't want to give up.

You could flash 4.3 MK2 with odin then root with saferoot.
The 4.3 tar can be found here http://d-h.st/wH3 The pit here http://d-h.st/5gz

My MDL updated itself when I went back to stock and forgot to disable OTA. Now that I'm locked into TW, is there a reason NOT to update to MK2? I know that it will install KNOX but with saferoot and safestrap, I'll have the same functionality of my rooted MF3?

[Q] Cannot update rooted AT&T S4

Hello I have a rooted S4 i used kingo root app from a computer to root my S4 it was my first time rooting any android as I am new to android os I am familiar with apple and jailbreaking i like android much better, that's why I switched so I want to get the new 4.4.2 update from AT&T but everytime i try it says installation failed and I don't know how to put my stock firmware back on, I'm pretty much stock but I deleted bloat ware and stuff like that when my s4 boots up it says custom under the samsung logo please help I just want to update ?
same here..
What firmware version are you on? Mf3 or mk2. You'll need to use Odin to return to stock. There are tar files for both firmware versions in the general forum. Use the one that you are currently on.
As always, backup first.

Mine, downloaded the whole update but stopped installing it at 28%. Tried it 2 times and there was no pop up error.
Any idea why?
Tried a 3rd time after uninstalling Safetrap and still no go after 28% on the installing process.
Update Failed is the message and then the phone reboots
Guys: If you are not on stock MK2 then update to NB1 will fail - You will need to ODIN back to stock MK2 then accept OTA
Link to ODIN to stock => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621279
Or flash straight to NB1 via the .tar files on this post:

Sorry, OP. Rooted phones almost always never get OTA. Unroot if you really want it (there's no root for AT&T KitKat yet!). However, if it still won't let you get KitKat (usually errors at 24-25%?) then I don't know how else to help.
If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me!

There is now Kit Kat 4.4.2 with root. XDA did the seemingly impossible once again. Listed in the all things mk2 & nb1 guide.
