[Q] Where is the serial number? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

I am trying to mess with the firmware update on Kies, and it's asking for my serial number. Tried looking under the battery, on the box, in "about phone" status menu, with adb devices. I also tried entering in the MEID, and the ICC ID, and Kies says they are not valid. I've searched everywhere, and I've found nothing but forum discussions with no resolution. Why in the world is my serial so hard to find?
BTW, I am running on Unknownforce's totally stock NAE rom released today.

It is in settings, more, about phone under status.

[Q] "Failed to get serial number"?

My brother's MX is having some trouble. It worked fine yesterday, though his battery seemed to drain faster than mine, but today we're getting a nice new message:
"Serial number not found."
In the "About" menu, Baseband version, Serial number, and IMEI are all blank. We've tried the simple things like factory reset, format then factory reset, and we're still stuck with the same error. Some interweb searching shows an error by the same name with the Transformer Prime and it may be related to ICS itself.
Settings also continues to crash: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped."
Suggestions?
IMEI updated 20 min ago. Baseband just updated 5 min ago. No joy on serial still.

Bring it back to the service center?
That will be difficult, since I believe the nearest one will be in Hong Kong (almost 9,000 miles away).
My brother's managed to flash 1.1.5, hoping the upgrade would do it, but it still won't identify the device's serial number. Hopefully it will find the IMEI again so we can shoot Meizu an email and ask them what is going on and how to fix it.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 suddenly lost signal, imei, baseband, etc.

My i9500 has driven my crazy since yesterday, I even stayed up all night trying to find a way to restoring its IMEI. So here's the problem:
I was playing a game called "Friendly Fire" and decided to turn off its notifications using Application Manager. Everything was fine until a few hours later when I opened up my phone and saw the mobile signal was gone, only a circle with the diagonal dash inside it left. At that time I thought it was fine but then suddenly it popped up the message "Please enter SIM card unlock number" or sth like that, which was an error indeed because my i9500 is an unlocked version. I though it was the mobile network who locked the SIM, but when I tried putting the SIM into other phones, they all worked! And so I started to find a way to unlock my i9500 by ServiceMode Menu but I could never reach the ServiceMode Menu, it only showed a blank screen. I checked my IMEI and it now said "null/null". I had never rooted or flashed any ROM on it so it was really really strange. So I reached a topic on "how to solve the null/null IMEI" on i9500 because it seemed that many people got this problem. However, nothing helped I even rooted my phone to see whether I can back up then restore the 'efs' folder. Well, I did manage to do so but the IMEI would not change at all. The strange thing is that when the phone was just booted up, if I enter *#06# the IMEI shows "null/null", but if I enter *#1234# first then *#06# it shows the generic IMEI (0049...), which was useless as well. I tried different methods, flashing to different official stock rom, but nothing worked. Also, when I flashed an official stock rom, Kies did not show the right region of the firmware but "XXX" for every firmware I tried. And of course, my mobile signal was lost so I could not make any call/text/3G/LTE/etc., but the rest (wifi, bluetooth, gaming, etc.) was okay, it is basically an ipod touch right now
I wonder if anyone can help me with my problem? I know my real IMEI number (at the back of the phone) and that's it. I bought it from another country so it would not be possible for me to bring it to the Samsung store where I got it from. I could not remember the country where its first firmware came from Is there any way to find out that?
Many thanks for reading my trouble :crying:
Well this weird, I am wondering if an android virus could do that....

I bought it in the U.S. in July, from an official Samsung store. Well, the box containing the phone and the phone itself were "made in China", I thought most products have those words? It would be ridiculous if that is the problem because it also has a line like "Korean product"...
I wonder if Octopusbox or SPTbox may fix the problem? I don't know those two things very well though.
I had the same problem on a different samsung phone (Note 2) and i was getting imei 0049 or something like that, Basically my imei had changed or gone. The issue i found out to be a baseband issue so what i had done was downloaded a few compatible basebands and flashed them via odin and eventually got my imei back. There is also this link for you to have a look at http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/77400-booting-issues-and-imei-loose/ just in case it helps. Hope you get sorted.
solve problem
According to your description, you can have a try resert your Samsung galaxy s 4 and then restart it to see weather it is OK? If it still not fine, send it to Samsung After-sales service

Unknown MEID, IMEI, ICCID, service state

Long time lurker, first time poster. Please be detailed in your explanation, I still consider myself a noob.
What happened:
I got a google play error that would not let me do anything, so I reimaged a stock ROM to my S4 with Odin. Everything worked fine at this point. I realized I didn't back up my text messages, and looked for a SMS recovery software. The software ran and didn't find anything. Later, I rebooted my phone.
My Problem:
After the reboot my phone came up but had a red X over my signal bars. I tried to Self activate, that did nothing. my phone says: "Preparing network..." in the status bar, but it's not doing anything. In my phone status menu it says unknown for all of the following: Network, Mobile network type, My phone number, MIN, MEID, IMEI, ICCID, Software version, Baseband version.
From what I've found it looks like it's a EFS corruption issue, but I wasn't able to find a fix with working links (and it was an older thread). Does anyone know of a method to fix this? I took it to the sprint store and the guy said he's never seen anything like this before.
Additional info:
Phone model: SPH-L720
android version: 4.4.2
Build: NAE
Kernel version: 3.4.0-481102
security software version MDF v1.0 release 2

It is asking for a MSL. Where do I find that?
Try to enter 000000 if it doesn't Accept search in forum or in Google how to get MSL from your device.

After reboot?
Nothing happened?
So try the latest solution
Odin the tar NG2 file.
If it didn't work then convert the phone to media player.

I've flashed several official and unofficial ROMs to see if I'd have any luck with them. So far nothing changes this. It looks like the files are corrupted, but there must be a way to change/fix this. It's just software, so there has to be someone who knows how to fix or modify this file, group of files, whatever it is? even if it's with a hex editor.
So the end result was I sent the phone into the Samsung service center. They took care of everything with no charge since it was still under warranty (barely). Everything working fine now. And the process was quick and painless, they even paid for shipping both ways.
Glad that it worked out. I just wanted to say i have had success with dfs cdma tool for ESN repair in the past on my sprint S4.
It's confusing when you first launch the program, however you don't have to buy the full version to use. If you want to look into that, try a search for esn repair on Google.

How to get the latest official stock rom on my phone

Hello!
I'm having signal problems with my phone. I've tested the antenna on another phone and it works flawlessly. The usb module is brand new and the faulty one I replaced already gave me the same signal problems. So, before I panic and start thinking in replacing the motherboard, I'd like to exclude any possibility of this signal problem being on the software side.
I'd like to test using the phone with everything stock. I know I have a SM-N9005 but I don't have access to either the IMEI nor the S/N (error while dialing *#06# and I don't have the box nor the sticker on the back of the phone).
The first thing I would try is to flash the phone with Kies. If that does not work, download your firmware from sammobile.com and flash the phone with Odin.
Ian
I did it via odin but phone doesn't boot unless I flash TWRP and install some custom rom...
I made it to boot with some 4.4.2 stock rom but it doesn't get past the startup (it crashes when I get the prompt to name my phone).

The only reason this sticker would be missing is if the phone was stolen, there is no other reason to remove the sticker.
Is there?

I don't know about this phone's past, I didn't buy it new. But I managed to get the S/N and register it in the Samsung site, and IMEI isn't locked.
Well, I managed to flash things throught Odin, thanks you all

Rogers I337M not prompting for Unlock Code

I have a used Rogers Galaxy S4 I337M (from Ebay) and I have purchased an unlock code from a third party site. The problem is I cannot for the life of me get the phone to prompt me for the unlock code. I've tried Bell and Fido SIMs with no luck (they work on the phones I pulled them from just fine).
I've tried flashing stock 4.2.2 and trying all of the dialer codes I could find. I've also used Samsung Kies to restore the latest lollipop firmware, but this still does not prompt and the dialer codes don't work here also.
I've also tried going into the dialer service menu (*#0011#) and enable PERSO SHA256 ON and reboot, and still no prompt. Foreign SIMs either show "Unregistered SIM" or "Emergency Calls Only".
The only way I managed to generate a prompt was to do an NV rebuild from the service menu, and the unlock code said it was successful, but the phone still refuses to get any service. The phone does see the networks when I got to Network Operators, but it fails to register or says "unable to connect, try again later".
Can anyone help me get this phone working?
You confirmed that the model # is sgh-i337m in download mode?
The imei from the dialler (*#06#) matches the imei on the label under the battery?
The imei from the dialler is blacklisted?
Tried flashing the latest ROM using Odin?
Tried unlocking the phone using the free method with regionlockaway?

Thanks for your reply, looks like the imei is blacklisted (hadn't thought of that). I guess I'll see if I can get myself a refund.
If you want to keep the phone, try to have the seller get it removed from the blacklist database.
