Hi guys i have a question. I think there is an app or a method to make a flashable-zip file to backup app. It is very useful if you often changing rom. I think @-CALIBAN666- has mentioned this but i forgot on which topic.

@-CALIBAN666-
i have zipped my apps and data but it seems it cannot backup the data. not like titanium backup it seems.
is nandroid not good enough ?
in general i use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro&hl=en_GB
for everything including system app/data, user app/data backup and restore, build.prop, root browser, terminal, ad block, memory, advanced freezing etc.

Im new to rooting/flashing roms.. Is it possible to keep the apps/games you've already downloaded after you've flashed to a different rom? Or do I have to write them down and redownload them?
Also what is a NANDROID backup? Is it the same as backing up though clockworkmod recovery?
Download Astro file manager. Open it up and go to menu>tools>backup and backup all your installed apps. Then if you do a clean install all you have to do is install Astro from the market and reinstall your apps from your backup.
Your apps are stored on the /data/ partition so that is untouched when you flash a rom. That said, they recommend wiping to avoid any incompatibilities.
You can use a backup program, eg Titanium or My Backup Pro, to backup your apps and data.
Clockwork can do everthing, but I like using Titanium so I can selectively restore apps.

So technically speaking I could flash roms without wiping? But I still should.
Thanks to both of you!
you can flash without wiping but you should wipe. if you don't wipe don't report bugs, because the first thing they will ask is if you wiped.

Made a mistake already haha. Forgot to sync my contacts with google before I flashed to syndicate. Good thing I made a back up of my stock rom Goes to show how IMPORTANT backing up is!!
AppBrain market makes it very easy to restore all your apps from the market.

This becomes an issue when moving from eclair to froyo. I use app brain and when I moved to a froyo rom I went back in to download fresh and nothing was there. When I flashed back though app brain had my list of apps ready and waiting. Kinda neat kinda painful. Use Astro...it's a lot simpler.
Apparently the id or model changed and the list was different. Check on the appbrain.com website. Move the apps to the other list. Worked well for me.

before nand we all just download different builds and just copy the data.img file to the next build and basically kept all of our data , app, widget etc.
but what can we do now?
i cant change the data.img file in the nand roms...
how do i change roms and keep all my stuff?
You're gonna need to start backing up and restoring what you want to keep. I recommend titanium backup.

Titanium Backup will backup all apps and most data (like settings, preferences etc.). Beware that if an app offers to download something for additional functionality, that will not always be backupped, as it isn't always stored in the same location. No harm done there, as it doesn't contain settings in such scenario. If you restore the app, all settings will be restored too.
Sincerely,
Mac

nope. you pick the apps you want to backup and then in the new rom you restore them all.
i wish there is a simple way to change rom like copy one file...
but you all say thet titanium backup is the right thing to do so....
thx.
When I do a backup with RomManager before I flash a new rom does that backup contain all the apps and user data of the apps for when I flash back to it or does it just contain info about the rom and system data?
For example, I take a backup and then clear all system data and cache info before I flash something new. When I go back to the backup file I took with RomManager will it contain all the apps and stuff that I had on my system prior to the data wipe or will I need to restore all the apps individually with Titanium Backup?
Yes!

Call Logs, SMS, etc. will be lost.
You need to back those up separately if you wanna save them.
Below are a couple of Apps that work well for this >>
My Back Up (Pro)
SMS Backup & Restore
It does Dave your call log and messages.
It pretty much clones exactly as it is.

Call logs and SMS I really don't care about, none of it matters to me. I am mostly concerned with having to reinstall all the apps or have to reset all of my launcher preferences and screen layouts.
All that stuff will be saved. I guess if Ur using Rom manager u are using clockwork? I backed up with clockwork and all my apps were still there when I went and restored.

If you mean you want to restore apps and data on a new ROM then yes you can use tb I use mybackup root.
No you can't restore them from a backup from ROM manager on another ROM thats a backup of your whole system if you restore a backup from rm you will restore the whole ROM you backed up.
Edit: sorry just got the op yes it will be the same way when you backed it up.

Just a quick question... I want to hard reset and then flash the new firmware, what's the best backup app?
I especially dont want to lose whatsapp stuff (logs and pictures) and the sms (and of course all the apps installed).
Is there a way to do so without root? Thanks in advance.
It seems you are asking for the impossible.
The apps needed for those backups needs Root Access esp. for the case of Titanium Backup

Well, for instance...
Whatsapp does a backup of the logs on the internal memory, so is it possible to copy these files on the sdcard, wipe, and then copy back to internal? Does that work?
The phone settings and apps, if im not mistaken, are also saved on the gmail account.
And the sms... kies (which sucks) does backup them.
So it shouldnt be impossible for an app to do what i just said... or am i wrong?
Thanks.
Doesn't carbon work without root?

Try Superbackup application. It can take backup of your applications & message. Just check.

I just helium to move phone's and it got most of the information across just missed my email accounts. It's free too. Once it does schedule backups I will buy. Good luck.
I believe 'MyBackup' works without root

What steps do I (or anyone) need to take to prepare for a ROM upgrade ( like sacs)? I have titanium and known how to do a full recovery backup. How would I use titanium?
Use TB to back up all your user apps and data. That way you can restore them after you wipe your phone before installing your new rom. Make sure you change the folder for your backup to the external sdcard first. Also, do not back up system apps with TB. If you restore system apps to a new rom you will be replacing files in the new rom and will most likely have problems. You can also back up you sms and call logs and restore them after install.
There is only the option for apps +system data. Apps. And system data. But no options for apps and data (app data) . Any help?
